@chuckisbusy yes it is, if you look at it this way. A really good 1911 is around 1200$ retail. It probably cost the manufacturer about half that to make the gun. So how they justify 3x the cost of a base 1911 is beyond me.
I now have close to 8,000 rds through mine. The only failure I have experienced is a failure to lock open on an empty magazine, which was an after market 21 rd mag. The mag has a fault that caused me to discontinue use. All of the other mags work flawlessly.
So you have a Unicorn there sir. A Glock mag that doesn’t work…in a 1911 that does. 😂 Just so you know, every handgun I own is either a Glock or a 1911/2011.
@@travisbell9014 check out the r/stealtharms subreddit. There are a bunch of people there who have experience with different holsters for the Platypus.
It's cool to see Stealth Arms gain wider recognition. Their 80% 1911 kits were great, and gave the end user just the right amount of excess for hand-fitting. I was exceedingly close to putting in for a Platypus, but at the last step I couldn't bring myself to go through with it. Price is right, they've reviewed well, and their design options are awesome, but I just couldn't justify yet another 9mm. But as tired as this phrase is, if they make a good 10mm, I'm in it the minute it shows to be reliable. Considering they've done 10mm 80% kits, it doesn't seem impossible.
We have this, Dan Wesson DWX, Kimber KDSC, Oracle Arms 2311, Wilson Combat EDC and various “2011” makers. The last few years have been great for the 1911 platform. But the Playtpus appears to be the best value of all of them.
Finally solving the 1911 magazine issues. I'm a Glock guy, I know a guy who is pretty knowledgeable on a lot of gun platforms. He brought his 1911s out to shoot at my backyard range and I noticed he had text written on the mag bases. I forgot which 1911 it was but he said yeah its a good gun however it works the most reliably with this brand mag and only this brand. So I was curious and mixed up the mags. He was right and I was glad I got to see it with my own eyes rather than social media indoctrination
That’s the first time I’ve seen a 1911/2011 with a RMR footprint optics cut (the screw holes are the most far apart of all common patterns) that doesn’t require an adapter plate. Widening the rear part of the 1911 slide for an optics cut was a great idea.
The platypus is a win. Ya like 1911s / 2011s? You'll love this. I love mine. Its my second favorite DS 1911 behind my XC. The Very agressive prickle grip texture is sticky as hell but not painful to carry against the skin IWB. Good review.
I'll have to agree with you on their website. I was able to mock up a design from my phone. The configurator never lagged or caused the browser to freeze. That's impressive.
Im sad i didn't get to help with this project, loved doing the work on their standard models. 100% American made, and the machining process supports a GREAT number of American companies, big a small. The owners a hell of a guy, as well as my previous boss.
Just subscribed, I’ve yet to see a negative review of these and great things about the owner of Stealth Arms. I’m a huge Glock and 1911 fan so like you tons of Glock mags. I used to shoot IDPA with Desert Eagle 9mm 1911, made by Bul Armory and USPSA I’d shoot Glock 17 or 34 Gen 5, iron sights for both, went blind in my right eye so Glock with red dot for everything now, really want one of these, was hoping they would do the rmr cut and now they are so that’s great. Might be time to take the plunge. Great video, really enjoyed!
I’m incredibly pleased with my commander length Platy.. Also have a Staccato c2 and agree they are on the same level of build quality. For whatever reason, I go the Platy as there is something that makes it more fun to shoot…perhaps having 20 Glock mags loaded and ready has something to do with it. I hope they come out with a 3.5” variety in the near future as that would be the ultimate EDC. Currently, my EDC is a Bul Armory sas II ultralight, and it too, is a showstopper right out of the box….or soft case…as it were😂.
There are two things I have done everyday for the last two weeks... First, I thank Jesus Christ for dying for our sins. Second, I watch this video... I am truly smitten! Well Done.
Would love to get your thoughts on the Platypus versus Dan Wesson DWX. Similar price point although the DW is not optics cut. It takes CZ P10 mags so that's pretty cost effective too. Although not as ubiquitous as Glock mags.
I’d like to see a bull barrel and a true 2011 setup with a grip module. Also, since their safeties are proprietary, I’d like to we them offer an extended safety. 1911/2022 safeties don’t fit
I have the Staccato C2 and now have the platypus commander length. The grip on Platypus is smaller overall than the C2. Someone with smaller hands would probably appreciate that. The recoil seems slightly less on the C2. Accuracy on both are a wash. Both are quality, I would give the edge to Staccato with DLC finish.
I might save to buy a Platypus. Always wanted a 2011 or double stack 1911 but I pass on buying one because the magazines. Especially 2011mags! Aren't they like 99 dollars each? I have a Glock and couple of Glock mags so... For any Sig p320 people out there, Oracle Arms has their OA2311 same concept only difference is it loads Sig p320 magazines.
If they do a bull barrel with a tool less guide rod and an extended slide stop I am buying one. I currently have a couple Staccatos and would love to have one of these if they had those features.
Hello. Unfortunately I’m behind the times here because this video dropped a week ago. I don’t leave a lot of comments. And most likely this won’t be seen. Technically you are correct this pistol has all the standard 1911 controls. But when the polymer double stack grip is added, it becomes a 2011. Thank STI/Staccato. They created the pistol. And named it such. Thanks for the info and fine content. Take care.
Thanks for the video! What’s the quality on these like in your opinion? I know they are a production gun with little to no hand fitting. I held one briefly and it felt squishy. The safeties weren’t fit, the trigger was wiggly, etc. do you think it stacks up to any other 2011s excluding the fact that it takes glock mags?
Build quality was pretty solid and above the price point for sure. Is it still a "production" gun, yeah but it also had somethings custom guns don't. I would be very happy with this purchase. While I do appreciate some of the fit of the higher end guns I just really like how this guns runs and shoots, it's a laser and runs which is more important to me overall.
