It’s great to see companies like Tisas coming out with double stack 1911’s that the average person can afford. I was at a gun show today and got to hold a Tisas 1911 stingray on 45acp, now I really want one 👍

    • @andreawhalen4142

I own both stingrays, good pistols but very clicky clacky, lose feeling pistols. The aluminum frames are on the cheesey side on the stingrays. The manta ray i think its called is the steel frame version of the stingray in 45. It is a nicer pistol even though it's cheaper

I am 6 ft. 5 in. tall and have large hands that can palm basketballs, so I really like that this gun has a slightly wider grip. I know a lot of people have a problem with Turkish guns but I don't. The Turks have been making guns for hundreds of years. This looks like they've gotten a whole lot of things right. The Glock-cut rear sight, the optics capability, the rail, the beavertail grip safety, the thumb safety, everything. Fantastic review! Thank you so much for this! ❤👍👌

I agree with your final thoughts; this handgun is a departure from the norm. In my range time, I shoot four different 1911s. And I still need time to adjust between them, even after several thousands of rounds through them. If you should maintain possession of the Tisas DS long enough to get at least a few hundred rounds through it, another shooting test might be indicated. As always, thank you for the review! Almost forgot--great shot on the tack!

HR, maybe replacing the rear site with a white dot (to better accommodate the front site) would get you where you what to as far as consistent accuracy. As you mentioned earlier in the analysis, most of your 1911s have the 3-dot mechanical site. That is what your eyes and shooting regiment are accustomed to.

I agree with you, my friend. Here in Brazil I have an Imbel GCMD1 (1911 model in 9mm) double stack. This type of grip requires readjustment of the hand (including the position of the trigger finger). A few hundred rounds and a lot of training without ammo at home can solve.

My Staccato came with a full-length guide rod by Dawson Precision that doesn't require any tools, paperclips, etc. Since it takes the spring tension off the slide stop, I find that it breaks down even easier than a GI-style 1911 without the full-length guide rod. I believe you can get the Dawson Precision rods for other 1911's as well.
If I didn't have the staccato already, I'd be ordering one of these Tisas DS pistols as soon as I could get to my local FFL. That may still end up happening if they start making about a version in .45ACP or 10mm...

You can always find a grip module in the future that has been slimmed down to an officer size, or one that is not as thick if you choose and still be uxnwr what many DS models go for.

Another quality informative video-something I do appreciate and have come to rely on from your productions, and you never fail to deliver. My pistol life began with the M1911A1 long ago when it was a standard issue item, and the one experience I had with a 2011 was my buddy's Para-Ordnance full sized double stack. For me, it was the same in that the controls were in the same places and the manual of arms identical, but there was something about that grip that felt foreign as if I were shooting a very different pistol. There is something about the ergonomics of a 1911 which makes me compare every pistol to it. You are the "fair and balanced" reviewer of firearms sir!

I’m really excited to try one of the new Tisas 1911 DS nightstalker. It’s basically the 5in version of this gun with a few upgrades.
I honestly had no interest in 2011 guns until about a year ago. My brother is a police officer and his department just allowed them to start carrying Staccatos if the officers buy them. He purchased two with the significant Leo discount. I thought it was dumb until I shot one. There is some secret sauce there that makes them incredible. I can’t drop 2k+ but $900 is doable for me.

Accuracy is better than I can match 😵‍💫. The Apollo 11 does have that FLGR that you dislike, it is simple enough to work with and the gun runs flawlessly. If I had not bought it, I would be looking for that Tisas Duty DS ( I prefer the full length over the Commander slide ). Great video, I envy your ability to drive that tack as easily as you do.

Another excellent review of today’s contemporary handguns. HR your reviews are always well filmed, well organized, well presented. Watching you shoot, and getting used to your expectations lets viewers understand the weapon you’re showing easier to understand for themselves. As a former Marine and civilian law enforcement person, this weapon’s size, capacity and appearance seem to be a winning EDC option. I currently carry two weapons while in traffic, and one for personal carry upon exiting vehicle. Unfortunately I believe the capacity of weapon supersedes the caliber of weapon, because I continue to be fan of the 1911 .45, I consider my 9mm pistol as mass shooter encounter weapon. Hopefully needing neither. Semper Fidelis @ Tack Driver

I would bet that after a few hundred rounds you would like this a lot better. The softer shooting feel is probably due to the wider butt distributing the recoil over a larger area. I like your insight that this might be part of your missed shots as well.
It's much different in the gun/shooter interface with the wider grip; it will take a little getting used to. It looks like a nice one.

I finally attempted the 7 yd tack shooter thing. I used a S&W 6904 for my attempt. It's tougher to do than what you make it look. I didn't get it in the first 3 shots. I did get it on the 5th shot however. I have the Tisas 1911 1A, which I purchased after seeing you video, and really love it. It's a great gun and as close as I'll ever come to owning a GI 1911.

One thing on the trigger weight. These are marketed as "duty pistols". So the trigger is going to be a bit heavier. My staccato duty pistols are at 4.5lbs for that reason. If you are ever out this way you are welcome to try them.

My local range has one of these.
It has near suppressor height sights.
I found it to shoot low.
    I was slightly underwhelmed.
But I believe that if I worked with it for a while, I would probably come to like it a lot.
I’m very happy with my B9 carry.
It feels like a “cheat code” coming from my Sig P320.
Not as crazy about the 9-round capacity. But I’m way more confident in my ability to hit with it over other pistols.

My reaction to 2011s has been like yours--especially since all the competition-oriented modifications make them look bulky and heavy--but that pistol is a beauty. From what I'm seeing of the price, it's what is normal for a new 1911 pattern handgun.
I'm just annoyed by nature with the idea of a 9mm 1911. I would, however, like one in .38 Super.

This helps in everyone getting fair evaluation of the pistols initial performance and characteristics. It presents the initial exposure and information for a decision to
to explore this type of pistol further and whether to purchase one!! Looking forward to a possible more in depth review for performance and reliability with a wider range of ammo if possible!!

Good morning, HRFUNK and family. Happy Saturday to everyone there and BIG HUGS❤. Yes, sir. As much as I love my rock island tac ultra fshc 45acp dubble stack. Yes, as it also being a 2011 type pistol. Is it practical to carry. My opinion. No. She's 3.2 lbs full magazine and one in the chamber. WAAAAAYYYY, to heavy for concealed carry my opinion. For home defense and just working around your house outside and as a side arm if your out in the woods. 💯. Of course I'd rather have a 10mm when in the woods than 45acp. But as a carry pistol. No. I'd rather have a 1911 4.25 barrel as a carry pistol when away from my home. When Hornaday flex lock 45acp ammo.

I thought this was another excellent review, Howard; THANK YOU.
This Tisas 1911A1, like every other Tisas that I’ve ever seen or watched a credible review concerning, has an excellent design and outstanding materials and build quality. Quite simply, Tisas’ 1911A1s are fine and affordable firearms, J M Browning would be proud of their products.
With this said, however, I’ll raise a key question. Both this double stack Commander and its sibling the five-inch barrel Tisas 1911A1, are chambered in 9x19mm and have 17+1 capacities. Now, I was raised on 1911A1s, and I truly believe John Browning was a genius. BUT what do these weapons offer - in a practical sense - that isn’t provided by a BHP, or a Beretta 92 (and its descendants), or a CZ 75B (and its descendants), or a Walther P99 (and its descendants), or a Sig P226, or a Smith 39/59 series, or even striker fired M&Ps, or a CZ P-10 (and obviously the foregoing list could go on forever)?
Over the decades, I have found 1911A1s (and I owned excellent Colts, Kimbers, and Springfields) often to be somewhat more difficult to maintain (and, perhaps, even a little bit finicky). Yes, their DA triggers generally are superb and they are precision accurate, but (imho) so too are SA 9mm’s (like the BHP) and DA/SA 9mm’s (like Walthers, Berettas, Smiths, H&Ks, Sigs and CZs). In addition, I respectfully suggest some of these non-1911A1s are more tolerant of “field condition” issues. How many of us have experienced 1911A1 stoppages resulting from things that would not cause more modern designs to malfunction?

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  10 місяців тому +2

Thanks Roy. i still think the 2011 as a concept has more appeal to competitive shooters. The biggest advantage, in my mind, is the 1911 trigger. In the speed shooting games, that trigger system still reigns supreme. The 2011 couples that with the 17-round mags, and "Viola!" we have a super race gun. For the defensive shooter, the concept offers less. There are certainly those who will always think more is better when it comes to ammunition. I guess if those folks also have a fondness for the 1911 platform, the 2011 gives them the best of both worlds.

@@hrfunk To anyone reading this, you can definitely take my review with a grain of salt. The only handguns I’ve ever really fired was old M9s in the military and M17s with occasional casual fire with friends over the years. I’m definitely more comfortable with AR platforms.
Look I don’t care what anyone says, handguns are the hardest things to shoot that you can get your hands on. But after a few rounds I realized that the recoil is very comfortable, the weapon is not trying to jump out your hands. It just feels smooth and easy . That’s really nice for me because I don’t fight recoil, I let it do its thing and I get my sight picture again. Everything about how the weapon handled the rounds just feels good to me.
The trigger is great but it’s not easy to get used to. I had to wrap my finger around the trigger a little more to keep myself from pulling my shots but after I got used to it , I was putting rounds into the same holes . It’s a very smooth , accurate firing handgun.
What I like most was the reliability (so far) 150 rounds with zero issues, no malfunctions at all which is very important to me.
Overall , being an inexperienced handgun shooter and a completely green 1911 shooter, this is probably the best handgun I ever shot. I love it. Just very comfortable and easy to fire while being reliable so far and customizable ready. I’m not sure what more you could want at the price point .
