Buying these, pairing to my friend's bikes and having some fun along the rides...
🤣
🤣🤣
Classic. Lol true.
Thank you! Only person on the internet that even thought of measuring them, not even SRAM did. Been looking this all week!
Thank you for this video. I had to repair my blips and SRAM’s instructions were rubbish. Your explanation made it easy and clear. Thank you.
A recent update means they no longer need to be paired with a shifter/lever. They’ll pair direct to the RD/system.
@@gplama good to know. Thank you!
Now this is an awesome addition best in years I think 👌🏻
There is barely a bike related question that I search for these days where you don't come up as #1 hit!
@3:07 so for someone like me (who is not bothered about weight but is bothered about price), I see no reason to get neither Force nor Red then! What a time to be alive 😍

Wow awesome.. be great to fit to my Rival AXS :) good price to.. thanks for the review Shane great as always :)
Great to see app now has micro trimming. Was always difficult to push the small buttons on the shifters.
Been looking for this for a while. My FD rubs for several gears. Now I can adjust it at home and not take up valuable LBS time.
Non replaceable batteries? Someone should tell SRAM it’s 2022. A $100 device should not be disposable 🤦♂️
Agree, shame that they become e-waste. This makes it a no go for me.
It’s the new SRAM way, don’t forget they also sell disposable power meters!
That was also my first reaction but no I think that is a sane apprach by SRAM. Why make batteries replacable if the typically count of battery replacements for this product is zero? It just increases production cost / resource consumption for something the typically user will never do.
@@Cheg78 not sure there is a typical battery replacement count. Firstly it's a new product secondly people are being forced to throw away less these days - pandemic supply chain and production issues, finite resources and changing attitudes for to climate change. This is really poor from SRAM.
Is it rechargeable?
I have axs Force setup for a few months, this didn't work adding blips. Could just be software updates. I had to put RD into pair mode, pair left shifter then right shifter then FD, then each blip. This worked and if I skipped any of the last five pairings the one I skipped didn't work. Cant wait to try them out!
This kind of stuff is why im so excited to go with a wireless groupo. So many possibilities.
Big toe shifting. It has to happen!
@@gplama I'm going to put a pair on either side of my seat, so I can shift just by leaning to one side or the other...
These are what I need for my 1x gravel bike with a set of clip on aero bars.
I want to use it like that too for endurance gravel rides. What bars are you using?
If anyone having trouble pairing these make sure you’ve checked and update your firmware for all the axs components… solved the issue for me
Have just got hold of a set of these in the UK for my gravel bike, I'm not sure why SRAM couldn't have done a better job with the design/ shape, they're almost impossible to hide under bar tape..... Would love to see how others have managed to get round this ergonomic nitemare.
Really cool tech. Great review Shane.
Will get some.
Any news on a wireless version of the TT ‘clics’ (ES-EAC-CLIC-A1) which would fit the end of TT bars. Now that would be awesome
No word on wireless clics…. Yet:
I wonder if you could open these blips up and remove the ‘brains’ and then combine them with the existing Clics? Maybe even attach them to a narrower battery that would be replaceable, like the cr1/3n. I’m awaiting delivery of my wireless blips, I’ll see how brave/stupid I feel when they arrive.
Awesome, have you used them on your gravel bike? Where did you place them and how?
you can now offically make your road bike into a tt bike with just 2 ad on bars and these two little blips
Especially useful for Redshift’s quick release aero bars as you don’t need a waterproof plug when you take the bars off.
I have had this on my gravel bike for two years now, with blips in the aero bars tops. Whats new is the wireless bit, I have to take of my bar tape to disconnect the blips if I need to remove the tt-bars.
So they have pretty much been permanently fixed to my bike, regardless if i’m going on a trip with flat roads or gravel with only up down left right roads. But hey, they are nice to hang stuff on; like food pouches, my Garmin, phone, and lights.
Hi Shane, this is Edu from Oibik Getxo Spain (Online Indoor Biking). Thanks for all you dedicated work. I own an indoor biking center in Spain, I do reviews and also.have a little blog so your work is gold for me, and i try to pass onto the Spanish speaking community some of the info I learn from you. Thanks again.
By the way, I appears to me that this blips could be very useful for AXS indoor bikes with no breaking system don't you think? As long as they are previously paired then they just can go on without levers as I recall. What do you think about that?
Cheers!
Hi Edu. Once these are paired with a primary shifter of some kind, they'll work as you're hoping without levers.
@@gplama by pressing both blips can we shift FD?
Nice intro/outro, great acting :)
Ooooh Shimano you’ve got some catching up to do here!
Do you...have a microphone, in my head? Lol I was just thinking about this yesterday, have started to get into TT position more on my roadbike and wondering if I could somehow mount the wired blips on the end of my computer mount or something. Will definitely check these out, although I'm bit skeptical on the non-replaceable battery, so will see.
Sadly, seemed to have missed the boat on these as most places are now saying Oct. to Dec. for resupply. It would be a wonderful solution to my cable disc braked, drop bar mtb. Guess I'll hold on to the bar end shifter till they come back.
Lots in stock at Pushys here in AU. www.pushys.com.au/sram-etap-axs-wireless-blips-pair-black.html
Backorder placed baby!!
Hey great video, I was wondering if after the pairing you still need to have the actual lever/shifters on your bike? Because I have want to use retro brake levers and just add these buttons to shift. I could find an axs lever just for the pairing if that works. Thanks!
Once they're paired you don't need the other levers on your bike. If the pairing is lost/reset, you'll need them again.
I just bought the old eTAP wired blips for my aero bike. Might have to return for these. Do you have those also GP? What do you think of them vs these if you do?
Nice one SRAM
Non replaceable battery - e-waste included, cool!
Now if Sram could just intergrade with Garmin the way Shimano do via the hood buttons, it would be the perfect group set. (If you a Garmin Ecosystem user)
They've just acquired Hammerhead though.
@@pangjeremy Well lets hope that does not stop this from happening. I am sure that Hammerhead has less than 1% of the market Garmin holds and Garmin is happy for third parties to use there system like the rader. I hold thumbs. I love Sram have it on my MTB and love the feel of Red but sadly have 6 DI2 systems just because of the hood buttons.
They just need to put option flipping screens on Garmin inside app, so you can choose would you like that button for gear change or screen change on bike computer
Great Thanks!!
Do you know if you need to keep the shifters after your blips are paired? Can I install these on a TT bike as the only method of shifting if I "borrow" a shifter to do the pairing process?
No need to. Only needed for the initial pairing.
Does the primary shifter need to be a part of the system after setup? In other words, could I upgrade my mountain bike with a GX AXS rear der and a set of these? Then use the Rival AXS shifters from my CX bike to pair them and then roll without a primary shifter on the MTB?
Yes, you just need the shifter for pairing
Hey Shane, any mounting advice or guidance for how to mount them on standard road bars? Under the bar tape?
Under the tape and cutting little holes for the buttons does the trick. I might cover my gravel bike setup with them in another video soon.
@@gplama that would awesome, thanks 🙂
I’m thinking TT bike, but I probably wouldn’t buy these as the cost of wireless is still quite high (my SRAM mechanical system works great). If i was to buy them tho., i would want ample warning that the battery was low before the they fail, can they do that? I wouldn’t want to turn up at my A race with the worry that my shift buttons might fail on me; and also, I wouldn’t want to replace them prematurely if the battery was fine.
Hi Shane, It would be great if you could do a video on pairing a Blip to the Rockshox Reverb dropper. Great Video tho - very helpful :)
I don’t think that works… not for the wireless blips. support.sram.com/hc/en-us/articles/6225013965211-Can-I-use-SRAM-eTap-AXS-Wireless-Blips-with-my-Reverb-AXS-or-Reverb-AXS-XPLR-seatpost-
Your right - I apologize, so sorry to have wasted your time. James@@gplama
I was about to buy a pair of these but thanks to this page I realized that their batteries cannot be replaced. The manual claims they should last two years, but seeing how I go on 200+ km rides there is absolutely no way that I'm going to shell out this kind of money on something disposable.
Shame on SRAM for not choosing a sustainable design.
Just got a SRAM rival e-tap on my come Aethos so I am interested in them.
If I understand you correctly, I can pair both blips through a single eTap shifter? I've waited months for the left eTap shifter but have everything else for a conversion, including a right shifter. So, I presume I can get a pair of blips and just operate the left brake as is, on my 1x Force set up?
I guess so. These are AXS only though.
Hi Shane, do you know if there is a way to program the Blips to toggle head unit pages vs shifting on the Derailleur? Much like the di2 auxiliary buttons can do on the Shimano groups?
No, not at this point in time.
Hello Lama, great video. got me really thinking. I'm planning on upgrading a TT Bike to electronic shifting. Does this item render the Sram blip-box obsolete? I've seen that once the blip-box links to these remote blips, the blip box no longer needs to be on the bike. At $ 415 USD this seems like a high price for something that is no longer needed after linking. Am I missing something. thank you. love the videos.
opps, I got my answer reading some the older comments
A missed opportunity here to not have a remote wireless blip for the xplr dropper post. I’d consider getting one if you could have a remote dropper blip for it
Bikeradar says an upcoming firmware update will permit the Blips to work with the dropper
@@chriskent4687 but still need the rear mech to pair it to begin with? A stand-alone (single) dropper blip would be amazing
@@manningthomson7918 I would imagine you just pair it with the dropper in the same way you’d pair it with the rear mech. We will have to see
Shane can you confirm that once set up you dont need the blip box or shifters? Can I use the shifters from my gravel bike to set the wireless blips on my tri bike?
Once paired you don’t need the shifters or blip box.
Hi Shane, will the new DURA-ACE 9150 DI2 CLIMBING SHIFT's work with the previous iteration of Di2?
R9150 IS the previous iteration of Di2 :}}}. If you're asking whether or not SW-R9150 (previous climbing/sat shifter) will work with 12-speed Di2, then Yes - it will.
If you're asking whether or not the R9200 SW-RS801-T/S satellite shifters will work with the previous 11-speed Di2, then the answer is No :)
Weird that you need a shifter for setup... Otherwise you would just need a set of these, a rear derailleur and bob's your uncle for an MTB.
Or if you already have a set of mechanical road levers, you could leave them to just handle the braking, and upgrade the drivetrain with the blips + rd ...
If we can confirm that the shifter doesn't have to remain paired, it seems like something that your local bike shop (or a mate with a suitable shifter) could sort out while you wait.
The non-replaceable/non-rechargeable battery makes much more sense (to SRAM, at least) in that case; you'll be up for a new set every year or two
I've had some Rival AXS shifters on order for months now. Would love to be able to pair these up with my RD for my gravel bike and just blip these for shifting until my shifters come in (which isn't expected for another few months).
Shimano must come up with something similar to go with their new groupsets.
Excellent, informative video (I am using SRAM Force with blips).
I can just picture the weight-weanies getting all hot and sweaty over the 7 gram addition of a blip to their kit!! 🤣
True solution for roadbike with aerobar.
I've done just this with clip-ons for my gravel bike. Works great!
So you only need a shifter upon pairing yes ? Can this be used if you run mechanical cable shifters and use it to shift electronic RD ? Asking from a broke cyclist doing a piece by piece built. Thanks
Correct. I guess it could be used to hack together a franken-group in a few different ways.
So if I wanted to upgrade my mechanical TT setup to two sets of wireless blips, I’d have to buy a blip box just to pair them but then I wouldn’t need the blip box after that? Assuming also that I don’t want a $800+ aero bar. Not a complaint to you, Shane, just trying to clarify
Once paired they seem to work without the primary lever (eg BlipBox).
I read just take them to a local bike shop to pair (use their blip) then head home.
hello how are you I like to watch your videos I learn a lot, but today I have a question about the new sram AXS?? is it possible to use a combination of sram red and sram force on a bike? 🤔🤔🤔
yes
I never looked at a combination of sram red and sram force. i saw shimano dura ace and ultegra combined
He siad you could pair these with a mountain bike controller.....So I assume you could use an Eagle AXS shifter, is that correct?
So I had original sram red etap. The blipbox went bad, so I was able to buy the sram axs blipbox for the 11 spd sram etap with the firmware update. Does this still mean I cannot use the blips even though I have the axs blip box? (I have a pair and cannot get them to connect. I am assuming this is why)
Did you end up finding an answer to this question?
Can I get just one to control a dropper?
Is it possible to add more than 1 pair of blips to a derailleur? So a set on the TT bar extensions and a set on the bull horns?
Yep. I think you can add up to six, but do check the manual first! :)
My only concern getting rival on my next bike was if i wanted blips, now thats a non issue
same here
Hi Shane. Are these definitely available right now? Can’t see them anywhere to buy, and a few online articles are stating an April release. Thanks.
Their original press release said April. Their latest says now. They're in stock here in AU at Pushy's with "5+" listed as stock levels.
@@gplama Thanks for the reply Shane. Maybe it’s a time difference thing here in the UK? All the best.
I temporarily added a blip box with clicks to the ends of my aero bars. I was disappointed to discover that the addition of the blip box made the primary shifters on my Rival group set inactive. So I returned it. Do the primary shifters still work with theses new blips?
yes
Funny I just had that problem, see my comment on how I got blips and shifters working.
I'm thinking to upgrade my mechanical SHIMANO dura-ace 9000 to SRAM red etap AXS on my tt bike.
What I'm thinking is
#1. to use 4 piece of wireless blips to change gear
or
#2. using 2 piece of wireless blips for side of brake lever and ETAP clics on the aero bar on the middle.
In this case, Do I need blipbox?
You'll still need a primary shift unit to pair the wireless blips to the AXS system (or re-pair in the future). #1 will work. #2 still needs a primary shifter/Blip Box to plug the clics into.

Thank you Miller! This information really helped

AXS only.
Hope that rear derailleur survived the fall 😥
good cheap setup for 1xtt? what if i don't have a primary lever?
Each button can do only one action? I can't shift down and shift up with the same blip?
It seems that you don't need a primary shifter to pair the blips to your RD anymore. I paired them directly to a sram eagle gx axs RD.
Hi, is that real? I havent seen anybody else on the internet mention that, but that would be very nice if you could pair them directly to rd.
@@user-pq9sc4ur5r Of course it is real. I have done it myself. The reason you haven't seen any other mention is that it is very rare for someone to have an mtb and a roadbike with clip on bars for triathlon and both have sram wireless. I bought a pair of wireless shifters for my road bike and then i found a good price for sram axs gx rd only for my mtb upgrade. I bought the gx rd and i tried to pair the wireless shifters and it works. I don't know if it is a "bug" or a feature.
@@jazznroll5 damn, thanks. gonna grab a pair if I get a chance. I bet you can turn anything into a wireless shifter if you gut the board out of the blip.

Regarding the x1 primary shifter, “initial pairing only”
Could this be done via a friend’s unit, and then once pairing completed not have on the bike..?
The blip box is darn expensive and it’s kinda putting me of, the whole idea of going electric.
Intending to use these as my sole shifting on my x1 bike, hence why trying to get away with blipbox expenses.!

i wish the buttons are wider. it is afterall for thumbs and fingers.
Hi. are these only for shifting or can they be configured to control a bike computer (Wahoo Elemnt)?
Only shifting.
And idea if it's possible to pair more than 2 of these.little things?
Up to six (or seven with a BlipBox as per their tech docs iirc)
I tried to check on almost all shop and its not available. Do u know where can I get one? Thanks before
Pushys in Australia seem to always have stock.
Can you pare them with a dropper post ?
Finally!
Can it be used without the blipbox or being paired to an etap shifter first?
Yep. Once they're paired, you can use them without the blippy or shifters.
Can it be paired with sram axs dropper ? There is no place for big dropper button at scott spark (((
No, I don't believe so as there's no 'press and hold' with these like there is with wired blips/clics. Do check with SRAM support though as this may have changed.
hey! could one make a bike (say a flat handle gravel bike for example) that uses just blips?
Yes.
Can you flip screen on Garmin with that or is it only made for gear shifting? Thank you
No, just shifting.
@@gplama that's just sad.
I’m on a full red Axs setup 2X bike but do not have a blip box, nor access to a LBS with one. Would I be able to use the RD to set them up? Apparently either I missed read or somebody already did it.
You’ll need a lever to set them up. That’s all:
@@gplama Hey Lama! thanks for chiming in. Just to avoid cashing out 4 hounds on a blip box, the very same lever on my Red group would do, then, right?
If using on TT bike with 1x chainset. Can I set up & configure using a different bikes STI’s then use without so I don’t have to buy & fit the blip box?
Yes. But if at any point the pairing is reset (pressing the RD button for a few seconds will do it), you’ll have to re-pair using those levers or BlipBox again.
@@gplama thanks Shane. Guessing if you turn up to a tt race and need to repair/reset you could then be in a spot if bother (without the other bike there). I’ve seen a video online stating you can pair using front GX shifter(for 1x set up) Can get one of these for about 80quid. Might be worth purchasing and then chucking it in the toolbox. Cheaper than a blip box.

Kudos to SRAM for this very handy and uncomplicated product. But then kudos removed for non chargeable product! Super backwards thinking in 2022! How hard would it be to make it work with cell battery (as in watches)??? I know they claim 4-7 years lifetime (weirdly wide range), but then if it happens to die after 2 years and 2 months then customer is screwed. What a waste of an idea. Pity.
How many modern smart watches have replaceable battery?
@@theorifice 🤷♂️ how many watches comes with battery for single use and then you need to throw them out??? Also not sure why you are mixing smart watches into conversation. Smart watches have technology in that demand a lot of battery. These blips hardly use any battery - therefore if paired with cell battery, they would go for couple of years. Instead of throwing out the whole product that you paid $100 for.

One for SRAM Support. I only have AXS here to test with.
non replaceable batteries/ so when they run out you have to buy new ones? not overly eco friendly in this day and age, they could easily have built sufficient size units to incorporate a removable battery, they would have still been significantly smaller and lighter then stock shifters.
I can see a possibility that someone would attach this to a Dura ace levers and have a sram shifter but with a Shimano brakes
My first thought was using TRP brakes with these small shifters (TRP Hylex brake levers can have the di2 buttons inserted into the side), and then I heard about the "you need to have at least one shifter to pair.

Headed home and by “removing the derailleurs from the bike” and reinstalling. Now, I can’t shift via the blips. Anyone know how to set it up so that both shifters and blips work?
Okay, so I got it sorted. Shane didn't mention that his gravel set up is a 1 by if, like me you have a front derailleur you need to pair the front to the rear before moving on to the left then right shifter before the right and then left blip. Of course, always check for updates before installing new blips. I set them up as aero/climbing shifters by sticking them to the underside of my coefficient road bar. Very clean set up!

@@juanmateixido They are 12 speed wireless blips, and do not need a blip box.

Thinking there would be a someone to catch that out of view and an edited in soundbyte of something hitting the floor :) ? No?
