Good video. Explains the product well, how to install it, and the problems that can be encountered and solved. The close ups really did a good job of showing what you were talking about, great camera work. Thanks.
Thanks for the review and I appreciate your coverage in the field where you will most certainly run into issues, i.e. not having the time to get a closer look or correct tools to thoroughly complete the job like you may if you were at home. I was dealing with what I thought was a defective shifter and it turns out the lower small thumb lever was not engaging all the way, required a simple adjustment of turning the shifter bar mount just slightly away from the brake lever to clear a bit more. Now I feel confident saying the AXS is definitely the best upgrade I've made to by ride.
Enjoy! Just don't lose that little spring! Fortunately, the extra screw and spring that come in the box are identical to the original ones, so you'll have a backup.
Thanks, great review really helped - just fitted new lever to my AXS but found it too outboard. Then I noticed you have the matchmaker mounting brackets REVERSED! Left & Right on opposite sides - Eureka! I Didn't have a left bracket (1 X Drivetrain) so had to buy one, plenty in stock unlike the Right side.
I have just ordered this AXS Rocker shifter because the “new” Transmission AXS Pod Ultimate is just not workable for me. Could be because I am using the matchmaker mount which makes the shifter location dependent on the brake lever rotation.
Why they don’t release with the rocker as standard is beyond me; a way to drive extra revenue through rocker purchases perhaps. I preserved with the standard setup for months, but I was constantly getting the shift direction wrong, even switching the settings using the app. Just fitted the rocker and looking forward to my first ride with them.
The rocker feels natural based on the thing that you got used to, but it requires more thumb movement than the standard option. I wonder if you just need to give it some time and get used to what may or may not be a better option rather than trying to avoid change.
I've been using my axs shifter for about 2 months now (300) miles and I haven't accidentally shifted the wrong way in quite a while. It feels natural and I'm enjoying the design.
does your paddle have some play in it? I just put mine on today and noticed there is some wobble to it. Switched back to the old one to confirm it didn't do that.
Did you ever get an answer to this? I recently installed the “upgrade” on my GX, same as you: there is play. My X01 AXS has zero play with the same rocker paddle (it comes with the “upgrade” preinstalled). It’s annoying, honestly, because it seems like it’ll rattle around.
Isn’t the stock AXS rocker paddle more ergonomic and efficient cuz the thumb covers less distance to shift up/down? Maybe it just takes getting used to since we’ve all been trained to shift the old fashioned way.
My new bike came with the new version described in your video, however, the upper paddle shifts to smaller/harder gear and the lower paddle shifts to bigger/easier gear. This is opposite to what I'm used to with the mechanical version. Is there a way to reverse it so it feels more natural WITHOUT using the app? Is there a way to reverse it WITH the app?
Hello!! Great video!! Now after some months did you like this new design? I heard some complaints about the thumb being “stuck” with few space while not shifting. Did you feel it? I’m asking because I also don’t like the “original” style os the AXS... many times I miss the good and old traditional cable shifter... after more than 20 years riding the old style, I can’t update my brain to have a natural shifting with these electronics shifters.
Yeah, to be honest, we're still trying to overcome years (decades!) of muscle memory. It doesn't help that we're always switching between different test bikes, either, but the new paddle shifter definitely makes it more intuitive.
@@BikeRumor Great!! Thanks for your comments! I’m just waiting the day they will creat an electronic shifter with exactly the same pads position of the mechanic... it would be much better for old school bikers as we.
Your local shop should be able to order, and you can find it here: alnk.to/gzOMHju (this is an affiliate link, so we'll earn a small commission if you buy from this, which helps us keep doing what we're doing here at Bikerumor)
Wrenching outdoors on small parts while wearing bike gloves above a bunch of leaves gave me anxiety, haha.
We like to challenge ourselves.

nothing like "on the trail" upgrades... mine normally involve adding tubes to a tubeless wheel ;)

Terrific instructional piece. I just got the upgraded rocker paddle so now I'll know how to install it properly the first time. Thanks!

This was very helpful. Thank you !
Well-done, thanks. Really helpful.

Had similar problem with locking grip. Rotated grip so the thicker screw part is out of the paddles way.👍
When will there be a shifter that combines the reverb and the Eagle? I'm desperately waiting for the one handed solution!
have fun finding the feather in the leaves

you can only switch/reverse it with the SRAM AXS app. super easy!
plus points for working with riding gloves on.
Skillllzzzzzz
What if you want to run a front 2x etap system? Can you use that same shifter or do you need to get another one?
Eww

Hi. Great video. Tks its very helpful. Where can I get online the new paddle shifter to make the upgrade ?

sets buddies bike on drivetrain side:-) what shorts are you wearing in that video, amigo?
Very carefully...of course!
Pretty sure they're the Pactimo Tellus shorts.
What about with XT brakes...
use the band on clamp for it i'm sure it fits fine
How did you make the controller compatible with SRAM Matchmaker? Does the attachment come with AXS controller?
It doesn’t come with axs but if you have matchmaker already you should have this bracket already in place or you can purchase for like $10 online.
I like this better.
Th original works fine
llevas los frenos en posicion paralitico..normal que no te encaje...genio
same shit man!
