    I can't think you enough! Extremely helpful - even therapeutic - videos, no major lead-in, and music that isn't remotely distracting. You are MY HERO!!! I no longer live in Ca, but if I'm going to be in your area I'm going to make a point of booking an appointment as a thank you for all of this.

      Happy to help! You get what I'm trying to do. I can tell, out of all my videos, I am most proud of the shoulder series. Keep following it. Stabilizing a shoulder can take many months but your course is set before you.

    Hello Dr Fields from Scotland! I have been following your series 1 - 4 Strong Shoulder videos for several years. I have got chronic arthritic hips and the 1st Video all done in Standing locks my hips and seems to annoy the hip joints. The 2nd Video works much better. Have you found a routine that helps reduce the pain level with arthritis in the hips? I love your positive message and always with a smile. Hope to hear from you with many thanks.

    How do I avoid neck tension during these exercises? It creeps up almost right away when I stick my chest out and I'm pretty sure I am using the right muscles for these exercises.

      GREAT question. The whole goal of this video is to get you to do the exercises while pulling your shoulder down toward your hips. Start with, literally, 1lb until you can accomplish the video without lifting your shoulders. Then, slowly increase the weight. A reprogramming of the muscles is going to happen.

    Hi, I am male gender age 54 and from India and recently cultivated interest for doing exercise at home. For that purpose , I had purchased dumble set of different weights plates viz 2.5 kg *4 and 4kg*4 which could be inter changable. When I visited at sports store, I also saw a dumbel sets of 1 kg , 2 kg [in small weight] and initially I presumed that what is the purpose of such small weight of dumbel set, probably these could be for female / lady. I asked sales person of that store that why you sell such small dumbles set but he could not answer with facts. After seeing your videos on youtube, I realised that if novice person like me wants to start doing exercise at home, one should always starts with small weight than gradually weight can be increased. In your all videos, a simple looking different format of exercise can be done by anybody without causing any injury to any muscle part. Your videos are best one compare to any other videos available in youtube. Please keep posting such nice video.

    What does the clicking with slight pain imply?,when am working out your shoulder exercises.
    Is it a bad signal?or should I altogether refrain from working out.
    Thank you for your kind response.

    These videos are amazing and have helped me so much! I can’t thank you enough. I noticed when I do the scapular dips, the affected shoulder is higher and sticks out more than the right. Any advice for correction? Thank you again!

      Hi Joy, I'm so glad you are gaining benefit. Try to look in the mirror when doing the scapular dips and make your shoulders the same height or even over correct a bit.

    Adam, do I do video 1, then in 2 days do videos 2 and so on? Or should i be doing a few weeks at each video?

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  4 роки тому +3

      Good question. I'd say to stay with #1 and the shoulder video with no weight (very good video) for a couple weeks and slowly add 2, 3 and 4 as they are more challenging. You're on a good road. Keep it up!

    Are these exercises more suitable for men or women can do them too? I have very weak neck and shoulder muscles and I found these videos that it is easy to follow. But will I get men shoulders if I continue doing these exercises 😄😄😄 thanks

      You will have gorgeous shoulders. So many women are afraid of getting too big. This is difficult to do. You will just get toned and strong. Also do the 7-Part Neck Pain Relief Series. ua-cam.com/video/XCFap7diu3E/v-deo.html

    Hello, Doctor Fields. Would you recommend this series for a grade 2 AC joint separation? The first day worked great for me but this looks a little too challenging to me. Thank you for everything you do!

    • @dradamfields

      I went OTB (over the bars) at high speed on my mountain bike years ago and have a grade 2-3. These are great for me but, if it's a fresh injury, start very slow and very light. Also, do some massage under your clavicle. BTW- To give you some hope, I haven't had any residual pain or soreness from mine...just a bump. Now that i mention it, you'll see it on my left side. Our secret : ) Take care and tell yourself, "I'm getting stronger every day".

      Thank you for taking the time to respond, doctor! Working on taking care of myself, in large part thanks to your videos - not only the exercises themselves but also the attitude you're teaching. Listening to one's body and taking the time to actually feel good instead of following the 'no pain no gain' route has helped tremendously. You have a beautiful day, sending positive vibes your way! Thank you!

    The reason we arch our back is because shoulders are weak? After strengthening our shoulders should we continue arching that much our back when doing back exercises?
    Thank you.

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  4 роки тому +3

      George Sofroniou is you look at gymnasts or power lifters you will see athletes who demand a lot from their bodies and save their spines by putting that arch in. So, an arch while the abs are still braced is a good way to think about it. There are some exercises in Pilates for instance, where we do the opposite but they are not weight bearing. See my low back in the mat video and you will be given some ab exercises without the curve. Thanks for the great question.

    Thanks for the good work

      Matthias Exler It’s all about gradually building up. Initially, you’re just telling your nervous system that these moves are OK. If you’re going to use that way, make sure you don’t lose your form with your chest up and your shoulders down.

    When lying prone with knees bent feet flat and moving the arms with weights, why do you cue to arch your back? What happens to you core stability?

    • @dradamfields
      @dradamfields  3 роки тому

      A lot of questions on this. I am a huge fan of engaging the abs while maintaining a curve in the lumbar spine. A "bracing" like someone is going to punch you but with a curve. As long as it feels okay in your own body, it increases strength in the lower back.

    • @wilhelminahenry5168
      @wilhelminahenry5168 3 роки тому

      I practiced Shotokan Karate for 13 years and they taught us to tighten or brace or stomach muscles when taking a punch or kick to the stomach, but no mention of a lumbar curve. The Pilates Community would not agree with maintaining a lumbar curve in the supine position and loading your abdominals when lifting your legs, as it could shear a disc?

      Just pull your shoulders down to your hips and them there as hard as you can. As far as the De Quervain's goes, try some ESWT. ua-cam.com/video/cbkDlkADdsw/v-deo.html

      If you workout with good posture, you are improving your posture. Also, look into a corrective chiropractor.

      You cannot stop doing them but only the amount of weight you can handle. You can even start with no weight. Check out my new video of shoulder exercises which use no weight.
