*In the US charts, this was the last number one of the 80s and the first number one of the 90s as it was in the top spot over Xmas and New Years 1989.*
I think this song and "Man In The Mirror" came out within a year and a half of each other. That's why this song was very influential. Even though MJ said "make that change", Collins said "just think about it..."
I suppose the only reason to downvote this is due to the talk of sending cash to Ukraine or Israel instead of helping our own, and not because of the song. I say both things are important and we can give money to help other countries while helping our own at home. We give billions each year to African nations to help them, and I approve of America helping the world....but not forgetting to help the poor here in America.
I like to watch some of your videos from the beginning of your channel. The evolution and changes have been all positive. The graphics are a nice touch to make a point. Thanks for all the effort to create quality content.
Beautiful, I love Phil Collins. Very deep, great analysis as always. He does a great set at Live Aid, including one with Sting that is very pertinent to the cause. Worth a check out. I’ve worked with homeless young people for most of my career as a youth worker, I haven’t seen any change in thirty odd years 😢
You have a realistic insight regarding social issues. Someone once said we are all only one pay check away from homelessness, so many people doing it hard at a time we could be doing so much more for our brothers and sisters 🤷🏽♀️
Phil Collins is best known as the drummer/singer of the rock band Genesis in the 70's & for his solo career. He has had so many great hits such as "In The Air Tonight", "I Don't Care Anymore", "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)", "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Take Me Home", "Two Hearts", "A Groovy Kind Of Love", "I Wish It Would Rain Down" etc. "Another Day In Paradise" is a great song showcasing the plight of the homeless.
He really should have had a drum solo in the middle there somewhere. I jest. And you're right, it is not like the title might make you think. Three similar songs come to mind, and both timely for the Christmas season. "Charlie Freak" by Steely Dan, "Christmas Song" by Jethro Tull, and "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" by The Hollies. All timeless classics which remind us to be good people.
Hey JM! I've been enjoying your reactions and have just subscribed. Your comments were well said. Unfortunately, this song is still very relevant. I'd like to suggest another song that hits like this. Pearls by Sade. Look forward to your reaction.
Like your point that there are many reasons for some to be homeless but we as a society have not taken the steps to help in a meaningful way. Mental Health is grossly underfunded.
This song has always been a hard listen for me. . Any one of us can end up on the street if circumstances line up in the right (or wrong) way. People nowadays are so uncaring, angry and so cold...they will let you die there. . If this song doesn't tug at you heartstrings, your emotions....you have no soul.
ive been hearing that crap for 50 years and the poor are richer than they were 50 years ago.. when i was a kid. no one could afford to get fat and buy celphone type shit on what you got for free from the government.
@@ripvanwinkle2002 There are also WAY more homeless people than there were 50 years ago. There are more people without health insurance and way fewer people with pensions.
@@mikemiller3069Funny how if you pay people to not work and give them free drugs and celphones you get an epidemic of people being homeless.. weird how making it super easy to be homeless makes more people be homeless..
@ripvanwinkle2002 It's because of your type, who vote against their own self interest, that result in people like trump and Musk paying less than I'm taxes than I do because you're too dumb to realize that they take far more from society than the homeless do. You don't get that the oligarchs take 1000x more out of your pocket than the homeless do. I hope you get the chance to walk a mile in the shoes of the homeless since you think it's such a glorious lifestyle.
@@ripvanwinkle2002 that people given a basic income spend it on drugs isn't true. Tests of giving $1,000 a month have shown they spend it on food, basic needs or getting training . Some even managed to save up and start a small business. You're entire post is based on lies told by the rich to demonize the poor to hid the fact that the rich and corporations are stealing from you.
When this song was released, all of Phil Collins concert proceeds went to various Homeless Shelters and Advocates...
😮❤
Phil Collins... A humble, unassuming, simple man with a history of musical awards and accolades few others have achieved.
One of only 3 artist to have sold over 150 million albums solo and part as a group! Can't get much higher than that.
@@js0988 Along with McCartney and Jackson Good company
Homelessness is very near & dear to Phil.At his concerts he would pass a bucket around for donations & he would always match it!
FYI, that's David Crosby singing background vocal in this song
I knew this song would bring another insightful analysis. Thanks again.
❤❤❤ This great song is still relevant today from the fabulous Phil Collins. Thanks for reacting to this song.❤Stay safe
One of my favorite solo artists when i was in Jr. High. Great song.
Yes... Keyboards on those notes. Great arrangements from a great artist
Sad but true story , beautiful song thank you

L.T.D. - Love Ballad
At Phil’s solo concerts he had collections for the homeless …he then matched whatever was collected and his record company did the same

Hi, JM. Great song, great reaction. You should try his song "I Cannot Believe It's True", it worth a listen. Cheers from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This qualifies for the Sad Songs playlist

Another excellent song in this genre is "Night Patrol" by Robert Cray...
