7:53 after hearing this song and seeing the video for the first time, I told my mom I wanted to play trumpet for Phil Collins! I was 8 at the time, LOL, but I did play trumpet for about 7 years!
Next music lesson; Phil Collins and Philip Bailey - Easy Lover. It's just a banger! In 2015, when Collins was asked “What would you consider an artistic achievement?” Collins replied: “Easy Lover. If you put this record on today, it still sounds good. “It doesn’t age.” I 've got the long time record (in Germany called Maxi Single) at my 14th birthday as a present and I still love this song until today! "The brass section is fire!" Well, they should be. They're from Earth, Wind, and Fire. They are the Phoenix Horns. Phil used them often for his solo projects. If you want a true "Yacht Rock" song, you listen to Crosby, Stills, and Nash "Southern Cross". It's actually about Steven Stills' yacht of the same name.
Wikipedia-Collins has said that he "improvised" the lyrics. Collins was playing around with a drum machine, and the lyric "su-sussudio" was what came out of his mouth. "So I kinda knew I had to find something else for that word, then I went back and tried to find another word that scanned as well as 'sussudio,' and I couldn't find one, so I went back to 'sussudio'", Collins said. According to Collins, the lyrics are about a schoolboy crush on a girl at school
Love Phil! He did a lullaby for his daughter Lily and later sang it for the Disney movie Tarzan. It might be something you could play for your new baby girl. It's called 'You'll Be In My Heart'.
As a dad of two girls, you definitely need to check out ‘You’ll Be In My Heart’. I wanted to play this for the father-daughter dance at my daughter’s wedding, but she didn’t want it because she said she would cry and ruin her makeup.
Your impression of Micheal McDonald was accurate. :) Also, that's Leland Sklar playing bass next to Phil. That dude has played for EVERYBODY. Funny thing, he looks pretty much the same today as here in the video. Last point, you should check "I Can't Dance" by Genesis, which was the band Phil was in before he went solo.
The concert I saw was for this album, No Jacket Required. It was a HUGE hit and all over the radio-and proof he was a super talented composer, singer and performer. It began his all over presence in music that eventually led to a backlash from people saying he was overexposed and a sellout. Hindsight has proven them wrong--he was simply a super talented dude doing what he was meant to do-create music and perform it to bring it to people who appreciated great music.

The Yacht Rock legend you imitated (quite well!) is Michael McDonald who wrote many songs for other artists and sang background for many artists along with his solo stuff and his stint leading the Doobie Brothers.
I just love his voice and energy! Sussudio was about a girl but it was a made up name that he used with writing the melody then he wrote the lyric s and couldn’t come up with a real name to plug in that fit the melody so he kept it! Serendipity! ❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻

I love me some Phil Collins!j) We used to jammed out to his music in the 80s. My understanding recently that all the songs he wrote were about his wife who they divorce because of his wanting to be a musician. Most of the jams that he made talking about love and loss were about his wife.
he does the whole soundtrack on the original disney Tarzan movie, which i love his voice is so unique. he never said sail away in this song 🤦🏽♀️ he said say the word.
Phil Collins isnt really considered Yacht rock, but I think some of his slower songs can be put into that genre! For me, yacht rock artists consists of.... Little River Band, America, The Doobie Brothers, Loggins and Messina, Toto, Dan Fogelberg, Poco, Gerry Rafferty, James Taylor, etc....One of my favorite genres of music! ❤

3:18 Chester Thompson. He played drums 🥁 for Genesis when Collins does not.
3:42 Bearded man on left is Leland Sklar. He played bass guitar 🎸 for Collins and many musicians. Leland Sklar has a UA-cam channel where he teaches anybody to play ▶️ bass guitar 🎸. He, Rick Beato, Wings of Pegasus and Mary Spender have problems with musicians (such as AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Don Henley, Estate of Prince and Garth Brooks and any client of Irving Azoff) call for takedowns of videos. 😖
Suggested video 📹: 1 Phil Collins and Sting sing Take Me Home 🏡. 2 Peter Gabriel sings Big Time.
Phil and Genesis are great live. You should check out Mama live at Knebworth, 1990. You won't be disappointed. 😊
Thats my Phil thank you for reacting too it!!!!❤
Love Phil Collins. If you have not you should check out his live version of In the Air Tonight. Love your reaction!
Good energy song for the gym.
I heard this band when I watched the movie Kickboxer, I haven't gone down the rabbit hole yet but this is a good starting point.
Phil is so fun...rockin 😜
I love the songs you really jam to. You sir, are amazing!!
I recently made a playlist of music I wanted to listen to when I am with my 5 year old nephew. I was pleasantly surprised by how many Phil Collins/GENESIS songs were on there, the calm before the storm of AC/DC, AEROSMITH, BOSTON, DEF LEPPARD, GUNS & ROSES, KISS, LED ZEPPLIN, METALLICA, MOTLEY CRUE, OZZY OSBOURNE, NIRVANA, PEARL JAM, POISON, QUEENSRYCH, SOUNDGARDEN, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, VELVET REVOLVER & WHITESNAKE. I realy enjoyed your reaction to the Professor OF Rock. Sent a thumbs up and a sub.
He was so handsome and talented!
I heard this the other day and thought a Black Pegasus reaction would be cool. Thanks man!
One thing I love about 80's music is the horns!!! And I'm a Metal Head! Never heard of Yaht rock though.....
BP could you react long long way to go, by Phil, this song was used in Miami vice. Check out the version live from Paris. (Live and lossse in Paris)
I love me some Phil Collins!j) We used to jammed out to his music in the 80s.
My understanding recently that all the songs he wrote were about his wife who they divorce because of his wanting to be a musician. Most of the jams that he made talking about love and loss were about his wife.
to me the first and best yaht rock song is from Christopher Cross, Sailing This song just takes you away. you closes your eyes and you are sailing.
💘💘💘💘💘 Phil Collins is wonderful. Try Genesis' "Mama". Phil is so different in that song.
Such a banger. Phil Collins was a Staple for me growing up. Great reaction as usual my friend and Peace out ✌️ ☮️
he does the whole soundtrack on the original disney Tarzan movie, which i love his voice is so unique. he never said sail away in this song 🤦🏽♀️ he said say the word.
I agree. Is meant for a Yacht. Danced to it many times on Booze Cruises on Lake Ontario!
And an amazing yacht rock Classic to check out is Christopher Cross sailing
Love Phil !!
I agree. But that’s the brilliant things about Phil. You can’t put him in a category. I think when he was with genesis maybe yacht rock more so 🤔
xx
Phil Collin’s DRUM DUET with Chester Thompson (Genesis & Phil’s tour drummer) from the “1987 GENESIS Invisible Touch Tour Wembley Stadium” Must be this particular one. PLEASE check it out. 🥁👍🥂
The genre is TOP 40.
The horn section is from Earth, Wind & FIRE 🔥🔥
Song never gets old for me.
