People have no idea how much of a blessing it is to have a originator be this humble in speaking in the origin of his creation, this story is parallel to anyone that’s ever been the originator of anything that caught on in a culture, from iphones to jay-z’s music. Luckily we have Rodney Mullen who has the blessing of being naturally humble to peek into the mind of what it’s like to be the originator.
I’ll never forget getting to meet Rodney in St.Louis when I was a teen in the late 90s He tagged along on tour with the blind team, Ronnie Creager, Lavar McBride,Gideon Choi and those guys. It was a great day. Now I feel old lol

@G Shrooms? Drugs? Shrooms aren't drugs. You have a lot to learn. Psilocybin is a medicine, and natural. Not like the synthetic drugs we chemically create. There's a reason Psilocybin is used to treat depression and to help those who are dying come to terms with their deaths. It's one of the most beautiful substances life has blessed us with.
@@camb6818 Right, but if we were to discuss this semantically, then it can accurately be affirmed that both words have their own meanings, regardless of any interplay between them. Psilocybin is only viably labeled as a drug because it's an illegal, controlled substance; however, it is not an addictive substance - ironically, it helps to cure addiction (as well as depression and death woes, as I mentioned). A medicine promotes healing, whether it's physiological or otherwise. A drug does as well, however, "drug" is the pharmacological term for a substance used as medicine, and these substances are mainly synthetic, and mainly serve as a catalyst to the body's chemical processes. You're not wrong, but a derogatory perception is usually associated with the word "drug", predominantly when used to describe a recreational substance - but Psilocybin is much more than that. In fact, continued use of Psilocybin doesn't inspire a recreational use of it - and I say this both from experience and an understanding of it. Even today, Semantics is a dominant field in Philosophy, because it governs language and our understanding of it, as well as the symbols we use to define the world and things around us, so it's important to garner expanded perceptions of language/words that may seem or feel limiting. It's important to recognize distinctions between these terms because the two aren't mutually synonymous, yet they can be (as you said). My only point was that Psilocybin falls under the definition of "medicine" much more strongly than "drug". In fact, the only definable way (as I mentioned above) that it is considered a drug is through the fact that it's an illegal substance that (usually, first timers) are prone to using in social settings (which I highly do not recommend).
The pure passion Rodney has when he speaks really is something beautiful, I haven’t rode since I broke my back in motorcycle wreck but watching Rodney’s videos is about to make me build another board

I love how humble he is, I mean he invented the trick that has become almost synonymous with skateboarding.
I’ll never forget getting to meet Rodney in St.Louis when I was a teen in the late 90s He tagged along on tour with the blind team, Ronnie Creager, Lavar McBride,Gideon Choi and those guys. It was a great day. Now I feel old lol
6:30 is such a tease !
We want a full 1 hour video session with the Mutt 👑 !!!
(And as a bonus - do it live-stream so we can ask him questions in real time)
Good luck keeping in under 1day
the world needs more Rodney Mullen!
I wanna take shrooms with this guy. And I've never taken any. But this is the guy
hi i love watching ur vids
G nigga he said it once
@G Shrooms? Drugs?
Cee Truth drugs are another word for medicine, along with other definitions of course
This is like Dr Heimlich saying “it’s just a variation of a hug”
Rodney exhales the most calming speaking ever. I cant explain what this man is, I feel like he is aware he is a legend, but at the same time, doesnt feel like one, extreme humble guy. Him and Tony were the first people Ive ever looked up in life. The two guys I most want to meet in this life.
sweet gaming setup in the background.
Dude, Rodney is just special. ❤️
Inspiration... thanks Mullen!
Rodney is the man. Thank you Berrics and Rodney for making this happen. Love hearing these stories. You guys should have a podcast.
Leave it to Rodney to land a kick flip a few hours after he starts trying it. Basically no one can do that nowadays, and he did the first one within one day. Truly mind blowing.
This is the video i have waited my whole life for. please more rodney.
This man has done some of the most technically challenging tricks, decades before anyone else would even attempt them. I'm certain that some of them haven't been done since.
You don’t typically see anyone landing 360 flip darkslides consistently 😂 nowadays. Truly ahead of his time.
The legend. Thanks for everything Rodney. Cheers from El Salvador.
Digital92Ghost bro be safe out there! skate forever!!! maybe we'll meet one day!!
One of these days dude!
I fking love skateboarding. I'm so thankful to be a part of the unity for it. First tre flip I ever did was fakey because I couldn't do it going forward regular. Good stuff.
I cant even kickflip or tre flip properly after 10 years of skating but I can fakie kickflip and big flip with ease. Skateboarding is whacked sometimes.
So much respect, thanks for kicking the boulder loose that lead to the avalanche that is street skateboarding and skateboarding in general...and for talkimg about that bridge to Natas and Jason Lee!
Imagine his grandchild going "Yeeeeeah right, sure you invented the kickflip, Grandpa."
Talk about humble.... the life lessons I learned from skateboarding and it’s all because of him.
"There could be some kid in Madagascar " man, what a legend
Rodney is such a genuine, awesome guy. We need more Rodneys
DO A MAGIC FLIIIIIIP!
I started skating in the 90s, and always loved mullen. Although freestlye wasn't that hip. I have so much respect for him what he has done for skating in general. But also the humble attitude, he's truly a gem in skateboarding and skateboard history. And for me he's an example to stay grounded. Best of luck to him from the Netherlands. Cheers,
This dude’s the defenition of having no stress
actually he dealt with SO MUCH STRESS for a long period of time when he was pro for swatch, A team ,world industries and plan b when his buddy mike died
He's the opposite of that. He's constantly stressed, even now. He doesn't even enjoy being around other people. He does it because he feels it's his duty and people ask. (Not my words, his.)
@@Nomad_Skateboarding True humility.
@@Nomad_Skateboarding is that from a video?
I just love to listen to him talk. Rodney I cant tell how influential you were to me growing up you've inadvertently helped me through some serious times so thank you.
I can see Dustins kickflip crook in my head too... very nice choice rodney
So humble and so smart, could listen to this man all day
“Ollies were just a better way to get up curbs”
Thanks for sharing and recording this piece of history.
Basketball has Michael Jordan.
Skateboarding has Rodney Mullen.
No comparison at all. Michael Jordan is a complete asshole, Mullen is likeable and humble.
@@jdogstube not to mention Mullen invented street skating. Jordan was the shit at basketball no doubt. But everyone already knew how to dribble.
If all basketball has is Jordan than it’s a good thing the season got cut short because not shit would happen.
Oh right. Basketball is boring.
@@jdogstube I'm talking in terms of legacy status, not attitude.
@@franchisepeat Jordan revolutionized his respective game much like Mullen revolutionized the sport of skateboarding.
He’s still a legend in my book. When I played any Tony Hawk game I always picked Rodney.
Jonny Giger has to skype Mullen
I've heard the story countless times so props to him for making yet another video of it!! What a legend this guy is. Wish I could find more recent footage of him skating
Jesus loves you all !! just a reminder none of you are alone . accept Jesus in your heart to be accepted into heaven ! God bless you all
His such a happy peaceful man. Truely an inspirational dude. ❤️🙂
