- I am on Svalbard, Norway and this time I am exploring an ice cave and as usual - doing wildlife photography. Besides taking you behind the scenes at my job as a nature photographer, I am also sharing my daily life here on Svalbard.
I am lucky again and another storm is hitting Svalbard which ones again gives me the opportunity to photograph the reindeer in whiteout.
I am also visiting the museum to learn a bit more about the history of Svalbard.
When I am not doing my small projects I am staying either in my small cabin or together with my friends from Greendog.

Wow! Thank you for sharing that incredible ice cave, but I almost had a panic attack watching you crawl around inside it! Don't think I know anyone who gets so excited about cold, blowing wind and snow, but the images you capture are beyond incredible.

Absolutely amazing. I've been caught out in these kind of conditions for short times. People just don't realize all it takes to survive and travel in those conditions. 5 miles can seem like an eternity to travel. All the work it takes to just get those photos and your humbleness about the whole thing. Astounding.

What a beautiful ice cave! No sculptor could create all this. Just nature! It seems impossible that in such extreme conditions there could be life. Instead I saw happy children, people and animals. amazing and wonderful😍

I'm watching this and as soon as you started into the cave I started saying "No... no, oh no way". I haven't stopped yet.
That is so fantastic. If I were in that cabin with the storm blowing, I would have put more logs in the woodstove, some more coffee then slip into a warm bed.
But Morten is excited like a kid in a candy store.

Fascinating pictures from the ice cave. Around here are several dripstone caves and every now and then photographers get the permission to take pictures inside, but the colours within are nothing compared to the glittering of ice. I'm impressed when you ski within a snowstorm without loosing direction. I remember we once were surprised by a snow storm in the Swiss Alps and it was so hard to see where to go, when you barely see the tips of your skis but no other markings, but we had to find our way down without falling over rocks or stumbling down a cliff. As the weather forecast had been ok and it was an official slope noone had thought of a compass or other useful equipment.

Navigating can be tricky and I always bring my compass and a gps.

Thanks for your constant inspiration Morten! I only took up photography 7 years ago but it's content like this that pushed me and now I travel the World photographing wildlife and landscapes for a living. Circumnavigated Svalbard last August and the place stole my heart 😊

Would love to see how you set up some of the shots when alone. You must set up a camera, walk off into the blizzard, come back and take the setup down, so you are doing most things twice I think.
