- Wildlife photography - Musk Oxen part 1
Nature Photographer Morten Hilmer takes you behind the scenes in this wildlife photography adventure where he spends several days camping in the snow covered mountains of Rondane National Park in Norway - in his search for the amazing Musk Oxen.
-------------------------------------------------
••• ABOUT THIS EPISODE •••
-------------------------------------------------
In the winter time it is very difficult to get to the oxen and back again in one day and further more I like to stay for several days on location to get the different weather - therefore I have brought my tent and equipment so I am able to camp in this amazing winter landscape.
In this VLOG i do my very best to share how I work as a wildlife photographer and how I overcome the challenges. Hopefully I can inspire you to get out on your own photo adventures - no matter if it is to the local forest or to the highest mountains. Most important is the amazing experiences nature gives.
Join me on this nature photography journey and enjoy the snow covered mountains, the muskoxen and the beautiful northern lights.

"THE FIRST THING FOR ME IS NOT TO GET THE PHOTO BUT BE HERE AS PART OF NATURE AND DON´T DISTURB"...... Where´s the "Applause" button here?
Thanks you so much for your awesome comment. I am so glad you appreciate the way I see nature.
@@MortenHilmer just found video what a way to start!!!! You are addicted my friend to the situation not the result. What a statement and listening to your voice....what a rush.
You are awesome man.
U don't want to disturb the daily routine of the animals in any way. You more worrying about their life than that of taking good photo.
Hats off man 🙏👌👌
Man i think i would of forget to take the pictures from admiring the scene and the animals.
About 4 years late to the game, but just want to say how much I appreciate your respect for nature and wildlife. Your description of their behaviors and how to read their body language is really valuable for everyone to learn and be cognizant of. So thank you!
I absolutely love your videos. I always watch them from start to finish. So relaxing
wow! What a beautiful storytelling and stunning creatures, keep up the amazing work Morten!
Thank you so much Christian. I just watched your video where you are doing wildlife photography and and I am so happy you saw the hare and the deer. You really got some great moments there and your photo of the deer is amazing.
Hello Morten, I have been following you for a month now watching your old videos. Learnt lot of lessons from you as a Photographer.
My respect to you when you said that taking photo is not the first thing to do but to be with the nature. Inspirational.
"It doesn't get much better than this" So true. Its nice to watch videos where the passion and enthusiasm shine through.
Simple things like the sun rising or seeing the northern lights give you so much pleasure. Just being part of nature.........Awesome!
I am amazed, your pure joy, the stunning landscapes, your coping skills in horse environment and the great creatures, Musk Ox.
The closeness of man to wild beasts and to the dark starry cosmos is so touching it nearly made me cry!
Thank you so much for leaving such an awesome comment. I really appreciate Loreta. I hope you will have an awesome Christmas with the people you love. All the best, Morten
If I could only enjoy half as much this nature as Morten can. I’ll be a rich man. Thinking of that brings a tear in my eye. This is better than everything. Thanks Morten.
It is so kind of you to writing me such an amazing compliment Edwin. Thanks so much and enjoy the story
Morten Hilmer just keep up those beautiful stories and adventures . Perhaps ssomeday I can find my photography adventure to.
For now I stick to woodlands. Instagram: lm_imaging
I’ll keep watching. 👋🏻
The moment when you lean over to take a better view of the Musk's in the Camera LCD, then realize you are behind your TV instead!
Love how you are able to capture your audience and making them believe as if they are with you.
Thanks a ton for sharing all your videos, they are an inspiration to me.
Haha - I know exactly that feeling. It might be because we are photographers:) Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking your time to write me such a nice comment.
I'm loving working through your videos Morten! Also, it's so brilliant that you mention that objective #1 is to not disturb the animals. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise and experiences.
Doesn't get much better than this. So authentic...videos like this, you wish just wouldn't end. Thanks.
+MadsHilde thank you very much 😀👍 it doesn't end just yet. Already working on part 2.
What a nice, sympathetic person! Huge respect for your work and attitude for nature!
Hi Morten. I came across your videos not long ago and watched them all in a blink of an eye. I couldn’t get enough. I find your videos to be very inspiring and make me want to do more outdoor adventures around the world. I love nature, traveling and photography and these videos shows it all. I particularly appreciate your respect for nature even in such a remote and harsh situation. I wish I could be there with you in one of these adventures, even though it looks quite challenging. You carry around a lot of gear and you make it looks like it’s nothing ... but I’m sure it’s something that adds to the difficulty of the situation. So, thanks for sharing this with us and if you’ll ever come to Italy I’ll by you a cup of coffee (which you seem to like quite a lot ;-)).
You are a genius!!! All is perfect in your videos!👏👌👍🌟😊
Thank you very much for your nice comment Dani Aguayo, I really appreciate:) What a wonderful compliment to get - that really encourage me to make more..
This is so much fun to watch!
Also, it's really sweet that you care about the oxens and about not disturbing them.
Your videos are so well put together! I love the music and the footage of the animals. You seem very genuine, and even the simple moments of coffee in the tent make me feel like I'm right there with you. Your enthusiasm for the animals and the scenery comes across great. I was laughing at the part when you went into the snow up to your knees, and was holding my breath during the musk ox duel. I was wondering if you got the chance to see the aurora, and then bam, there it was. Just an amazing video. I look forward to more!
Thanks you so much Mick for your awesome comment - it is so motivating for me :) Feedback like this is so incredible helpfull and encouraging for me:) Looking forward to showing you part 2;)
We can always count on Morten for a beautiful and captivating story...Thanks for yet another breathtaking journey!
Morten your videos truly are a work of art. I love how down to earth you are and how you are excited for freeze dried food. Not many people are so humble. Keep up the amazing content and if you ever had a group trip planned I would attend in a second.
Such a gift you have given us, Morten. Thank you for this, from Canada.
Really enjoy watching Morten allways such a happy out look so passionate about the world round him
Morten, I take my hat off to you. Really excellent persistence in challenging conditions. Great job.
I love your connection with nature the way you prefer to be the quiet observer first as opposed to being the imposing instigator. This may be the greatest video of its type that I’ve seen. I hope that you receive an award for this. BRAVO...!!
Hi Morten, this film was riveting. Watched every second. Keep this content coming, it’s brilliant. I love camping, wild camping too but I hate the cold. I’m in two minds weather I’d like this. How cold is it at night and how much sleep do you get? Are there wolves or anything that could hurt you there?
Question... how long does the water in your flask stay hot?
Thanks you so much Gary Gough for such a fantastic comment - that really motivates me to keep creating these videos. Looking forward to showing you part 2:)
First night is always a little challenging because of the sounds and because I have to get used to it, but after that I always have good nights - except from when it is storming. I think I sleep about 7-8 hours every night. The water stays warm the entire day. Warm enough for coffee for about 10 hours;)
What a great day...so magical! Ready for the next one!
Morten, this video is simply inspirational for me. The way you peacefully interact with nature and create such incredible shots makes me want to do what you do.
Thanks - from a 17yo who wants to learn!
So nice to hear Ronan - I am looking forward to sharing more adventures with you:)
Just discovered your channel and I love it. Its truely inspirational how you dedicated your life to nature and country, first as a soldier of special forces in Greenland which deserves my greatest respect and now as a magnificent Wildlife Photographer. I am very thankful for sharing your experiences with us. Its not hard to imagine how hard it is to stick to the second camera for vlogging while whitnessing such beautiful animals and landscapes. In October I am trekking through parts of Dovrefjell myself for 2 weeks and your videos increased my anticipation even more although I dont expect to see these beauties. I think, knowing that an encounter with these animals is possible to any time is enough excitement.
Best greetings from Germany!
Wow, I am positive that you will have an amazing time in Doverfjell. The animals and the nature is just amazing. I hope to get back some time during the summer as well, and witness these great beasts on a totally different landscape to the snow covered one in winter. Thank you so much for your comment, it means a lot to me to receive these 😊 have a great time on your trip!
Love the wildlife and also the northern light during the night.
You're the best! Love nature, landscapes, stars, auroras.
Incredible work and commitment to get to this Morten. Amazing images and footage. Thank you for sharing.
I loved every minute of this video. Amazing! ❤
Hey Morten, loving your video's! you clearly have a huge passion and it shows in the excitement and positive attitude. keep up the amazing work.
You have the look in your eye of someone enthralled by nature, wilderness and the birds and animals. I understand that because I too am like that. After a lifetime of climbing mountains and sailing I am in the process of taking my photography into the professional world. You have inspired me with your videos and your approach and I thank you for that. Good luck! The world and nature needs more people like you.
Thanks you so much Duncan McNeill for your awesome comment - it is so motivating for me :) I wish you all the best luck with your photography, and I hope I can continue to inspire you:)
Be the part of nature and the nature gives back fantastic frames...morten ...

I'm not a wildlife photographer by any means but love watching your videos! Thank you for sharing your stories!
WOW! Nice footage and colours when you photographed the Muskoxen
This video right here is the reason why I consider you my inspiration.
I enjoyed this more than any video I can remember. I love being out in nature by myself, listening to the birds and other creatures waking up, but would never consider taking on all the challenges that this trip involved - you have my utmost respect. I especially loved that you enjoyed and respected the Oxen so much. This was the first video I've seen on yours - I can't wait to see more.
Thanks a lot Tara for your lovely comment. it is so motivating. Yes nature is awesome and I love spending time out there. I am on my way back to Norway now, and I am looking forward to sharing this adventure with you.

Morten, this by far one of my favorite videos you've done! I love big animals for the cold north. I feel like those big muskox are left over from the ice age! I hope to get up that way to get pictures of them someday!
Mycket fint, tack Morten!

I am used to rush from one task/activity to the next.. well even on hollidays.
But you are just so relaxed, it feels like you are really in this moment and happy about the small things, like a cup of coffee.
Everybody is talking about mindfulness these days. .. Just look and learn from Morten, that is all i need.
Thank you for your videos!
For me, they are way more then just entertaiment. They are a lesson and a way of life.
