    These are exactly the moments why we go into the forest and why our fingers almost freeze off, we get wet to the skin and yet we love them so much and they drive us again and again. Thank you for your video, a subscription of course, and a happy new year 2023 to you. Best regards from Holstein, Bernd

    Great video! Our version of the red deer in Canada is the elk -- bigger and with not a roar but a high pitched whistling bugle call. Both are gorgeous. I was in the mountains a couple of weeks ago photographing elk (and big horned sheep). The rut was all but over here but the bulls I got (!) too close to didn't make me pay for my proximity, but they did pay more attention to me than they would normally outside of rutting season; also they were alone so no rutting or protection aggression tendencies. Very much looking forward to your next video on the red deer!

    Hi Espen, great vlog as usual, we've been subscribers for couple of years now and always look for your posts.. We were due up to Tomintoul tomorrow 12th October, to stay at BandB, looking forward to some wildlife photography in the Cairngorms... But as we live just on the Welsh side of the Shropshire /Welsh border we are in local lock down and cannot leave Wrexham Borough.... I passed through your home town a couple of weeks back for work, but I can't come for holiday... Although I'd see far less people than I do when working.. Rescheduled for just after Easter and if we were lucky enough to bump into you I'd certainly buy you a pint. Stay safe and focussed.. Thanks Steve & Pam Roberts.

    👍 #680 Hello Espen, I loved watching this video, my friend. I have several Public videos of the Red Deer Rut too and this reminded me of the excitement when you hear the distant roars and you know you are getting closer and they are 'at it' again. I loved the scene of the hind scenting you but being unable to see you in your ghillie suit. You do the same as me and put it on when somewhere near. can you imagine the looks you would get if you wore it from home and driving etc, *lol* How good was that to get so much footage when you were supposed to be just checking things out and for the close encounters, wow! It's almost that time of year again my friend and i look forward to my own encounters and wish you the best of luck with yours too. New Subscriber here. 👍◕‿◕

    @EspenHellend this was an awesome video and experience, though I think part 2 has a possibility of topping it! I have 2 basic gear questions if you would be so inclined to answer. Your sound has been really clean, especially the atmospherics like the red deer bugles, what sound recorder or mic are you using? and simply out of curiosity, not gear snobbery, I noticed on your settings info lately that you have been shooting with the EM1DX, did you happen to switch?
    Again, awesome shots, videos, sounds. Congrats!

    I've come back to watch this video in anticipation of trying to get some photos of the red deer ruts on Exmoor this and next month. I've seen videos of you using both camo suits, camo ponchos, hides, and ghillie suits. I'm torn between camo suit and poncho for Exmoor, but I think I am leaning towards the versatility of a poncho. What's your preference?

    • @EspenHelland
      @EspenHelland  4 роки тому

      Yeah, there are tame deers in Scotland, but that takes a bit of the fun out of it I think. These deer are wild and are also gone if they catch wind of you, like happened on the day.
