Honestly that dad wasn't a good parent, neglectful, cruel and chose his "new" family over his actual daughter. Cringe.
Were I in OP's place, I would legally change my last name to the bio-mom's, to publicly show I didn't want to be associated with this so-called "family", be it the step-sister, or the dad. But yeah, I mean, going as low as to purposefully speak hurtful words to your daughter despite knowing all the effects it had on her in the past ?! Then wouldve said in my most sarcastic voice while waving my hands exaggeratedly, "oh please dont sue for full custody to protect your kids from their neglectful wife who is incapable of caring for her kids"

I’m just saying…if OPs sister got custody TAKEN AWAY from her, then there had to have been so much more neglect than is mentioned in the post. It is not easy for that to happen let alone a mother losing it to a father (no offense -not saying I agree with the legal system on that one but more often than not it’s true)

It's legal in most places to leave 10 year olds home alone for several daylight hours (just not overnight) so the sister didn't need a babysitter, and no court is going to take custody away from a parent over a change to their work schedule. They would simply make the parents make a new schedule. It might not be a 50/50 physical split, but would still contain equal legal, medical, and educational authority for the parents.
My ex and I have a 70/30 schedule currently because of our work schedules. He still has just as much custody as I do.
More than likely, it's a work of fiction.

Should have asked ex-dad why he was so eager to get those kids back to a woman who apparently can't stand keeping them. Sounds like she throws them at other people every chance she gets. They deserve a stable home, and with stepsister, they just aren't getting that.
This is the exact reason I decided not to tell people I work from home and it was a great decision. Yes I do have the power to run an errand or two for myself on my lunch break, but it also means I can remain in work mode for as long as necessary.
