I don't see what age has to do with preferring the HTC. I think it's just better looking and way more convenient to drive topless whether 18 or 80. Plus the ability to open the rear window when the top is up is really nice for ventilation and sound. I do miss seeing the engine, but I think that's the only significant negative.

I agree the car is a bargain at MSRP. That doesn’t mean it’s without its faults, I agree the taillights are odd. As for driving a lowered vehicle, this is different. Even taking entrances at angles and such those airdams rub. It’s strange. I’ve had static cars for years without issues, this one, there’s not a driving style that can avoid the air dams from rubbing.

If you go on the Corvette forums you will see many, if not all, of these issues addressed. The thing is, gm has not done much to improve any of it so many have just given up and live with it. The brake dust is awful. The only way I have seen to help it is to change out the brake pads. I installed radiator guards on mine from Paragon Performance. They also have guards for the side intakes. As far as a coupe or a HTC, I guess it all depends on your preference. For example, I do not care about seeing the engine and I do like being able to put the top up or down at a moment's notice, especially if it starts raining. Here in Florida, it can start raining before you know it. I have been caught a couple of times at night with the top down and all of a sudden it started raining hard. Being able to do this at a red light or just slowing down is very nice. I also go on a lot of short trips and I do not want to lose the trunk space with the top down. Also, you can turbocharge the HTC, you just cannot supercharge it. so you can do some tuning to it. I have a carbon fiber spitter on the front of mine and I got the front-end lift just because of this. so far no issues. The back trunk is for sure an issue with heat. I just put my groceries in the front. I have looked at the heat shield but has not been a priority for me yet. Yea, the phone charger sucks. The location has been brought up many times. I will have to replace the ppf at some point, but I would rather do that than have to paint it. I have the same interior as you do. the only difference with mine is the blacked-out top and twin black stripes down the middle. Great color. Anyway, it is a great car. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Cheers.
Hey Maverick. Your comment on the HTC gave me pause. One thing you may not be aware of is the HTC allows for 2 more inches of headroom compared to a coupe. For those of us tall guys, this is the only option. I tried to fit in a coupe and it just would not work. I’m thankful for the extra 2 inches of headroom, otherwise, the C8 would not have been an option and like you, I love this car!
More importantly, when you stow the roof panel in the trunk, you lose all that space. It is a real issue on trips, when you have luggage. With the HTC, you lose ZERO space with the top down! The rear window that rolls down is also a huge advantage. With the release of the clear engine covers, I don't know why anyone would choose a coupe over a convertible??
I have an htc but more ppl do in fact choose the coupe. They have sold more coupes than htc's every year so far. The coupe has more advantages. It's faster, see the engine from the factory, less stuff to break, almost 10k cheaper. I do like rolling down my back window & I like the no loss of space w/ the roof down BUT even if u buy a clear engine cover it's not as open of a view of the engine. The engine itself also needs a dressed up as they don't put any eye candy on it. Plus, u still have to engage the drop top & stop mid-way to see the engine after the mods. Its not the same in any way. If ur goin on vaca & packing, simple keep the target top on until ur bags are in the hotel. I like my htc but I can 100% see why many prefer the coupe
2-3 inches if you push the seat back, but the targa is actually taller if you sit under it. You'll see it plenty for us really tall guys (6'3"+) where we can fit in a coupe, but not HTC unless the person is very leggy. I'm pretty evenly distributed and I literally cannot fit in the HTC without it touching my head unless I recline the seat so I'm halfway lying down. If I sit under the targa on a coupe, I can fit with 1-2" to spare (touch more if transparent roof) but I can't put the seat back too far. Either way, HTC > Coupe all day if you can actually fit in one lol
The thing you’re missing on HTC VS. Coupe is that you lose the entire rear trunk on the coupe when the targa top is stored there. Getting to look at your engine vs. going on a weekend trip top down with some luggage is big deal. Lastly, I can modify my HTC to show off the engine with a clear cover. Problem solved, but you still can’t get to your Tostitos without lifting the targa out of the way, and you can’t put anything on top of the targa without scratching it or having a slip cover to protect it from junk you now have to lift out of the way.

After waiting a coupe of years for pricing to come back down to earth, I purchased a low millage 2021 C8 HTC. Ownership lasted just over 6 months, way to many "little" issues to deal with plus the ownership / driving experience was flat and boring when compared to driving my 2nd Vette, a 2010 C6 Grand Sport with M6 transmission. When both cars are parked together in the garage I fully understood why many multiple vette owners say the C6 GS is still the best looking Corvette to date.
I need some help..... My family died and I am very sad..... That being said I should get a significant family inheritance and I'm thinking about buying a Corvette...... But I'm here in nightmares about the transmissions.... And everybody says that the hellcats are trash but at least the transmissions are solid... GM dropped the ball on the C8 in my opinion. I have really honestly tried to like the C8, but I just cannot get past the styling and the overall production flaws. As for me, I'll take the C7 and leave the C8 on the showroom floor.
@@GhostSpeedShop I hear you, but I've never experienced the overheating issue and I've never left stock wheels on any new car. Actually, I change the wheels before I ever take it home (seriously).
I have a c8 couoe, you can buy covers for it that keeps water out. Simple solution I use is to stuff a couple micro fiber towels in open vent., lay two towels across vents and wash from top down with water flow, this greatly minimizes water intrusion inside and is free. If motor is cold I lay three bath sheets across engine and it cat he's the little bit of water that does get through.
My 2022 rarely bottoms out, that said, I'm glad I have front end lift. I have a coupe but if I knew how much I would enjoy having the top off, I would have bought the HTC. While I like the looks of the coupe, my fiancee had the HTC and having the top off option while fully packed for a 2 week road trip is awesome. Yes, I an see my engine but who cares. The heat in the trunk is an issue, I did the heat shield fix and it definitely helps. On the other hand, other mid-engine cars only have a frunk. All 2 and 3 LTs regardless of year have a wireless charger. I don't have chipping paint but my bumper is mis-aligned, it is something that should be addressed. I tend to agree on the wheel options, I have black Tridents. I like your wheels, they look great. The window washers are annoying, I (and the interior) have gotten soaked a few times.
This is the first for me, I’ve owned 50+ vehicles. But yeah, seems like an easy solution. GM could put a 2mm guard on the window trim to prevent this as well.
Is your car lowered? (It looks very low) I have driven a couple of c8's and have no issues with speed bumps or driveways. Some people have measured their front splitter clearance and they have 5inches...with 4 inches at the under carriage near the splitter.
The car is lowered one inch, that’s it. I’m running taller tires to combat this now. One of the biggest issues is the roads in Hawaii, but if those air dams were 1/2 inch higher this wouldn’t be an issue with or without being lowered.
@@GhostSpeedShop Even though it seems small, that one inch can really multiply and affect your approach angle severity for driveways since c8's are made to ride lower anyways to begin with. Any larger splitters or other mods will add more crippling effects to the vehicle. I have a stock height vehicle with a longer nose overhang and I really have to watch driveways (but speedbumps have no issues at all). I believe the regulated minimum clearance for vehicle height is 4 inches, and you may be potentially below that. Most roadway infrastructure facilities are designed based on regulated height requirements. Be careful and take care since most everything on the roadways won't be designed to accommodate your vehicle.
I ordered mine with the HTC (July 2024 delivery hopefully ) specifically because you can’t see the motor, too many idiots out there that think they have to see the motor and lean up against the side of your car was there cowboy belt buckles and don’t care if they scratch the surface as they walk off to the next car it just wasn’t worth the risk for me. And I’m probably saving many thousands of dollars by not chasing the cosmetic goodies that you can put into the engine compartment, although those plastic Covers on the HTC’s does open up a new world of customizing, but they won’t be scratching at the side of y My car trying to see it unless I’m there to open it up 👀 when I was building my Corvette I didn’t see The distraction package you that yours has 👀 😢

Hey…Princess and the Pea…seriously? You should have done your homework BEFORE buying the car!!! It’s a sports car…it’s supposed to be low. Why are you driving around with your pucks attached, that makes no sense? As for the trunk being hot…it’s a rear engine car! As for the convertible not allowing you to see the engine, that’s an engineering safety feature…it has to be that way. I have a 2022 C8 HTC LT3 Z51…and I absolutely love it. I do agree with one point…the phone charger position is not the best. However…I’ll suck it up…I own a new vette!!! Seriously bro…either enjoy the car or buy a different vehicle. Complaining about one of the most iconic sports cars to be made (mostly) in America…and making a video about it….just enjoy and drive. Peace
Yeah I feel bad for this video blowing up the way it did. I truly love the car, the positives far outweigh the negatives, I’ll have another video coming out soon talking about what a bargain this car is. The pucks stay in to protect the side skirts, as the roads are terrible here in Hawaii. They only hang down about 2mm lower than the sides and have saved them a couple of times. This was actually recommended to me by someone else a while back and I’m glad I left them in. The trunk being hot is an engineering issue, GM only put thermal material on the bottom side and not the inside of the trunk hatch. I’ve fixed that on my car and noticed a difference. (I have a video on this coming out next week), but yeah take this all with a grain of salt as I love the c8, I just have some minor gripes.
Hawaii…we have a company on Kauai. We were there a few weeks ago. What island are you on? Sorry if I was a little harsh with my comments…I just feel so privileged to own this car. All the best my friend!
I’m on Oahu, I travel around to all of the islands for my business. I feel the same, very privileged. I saved for a couple of years for this car, all my usaf pay but obviously have my complaints. I’ll do it justice in my next big c8 video.
I still love the car, the positives with this platform far outweigh the small issues. I felt bad releasing this video, as I didn’t want shade thrown at the c8. I have some more positive videos on it coming out soon.
Here's a shocker.....KEEP THE WINDOWS CLOSED WHEN YOU SPRAY THE WINDSHIELD!!! Many many cars, including my Mercedes ML, have fluid pour into an open side window when spraying. How many cars have you owned?? Older cars (classics really) didn't have this happen because any water or fluids would just get trapped in the windshield mouldings and slowly rot the frame😢
Read the other comments. I’ve owned many cars without this issue, but a vehicle where it’s common to have the windows down, probably should have a piece of trim on the edge of the window that catches the washer fluid.
@@GhostSpeedShop Well, the name of the game today seems to be SMOOOOTH. EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE SMOOOTH, or flush as the say. The C8 is a copy of the last Acura NSX. The C7 is just as bad; a batmobile looking design. GM copied a lot of things: mid engine design, double clutch transmission (a Porsche design and development from the mid 80s in their race cars).
@@achristian7015 it’s hard to say one manufacturer has copied any other when technology changed and is adopted overtime for the consumer market. There’s a lot of vehicles with DCTs in them nowadays and almost every major manufacturer has a mid engine platform. This is just chevys offering. They did it their way by staying with a NA V8. The first mid engine car was the 1962 René Bonnet Djet, are you saying that all mid engine cars are just a knock off of it? Because with that logic, I guess no manufacturer should progress overtime and create new platforms.
@@GhostSpeedShop The DCT or PDK as Porsche calls it was first designed on paper back in the 30s in France. Porsche then used it first in the 956 in the 80s. And Porsche also had a 356 mid-engine, their first prototype, but it was too expensive and was later changed to a rear engined 356 as we know it. But long before then they also had mid engines that F1 later adopted. Source: the books tht I have. @@GhostSpeedShop I hear you, but I've never experienced the overheating issue and I've never left stock wheels on any new car. Actually, I change the wheels before I ever take it home (seriously).
Best option would be to avoid all GM products.
Hey thanks for that info, I’ve gotten used to just cleaning the engine bay. Mid engine car life. No big deal.
The fact that GM has not addressed this paint damage problem around the headlights yet says it all. What a joke.
Agreed, hopefully it doesn’t become an issue on the 2024 models
Hey thanks for watching the video, I plan on making another one soon highlighting the things I really like about the car!
Surprised someone hasn't come up with a engine cover shield when washing car
They exist, they are just obnoxiously expensive
@@GhostSpeedShop I would think a 3D carbon fiber one would be smart money wise and more doable
@@claytonevans5721 yes and no, keeping it in place without it looking tacky as a separate piece would be difficult.
Just keep your windows up when you use the spray. Every car I’ve owned has done the same thing.
This is the first for me, I’ve owned 50+ vehicles. But yeah, seems like an easy solution. GM could put a 2mm guard on the window trim to prevent this as well.
Spare tire front ?
No spare
You can order a small bottle of torch red paint from GM. You won’t even notice it
Thank you for pointing these out
of course
Is your car lowered? (It looks very low)
I have driven a couple of c8's and have no issues with speed bumps or driveways.
@@py2237 the taller tires more than helped even with my new lip. It’s all good now!

@@GhostSpeedShop What does 'goddy' mean ... ? Gaudy ...? {this new English is killing me)
I ordered mine with the HTC (July 2024 delivery hopefully ) specifically because you can’t see the motor, too many idiots out there that think they have to see the motor and lean up against the side of your car was there cowboy belt buckles and don’t care if they scratch the surface as they walk off to the next car it just wasn’t worth the risk for me. And I’m probably saving many thousands of dollars by not chasing the cosmetic goodies that you can put into the engine compartment, although those plastic Covers on the HTC’s does open up a new world of customizing, but they won’t be scratching at the side of y

Love my C7 MANUAL. I’m keeping it.
Nice. I’ve driven both and prefer the C8 by a mile.
Look it is a GM, so attention to details is the norm.
The only thing I can give you is the paint problem. The rest of the car is not a big deal. Remember, before the C8 you were not able to see the engine at all.
None of it is a big deal, they are just the things I hate about it. Do you have the paint issue? The washer fluid issue doesn’t bother you?
@@GhostSpeedShop No, I did not have the paint issue. I have a 2021 HTC red mist with 36K miles and it looks the same. Windshield doesn’t bother me. I live in Chicago and only can drive in non winter conditions
@@williedavismckennie5334 oh man, I feel for you, in Hawaii we can drive all year. Have you driven it in the snow at all?
Red mist was my second color choice.
@@GhostSpeedShop Not in the snow, but I have been in the rain a few times.
@@williedavismckennie5334 Ah darn, I have been looking for some feedback on if you get stuck in the snow, how the driving characteristics are. I know most RWD cars are useless in the snow.

I waited two years for this car, trust me I don’t hate it, I just have some complaints.

I just don’t care for them, I understand and appreciate their convenience, just not my thing.
Try rolling your window up when you use the wipers to clean the front window.

It looks like your C8 is lowered.
It is now, but wasn’t at the time. The wheel offset closes the fender gap with those wheels, that’s why it looked so nice.
USAF…thank you for your service. All the best my friend!
legitimate problems , you’re not the only one to complain about these things
You should sell your car since you have so many issues with it.
I'm sure somebody will make visors that snap on or use double-sided tape to attach somewhere to help this problem. I've used those visors on a few cars and they work good and they even look good on some vehicles.
I guess I will keep my Silverado RST. I love everything about my black Silverado RST, crew cab. You will hear no complains from me. 😂
The c8 is still worth buying, comparing it to a Silverado is a wild comparison though.

The thing I really hate about the C8 is the styling. It's the ugliest Corvette ever made!!!
I strongly disagree!
But to add to it, Chrysler thought they invented the mini-van...ecuse me VW did it long before Chrysler. And the C8 looks so much like the NSX...have a look.
I don’t own a Corvette, thank God. Gm is putting out prototypes. I feel sorry for you guys.
A Class Action Lawsuit is needed!!!…

I don’t think anything I mention in this video is drastic enough to sue over. Nothing affects the safety imo.
Also, the car is an awesome platform even with its small issues.
The C8 is amazing and hardly a "prototype" - no issue at all with mine at 10,000 miles...

I mean it used a Ferrari as a benchmark. At least the C8 is obtainable for the average person.
