That is bondo glaze for shallow imperfection like scratches or craters, wood filler wouldn’t stick to those I use Bin Primer Shellac. Umm for these doors i think i primed three times, filling imperfection and sanding in between coats. I prime as many times as i feel is needed for imperfection to be less noticeable. Sanding filling and priming multiple times will make the surface flat enough for painting. Hope that helps 😊
@@pineappleinteriorsfl YES...the trim mouldings running along the top that you AFTER pictures showed as pale grey to match walls above. My trims/cowns are therma covered too but in excellent order. Hope you see this?
Hi! If they are in good condition. I suggest not to remove the thermofoil of these as they are usually in bad condition underneath. You can clean, sand and bond prime those and paint in place like they are. Same with all structure and moldings Like light rail molding. I only remove the thermo from doors and big panels like if they have panels on islands that are same as doors..etc Hope that helps.
Yes actually all thermofoil Doors are mdf. Haven’t seen the first one that is wood or any other material. Lots of kitchen doors are actually mdf. As long as they are sealed, primed and painted properly they are just fine.
Hello! We use an Industrial Coating for paint that can only be sprayed but for DIY, Cabinet Coat Satin from BM is a great option. For primer, we use BIN shellac. Also we are using Goof Off Pro Strength remover to remove the glue. Much more effective than denatured alcohol. But very strong, you need lots of ventilation and a good mask. It is a lot of work to remove the glue some painters just prime right over the glue. It isn’t an easy DIY. 😊
@@ajaxmuchacha3758Yes Frames, toe kicks are usually veneer. You clean, sand and prime those. Don’t remove veneer because surface is rough underneath. If veneer is peeling just glue back
Hello! Yes you can. Most thermofoil cabinets that we refinish, the thermofoil is peeling bad so better to remove it but if thermofoil is in good condition, you can paint over it. Painting the underneath will make the finish look more natural not so plastic and definitely more durable. Also in time all thermofoil cabinets will start peeling so if you remove it, you won’t have to worry about that anymore. But definitely less work not to remove.
Your chop looks great! wish you more subscribers you deserve it.
The before cabinets look like really cheap cabinets and the after are fantastic, nicely done.
How to you refinish the trim? Did you take out the whole cabinet and remove the thermafoil too
I have thermofoil cabinets. Only the doors have the thermofoil on them.
@@zacharyhayes96 Some kitchens have thermofoil veneers on the cabinet frames, as well.
@@ggrimm79 thermofoil and veneer are different things, thermofoil used on kitchen doors veneer is inside cupboard!
Lovely work
That’s one healthy cabinet lady.
Have you tried using xim primer and let it off gas for 24 hours, it’s a high build primer
That red sticky thing you've applied to the door whtat was that? What kind of primer did you use and how many times you applied the primer?

What cleaner did you use?
How did you do the trim? I have the trim all over the top of the cabinets. Did you remove the trim, the foil and then paint?
Do you mean the crown molding?

Great tutorial. Thank you.
This is great! Thank you for sharing
Woah thanks for sharing this. I literally have this same cabinet and was thinking of what to do with them. What kind of paint and primer do you use?
