question : I removed the melamine from the cabinet door and used Primre and BEHER paint for kitchen cabinet, it's been now 10 day and i can scratch it very easily, do I need to apply coating?
THanks for the video! I do not have your spraying equipment and do not trust myself to spray anything. Could I get away with rolling the primer and paint on?
I've watched a number of your videos, tried to figure out what I liked about them and just today it dawned on me. First, You don't waste the viewers time with unnecessary talking. You are direct and to the point. Second is your editing style. I like the way you cut. Well done! But that brings me to a question: I have a client asking to have their large melamine walk-in closet painted. I told her I wouldn't do it due to durability concerns but your video has me second guessing. What are your thoughts on that? Painting melamine cabs for a flip is one thing but a closet? I would use Renner 2k products.
Helpful tips, but I didn't find the before and after photos even when I clicked the link. If the condo was listed for sale, there should be photos you can add to the end of the video.
It’s easy 🙃☺️ if you don’t wash - the oil and grease will stay . Sanding doesn’t help with removing oils - if you sand then wash - all the oils and fat will get pushed and spread all over the place with the abrasives. So the sequence is pretty straightforward - clean(degrease) then sand - blow off dust - spray ✅👍👌☺️
I’ve used it and I have several of them collecting dust 😊 for the production shop - speed is everything. That’s why most of our flat stuff we hose down with airless
Great video, thanks. Gives me hope for the beat up cabinets in my kitchen. Lost my job right before moving in so a full renovation will have to wait. A couple of questions. @5:05 You mentioned that you applied a protective film when talking about the cabinet doors. Can you share the details of what exactly this is? Do you consider this a necessary step, and do you apply the same protective film inside the cabinets as well? Thanks!
Yes. It isolates the unknown crap we might have in the exciting finish. It’s one of the following: vinyl sealer, 2 component polyurethane isolator. (All solvent based) there’s an option in water based formulation. - check out Eric Reason Video on Cic true 2k primer.
Also using hvlp titan 115 but it doesn’t work well with 2k. I have to reduce it abound 15% to have nice finish especially when adding hardener. I heard airless work great with 2k poly
Hi.. great video. One comment, actually a concern if I may. You mentioned using 80 grit abrasive to sand the melamine. Did you really use 80 grit? I mean an 80 grit abrasive, regardless of the brand, is very very rough, with deep scratch pattern that a vinyl sealer, again regardless of the brand, wouldn’t level the substrate. In my opinion, a 150/180 grit would just do the job levelling the melamine, create a very acceptable scratch pattern that’ll be easily levelled with low-solid vinyl sealer. Please share and once again thx for posting such an educational video
Hey Ron, thanks for the comment, 80 greed is good for getting that teeth into the melamine itself, 150 or 180 doesn’t really get much into the melamine, because that melamine is really really tough, 120 is good too if you’re a little worried about the scratches, 100 is good as well but I found at 80 works the best, not worth going lower but I can definitely get really good at using with the 80 grit, please don’t get me wrong I’m not using anything like that after I put my vinyl sealer on, the vinyl sealer should only be scuffed send it with 280 or 320
So you're not pealing off the melamine film, rather you leave it and sand the film? Definitely easier but it seems like most others are pealing off the thin melamine film and working with the MDF material underneath which is very clean a more durable surface, ensuring a better lasting bond. Your way suggests that we sand and work with a surface covered in a plastic film. I wonder if you're working with something different.
flat surface of melamine - rarely peels - the bond is insana.. edges however is a subject for a careful inspection - when i see it's starting to peel - i peel it off and clean sand fill with putty. but in a situation when you have a little budget - it's way better to get new mdf doors . That's my prospective on it =)
I'd love to =)) I've been to Miami it's a very nice place .. If you could provide the accommodations for me and 2 of my helpers or compensate the cost - we'll be on the way tomorrow =))))
if it's the edgeband - we either glue it back on, or tear it off and sand fill with wood filler sand, prime paint, or if it's everywhere on the cabinets (panes, doors etc) - replace cabinets
What ! I watched your whole video and no before or after pictures? Hello, I wanted to see the start and the finish. That almost breaks watching more of your videos. You are informative and I like you. Your not annoying. Thank you for the information. But come on. Please put before and after pictures in the video. That's like having a story without the beginning and no ending. Arghhh!
I know I’m very sorry about not putting up the final pictures, the condo was sold before I took a new final pictures that’s how much value the refinishing added :-) Please check our Instagram portfolio there’s a ton of before and after pics INSTAGRAMM instagram.com/konstantin_udalov_ca/
Hi Nina 😊🤝 thank you for your comment and I’m very sorry about not putting any final pictures, we didn’t really have a chance to take any final pictures because the scandal was up on sale in a few days after we finished it, and also my main focus was to show the entire process with all the tricks tips and materials, however if you’d like to see the before and after we have a lot of them on our Instagram: INSTAGRAMM instagram.com/konstantin_udalov_ca/ Much love 😊🤝❤️
I had to watch this in silence with the subtitles turned on because my HDMI splitter broke and I couldn't get audio. And whaddya know, my brain supplied you with a generic Yorkshire accent just on the basis of what you look like. I tried switching your imaginary voice to an american accent and it just would not stick. I wonder what you really sound like.
What an amazing video! Super informative and so well done!
That’s a lot Ryan . 😊🙌 appreciate your support brother 🤝🤝🤝🤝😊

Hello my friend . I’m sorry to hear about this… unfortunately the Behr paint you used isn’t good for cabinets
Hi I like videos and I learn alot thank you questions where can I find the rack stands if u have a link for it please share it with me
Wal Mart clothes racks are good . 75.00 dollars.
THanks for the video! I do not have your spraying equipment and do not trust myself to spray anything. Could I get away with rolling the primer and paint on?
You definitely can. But the feel and look wont be the same. Sorry but that’s just the truth 😊🙌
Very interesting and informative video. I think it will be interesting for many who watch your podcast. I really relish watching it👍👍👍
Thank you 🙏😊🤝🤝
Excelente video, informativo, preciso y agradable. Gracias!
Is the protective film needed? I was just gonna sand and spray?
the more the better

Appreciate the kind words Jay! 😊🙌
I’d say go for it is the price is goo and it brings value to the client it’s a win win
Would have been nice to see how the final finish looked..
Here are all of them 😊✅. Https://instagram.com/konstantin_udalov_ca/guide/kitchen-refinishing-prtfolio/17947137829414927/?igshid=16bza3xkcvduo
You make it look so easy.. now I’m off to inevitably create my own “fail” version of this!
Say if 1 cabinet was peeling would you strip all the cabinets back to bare wood?
Peeling - is it white plasticky thermofoil ? Than I’d probably find a company that does thermofoil in your area and get that door re done
Where do you buy the two part paint you use. Thanks awesome vid
Hi Jose, you can siply google one of these: Sirca, Cic, Gemini, Renner local supplier and see who has it in your area
Hi Konstantin, which polyurethane product did you use? You mentioned it was from italy.
We use 2 component water based polyurethane. We use a lot of different brands, Sirca, Renner, envirolak, Evo, Cic, ICA, and a few other ones
I recently put new fittings but my wife doesnt like the colour. How do i put a new colour
That’s what I talk about in the video 😊☝️
Helpful tips, but I didn't find the before and after photos even when I clicked the link. If the condo was listed for sale, there should be photos you can add to the end of the video.
Hello! Great video - Did you also sand down the cabinets on the wall in the same way you did the cabinet doors?
Hi Alexandra . We sure did 😊👌✅
Do you all ever do any repairs to warped melamine?
Hi Courtney. It’s usually easier to replace it from the financial standpoint
Why wash down then sand after? Doesn’t make sense to me..can someone explain please?

@@KonstantinUdalov oh .. ok, thank you so much in explaining it to me. Most appreciated
Have to ask, have you thought about using a turbine system t all. Great vids by the way.

Great video!
Thanks brother 😊🤝 good to hear from you 🤙😊
Hi,
I know you are using Milesi 2k poly white base. Did you ever used Renner 2k poly white base. If yes what’s are the difference.
Hey bud 👋😊 no I don’t use Renner. Sorry bro wouldn’t be able to tell the difference
Ok thanks
I’m currently using ILVA 2k poly it’s the same as Milesi same company
I heard good thinks about Renner
Also using hvlp titan 115 but it doesn’t work well with 2k. I have to reduce it abound 15% to have nice finish especially when adding hardener. I heard airless work great with 2k poly

You didn't tell us what type of paint you use for the top coat, unless you were suing the same stuff for both priming and painting.
I used waterborn polyurethane. 1 component on site and with hardener (2k poly) in the shop on the doors

very wise using 2 components polyurethane paint, will last even more!

How do you handle cabinets where the melamine is peeling off?
if it's the edgeband - we either glue it back on, or tear it off and sand fill with wood filler sand, prime paint, or if it's everywhere on the cabinets (panes, doors etc) - replace cabinets
Lot of talking with little showing. Not very helpful

Just take a hair dryer and peel off the melamine. This is rediculous!
