Finally, a series that ISN'T a damn prequel. For the longest time, I think Trek fans have wanted to go _forward,_ rather than _back._
Yeah.. Considering the closest we've really ever gotten with going forward is Star Trek Online... a MMO... I mean I love the game, don't get me wrong. But there's something about just watching Star Trek that can be better than playing Star Trek.
Don't you know? They're going to be using Q to go back in time to establish the star fleet academy and its first missions.
Yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!
agreed.
FORWARD!
True especially since they KEEP fucking up the history. Nonsensically.
Man Patrick Stewart coming back itself is a call for excitement.
dude im having an apoplectic seizure
Ragu? Like the spaghetti sauce? LOL
Lesesne grow up.
fdsafdsafdsa I tried. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Jerxes, I just have a much higher standard for humor.
I'm not calling you a jerk, but I changed the first letter of your name into J because LOLfunny. Except in this case it's actually funnier than Mike dropping the h from Raghu, which is probably the lead commenter's actual name, and making an awkward leap to a lame joke about pasta sauce, in a thread about Sir Patrick Stewart coming back to save all of Western Civilization.
Since it was not very funny, and wholly off-topic which made it even less funny, I called him out on it.
Take a lesson!
Please don't suck. Please don't suck. Please don't suck. Patrick Stewart agreeing to be in it gives me hope, but I'm still terrified. Please, Jean-Luc, make it a return you don't regret.
John Nappa exactly how I feel
CBS can ruin anything.
I hope they bring back Q
Please don't suck. Please don't suck... I hope that they don't ruin this new reboot.
Please don't let JarJar be involved...
I've been waiting for a non-prequel. The fact that it's a new show taking place after the shows we've seen is enough to make me jump for joy.
But new series with Picard? Oh hell yes.
Every studio needs someone paid to run around with a birch stick, to whack out of the room anyone who utters the word "prequel".
It is true....the second coming is upon us! Captain Picard returns! :D am so happy! :D
Being set 20 years after Nemesis, it's highly unlikely he'll still be a Captain. He'll either be an Admiral, or retired, or doing some other pursuit entirely unrelated. The character does love archaeology for example. Riker may still be a Captain though, as might many of the other characters from TNG, VOY and DS9 so the potential for cameos is huge.
Rolfathan me too and tng can guest star in new series and maybe a new enterprise with warp 12 and a cloaking technology.
Jean-Luc Picard is Back!!! 😇
Checkmate, CBS All Access; you win. I don't watch much TV, but no way am I missing this. Sign me up.
NOT PAYING CBS FOR THE PRIVILEGE.
sigh...yeah same...might as well give Discovery a viewing as well. Yup they win.
I love sir Patrick, and hope he and Sir Ian have hatched a surprise for this new series; however, the money I would spend on this (and Discovery), I put into an account, so that my children will be able attend college. Sorry, but making a show such as this available only to the elite (those with the spare cash to watch a PPV series) is against the principles of what the original series taught us.
Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard was my childhood hero. So excited that he'll be returning.
Dantrick Do you like his portrayal as Professor X in X-Men movies?
Sir Patrick helped me through my childhood at some very dark times. His acting and standing as my first captain left a long mark on my life in terms of my imagination. I’m absolutely thrilled to see him return my life is full of fun and imaginative thoughts again!
Yeah Picard was sort of my first captain too. I grew up catching glimpses of my parents watching TNG or watching an episode or two with them when I was bored. At some point I became aware of "other star treks" but some of my first memories of trek are of Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, and my parents telling me how my older brother would shoot his hand forward and yell "Fin!" every time the Enterprise went into warp at the end of the opening.
That is so awesome! his series came out for me when I was only an infant however as I got older I became more aware - I guess it stuck with me. I had literally all the toys: phasers, communicators, the enterprise D toy bridge, runabout, you name it odds are I had it. I remember going to the cinema to see Insurrection and I was just blown away. I was scared by the Borg and almost the Klingons. it really takes me back. I had my doubts when they brought Star Trek back to only a paid subscription service but honestly after seeing it and rewatching it I casted my doubts. I think now that they brought Picard back we could possibly see some continuance of the more traditional Trek that some are used to.
I started watching this show with a friend of mine around the time I found out my mom had cancer. This show got me through a VERY tough year. Luckily, my mother survived and is doing very well, and I have finished the show and all 4 movies. This show was an experience.
trha2222
🤔
Well Star Trek has done episodes about transgender and drug addiction, has had captains who are black and female, and certainly has done the cross-dressing, if that helps!
Wife and I raised two kids around watching TNG each week and discussing the shows for learning lifes lessons.
Am overjoyed Sir Patrick is back...something GREAT to look forward to!
Until they totally fuck it up and destroy the character of Picard.
satchmodan Honestly, I don't think that expresses too much faith in Sir Patrick to be true to the character he created as he has a large stake in the reintroduction of Captain Picard. Give it a chance and don't prejudge this wonderful idea.
No words can show how happy I am right now
How about "Engage!"?
Number One
The man doesn't age.
Anarchist86ed More like he ages well. Very well.
That's because he shaves off all the grey hair.
Patrick Stewart, forever and forever. I can die a happy man knowing Patrick will star in another Star Trek series.
I wouldn't be here, either - ST:TNG premiered at a very dark time in my life, and watching it (well, watching the original series for TNG's first year - let's be real) gave me something to live for. I am so, so pleased about this.
He looks in pretty good shape
Captain Jean Luc Picard.
We've missed you.
Another rare gem of a celebrity. Such a humble and genuinely kind person.
So unbelievable excited! I can not wait to hear more and be a devoted fan of this up coming show. I am one of those people who's life has been positively effected by Sir Patrick Stewart's work and by Star Trek. 5 years ago I was paralyzed after a tumultuous illness, it was devastating. Reality in large doses was excruciatingly painful, Star Trek became my alternate world- a refuge. The characters became my friends, the storylines a reason to feel interested in the world. Thank you for returning Sir Patrick and thank you to CBS for backing the creation of more of the Trek universe!
The Next Generation continues.
“The Human Adventure Is Just Beginning.” - Gene Roddenberry
Human adventure? That's racist! {{:-)
Rotating in his grave ...
omg im crying!!! The captain is back!!!!
What a legend! Thank Q we get more of Sir Stewart’s legacy.
TEA. EARL GREY. HOT.
"The replicator has not been programmed with that beverage".
Make it so.
Now itll be tea earl grey..lukewarm
Are you sure this is Earl Grey? I'd swear it was Darjeeling.
It will taste almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea.
YES!!!!! I literally screamed!
My childhood hero is RETURNING! I never thought in a million years this would ever happen as i thought Star Trek Nemesis was Picard's last appearance! I'm in happy tears.
I met him 6 years ago at a convention. I only got to talk to him for about 20 seconds. But I sure would love to sit down and really talk to him for even just a short time. What an interesting person. Not just Star Trek. Just his life over all.
I’m gonna cry right now 🤧
United_World's Finest I actually felt like it, too!😢
Right?!
He brought gravitas to sc-fi
This is the best news any Trek fan could get. In times like these what could be better than to have a man who is the essence of nobility and character back on screen.
Hell Yes! Thank You, CBS, and everyone that has made this possible, Shatner, Stewart and Bacula are my all-time heroes!
He's 78 years old!
And looks better than you ever could.
HA
vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/epicrapbattlesofhistory/images/5/55/I_See_What_You_Did_There.png/revision/latest?cb=20140610225008
Which is awesome!
And?
Plenty of 78 year old actors working out there? no.
Will he be ambassador Picard?
Will there be the Enterprise-F?
Or is Data captain of the Enterprise-E?
I HAVE QUESTIONS
ME TOO!
Datas memories were transferred into B4 before he was destroyed and data kinda took over B4s body.
I like Pichard as Q Referred, But I hope Kirk come from the past and just kicks his butt and polishes his head with Mr. Clean.
ZaffiroAMVs I fantasize that it starts out with him being Ambassador but then gets trapped on a ship that goes into some weird quadrant they've been into like beyond the gamma quadrant. Q could be involved in some way. Now beyond hope to return to star fleet Picard has to captain. Doubt this will happen, but I can dream. Still awesome to see that role come back either way.
What happened to spot the cat? Meow!!
Congratulations Patrick Stewart for coming back you gave us 7 years of TNG fantastic hope to see 7 years or more again
I cannot wait! He himself, not just Jean-Luc, represents so much of what I grew to believe was good and decent in humanity.
Whooo! Love Patrick Stewart!
That's amazing news can't wait to see it
That man is a amazing actor and Legend.
I like how he walked through the doors with that same Picard gape, something I haven't seen him do in a long time. He carried himself like Picard in those few moments. I'm encouraged.
Now let's hope we get some good writers...
Smug American even if the writing is bad Stewart will make it a masterpiece.
They did, it seems. They got Kirsten Beyer (Star Trek Novels, Buffy), Michael Chabon (John Carter) and James Duff (The Closer, Major Crimes) so far.
MAN were you wrong! Sadly.
About Time! I hope it's in the Prime Universe this time and CBS doesn't screw it up again.
you and *most* other Star Trek fans
LOL
This is Alex Kuntzman version of star trek, of course he will mess it up.
trha2222 maybe your right. So then Donald Trump wouldn't be an asshole in that universe? Because he seems like an asshole in this one.
Trha2222 Trumpflake of the year.
0:33 That crowd became UNGLUED. What an ovation!
Imagine seeing Jean Luc Picard walk on stage, the excitement and hope for what was coming and then seeing what Kurtzman served up
Ikr. STD is the worst but PIC is the most disappointing.
I literally dropped a tear, I’m so happy!!! 😫
Anyone else notice that the keyboard says “Kronos?”
Wow he seems like a stand up guy who loves his fans and his work. I'm totally going to watch it.
I'm not even a star trek fan and i got chills when he came out
The Line must be drawn here! This far no further!
If we don't also get Riker with all the "what the hell" then we riot
Yes!!
It did change my life! So much for the better! I love you, Patrick! I can't wait!!
He totally should have left the stage with, "I'll be in my ready room!"
Please be the debating, introspective and insightful star trek we love .. please do not make this anything like discovery .. please !
There will be some great action sequences but I don't think Stewart signed on to be having phaser fights and using Vulcan-Fu @ 78 (though I do think it'd be cool to see him do something. Nothing wrong with kicking ass and being old, look at Stallone, DeNiro, Jonathan Banks, Denzel Washington, etc.)
Of course they did the exact opposite.
A Star Trek series to move beyond Voyager and Nemesis.....?!?!?
Yes, it had better be exactly that.
I am so happy he is back. I'm not the hugest Star Trek connoisseur, but I love it like a fan -- as much as any fan probably. So, I am happy that ST is having a rebirth with an already successful TV show, plus (I HOPE) another one on the way ...
Aww I actually got goosebumps. And I'm of the original ST era.
post-Nemesis Star Trek.......POST-NEMESIS STAR TREK!!!!!!!!!
BadWolfei I'm not really sure about that
The full video shows Patrick saying that it would be 20 years after the events in Nemesis.
Please don't ruin him, please don't ruin him, please don't ruin him..!
Love Sir Patrick Stewart...I hope to see one day a short tv series on the Enterprise C please!
And about time... Welcome back Patrick, can't wait.
Dear UA-cam Viewers,
"Shakes head," like one person clapping? Seriously? lol. I thought they would be more excited; I can't wait to see how the series goes. Are you sure these people were real Star Trek fans? Tisk, Tisk, Tisk.
Take Care, With Love Through God and Jesus and The Holy Ghost,
Anthony Souls well, it's not like CBS Trek has a good track record. They're likely to screw this up too. I'm surprised anyone at all is excited about this. Anything beyond cautious optimism is unwarranted at this point.
The audio for the recording wasn't mixed well.
I’d say there’s a 100% chance the other cast members will come back in guest/supporting roles.
I bet Brent Spiner is looking in the mirror and asking himself if he looks like data still.
Brent will be in for sure.
Shatner would never ever do it.
That means Generations, time travel etc. not good.
Your show changed my life Patrick Stewart
Looks like we're going back to the future. Damn I'm so excited I can't hardly stand it....We sure have missed you Jean Luc..Welcome back MY friend
Hope they don't ruin his character.
Alex Kuntzman has fucked up pretty well already. He will fuck up Picard too.
Megabrogus .. how could they.. he'll screen everything he says
Me Too.
Nemesis already did that
Knowing the current trend like in Star Wars you bet he will be a grumpy old man drinking alien titty milk!
Patrick Stewart could never do wrong in any roll. I fear the writers of this new show are going to ruin it.
One of the all time best shows on television
Literally the BEST news I have had all year!!! 😍💗 *deliriously happy* Possibly all decade ❣️
MonkeyZorr I hope Patrick Stewart will be able to keep them true to Roddenberry's vision
Where's the whole video?
ua-cam.com/video/LLvfg6jA_ZA/v-deo.html
Get Kurtzman off the show. Where's Ron Moore, or Ira Steven Behr? Jean Luc Picard deserves way better than whatever Kurtzman can cough up. Shaka, when the walls fell...
Pomdimus Maximus bruh Alex whatever has to go he is killing Star Trek it's painfully clear he's a star wars fan
Ron D Moore is busy with Outlander..
Not ashamed to admit that I cried a little when I watched this. TNG helped me through a dark patch in my life and means A LOT to me. I sincerely hope they don't ruin this, but with Patrick being involved I have very high hopes.
Literally crying when I heard Jean-Luc Picard is back
Another Star Trek I won't watch until it comes to Netflix.
then you will never watch it. its cbs all access
This is Absolutely Fantastic News! HOWEVER, I hope in the World we live in today, that the Show ISN'T Turned into some kind of POLITICALY CORRECT STATEMENT! If thats the case, they can keep it. If Not....Welcome Back
Jean Luc!
GenesisPlanet The show is going to show how intolerant the Federation has become, because they won't take Klingon, Romulan, Gorn, Dominion, or Borg "refugees". Space hippies will protest at Starfleet HQ.
UltraKryptonian. .Wow, I think you're just "Pulling My Leg" there kiddo!
Just been watching the First Contact & Movies... we lack this wholesome stuff in our lives these days... this is Epic 😎💣💥
I'm so happy right now in this moment in time. TNG and Picard himself was such a big part of my childhood, I cannot wait to see this! Thank you Patrick Stewart!
This is bad news that CBS STD showrunners are producing another new ST series! I hate the idea of this!
awesome time to dismantal discovery and bring back STNG and please try to bring some of the old cast back if you can and use the writers and staff from the original STNG and please FIre blow up use for target practice the staff for Discovery
Worf will definitely comeback for sure.
Its not a TNG reboot its a sequel. Its going to be about what Picard does after Starfleet.
James Roark
I’m enjoying Discovery.
they had better not that dam show is my fav show they can do both but ya all need to leave my discovery the hell alone!!!
yep only took them over a year to make a season 2 good staff most series can do it faster then that
... brought a tear to me eyes
Finally! Not another prequel series!!!!
Tres Awesome!
Let's also bring back Shatner/Kirk in some capacity.
And puuuhlllease: Let's cover some NEW ground with a post-TNG/VOY series...!
no to the shatner kirk worst star trek ever. but the aftermath of the war would be good.
The inheritors of the Star Trek franchise are too preoccupied with stabbing their fans in the face with filth and encouraging the worst behavior of their new audience to have the slightest understanding of what Gene Roddenberry's intentions were about.
Here here.
I am afraid that CBS will screw this up just as they screwed up the DISCOVERY series.
Gordon Chin Yeah, I'm really really worried they will tarnish Picard. As far as I know, Discovery is the way it is because CBS Trek has to be 'substantially different' (and it sure is..) to fulfill legal obligations efc..
Herbert N Insulting someones intelligence who prefers compelling, intelligent plotlines, characters, concepts and ideas over flashy lights and consistent violence....... Lmfao.
The irony is sweet.
I think there was a ball bouncing in the grass over there, why don't you go play kiddo?
I don't generally report people but I really liked reporting Herbert who came off as ignorant and hateful and insulting for what reason I do not know except it's the language of reasoning abilities
AHHHH screaming tears of joy I'm wheezing
This is the coolest/greatest thing on Earth right now. So excited by this announcement!! 👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾👏🏿
Even this can't rescue Star Trek after STD and the way the fans have been treated.
Drogo Baggins how have fans "been treated"?
bigfanboy
Are you kidding? With Star Trek the primary thing was the crackdown on all the wonderful fan fiction. They really screwed themselves when they criminalized fans who were dedicated enough to do that. STD is so out of wack I couldn't watch it. The way Klingon's were portrayed didn't make any sense in relation to everything we know about Klingon's and that's just one of many things that fans are just supposed to swallow with a smile and say that they want more STD's. Well I for one don't want any STD's thank you very much.
Distraction outrage is working well. Not to mention the divide and conquer, social conditioning.. . They have all these IP's we "love" that are perfect weopons to control what we think feel and even identify as.
No clue what you're talking about. Discovery was perfectly enjoyable. Also, please stop the whole 'criminalizing fans' business. No one's hurting you or forcing you to watch Discovery if you don't like it. If the 90s series feel better, that's fine and you're more than welcome to stick to it.
Il H
All the fan fiction got stopped because of ridiculous over reaching implementation of copyright rules that made it a crime to make fan fiction. So I will not refrain from telling the truth that fans who produced fan fiction were literally criminalized. If you think that STD is good then enjoy but don't tell me what to like and don't tell me what to watch.
Illogical and not Trek I know, but I find something so off putting about Kurtzman's appearance. Ugh, bothers me every time I see a photo of him somewhere.
What he said about TNG, yes. That show taught me to give into my desires to explore as much of this world as I can! Cannot wait to hear more about this new show!
Yes!! Best Star Trek news I've heard in a very long time!
Meh. It's all about the writing. STNG was good for its time, but this is a new generation of viewers (pun intended) and they aren't going to become automatic fans because of one person. The story has to be compelling.
I predict that they'll bring him back as a drunken failure who quit StarFleet, because gotta be edgy these days. He'll appear in a few episodes then get killed in an anti-climatic way.
But at some point he'll tell Captain Wesley Crusher to 'Shut up Wesley'.
Wait where is Finn?
YES YES YAAAASS!!!
Made my whole year!
So, they're gonna lock another Star Trek series behind a paywall? Didn't they learn the first time when they lost millions??
You know that feeling when you walk in on your ex and she's still a trainwreck, but she wants to get back together and thinks everything will be fine?
_Hands Star Trek a card for a good rehab facility._
Please sort your shit out. I like Patrick Stewart, but you guys still have no idea what you're doing.
This time line will open up opportunities for all of the TNG, DS9, and Voyager casts to return or make cameo appearances. Having listened to the full speech, this series has the potential to gain a following closer to that of Axanar. Good work, CBS. (Finally)
Instant tears. This is amazing!
Hooray! Wait boo! Yet another al-a-carte channel to pay a subscription for? I don't watch Discovery because it is hidden behind a pay wall. Is that what TV is going to become? One to a dozen pay for as we go shows? Same thing with Stranger Things and Game of Thrones? I will just wait and buy it by the episode that to soak up all the rest of whatever junk they push on their premium pay channel.
You pay for all of about 3 months out of the year and then you can cancel until next season. People really are spoiled and entitled.
Just Imagine Like it or not, online streaming is the way of the future for both tv and movies. Companies can either adapt or die. CBS has decided on the former.
Consider that paywall a blessing if it means you haven't seen the travesty that is STD!
Become a pirate ;)
and its only gonna cost 9.99 a month to see this pathetic money grab. Think god i have every episode on blu-ray or dvd and you can't take those away cbs, but i bet you would if you could.
Oh no! Is it gonna cry?
People have been wanting to see a post nemesis Star Trek series for years, and with Patrick Stewart no less. There's no satisfying people.
6102livesipmurt - Wow. So, Trekkies have become as TOXIC as Doctor Who and Star Wars fans now? WTF is with all of this tribal BS?!? Locking ANY Star Trek that is not a movie behind a Pay Wall is a recipe for disaster. I don't give 2 shits WHAT is being said in the comments section here. ALL of these people have to PAY on top of their cable fee to watch a Star Trek TV show. CBS All Access lost MILLIONS with Star Trek Discovery. Now, they're desperate and begging Patrick Stewart to come and save them.
ah is someone going to cry, and no matter what people are just going to bitch because there is no satisfying people
YUP, HAVEN'T SEEN DISCOVERY BECAUSE I REFUSE TO PAY CBS FOR THE PRIVILEGE. ALREADY PAY A FORTUNE FOR CABLE. MONEY GRAB DESCRIBES IT PERFECTLY.
TODAY PEOPLE HAVE APPS FOR EVERYTHING. I'D LOVE TO SEE THEIR BILLS EACH MONTH, OR DO MOM AND DAD PAY FOR IT?
STEWART IS THE MAN!!! Thanks for your entertainment!
I think Patrick Stewart understands the character enough and has enough of a creative control to make this happen right. He won't let them screw this up. I think CBS is finally getting the message. Also he is one of the producers.
Trek is dead.
Zack TheBongRipper Star Trek is not dead. The fans of Star Trek has keep alive through fan fiction and com a cons.Star Trek will never die
Yep both Star Trek and Star Wars killed by idiotic sjw and feminists!
um no deep space nine is the best trek.
He is going to make it some SJW crap... Mark my words! I saw him whining about the 2016 election results and he talked about “resistance” against the White House. If they make this some political crap, I won’t watch it.
ajs1031 While Star Trek has addressed different social issues throughout its history, the majority of episodes are just great science fiction stories. Hollywood is currently using today's programming to push a flawed social agenda. I'm sick of it and so are many other fans.
We want science fiction to be inspired to invent. We dont want SJW crap to throw up to. Watch new star wars movies if you are into that.
Okay, don't.
Il H Well, if it turns out to be some SJW crap, I’ll continue to enjoy Trek in reruns. It won’t bother me one bit, dude! ✌️
+ajs1031 Commentary, yes. Sjw, no.
Well this is the greatest news ever! TNG helped me a lot and having Picard back is just fantastic! I can't wait to hear more info.
0:55 Since November of last year I set on a quest to binge watch all of The Next Generation on Netflix. I just finished "Birthright, Part 2" (Season 6, Episode 17) literally a few minutes ago. So I'm rounding the corner and headed for home at precisely the right moment. Welcome back, Sir Patrick.
HAAHHAA!!! GREAT reply! At times the writing is barely tolerable, yes. I just started to list the episodes in which the writers were "overly ambitious," to put it politely, then I realized that it would take too long. Anyway, thanks very much.
