    • @VegetaLF7

      Yeah, he was a completely different person before starting TNG and after. Listen to the other TNG actors talk about the early years. He took himself *super* seriously back then, once even chiding the rest of the cast for goofing off too much on set. He was the professional, dignified, Shakespearean actor and could not believe that the others were there "having fun" while on set. Eventually the others got to him and helped him remove that stick up his ass, basically breaking him until he started lightening up and goofing off too. Once that happened it was like the flood gates had opened. Suddenly Sir Patrick Stewart, dignified Shakespearean actor has become the biggest prankster and goofball on the show by the end of it, a change that has continued to this day with how much he enjoys doing comedies, even ones that mock his former roles such as Robot Chicken Star Trek skits. Seeing videos of how he was back then just goes to show how far he has come these past 30+ years, both professionally and personally.

    Interesting how Stewart is described as "the perfect captain" - not just on the show, but as an actor/colleague.
    Very similar to the praise Edward James Olmos got for his work on Battlestar Galactica as William Adama. Cast members would say repeatedly in interviews, "Eddie is the Admiral, and the Admiral is Eddie". I'm sure their approaches are different, but both have that respect factor. Their respective cast members seem to genuinely love them both.
    Kind of cool.

    Jean-Luc Picard vs James. T Kirk Vs Jonathan Archer

    • @trealsteve
      @trealsteve 4 роки тому

      Type 74 Nana-yon-shiki-sensha Match Time: 47:38 - Picard spends the beginning of the match knocked out outside of the ring while Kirk and Archer battle it out in the squared circle. Eventually Kirk put Archer through the Spanish Announce Table with a flying elbow drop. Picard then shoves both Kirk and Archer back into ring and only gets a two count on each. Meanwhile, Janeway (Picards Manager) throws him a steel chair to finish them off. But, Picard just looks at the chair in disgust and says “No! Not this way!”. Archer then gets up and hits the Attitude Adjustment on Picard onto the steel chair. Suddenly, the DS9 theme hits and Sisko comes rushing down to the ring. He slides under the ropes and begins laying the smackdown on Archer. Archer and Sisko roll out of the ring and their brawl continues into the crowd. Kirk then rolls over onto Picard for the pin, but Janeway pushes him off. Never one to hit a lady, Kirk just gets up and kisses Janeway only to be slapped. You then hear the sound of glass breaking over the P.A. system and see Lt. Uhura coming down to the ring to Lou Thez Press Janeway followed by punches and a drop elbow. Picard then catches Kirk and applies the Sharpshooter. After a prolonged struggle, Kirk was close to submitting, but outside the ring Uhura pulls him to the ropes and the referee forces Picard to break the hold. Janeway then comes around the corner and hits a spear on Uhura. Meanwhile, Archer and Sisko fight their way back to ringside but Commander Riker hits an RKO outta nowhere on Archer. Not one to be outdone, Tom Paris jumps out of the crowd and hits Sweet Chin Music on Riker. Sisko and Paris then start to brawl over to the American Announce Table. Paris starts to get the best of him and places him on top of the announce table, but Sisko gives him a low blow, and hits him with the Rock Bottom. Distracted by all the confusion outside the ring, Picard gets rolled up into a schoolboy by Kirk for only a two count. Kirk immediately applies the Figure-Four leg lock. Archer then takes a pair of brass knuckles out of his uniform and knocks out Kirk. Picard still weak from the submission hold is pushed out of the ring by Archer so that he can easily pin the unconscious Kirk. Janeway gets on the ring apron to stop him only to be pushed off by Archer. Then Uhura turns Archer around and gives him the Stone Cold Stunner. Riker pulls Uhura out of the ring and throws her into the steel steps, knocking her out. Pulling Picard to his feet, Riker then pushes him into the ring to pin the still unconscious Kirk. At that moment, Bones, Scotty, Chekov and Sulu come from under the ring to jump Picard and Riker. Then the TNG theme music hits and Data, Worf, Geordi La Forge, Dr. Crusher and Deanna Troi come down the ramp and gang warfare ensues outside the ring. Scotty hits a AA Spine Buster on La Forge, but gets surprised with an Anvil Flattener from Worf. Soon the Enterprise-D overwhelms the Enterprise-A crew. Picard and Riker beat down Kirk and attempt to pin him when suddenly, the lights go out. A loud dong is heard and the lights come back on. To everyone’s surprise, Ambassador Spock is standing across the ring from Picard and Riker. Riker runs toward Spock, but gets a hard right jab and a Vulcan nerve pinch for his trouble. La Forge gets knocked out with a flying lariat and Worf gets the Snake Eyes/Big Boot combo. Spock attempts the Vulcan nerve pinch on Data, but gets suplexed instead. Spock then immediately raises up, and starts punching Data in the ring corner with combinations. Data falls to the ground and Spock hits a leg drop on him. Then Mr Spock picks Data up and hits him with the Old School top rope maneuver. Picard tries to hit Spock with a steel chair from behind, but is stopped by Kirk and is put into another Figure Four. Data again rises to his feet and Spock chokeslams him. Archer attempts to knock Kirk out again with a steel chair but Bones stops him and gives him a right hook. Scotty then throws Archer into the ring right at Spock’s feet. Archer begins to plead, but attempts to punch Spock with his brass knuckles. Spock blocks the punch and puts Archer in the Tombstone Piledriver. Meanwhile, Commander Chakotay comes through the crowd and takes out the Enterprise-A crew with a sledgehammer. He pulls Kirk off of Picard and out of the ring and hits him with the Pedigree on the floor. Tuvok enters the ring and both he and Spock try to Vulcan nerve pinch each other until Tuvok attempts to chokeslam him. But, Spock overpowers him and gives him the Tombstone Piledriver. Chakotay then hits Spock with the sledgehammer from behind, knocking him out. Then all of a sudden, Chakotay gets a Rock Bottom from Sisko in the middle of the ring. Captain Sisko then removes his combadge, throws it in the crowd, and performs The People’s Elbow on Chakotay. Picard then comes up from behind and hits Sisko with a steel chair. Archer then low blows Picard from behind and tries to roll him up for the pin, but Kirk stops him. Bones then tosses something into the ring to Kirk. Kirk gets up and knocks Archer out with his own brass knuckles. Kirk then covers Archer...1...2...3!
      Winner: Captain James T. Kirk via Pinfall.

      Overdramatic hyperbole. Where at any point are they displayed as racist? And where in Star Trek history have those in charge NOT made terrible, awful, stupid, short-sighted decisions? Those in charge in Star Trek historically make poor choices & are idiots.
      Also, the Federation is composed of countless alien races. You think they are all just suddenly racist of one specific alien group? Or perhaps they didn't want to risk their lives for life long enemies that have constantly tried to destroy & undermine them?
      Lastly, things change. This is 25+ years after TNG, and things aren't the same forever. And in the show Picard is mad that they withdrew, meaning they initially planned to help but then the powers that be opted to change their minds....something very, very common in Star Trek among stupid leaders.
      Picard is old school & against that mindset. That's part of the journey of this show, hence why he even came back. You do know he was HEAVILY involved in every aspect of this show's development right? So blame Stewart for the story just as much as the other writers. Trek fans always think they're better, smarter & know more than everybody working on each show, but they'll give a pass to those actors they like.
      If you don't like the story, better include Stewart in your criticisms. He CHOSE to come back for this because of all the power & creative control they gave him. There's a reason he ignored all the other requests for a return until now.

      @TheMedievalNerd 4 роки тому

      @@corey2232 dude. You could have asked me to clarify points you weren't sure about I stead of running feely with what you think I wanted to say.
      The 25 years timespan from the end of TNG to the beginning of Picard is irrelevant in the grand scheme of the star trek universe.
      The federation has existed for hundreds of years. 25 years isn't that big of a time lapse as you might think it is.
      You pointing out that the federation is made of more than one race, which hopefully anybody who likes star trek knows. But it actually part of the problem. Historically they've made truces in moments like this and helped enemies in the past.
      The lack of resources (or find a better use for said resources) is the only justification (other than implying they are old enemies) that they gave us.
      Any Trekkie knows that concerns over resources is kind of a faux pas in the star trek universe. Replicators anyone?
      And you seem to think you've got a gotcha moment in your comment about "include Stewart in your comment". Mate. My comment was directed at a specific thing that Patrick said in the interview.
      The whole point is that I find it ironic that he has concerns of tarnishing the world built by TNG by doing another series. When the series he finally said yes to takes a dramatic departure from the 30 years of star trek world building spanning multiple time periods and crews. There a difference with the JLP of TNG challenging questionable decisions of star fleet. Versus quitting star fleet because they refused to help people condemned to die in a supernova.
      The Federation would never turn it's back on millions of people in need. That couldn't be further from the mentality and established behavior of the federation.
      As for implying that there was some people in the federation that made shitty decisions. I'm not too sure what specifically you are referring to?
      When was the last time The Federation refused to help a people in need? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.
      Star Trek is supposed to be about an optimistic vision of humanity in the future. Picard does not portray that whatsoever. The attitude of the reporter in the first episode is so off key to what humanity was portrayed as in the shows. I just can't accept it as is. It's a shitty attempt to make a morally grey show with action and grit. Because that's what hot right now. The style given to Picard is not taking inspiration from the TOS, TNG, Voyager or DS9 source material.
      It feels way more like JJ Abrams than it feels Roddenberry.

      @@TheMedievalNerd Why would I need you to clarify points? Racist xenophobes is already hyperbole and NOT what was portrayed in the show.
      Furthermore, being that it was EPISODE ONE, you do not know or understand the full extent of the events at play. Funny enough, after watching episode 2, it further explains the delimna the Federation was faced with, and none of it was due to xenophobia nor was it racism.
      So trying to imply those in control of Star Trek have turned the Federation into racists & xenophobes was unfounded & ridiculous, but hey, it's just more internet echo chamber nonsense being thrown around by Trekkies who hate anything post Voyager (nvm, Enterprise is suddenly beloved too, even though that wasn't the case at the time).
      No matter what the writers do, no matter who is involved, no matter if Sir Patrick Stewart himself wrote every line in the show, people would still s*** on it because the legend of Star Trek they've built in their minds is always superior to anything that will ever exist going forward.

    I wish CBS would allow me to do a one-time purchase of Season 1 on Amazon. I will NOT subscribe to CBS All Access to watch Picard.

    Stewart : "To go back to it... Might undermine what we did".
    Me: "Yep."
