No argument here. Boss has always made fantastic Delays. I own the DD-500, and it's Phenomenal. "My delay-search ended with that one" - I've said it before. Andy Martin can make a Tuna-fish-can sound incredible.
Damn Andy you feel like a cousin to me. When I bought my first pedal over a decade ago I came to you for advice and reference and here I am again... nobody is as good at this as you... I'm sorry I had a couple but I love you man, you're family to me and it had to be said 😀
I've been playing my DD-7 the past few days for the first time in quite awhile and it's one of my favorite pedals, if not my very favorite. It just sounds so good and works so well. You wouldn't think a little stompbox could be so powerful, especially considering how big they make many pedals nowadays. Boss makes amazing pedals.
@danielhall7996 The Taiwan/Malaysian made ones are great. The quality control is quite consistent. You really don't need to waste money to get good pedals.
It is indeed underrated--as much as I love all of my boutique delays, especially when you run a smaller board and aren't committed to one particular tone, the sound and functionality of this can't be beat. If you want a multi-function delay that's not bogged down by menus and hidden modes/parameters (assuming you don't need MIDI or Presets), this is the one to get. I had the DD-500 and DD-200, but the DD-8 got used the most and stayed in the collection (surprised myself).
I can definitely understand why, if only I knew how to recreate all of these tones on my DD-500. I get option paralysis when I dive into that pedals menu.
I've had loads of delays over the years from cheapies to boutique exotica. They may not be the 'best sounding'-although they sound fantastic--but I'm never frustrated by the single-pedal BOSS delays. They are flexible, gig-robust and pedals like this are ridiculously versatile, which is great when you're trying not to own dozens of pedals.
Best delay ever made. Other delay pedal manufactures can just close the door. I’ve had this for three days and I can’t believe the sounds that come from this delay pedal.
I have a secret method of judging pedals: How often does Andy smile at the sounds he and the pedal makes during the demo. This Boss dd-8 has a high ASI: (Andy Smile Index). I believe I’ll get one.
Hey Andy, Javier here, I was just trying to remember, how long from the first time I saw a demo of you?! maybe 15 years at least now? even more? And your playing just keeps getting better, I love the finger "no pick" style! Keep up the good work for another 15, or whatever it is!!! Greetings from Mexico
Thank you! I was on the fence about this one but you always come through and show what the pedal is all about Andy. Even if I may not always dig the pedal, I have appreciated your demos over the years👍
Bought this pedal and never realized it's potential....now all this moons later I listened to your demo closely and realized what a great purchase it was! Thank you Andy!
Damn Andy, another KILLER review. You pretty much always outdo everyone else's demos. Cover all the bases, hit features others ignore, with always tasty playing. I just loved the surfy tune at the 15:00 mark on that Jazzmaster. Great stuff!
Long-time subscriber hear Andy and I just love your Channel! What I particularly love is the fact that you're not just about speed chops to the point where the effect gets lost. I know you could burn, we all know you can but I appreciate the time you take to take us through all the different modes using chord progressions and melodic lines that make sense and show off that particular mode of operation. Really well done man!
these DD-8's stand up against the TC Electronic Flashback's, Eventide & H2o ect, a workhorse both live and in studio, and like all Boss and Roland gear super reliable and very affordable, i used a Boss Giga delay for a few years but this bad boys simplicity and reliability and clear tracking and ability to take out hecklers if thrown hard and still survive to play the show is second to none, great work dude!
Great demo of an excellent stompbox at an affordable price. That said, we will still be having a significative percentage of guitarists that will spend unprecendeted amounts of big bucks on "boutique" delays. Guitarists are a strange bunch of people: eternally unsatisfied and obsessed by a sound quest that only exists in their minds.
I see the “tone quest” as as education. Once you learn how a signature sound is made, you can stop obsessing about it but have it in your back pocket to use whenever the need arises.
Jeeezuz Xrist Andy.... why you make this? You make me buy pedal. Naughty!! Naughty!! Such a wonderful demo/showcase of this delay. Excelent playing and improvisation, really made this pedal shine. You are a true artist! Congrats!!!
@Luke If its like the dd4 then no, but i havent tried. But my guess is no because its a separate knob setting so if you run a loop the move to like reverse delay it would end the loop. I have a tiny lekato looper i ise instead, it has so much memory. You can have up to 9 loops, seemingly infinite layers, super easy to use, and built in tuner..only like $40
@@AndyDemos Just bought the pedal man, comes in a few days! I'm about to grab that M-audio expression pedal, but the manual for the delay says not to use anything but Roland or it could damage the unit. This one works fine? Is it worth getting the expression pedal? Sounded like it in the video! Thanks 🙂
Thanks man! Good demo video--I especially like that you took the time to explain each selection and actually show the pedal in a separate window to see how you set it. I've been considering getting one of these and this helps a lot in the decision making process. 👍👍
im excited for the 40 secs of loop time. my old digitech digi delay only has like 14 seconds. its always just nearly not enough time to loop chords 40 is definitely enough for most loops in mono.
Great demo, Andy! I love the finish on that Eastwood guitar! I bought the DD-8 earlier this year. it replaced three other delays I bought over the years. This demo reminded me I need to spend more time exploring all of the DD-8's functionality.
Hi Andy, really appreciate your demo videos. They help a lot when assessing new pedals on the scene. If you ever get approached by a manufacturer to do a signature pedal, please think about calling it the "Clean Tone", lol. Have a great Christmas/ New Year.
Awesome playing! I just ordered a dd8 and can’t wait to get it so I can try it out! It looks like it does quite a lot . I’m a huge fan of boss pedals for sure. Thanks for the cool tutorial.
I was hoping you wouldn't demo this so it would stay under the radar! But in the end you've given us all new ways to use this amazing little thing. That loop ditty was incredible.
I've had my DD-5 I bought new for over 20 years. I've had a lot of opportunities to to upgrade to the 6, 7, and now the 8 but haven't yet. At this rate I can't say I ever will.
While the DD-5 is still a worthy delay, it doesn’t do any of the Tape, Analog, Shimmer, etc voicings. The DD-8 also has a looper and more delay time available overall. I’m still a fan of the DD-2/3 myself!
I wouldn’t be too concerned, tone control is not really a common adjustment in delays. However, modes like Warm and Analog are dark while Tape and Standard are bright. Thanks!
That descending melody starting at 11:48 is super catchy. Love it.
Thanks so much for reminding me about this bit, it's a fun one!
It is nice
Almost Grandaddy’s “Stray Dog and the Chocolate Shake”
Andy I've lost count how many times we have had lunch together. I eat and you play! Keep up the great work my friend.
How romantic. Hope you light a candle 😂
LITERALLY ME RIGHT NOW
Nobody does it better than Boss (and Andy)
But I like my walrus pedals :(

however there's no necessity to buy the DD8 if you happen to already have the DD7 ?
@@Lowered_Gadh Probably not. The DD8 has the looper and a few different tones. But the DD7 tones should be more than enough for most applications.
@@endezeichengrimmDD7 also has a 40s looper..

Best delay ever made. Other delay pedal manufactures can just close the door. I’ve had this for three days and I can’t believe the sounds that come from this delay pedal.
Great playing Andy, pedal companies are lucky to have you, as are we
The slide loop at the end sounded awesome. Just a happy little jam
Thank you! That was "Walking All Day" by Graham Coxon. When I saw him do a solo gig, he played it in a similar way with a looper!
Great work, Andy! I really love these Boss Delay pedals. Excellent playing as always.
HIGHLY underrated indeed! The pedal AND the player! Great job, as always!

lotta smiles in this one :)
lotta smiles here too, what a cool bunch of sounds

Killer playing! You always picked great songs/ ideas to demo gear with. Thanks for making such great demos!

He could plug a guitar into anything and sell it. If he stuck it in a pile of 💩, after listening to him play...I would find me a pile to plug into.
All of DD series have such a similar distinct sound. I have the DD-2 I got new in the 80's and I love it....especially for slapback.
Bought this pedal and never realized it's potential....now all this moons later I listened to your demo closely and realized what a great purchase it was! Thank you Andy!
