Man, I get looking at some really interesting, esoteric pedals from “boutique” brands, but I always end up coming back to Boss. They just know how to do a usable, well-rounded pedal.
I remember when I built my pedal board and was browsing all these different pedals and the flack people caught for making “BOSS boards” but BOSS pedals are very well built, they’re incredibly reliable, and the variety offered in each pedal is all up to snuff. The other pedals on the market do have their own “flavor” and things which are unique to them and make them worth owning, but when it comes to staples and “workhorse” applications, BOSS pedals have always been the best and most easily implemented.
As a guitar player, it's like you are in my head and know exactly what I want you to play and do to make a perfect demo here. Bravo! Thank you! I want one!
Finally a good demo. "Pedal of the day" guy just playing mindless chops, not really understanding how to get the most of the delays being demoed. It's good to have a bit of a plan demoing something like this and not just winging it IMO. Thx, sounds great!
Felix Blacksher thank you! I spend a lot of time with pedals before making a video to learn them and to decide exactly what I want to include in a video. It’s so good to know that it shows!
@@DoNoise yeah definitely. I actually used to do demos in the wee early days of YT so I kinda know the best ways to go about things. Like, nobody wants to hear someone figuring out a pedal on the fly ya know? Anyway, keep doing your thing!

Is anyone interested in a comparison of the same modes of DD-8 and DD-500? Also, check out the description for timestamps. Headphones are highly recommended!
@@deluge1243 Yeah DD-8 modes are probably presets from the DD-500 (except for the Shimmer mode, though. They're very different.) I know some people like that Korg delay a lot but I don't see it around much. Maybe I'll have a chance to try one some day.
Well Done!!! Mine just showed up on my doorstep and this is going to be a great tool to help me on my way...and I so appreciate not having the mindless guitar god stuff. This is probably the best DD-8 video I've seen yet.
Great video. This pedal is so versatile, you can get just about as broad a range of delay tones as you can imagine. Stereo ins and outs means it works on keys too, the chorus at 8:21 sounds great on a Rhodes preset. You can do the same thing with +RV, i.e. take the delays right down and get a usable reverb.
Honestly, I passed this up several times because I could see it didn't show the guitar being played. According to all the other videos I've seen, it was confusing trying to separate what they were actually playing with what was the delay. To me, seeing the guitar seemed to help me distinguish the difference. However, I am glad that I finally watched it because you simplified it in such a way that it is easy to make that distinction. Also, the script just makes it so clear. Excellent video in my opinion. Subscribed
Thanks! I agree that sometimes with certain pedals it’s hard to understand what the pedal is doing if you can’t see the guitar player. I always try to keep everything simple (not that I’m holding back the virtuoso in me!) and it works fine, in my opinion.
I have a DD8 coming tomorrow. The very first effect in the video with the +RV and reverb, this is one of the effects I am looking to create. I noticed you strummed right at the beginning before you engaged the pedal. Then notated you were using your volume nob. Were you strumming one string at a time while using the nob and adding each string to the mix? Any explanation you can give to that first effect would be very helpful to me.
I’m playing notes or chords and then turning up the volume. Basic volume swell with the volume knob on my guitar. The feedback knob on the pedal is set to maximum so it keeps repeating those swells, creating a drone.
love it. looks like a great modern update to the dd7. The warp, glitch, shimmer, endless reverse feedback ect are a very nice take on the sounds boutique companies are throwing out the last couple of years. for people that want a plain, basic delay there is still the option to buy the boss dd3t. great, now i want one...
More than a marketing demo, this video is educational as the functionality is tastefully demonstrated in a minimalist kinda way. You’ve raised the bar for demo videos. The product’s functionality set is complex. I just bought one and feel validated.
Oh damn :( now I want to replace my DD 6 with this, because here the tempo of the glitch is controllable and the warp is actually very usable. They really did something very right here.
Nice. Great video. Interesting understanding. Especially the loop reverse long delay, trails on, and then tuning off to play over. Very cool. Great work. Looking forward to rewatching when I receive my dd8 this week.
By inserting the double switch pedal, on the right side, you also manage the tap tempo, besides by pressing the pedal without any switch, and you also get the twist, that you can only have it in this way.
Like the DD7,the problem with these BOSS pedals is there is no subdivision control, dotted 8th etc when you select the special fx options like modulated delay.
The biggest oversight by Boss on the DD-8, is that there is no sub-division control that the user can get to quickly. If I wanted to go from a 1/4 note delay to a dotted eighth in a live situation between songs, it's impossible to do quickly. You have to actually unplug the unit and press certain buttons to get there when you plug it back in.
Lots to think about here with your demo. I had a Boss DD-5 years ago and didn't think to try some of the stuff you done regarding different outputs and Volume control manipulation.
whoa man, very nice one ! Been using the DD7 with my sax for a while now. Just the Glitch and Warp mode are making this one worth playing with. And the Glitch mode is in stereo ! That's super great, even compared to other amazing pedals like the Grazer etc... Cheers !
@Eat your cake and Have it too Hey ! Sorry for the delay (very funny..) Yes, I have a channel with sax and effects music and gear demo :). Here is my most recent upload: ua-cam.com/video/aUMKdPembN0/v-deo.html
Good video. I have the dd-7. Oh, but you forgot to add one thing. There's something called a hot mix. What you do is you play a chord with a delay going on and then change your feedback and your time knobs live while the sound is still playing out of the amplifier. You will end up with some Radiohead like sounds. They were actually known for doing some hot mixing on some of their CDs in the past before they had access to more advanced technology.
The DD-7 has been a mainstay staple on my board for years, this I think will have to join it's side now. I've gone through a large amount of delays, including botique, the only ones I'm keeping are the Black Fountain, Dark Star, Meris Polymoon, and a cheap one from FRIDAYCLUB.
Amazing video, thanks! I bought the pedal last week and I din't knew how much I could have get out of it! I mean, how to achieve the chorus FX is a really appreciated tip! Other than that, I can't overcome the fact that the pedal accepts a stereo input (wanted to use it to record some outer footages coming from the PC headphones jack) but it doesn't sum it and play it in real time if using the mono output from the pedal. It does it instead, if using the stereo out, but you lose half of the volume from the mono input instrument... That's the only downside to this pedal for me right now!
Michael Gorman this is actually very simple if you want it to be. You don’t need to use the extra features if you like its tone and settle on the mode you like.
Nice! Best Boss DD ever by the sound of it, I have a Nu-X Time Core and that already has most of these features, but I use it conjunction with a Behringer DD600 (cheap Boss DD6 knock off) which I think I will be replacing with one of these.
I own a tonal recall delay which cost a bomb! Wonderful sounding delay but sadly started playing up and having randomly self oscillation time here and there which is a massive no no for life use! I contacted the company to help me but they just seem to lose interest?? thought they would offer to fix it for me?? so after frustration! I decided to go back to Boss! Bought a DM-2w and now ordered a DD-8! Never had a Boss pedal play up on me!! be careful with how you spend you money :) for pricey pedals, I can recommend Thorpyfx, I own a Camoflange and it’s a keeper and given me zero issues
Presently my favorite is TC Nova Delay because of BPM and precise ms. readout. I use the 3 preset setting, giving me 1/4, dotted eights, and 1/4 + dotted eights. that's all the settings I need, and it's quick enough to work live, without adding confusion ;-) Also you can do a 100% wet signal, dialing the mixknob, which I use on a pedalboard.
Mine arrived two days ago. Well... I think I’ll need another Marshall now. This pedal is just awesome. Sings. Still diggin into it, but reverse, shim and the looper just worth the price. I have yet to find a mode that I don’t like.. And it sits perfectly before my Digitech Polara reverb.

Hi great video!!! Could you explain the rev infinate loop you got at 11minutes? How did you record the intial input signsl if you only have input a to output b...this would be great feature for me. Cheers Rob
#W_O_D_W_O connecting input a and output b only changes the maximum delay time available. The pedals still functions as normal. I have the trails on so the repeats keep going when I turn the pedal off. What I play when the pedal is on is repeated infinitely (because the feedback is set to maximum) and when I turn off the pedal, I can play on top of it.
