Great video because you're the first person I've found on YT that explains how to setup panning and wide stereo. I had to go online to get the manual and it did'nt explain the setup like you did. Much appreciated.
Thanks Leon! Glad I caught your video. I just got a DD8, and I hate reading manuals. I thought the pedal was pretty useful out of the box, but these secret modes makes it all the more awesome. I was wondering why I couldn’t find a panning delay. And a mode selector switch on this pedal would have been Boss!
*holy crap that sound really good!!!!! WE NEVER KNEW! Prince use to do this, and i always wondered how he was getting that pingpong with his rig. That good enough to use in the studio for a main delay. You know now that I think about it, they have a lot of units like this from back in the deys BEFORE YOUR TIME TODD.. its all over their products from video game systems like the SEGA GENESIS, to arcade games to music equipment just like this - EG: all types of SECRET MODES to activate. it use to be so very fun finding and stumbling upon all those things across all your toys, gear and gadgets.* #cheers
Too much fun ! So your saying we should read the manuals 😂 didn’t even know the dd8 could do this. The Reverse mode was too intense … was getting flashbacks . Great video and cheers Leon … you the man 👊💥👊🍻
I'm with you. I think one of those mini switches would be a much better way to do this. Regardless, it makes beautiful sounds. That reverse delay is just great.
I think the panning mode (activate yellow blinks on loop) does the same number of repeats in ping pong, the wide mode (activate yellow blinks in analog) does a different type of rhythm pattern repeats on left, same as you played on right. Anyone noticed? This mode is fantastic. At least in the +RV starts to work that way. Try it, get there!
You always think you read the manual. You thought you read it twice. You even thought you sought after the specific features/questions. Yet you still end up finding that you missed it somewhere along the way. That's also why keeping the manuals and looking into them year or few later is so satisfying. You might get a revelation on a very core mechanic of whatever you're using. Be it a guitar effect or a video game or whatever appliance. This effect pedal is also an example of how we've evolved outside pedal format again. This item should be a rack effects processor already, it would make it easier to use by the UI, without missing things. Or maybe you disagree that once you set it to your desired setting, once you find the one for you from the plethora of options and adjustments, the form factor beats everything. But my SDE-2000 has far less options and is still great for rack format. Also can you just do a clip where you have the epic ping pong and then quickly turn the time knob for space laser gun effects.
Nobody reads the manual. 😆 This reminds me of the Strymon Cloudburst and its extra foot pedal functions. Had to constantly unplug and replug the power to change to different settings. Kinda annoying. I'm digging this DD-8 but a switch on the back of the pedal like you said would make perfect sense. I'm thinking this is the Delay I'd pair with my RV6 for that shimmer/ambient vibe stuff.
DD-8 is one of my fav delay pedals but I find it really frustrating to switch between panning and wide stereo mode. Hope the next gen pedal has those switches like you mentioned.
I wonder does panning and stereo modes work if both inputs are plugged for instance with some stereo modulation effect? I have found nothing about it in manual.
Lupin wanted more delay so it's Good thing you learned how to milk it quite a bit more to get the cream at the top for him.. super job you are hired fur sure now Leon... Lupin will be quite happy with extra cream on his whiskers... 😺
Very very cool.. Everytime you play anything in Stereo and I wear my headphones I think I need a stereo setup.. 😛 I however have found in a live situation that most of the time if the audience member isn't right in the center of the room they don't really hear the stereo so well.. I do love the idea for recording though.. Very cool.. Man, you're the man when it comes to gear.. Just too cool and such useful info.. I'm going to have to ask you a question on the Monday questions because I just thought about something I need to ask about going direct.. Thank you brother.. You're the man.. Really! You add so much enrichment to my guitar hobby I can't thank you enough kind sir! God speed brother! Tim
Hahaha man I had the guitarport when i was just starting out playing and not even my Half-Life addicted teenage gamer brain could figure out how to set that up
Wow ! I do appreciate sharing those "hidden" secrets. I wish, when demoing the stereo panning and wide mode, that it be recorded on a DAW with extremely panned left and right channels and fed into You Tube for us to better savour the results. I am aware that you´ve done the "stereo" mode @ home with two amps left and right.... BUT it all went mono into you "speech" microphone. Therefore, I hear them all in MONO. I hope that helps. Peace aaaaand Cheers \m/
*they could have kept it true to form with 4 knobs and at minimum put a few switchers on the inside or the front next to the power supply. THOSE GUYS🙄*

Glad I could help!
The one advantage of me usually having to bus couple of hours to guitar stores...any products I buy, I read the manual twice over before I'm home.
It all adds to the anticipation!
ANYTIME I HEAR PANNING MY FIRST THOUGHT IS THE VOCALS AND GUITARS ON DLR SONG SKYSCRAPER-- EPIC USE OF PANNING TO GET A WIDE SOUND.

Something similar with the DD7, I just checked the manual online. I'll try this later. Thanks!

Agreed!
Concur.
But the classic layout is best
*As per usual Todd, here is a jolly ole thumbs up! Hope all is well for you down under!*
Thanks for this mate, I have just bought one of these, great demo.
Enjoy it!
Hi Leon, thanks for the great review!
My pleasure!

Thanks for this, new reasons to love my fav' delay pedal.
No problem!
I’m so glad you did this video! Because I was feeling the same way… Must’ve missed it?😂
how cool! wonder if you can do this on the dd-200?
Great To Be Honest, I Never Read Manuals. But this proves you better read the manual. I do agree it has to be on a switch.
You always think you read the manual. You thought you read it twice. You even thought you sought after the specific features/questions. The BOSS of delay pedals for me
All of your video's are useful brother! Don't forget that!
Tim
I appreciate that!
@@LeonTodd It's true man!
I like those hidden modes..!
Takes an already excellent pedal up a few notches!
Colin Farrell himself… Leon, your new beard look makes me see Colin.
Thanks for all the useful vids man!
To be sure!!!
I wonder does panning and stereo modes work if both inputs are plugged for instance with some stereo modulation effect?
I have found nothing about it in manual.
Leon, your playing these prs guitars, you could try and get and endorsement deal, with prs

How do i set it back to default from the 2 stereo modes
Dotted 8th notes? Is it the same concept? Just shifting the mode to warm?
How long are the settings saved once the pedal is unplugged?
From either stereo mode, how do you restore it back to the default mode?
switch to Standard in setting mode.
It’s a great pedal , but I can’t imagine me doing this through a single amp .
DD-8w with mode switch to access delay type....?
Will these settings have any significance in a mono setting, or just be a factory setting?
They require stereo to be useful
so the DD8 will do things the DD20 wont... who would of thunk it. great vid BTW
I really dislike reading manuals, and usually products that make me read them. Sometimes it’s absolutely necessary though - see Line 6 hd100 😂
Hahaha man I had the guitarport when i was just starting out playing and not even my Half-Life addicted teenage gamer brain could figure out how to set that up
do these settings stay when you turn your rig off at night?
Yes

It is recorded in a DAW and you're not hearing any of my vocal mic in the guitars.
Or maybe you meant...." the guitars thru" my vocal mic.@@LeonTodd
My dd8 with my Way Huge Atreides...mind blowing fun
Great pedal love mine unbeatable at the price
So much good stuff in such a small package!
Boss is best, still (from a 90s guy)
Thanks for this very informative video! Didn't check that option as well 😅 Eat your vegetables, read your manual.
Good life advice!
could anyone explain this in german? thx
COOL for once i actualy hear good ole Stereo Seperation, almost gone since Digital came to the music world.
*they could have kept it true to form with 4 knobs and at minimum put a few switchers on the inside or the front next to the power supply. THOSE GUYS🙄*
Hello, from Ohio
Switch please DD9 !!!
Boss DD series just "does delay good"
Unless you are shoegazing it has most things covered well :)
Is that what Muslim music is? Just reverse lead guitar? Guess all of those zeppelin records really did have the devil on there....
