It may be the greatest live performance of a rock song ever -- and that drumming may be the greatest live for a single song; I didn't know drumming could be that intensely perfect!!!
You just witnessed what many believe to be the birth of heavy metal to the mainstream public. There were others but Sabbath brought it to the masses. Many also believe their original style set the template and raised the bar for the popular metal bands influenced by them Rock on and stay heavy!! 🤘🤪🤘
As a drummer myself first I wanna say hail to Black Sabbath! They've influenced hundreds of thousands of bands and have millions of fans around the world for decades and decades now. Bill Ward is my favorite drummer and I've always thought he's always been underrated. But those of us who know this music know how badass he was and is 🤘
My high school experience started with Led Zeppelin in 1969 and ended with Dark Side of the Moon in 1973 and all the great music in between. I felt I won the musical lottery for being a teenager in those days! 🎸
Bill Ward is one of the greatest rock drummers ever, right up there with Bonham, etc. Geezer Butler is one of the GOAT bass players. Tony Iommi is one of the GOAT guitarists (especially considering the tips of his fingers got cut off in a work accident, and he fashioned homemade prosthetic tips to play with). And Ozzy is... well, Ozzy. Nothing else needs to be said about Uncle Oz. 🙂 He wasn't quite as animated when I saw him in '84. But he was in the midst of a legendary drug and booze bender (and so was I, actually), and was partying hard with the guys in Motley Crue who were opening for him, and that made for some crazy stage antics.
This version is great but it is before the record company had them change the lyrics which are also great and you can hear them on the video version. You are right, Bill Ward is a drumming god, IMO, he beats the hell out of the drums and his fills are so unique, you can definitely tell him apart from any other drummer.
This concert is from December 1970. Paranoid was released in September 1970. Ozzy is singing a mix of the correct "War Pigs" lyrics and a mish-mash of the original "Walpurgis" lyrics. Not sure why really.
This Brussels concert at the Theatre 140 (wrongly attributed to Paris for years because the original video was mistitled) is just incredible, one of the finest rock performances ever captured on film

This video brings back a fun memory. A buddy and I went and saw Black Sabbath perform at the Omni in Atlanta in 1975 when I was 15 years old. Because I was 15 my parents wouldn't let us go by ourselves so we had to have an adult go with us. That adult was my 4'11" tall grandmother. We had floor seats and everyone around us thought that she was the coolest grandmother. While she persevered through the show and was glad it was over I will never forget her thinking beyond her musical likes and comfort to take her grandson and friend to the concert.
Excellent song and video to react to. The drummer is Bill Ward and as you can see he's a BEAST!! I suggest staying with this concert for one more song before moving all the way up to today to hear Ozzy. The song I recommend is Hand Of Doom from this 1970 show. It is about the dark side of drug use soldiers coming home from Vietnam would experience. Im sure others will say to go right to Ozzys new song but having lived through his catalogue for all these years, I wouldn't trade that ride for anything. You have 52 years of music to get through, and you started right at the beginning with your first 2 songs! Bravo, Miss. Either way, I'll be watching. Love the headbanging. 💜💜
I was 14 in 1970. I was allowed to go to concerts when I turned 15. Black Sabbath was just on of my first. They were so loud that my ears were still ringing the next morning. Now at 65 my hearing is shot but no complaints. Ozzy did change some of the words here versus what came out on the album version. Great reaction to a classic song!👍
I watched your reaction to Paranoid 😊. This is a much longer Black Sabbath song. Ozzy, and Black Sabbath, they fu**ing Rock! This is live in Paris 1970. Fu*k yeah! You used the word "pretty ", that's great, I love ❤️ that! Me, me, me. Just beautiful 😍! Ozzy says that at Cal Jam..."You're Beautiful!" Love it!❤ All in, that's the key. Fully committed. Yeah.
My favorite, it's the oldest... I can't stop loving BEHIND THE WALL OF SLEEP...The live 1970 unreal... All of Black sabbath songs on their first album, is something that will never die... It was RAW... Over the line badass
My favorite Metal band ever!!!. The first time I heard this song was back in 1990 in a cassette copy from Paranoid that belonged to my dad, I still have it, those white colored Warner Bros. cheap pressings from the early 80's. I felt in love with Black Sabbath right at first heard later I researched the whole discography through the 90's. Tony Iommi is the milestone to every heavy music since 1970, he is the core of Heavy Metal.
Yes you need to check out Patient No. 9!!! It features the magical Jeff Beck as well. Then after that, check out Degradation Rules which features the guitarist of Sabbath, Toni Iommi 🤘
12:25 You're right, the strings were just never trimmed after being replaced. That's their natural length. Maybe they couldn't find the wire cutters. Strings do break on occasion while being played, and if you want to see an example during a live performance, do a reaction to Stevie Ray Vaughan - _Look at Little Sister_ (Austin 1989) which is the most unbelievably professional example of dealing with the unknown like a complete badass. It's also a great song by a guitar master.
This whole concert is one of their best earlier performances especially with all the amazing passion and energy they all have. Ozzy is Hot. Warch live version of Black Sabbath song. Ozzy goes off the rails in that one.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. I promise you many people watching play music themselves, and will be glad to answer with what they know. As for Tony's strings, I think he just didn't cut off the excess length. There's been a few moments where it was fashionable in it's unkept rebellious look of the instrument
It's also a thrifty measure just in case the strings DO break (depending on where they break), you can rethread the ball at the end and restring it, bypassing the need to buy more (they didn't have a lot of money at this point). Now, if you wanna see broken strings, check out Stevie Ray Vaughan- it's not a real SRV concert if he doesn't break a string during a solo. ua-cam.com/video/8yWaZVchd6k/v-deo.html

For those who only know Ozzy from his tv program, this is a good example of early Black Sabbath. Complex arrangements. Bill Ward was the hardest hitting drummer I ever seen. Great drummer. Back then most rock bands had a drum solo somewhere in the concert. This whole song could be described as a drumm solo because it never lets up. Tony Ionni. Upper teir guitarist. And then there is Ozzy. He might sound kind of out of it now but he is nobody’s fool. He’s a great front man. Vocals, song writing and stage presence. This is a complete band.
This was probably the first ever performances of this song before the recording, they often did this, Ozzy is basically singing out things from his head. I've recently viewed your channel and watched some of your videos. Hope your well :)
I think you should react to the track “Black Sabbath” from the album of the same name. It’s the opening track, and sums up Sabbath’s sound perfectly. That song and album was the birth of a whole genre of music. It’s sinister and mesmerising at the same time. I think doing it as your next Sabbath reaction makes sense because it sets the scene for everything that follows.
The strings is just how guitars looked in the 70´s, not cut like you say.. drummer Bill Ward the father of thrash/death metal blast beats.. Still amazes me that Black Sabbath was doing this stuff in 1968. Their sound is still better then anything today imo
And you can tell he came from the "jazz school". Look at the hi-hat working all the time, love it. Well a lot of drummers in that time came from that school or were influenced by. That's why they're or were so f... good.
The lyrics of this song are great, especially considering what was going on at the time.....or even whats going on today I guess. His strings didn't break....he just restrung his guitar and didn't cut off/trim the ends of the strings
Gotta be one of the best live performances ever! Not a big Ozzie fan but damn he was 100% committed and invested. The bassist's fingers were flying, the guitar player killed but Bill Ward absolutely annihilated that drum kit! And you had some awesome energy going yourself, lotsa fun!🔥💥🤘

One of my fav albums (cassettes) back then, was Ozzy after sabbath, Speak Of The Devil. Sabbath songs but played more ferociously, because the band contained some heavy hitters in Rudy Sarzo, Tommy Aldridge and Brad Gillis.
Now you know how Tony got the nickname Death on the 6 strings!! Heavy, slow sepulchre sounding riffs as if coming from some dank mouldy Tomb time has forgotten. They helped create heavy metal back in the day. John ' Ozzy' Osbourne. They started in 1966 as Earth. They changed it to Black Sabbath in 68. Had their first hits in 1970. Ozzy started with them. I loOOOVVvveee your reaction to this video !! For myself, i think this performance is one of the BEST in heavy metal music. Black Sabbath is my favorite rock band. (The Ozzy era of the band)
Toni Iommi's strings (beyond the tuner knobs) is just excess string that he didn't cut off. He liked having a lot of excess string sticking out when he plays.
No broken sting. Those were just the ends of the strings hanging out. This was in the days before "trimming" the strings, (much like other things!) was trendy.
Crazy train is a good Ozzy song too!! This is my favorite song along with crazy train , and the drummer had oxygen backstage to catch his breath after the performance!!!❤❤
Okay young lady you are in for a treat. This is great energy! This is their antiwar song. And yes cutie pie I saw them back in the 1970's. One of the best shows I have ever been to. Non-stop sound!!! You weren't born yet. But you are learning now. I'm SO proud of you!! Learning is a life time journey! They were in their early 20's in this video. Can you imagine being 20 and doing this?? You mentioned how hard Bill Ward was rocking that drum kit. A bit of trivia for you. When I saw them they would finish a song AND start right into the next one.... NO PAUSE!!! A one point Geezer, Tony, And Ozzy left the stage. Bill stay with his kit and continued to play the crap out of the drums... The guitar string question you were correct in that it is just extra length on the strings... Locate and review NIB. You'll know you have clicked on the correct one if you see a full moon first thing!!
When 1969/70 a little british Band from Aston changed the Music Genre forever and invented a new music style : HEAVY METAL!.....of course its Ozzy.....one of the best lyrics he has ever written and one of the best anti war songs ever written.....and damn, you only has started your journey into the Osbourne/Iommi/Butler/Ward World like me 50 Years ago....
From Hawaii this kid I love watching your reaction on this song your reaction was like what am I listening to you are so funny I like to watch your show all the time God bless aloha
The Paranoid video is a taping for TV where they are lip synching to the audio. This one is live in a club so it has more energy than a TV studio version.
did u know the guitarist had an accident at a factory he worked at before being in black sabbath where he lost his finger tips? the hand he uses on the frets the two middle fingers r plastic tip.
The guitarist Tony Iommi cut off 2 of his fingers a night before their first "big" gig back in the day working in a butchers shop. He made new fingertips from a dish washing dispenser and had to learn to play again with looser strings, thus the lower sound. Pretty cool factoid I'd say
On closeups you can see those odd looking fingers (or fingertips, dont know what it is in english but he only cut the first part or notch of those fingers, not the whole things
Yes! More Black Sabbath for sure, one of my favorites of all time! But did anyone else think of her reacting to Tool's Pneuma(Danny Careys drum cam video) when she spoke of the drummer in this reaction. I'm I the only waiting patiently for her to start down the road of Tool reactions. The Pot would be a good start too.
You have to remember this was released in 1970....music like this was unheard of. They laid down the riffs, writing, etc that created was you know today as Heavy Rock and Metal, if you search Heavy Rock guitar...every single heavy rock or metal guitarist will say it's Tony Iommi. And the guy plays his guitar with basically 3 fingers....he formed fingertips out of household items after he chopped them off with a saw at work. Black Sabbath is and will always be the beginnings of Heavy Metal or Heavy Rock.
I'm with you on this one Bill Ward is out of his head w his drumming in this performance! The official video of this song from Sabbath is also great the lyrics are a bit different too as this Paris performance was before it was released on vinyl I believe and changed somewhat

Told you that you would LOVE this!!!!

La Mejor Banda De La Historia, Por Los Siglos ..De Los Siglos.🤟🙏🏽

The Paranoid video is a taping for TV where they are lip synching to the audio. This one is live in a club so it has more energy than a TV studio version.
did u know the guitarist had an accident at a factory he worked at before being in black sabbath where he lost his finger tips? the hand he uses on the frets the two middle fingers r plastic tip.
Woah, I had no idea Ozzy had a new song. Featuring Jeff Beck too. I'm going to listen to that after this. Thanks!
One of the Many of their Legendary Anthems..And other Classics Like Paranoid..Of All The Covers of this My Favorite is Faith No Mores Cover
N.I.B , Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sleeping Village.... So pleased I have seen them live
The pioneers and originaters of metal!!
I'm with you on this one Bill Ward is out of his head w his drumming in this performance! The official video of this song from Sabbath is also great the lyrics are a bit different too as this Paris performance was before it was released on vinyl I believe and changed somewhat
their concert in 1997 was also brilliant, if you watch Tony Iommi the guitarist finger, its prosthetic
Black Sabbath are the Heavy Metal invertors!
That video and that song are music history, period.
Epic Tune! Said so much! 😎
You did it Thank You and I hope you enjoyed the great music
Yes, they are on fire now, aren't they! 🔥🎸
They are ❤️
There is no anewer to this, every song is so good so
That drummer was EVERYTHING
Biss: "Who are you?"
Ozzy: "godfather of all the metal"
There will never be another band like the original Black Sabbath, way ahead of there time.
Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath pretty good.Bill Ward punishing the drums and Iommi’s guitar work all amazing for a video 52 years ago.Truly the grandfather of metal
yeah it looks like the strings weren't cut. I think it looks cool / thanks for posting this timeless video
Do backstories about Toni’s fingers. These guys are everything. Started head banging? Yes. Bill Ward is a nuts drummer. Underrated
