That's honestly beautiful ❤ but for whatever reason (i am drunk) i had to laugh..😂 guess it's the trope of 'just getting out of a wheelchair when you like to' that got me 😅
Drummer Bill Ward was such a BEAST drummer!!!!! Young Ozzy was SO energetic and had a great stage presence!!! Black Sabbath started the Heavy Metal genre as we know it (originally started as a Blues rock band, so their first 2 albums had a lot of bluesy influences and grooves).
Tony Iommi, the guitarist worked in a metal fabriicatiom factory. On his last day after quiting to play music full time he was asked to fill in on a machine had never used. It was a steel cutting machine. He had an accident and cut off his two middle fingers close to the first knucle. Instead of giving up, he melted plastic to make new fingr tips. He tuned the guitar lower to make it easier to play, which created a dirtier heaver sound.
Imagine it's the early 70s, you just got through hearing a Beatles song, and then this song plays, and changes your whole life and how you see rock music-
Black Sabbath is up there with The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd as one of the most important bands in rock history. Very original, and hugely influential.
Way more influential than people give them credit for. Even Van Halen used to perform an entire Black Sabbath album (think it was 'Vol 4') back before they were signed to a record label. Then they did their first world tour as opener for Sabbath. I've seen and heard so many bands that are heavily influenced by Sabbath, it's incredible.
It’s crazy how talented Ozzie’s voice is dude smoked snorted or injected whatever tf he could find for like 50 years and dude can still sung damn near perfect on his most recent album
Ozzy was a perfect fit for Sabbath, and the combined talents in this band made them legendary. You can´t really go wrong when picking songs from their early albums. Bill Ward is the heaviest jazz drummer ever heard. If you look carefully, you can see that he's beating the drums with the thick ends of his drumsticks for extra power. His fills are always very creative. He has become my favorite drummer, because I never tire of listening to him.
This was Black Sabbath's anti-war song. Not the flower power hippie music coming from San Francisco late 60's early 70's. All members were from Brmingham England. It was a factory town with half destroyed buildings & rubble from WW 2.If ya'll would like to see a video of Ozzy's life & 50 yr journey good, bad,& ugly please watch "Ordinary Man",It's a ballad but it's a great song & video. It's the title track from his album Ordinary Man 2020
Tony Iommi (the guitarist with floofy hair lol) chopped off the tips of his fretting fingers in a sheet metal accident and made finger protectors to allow him to play. Unfortunately even with protectors it was too painful to play. To overcome the pain he slackened the strings which made a deeper sound and heavy metal music was born. You can clearly see the finger protectors in this video.
Lots of people were frightened of black Sabbath because of press labeling them as satanic and Rubbish like that. They are the soul of heavy metal, but if you listen to the lyrics this anti war song is as current as ever. They sang about heroin effects hand of doom, mental health in paranoid. They are not just brilliant musicians. Great reaction 👍
Totally agree with others, Black Sabbath is one of the very best and most influential rock bands ever. Incredible, raw performance with a young Ozzy going as crazy as the band behind them, Bill Ward is killing his drum kit! Do the studio original when you can for the sound quality and pristine mix. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎶
One thing about the guitarist he lost the finger tips (in a work related injury) on his fretting hand and he made his own prostetics to continue playing guitar.
Happy New Year!! This is from their 2nd album, Paranoid, which was released in Sep 1970. These are alternate lyrics to the main ones you hear on the studio version. Before the release, in live performances like this one , they would alter the lyrics.

One of rock's most important songs of all time. One of the first heavy metal songs by the (imo) originators of the genre, and one of the best anti-war songs of all time. And those drums! This performance was recorded before the band had finished the lyrics, and they are quite different on the album version. Adding the song to a playlist of All Time Greatest Songs and ensuring it's always a part of your life forever is recommended. If ever a song was worthy of such a thing it's this one.

This is from their legendary concert in Paris (1970). Before "Heavy Metal" became the universally accepted term for this kind of music, bands like Sabbath were described variously as "Downer Rock" and "Atomic Blues". Sabbath were from Birmingham, England, a grim industrial city where, as guitarist Tony Iommi put it, "you either worked in a factory or joined a gang." Such a great band.
I thought so too the first time.... Someone mentioned in the comments that they were still working out the lyrics at the time of this show. They changed the lyrics 7 times before settling on what they are now.
Ozzy did some crazy things but that is not why they fired him. It was his sobriety problems. Sharon Osbourne was the daughter of his manger. She believed in him. She helped and encouraged him to restart his career. And the famous biting the head off a live Bat, happened when he was doing that with fake bats and he didn't realize that the Bat a fan threw up on stage was live.
It was originally titled 'Walpurgis', an anniversary associated with witches and Satanists, but was changed on the recommendation of Black Sabbath's record company. The lyrics of War Pigs take aim at military commanders, comparing them to sorcerers and “witches at black masses
What makes this recording so special is Ozzy uses lyrics from both songs, Walpurgis and War Pigs, mixing them into what you hear and see in this 1970 concert footage. The original lyrics are darker than the antiwar lyrics, if you can believe it. .
Yep the label didn’t want the name Walpurgis because it sounded too satanic but they also didn’t allow War Pigs to be the name of the album because it was too inflammatory.
Welcome to Black Sabbath, Ladies. With the original lineup, every song is unique, and has a specific message or story. They are the primordial metal ooze that all other bands crawled out of. The Creators of Metal. It's funny how these beasts (Bill Ward, Zeppelin's Bonham and a rare few others) were the architects of what heavy rock or metal drumming actually is, and since they couldn't go to musicians institute and learn metal drumming, they all started out as jazz drummers - and it shows.

War Pigs lyrics - studio
Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerer of death's construction
In the fields, the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh lord, yeah!
Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor, yeah
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!
Now in darkness, world stops turning
Ashes where their bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing, spreads his wings
Oh lord, yeah!
