    The MX Master 3S uses the same wheel as MX Anywhere 3S do, which I have used for a few days already.
    I've chosed the Anywhere version because I do not need a horizontal scroll wheel, since I'm used to shifting for making horizontal scroll, and because of a size.
    The gestures are implemented better in a Mac Mouse Fix app, which works with all mice, except for Logi ones, if you have installed the app, because that one intercepts the mouse input.
    In fact, the gestures are not implemented good at all with Logi. It is hard to explain why exactly, but in short - they do not feel natural. Maybe because the mouse is locking a cursor position when doing gestures despite you actually moving the mouse, which causes a dissonance.
    In any case, after using the Anywhere 3S mouse for a few days, my impression is that It doesn't add much for me.
    It feels worse in gestures and scrolling compared to Apple Magic Mouse.
    It feels worse in gestures and scrolling compared to generic Logitech office mouse with Mac Scroll Fix app. Has less useful gestures too.
    The smooth scrolling option does not what you expect. It does not simulate the smooth scrolling of a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad.
    But allows for even more granular scroll between ratchet clicks, which is annoying because whatever you scroll shakes when you place your finger on a wheel.
    It does not do kinetic scrolling as you can do with touch gestures or Mac Scroll Fix on a regular wheel. The electromagnetic wheel can simulate this by sending a lot of by-pixel scrolls when you flick the wheel, but this is a hack, rather inconvenient.
    The electromagnetic wheel also does not allow for 1 line scroll per 1 ratcher click or any other number of lines, because it scrolls in pixels.
    This kind of scrolling cannot be changed no matter which sensitivity you set.
    The macOS settings for number of lines per 1 ratchet click is completely ignored.
    This breaks how games work with mouse wheel completely.
    I do one ratchet click but instead of switching to the next or previous item the game scrolls across a few of them. Every time the different amount somehow.
    The Logic app breaks how mice interacts with Mac Scroll Fix. Anything related to scroll does not work.
    And the sensitivity is kinda weird.
    I have been able to match it somewhat to what I get with magic mouse by setting a 450dpi value on a mouse.
    Which is weird, since Magic Mouse has 1300 dpi. Have no idea why this is, but in the macOS the same pointer speed is set, which is actually a multiplier for DPI.
    As for this moment, Anywhere 3S, which is a smaller version of MX Master 3S is underperforming for me.
    I feel better with a generic mouse with a descrete scroll wheel or with Magic Mouse,
    The only difference which made things better for me is that the wheel is physical and there is a second physical button, which Magic Mouse does not have.
    So yeah... Kinda not what I've expected.

      Really good point with the gesture stuff. I agree it's a little odd when you use the gesture but the cursor locks.
      The scroll has definitely been updated but it's interesting what you say about how much it scrolls. It's worth checking again but now you can add smooth scroll and also use that with or without the ratchet. Not sure how it'll act in a game as I don't use it for that but it's definitely smoother now when enabled compared to how it acted when I first got it.
      Overall it's really the shape of the mouse I like. Like you said, if it had the touch controls for gesture it would be perfect!

    Purchased this for ergonomic reasons. Hand cramping with Apple mouse and charging has become annoying. Crazy because I’ve had it for like 8 years. Should’ve switched earlier.

      Yeah same. When I got the Magic Mouse I remember it hurting my wrist then I learned the claw technique but that certainly only reduced the strain, not avoiding it.
      I think it’s a good idea using ANY mouse that’s more ergonomic. Shame there’s not something that uses the touch gestures like the apple mouse though.

      To problem, glad it helped 👌🏻 depending on your hand size and if you even have any discomfort or not on your current mouse then the Logitech could be worth it but might not be essential. I do really enjoy mine now and definitely more comfortable, but I did learn to live with the Magic Mouse and the gestures still beat most other non magic mice out there.

    Thanks for the review! Just wanted to know if the mouse felt choppy compared to the regular mac touchpad. A few weeks ago I bought my mx 3s (the regular version, not "for mac") and it felt notably slow and choppy. Apparently, it is a common issue when 3s feels laggy while connected via bluetooth to mac (like it runs on a 90hz polling rate while the screen is on 120hz). So I wanted to know if it only pertains to the regular 3s version or the "for mac" as well. Will be really grateful to hear from you!

      99% of the time no I have no issues, and I use all those on Bluetooth. I do, on very very rare occasions have everything disconnect and reconnect. It’s everything though so I’m not sure if that’s a Mac thing or Bluetooth. But it’s so rare and so instant it’s not really a problem.
      I have experienced issues with my Apple Magic Mouse strange lag and jitters but I was in an enclosed space, right next to a WiFi router etc and that caused issues.

    I lost my magic mouse yesterday. The main disadvantage to it is it won't run when plugged in. My hand is small. But after finally getting it on, I tried to find out how to use the buttons. Switching between desktops is more difficult with the MX 3S. I didn't even notice the gesture button! I'm trying to find apps that use the buttons. And I haven't been able to find out the equivalent of a one-finger sliding my magic mouse over a mail preview to delete it.

    • @harrisonmudge
      @harrisonmudge  20 днів тому +1

      Yeah I agree nothing quite matches the gestures on the Magic Mouse. On the MX Master 3S the horizontal scroll usually works to mimic the delete swipe in a lot of apps but it’s definitely not as graceful. I always feel it takes a little over one scroll with the thumb so not quite as slick. Definitely more comfortable for those with larger hands though

    • @harrisonmudge
      @harrisonmudge  4 місяці тому

      So I've been doing more digging and I did actually find it in the settings but it's not what I would have expected. With the Logitech mouse connected, under mouse settings on the Mac, there's an "Advanced" button. Click that and you'll have the option to enable or disable "Pointer Acceleration".
      What's really surprising though is that that setting, at least for me, is ALREADY ON!!! So it is actually doing it! Just no where near as much as the Magic Mouse does it. If you turn it off the Logitech is even more sensitive 😅
      To dial it in you may need to tweak the Tracking speed as mine was on Fast (all the way to the right) so the acceleration isn't as noticeable. If you dial the tracking speed back the sense of acceleration is more noticeable.
      My Mac OS is on Sonoma FYI.
      Hopefully this helps you bud 👌🏻

    I still have to search for the thumb button when I want to press it. Other buttons are natural. I can't decide which style of vertical scrolling I prefer.

    • @harrisonmudge
      @harrisonmudge  19 днів тому

      my thumb sits bang on so I don't have that isse. Interestingly it's developed a slight indent where the button is so that helps me feel for it. Scrolling wise, I have the natural scroll turned on now but I keep the 'ratchet' magnet turned on. The wheel spins way too freely without it and I tend to knock it or rest a finger on it so the ratchet stops it from accidentally scrolling.

When I was in a previous office I used to be in a narrow space and right next to a WiFi router. My Magic Mouse used to jitter and lag. Not all the time but there was often interference and very frequent. I then tried moving to a different space, further away from the router and in a more open area and it solved the issue!

I can't speak for Mac OS - I have just ordered a Macbook Pro M2 Pro as when I looked into it, its a much better laptop than any of the Windows laptops. Because Logitech won’t update their software (it simply just crashes everytime it’s loaded), you have to buy a 3rd party software to unlock the ability to customize. Because of this, it’s a $50 mouse, at best….more people need to realize this.
