When I put the vinegar and water in the reservoir, I will actually hit "brew" as if making coffee. When a bit of the vinegar finally reaches my cup, I lift the lever so that it stops everything and now all the hot vinegar water is inside the internal tubing. I let it sit for 15. Then, I put the lever back down so it continues to brew and empty into my cup. Gives more time in the internal mechanisms to really remove the mineral deposits.

I use a kitchen scrub buddy foam sponge with a handle (The one with the round head) to get the gunk out of the area under the cup you popped out at 3:51. That area gets filthy too. Small pipe cleaners or those tiny straw cleaning pipettes work in lieu of a paperclip. Also, don't forget to turn off the machine before you remove the water container from the machine. You run the risk of tripping the internal safety switch. I learned this from Keurig. Great video!

I drink the most coffee at work so I am the designated Keurig machine cleaner. I simply brew using pure vinegar and then several cycles of water but now I'll give it a more thorough cleaning.
There are a lot of different Keurig machines, which descale differently. I do happen to have one of these as well, which is different from the Supreme, so I am glad to have found this video. And the the 15 minutes sitting inside the coffee maker is a great idea. Thanks for that one, RoosterShooter.
Thanks for this video, you get right to the point and offer helpful tips. I watched a few videos before yours that had loud music and a bunch of chit chat, yours was very professional.

Using water that has gone through a reverse osmosis filter system takes out much of the minerals that cause the scale buildup. Most groceries stores sell this water in bulk. We have found that there is no scale buildup on the Keurig as that is the only water we use. We do have to clean the parts of the machine where the coffee get processed and exits the machine. Nice video thanks for the advice.
The small cup that pops out and holds the coffee pods actually comes apart into two separate parts and should be separated to clean too. Just twist to turn and it unlocks. Also run a q-tip inside the cup to get between the ridges to removes the coffee grunge that builds up. :)
An important note. It's essential that you allow the vinegar and water solution to sit INSIDE the Coffee maker for a minimum of 15 minutes prior to running another cycle. That does not mean the "Water Reservoir", but rather, the inside tank of the coffee maker that heats the water up. We have extremely hard water where we live, and the vinegar/water solution must stay inside the machine, on the heating element, for a minimum of 15 minutes before flushing the rest of the solution through. Allowing it to sit enables the vinegar to break down the deposits on the element and in the lines.
If you sprinkle some baking soda in the sink, not only do you clean the drains and disposal, you can see if there are any bubbles, there is still trace vinegar.

Yes, the cleaning doesn't take long, but - whoa - rinsing the vinegar mixture out of the machine until no trace of vinegar took a long time and I'm sure you're right, it took a couple gallons of water. A slow process. I feel better sensing that the internal components are cleaner, but I couldn't detect any changes to that effect.
The secret is using bottled (or filtered) water in your Keurig for all your coffee. If you use tap water there tend to be traces of minerals, iron, sulfur, manganese, whatever is in your water where you live and that can cause a sediment build up that the vinegar will break down.
The bottom of the water tank has a small valve that can get clogged. Remember to scrub it with the vinegar and press it up over the sink to see if it needs a paper clip to remove minerals. The one leading into the machine can also get dust or pet hair in it, which is why I use a pitcher to pour water into the reservoir instead of removing it to fill. There is also a bottom needle that pierces the cup which needs a paper clip cleaning
Since the tank never fully empties, you should at least dump out the water if it has been sitting there a few days. Mine smells moldy if I don't do that. I have been to houses where they never ever remove the tank, and there is brown slime growing in the tank that affects the flavor of the coffee.

LOL. Thanks. As a business owner I appreciate efficiency and effectiveness as well. Our business motto is "Work Smart Not Hard". And that requires constant common sense. When hiring employees I set up three to four triggers during the interview that alert me if the potential hire has common sense. If they do, I can work with them.
Very good video and easy to understand. But you forgot a thing: You unplugged the machine by pulling the cord. This could, with rime, break wires internally and eventually prevent the machine from working. If it breaks partially, the cord could overheat and cause a fire hazard. So, NEVER pull the cord. Pull the plug !
For home owners: if you occasionally run a cup of hot water, or hit rinse button to yor cup, then toss. That flushes it so it doesn't clog. Also remove kcup when done. Dont leave it in there. We had a problem with it clogging. Doesnt clog now.
I looked at several other videos on cleaning the K cup Machine and your was the best because we have the same model. Ours was dispensing from other than the spout and making a mess if you had a normal size cup. Took only a few minutes to fix that part! Now I won’t buy a new machine. .
Great job thanks for sharing. I have had mine n the basement for a couple years now lol. I didnt even think about running several gallons thru it. Wow. I feel stupid lol. Thanks again.
Kureg slim: power off, press 8 oz and 12 oz buttons until descale light is solid (not blinking), then press K button each cupful til cleaning solution has run thru repeat with rclear water. The descale message will automatically turn off.
Thank you for showing us I do do this quite often like you said but I’m still having trouble for some reason it’s coming out very very slow. It’s making the coffee but it’s taking a long time for it to come out I’m on my third one what is there anything else I can do, to get it to work better. Thank you very much Patty From Chicago.
What I had go do once, is I had to unplug it, take the water tank off, remove the coffee mug base too, and (this sounds strange, I know) I had to turn it upside down over my kitchen sink, and whack the bottom of the keurig like your spanking a babies bottom. It’s kind of heavy - be careful!! Whack it hard a few times.....run your water/vinegar mixture thru it. Sometimes there’s buildup that gets stuck in the hoses. I saw a video on youtube that suggested to do that. I was desperate to try anything and low and behold, it worked!!!! I got another couple years out of it! Hope it helps!!! Oh, I’m from Lansing, IL....southside chicago 💙
Interestingly Keurig told me to only use white vinegar I do clean my Keurig like you do as well🤔The removal of water lines is very important to do I only hand wash my Keurig and it does makes a better clean smooth cup of water
2:00 Only two types of water filtration or purification systems can remove minerals from water- they are distillation and reverse osmosis. Most all bottled water contains minerals or even added minerals for flavor. Distilled water does not contain minerals.
I like to dump some baking soda in the drain before I pour down the hot vinegar down there. Anytime I can clean two things at once I'm happy! Thanks for the brerakdown, I've been missing some spots that never occurred to me!
Thank you, from one cleaner to another . Got a Keurig maker for a bday gift. K. Machine for da cave. For Me...Tbone (Moi!) Will put those tips to good use.🇨🇦😘
I have the exact same model as shown in the video. Mine is 6 yrs old and I use nothing but distilled water. It has no mineral additives and I've never had an issue with my machine.
After watching this video, This is way to much work an maintenance to keep up, As I know this is a great coffee maker, But is not for me, Thank you for all you information on it. God bless you 🙏.
The big secret to a Keurig coffee machine that is virtually maintenance free - is to use filtered or distilled water in it. Once you remove the minerals from the water you don't have any sediment building up around the inner workings of the unit.
This is great if we have the same model of Keurig. I was stunned that you told people to use bottled water in their Keurigs, that is so bad for the environment! I use a Zero Water pitcher for coffee, pets, drinking, etc., and that works really well - no mineral build up. Thanks for the video - looking forward to watching many more!
Hi I have a question I have the exact coffee maker n for some reason I’m just getting a half off cup of water I don’t know what to do.I’m trying clean it but no luck 🙏🙏🙏
You can put the machine in the sink sans the removable parts, lift the lid, spray everything down with 409 or equivalent, and rinse it off with the sink sprayer being careful not to get the LCD or touchscreen wet. works great and quick. Won't hurt electronics if you don't soak the screen.
Thanks for the tip. What do you run through the machine to clean out the internal parts of the machine or are you just talking about cleaning the outside of it?
Good catch. It is a mini trash bin for empty tea bags, coffee pods, etc. We have 10 employees that work here and it helps keep the coffee bar area clean.
I liked how you get right to it without too much talk. My only question is that you specified purchasing an OXO kitchen cleaning brush, but then you didn’t use it in the video ... what is it for?
The OXO Deep Cleaning Brushes amzn.to/333590D I use for everything. On a Keurig, I would use it to clean the floor of the water tray, the inside of the drip tray, and the inside of the cup or pod holder.
Ângela Thank you so much for sharing all this for free. Any ideas how to clean the stove top parts when easy off does not do the job anymore? Thank you so much
No, the filter is not needed because your RO system duplicates it, but to a higher level. Most RO systems have a 5 micron sediment prefilter followed by a cellulose triacetate membrane, and finally, an activated charcoal post filter. The sediment filter removes sediment larger than 5 microns. The membrane removes charged ions (minerals) and all organics that are larger than 200 molecular weight. The charcoal filter removes all organics smaller than 200 molecular weight - including the disinfectants that your municipal water system adds. Your coffee system filter is a combination of sediment & carbon. It will work, but is not as effective. It also needs to be replaced at regular intervals.
I personally think it’s only necessary if your coffee starts to taste funny or if your machine is acting up. I’ve had my machine for 4 years and I have only had to clean it twice but my family uses it everyday and for more then coffee. I have a keurig 2.0 and there’s a little tray that also needs to be removed and cleaned that some of these videos don’t show.
Last year I purchased a large Keurig coffee machine at Christmas. After 6 months the machine stopped working properly. The machine would either dispense two much water or not enough. I did use the Keurig cleaning solution and tried vinegar to clean the machine . To no avail did either of these things work. After only 6 months of use the coffee pot had to be thrown away. This yr I purchased the mini Keurig. Do you have any instructions to cleaning this machine.
Thanks so much for watching my video. I found some information at this website: support.keurig.com Good luck and I hope you can find what you need here.
Angela - do you sell those cute (and practical) little cleaning brushes? or should I look on Amazon? Also, my (bought used) Keurig machine is not removing the deposits fast enough for me; been working on it 30 minutes already; the descale light is not shutting off, and I've banged (lightly) on the machine several times throughout the cleaning process trying to remove (by force perhaps) the long-standing mineral deposits. Now I'll try leaving the vinegar (50/50) to sit inside the machine for 15-20 minutes like one poster suggested. Then I'll throw it out the window like another poster said. But thanks, truly, for "here's hoping."
To clean the hard-to-reach reset button at the bottom of a Keurig coffee maker, you can use a toothbrush, a pipe cleaner, a specialized cleaning tool, or compressed air. Be gentle and take your time, and you should be able to effectively clean the button and surrounding area. Hope this helps.
Straight cleaning vinegar is a pH of 2.5 so it's very acidic. Vinegar is to always be used in moderation and on a Keurig machine with plastic parts and rubber seals, a diluted version would be best.
They could be clogged, or they could be old. I know that some of the early Keurig coffee machines are being replaced now due to wearing out. If you have a hand held steamer you could safely steam the buttons to loosen up any build-up and then with a Q-tip clean any residue. If the residue is inside the unit itself, a small appliance repair shop may be able to unclog them. The catch is that if you take it to a small repair shop, it may cost you as much to have it taken apart and cleaned as it would to get a new unit.
my kurig seems to be blocked before it even gets near the end of the tubing. probably blocked at the start of the tubing as the clean water goes right back into the resevoir. how do i find the clog and clear it?
Hi Marla, this is one of those times where I would contact the manufacturer. They would be able to pull up the exact model of your machine and give you specific advice so it's still under warranty. Lots of times the blocking of the clean water comes from mineral deposits that have built up - from using tap water, which is why we recommend using filtered or distilled water in the coffee - and cleaning.
I just purchased a new Keurig pot/pod machine and the instructions say not to use distilled water. Do you know why? I thought distilled was the most pure form of water and would be better?
Lake Girl - They don't recommend distilled water because it won't make good tasting coffee even though it would be easier on the coffee maker. Water needs to have some mineral content to properly extract coffee. I would recommend looking at this video from James Hoffman who I think is very good at explaining how coffee works. ua-cam.com/video/jfElZfrmlRs/v-deo.html

Nuking your sponges for 2 minutes daily will keep them fresh & clean! Simply run hot water over them & squeeze out. Then place in a bowl w/ enough water to cover them, & microwave for 2, even 3 min every day or two!
So the 2 cup vinegar/ 2 cup water solution... did you just let that sit, then add more water, or run that 4 cups of liquid through the machine then add more water?
Hi. I am so late to respond! Sorry! I just let the vinegar & water run through to flush out the machine, then plain water to flush out any traces of vinegar. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching!! 😊🤗
I do this once a month - but that's with only 3 people using it. I fill the tank with 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar. Run it through 3 FULL tanks with the vinegar, clean the tank and the pod container and run through 2 full tanks to make sure all of the vinegar has gone through. You'll know if there's still vinegar in the machine because any dairy that you put in your coffee will curdle. Also, we use the reusable pods and buy cans of coffee. I put the pods and the pod holder in a cup and pour the cycled vinegar water over them to clean/soak.
Not at all. Some of my staff have tried it and said there was no vinegar after taste. You might have to try it yourself. Let me know if it works out for you.

LOL.
You are so right! Good eye and thanks for the reminder!
Yes, I always pull by the 🔌 but I do get lazy and pull the cord sometimes.
I have noticed lately that my Kuerig is looking a little icky. I am going to try and clean it this weekend. Thank you for sharing!
Please do! Keep me posted and let me know how it goes. :-)
The small dental brushes that go between teeth are great for getting spaces like where you used the paper clip.
Thank you for sharing your tip. And thanks for watching the video. 🙂
That's what I use.

For home owners: if you occasionally run a cup of hot water, or hit rinse button to yor cup, then toss. That flushes it so it doesn't clog. Also remove kcup when done. Dont leave it in there. We had a problem with it clogging. Doesnt clog now.
Thank you for sharing your tips!
I looked at several other videos on cleaning the K cup Machine and your was the best because we have the same model. Ours was dispensing from other than the spout and making a mess if you had a normal size cup. Took only a few minutes to fix that part! Now I won’t buy a new machine. .
This is so awesome! Thank you so much for sharing your feedback!😊
Great job thanks for sharing. I have had mine n the basement for a couple years now lol. I didnt even think about running several gallons thru it. Wow. I feel stupid lol. Thanks again.
Thanks for your feedback and thank you for watching the video.🙂
Kureg slim: power off, press 8 oz and 12 oz buttons until descale light is solid (not blinking), then press K button each cupful til cleaning solution has run thru repeat with rclear water. The descale message will automatically turn off.
Thank you for sharing this info!
You're welcome Patty! Thanks for your feedback and thank you for watching the video. 🙂

Mine is different than the one you are cleaning. All I have is buttons on side and round thing catch coffee drips still clean the way you doing
Glad it was still helpful! 😊
Interestingly Keurig told me to only use white vinegar I do clean my Keurig like you do as well🤔The removal of water lines is very important to do I only hand wash my Keurig and it does makes a better clean smooth cup of water
Great tip. Thanks for sharing. :-)
New sub here .I'm a cleaning professional! Great tips! Alot of these I do as well
Thanks for subbing! It's great to have you here. 👏👏👏
2:00 Only two types of water filtration or purification systems can remove minerals from water- they are distillation and reverse osmosis. Most all bottled water contains minerals or even added minerals for flavor. Distilled water does not contain minerals.
Thank you for sharing this information👍
I like to dump some baking soda in the drain before I pour down the hot vinegar down there. Anytime I can clean two things at once I'm happy! Thanks for the brerakdown, I've been missing some spots that never occurred to me!
You're welcome! Thank you for sharing your tip and for watching the video. 😊
Angela Stewart What a great idea!! Thank you for sharing! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Excellent instruction
Glad you think so, thanks for watching!
I have the exact same model as shown in the video. Mine is 6 yrs old and I use nothing but distilled water. It has no mineral additives and I've never had an issue with my machine.
That's great! Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Drs. Say no to distilled for drinking.
But hey, what do they know?
Is this really Monica from Friends? Thanks for showing us how to do this!
Hahaha...now that's funny! Thanks for watching the video. 😄
LOL. Thanks for watching. :-)
Great demonstration
Thank you!
Awesome video! Thanks for the tips!!
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
The piece that holds the Kcup comes apart too for cleaning.
Good to know!
Thank you so very much for this video. I am glad I found it.
You are welcome, glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much! Finally got my baby working 😃
Hooray! I am so happy to hear this great news. Was it just clogged or was it something else?
@@AskAngelaBrown just clogged real good 🙂
Awesome....how did you get so smart?
Awww, thanks! I’ve been in the cleaning business for a long time and cleaned a lot of appliances. 😊
Thanks Angela!
You're so welcome. 💛
Hello just discovered your videos. Love them.
Thank you so much for your feedback. Feel free to share the video. Sending hugs. 🤗
🎉🎉so amazing 🙏🙂
I appreciate your kind words!
After watching this video,
This is way to much work an maintenance to keep up,
As I know this is a great coffee maker,
But is not for me,
Thank you for all you information on it.
Great tip! Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching.
Hi I have a question I have the exact coffee maker n for some reason I’m just getting a half off cup of water I don’t know what to do.I’m trying clean it but
no luck 🙏🙏🙏
You can put the machine in the sink sans the removable parts, lift the lid, spray everything down with 409 or equivalent, and rinse it off with the sink sprayer being careful not to get the LCD or touchscreen wet. works great and quick. Won't hurt electronics if you don't soak the screen.
Thanks for the tip. What do you run through the machine to clean out the internal parts of the machine or are you just talking about cleaning the outside of it?
Use Distilled water in your Keurig you hardly ever have to clean your pot unless you have a bad pod which does happen.
Thanks for sharing your tip!
I noticed in your coffee center an empty jar on the left. What is that for?
Good catch. It is a mini trash bin for empty tea bags, coffee pods, etc. We have 10 employees that work here and it helps keep the coffee bar area clean.
THANKS YOU GOODNESS 🌟❤️🖤💚🤎 FAMILY DAPHNE COTTON ALWAYS 💜
You're welcome! And thank you for watching the video. 🙂
Thank you so much
Lucilene, Thanks so much for reaching out. What type of stove do you have?
Great video. Simple way to clean.
Glad you think so! Thank you for your feedback and thanks for watching. 🙂
Ours came with a filter for the tank. Is it necessary to use it if using reverse osmosis water?
I hope someone answers your question, I was about to ask the exact thing
@@sharimctiver8952 Thanks for answering Shari! Is running vinegar through the system necessary when we're using reverse osmosis water?
I personally think it’s only necessary if your coffee starts to taste funny or if your machine is acting up. I’ve had my machine for 4 years and I have only had to clean it twice but my family uses it everyday and for more then coffee. I have a keurig 2.0 and there’s a little tray that also needs to be removed and cleaned that some of these videos don’t show.
Check out the Keurig website for tips on water recommendations: support.keurig.com/?page=shell&shell=homepage&homepage=homepage-answers
I found some information at this website: support.keurig.com
Good luck and I hope you can find what you need here.
Buy your Keurig from Bed Bath and Beyond and keep the receipt. If anything goes wrong within a year, they will replace it for free!!
How do you clean the bottom of the reset that you can’t reach?
To clean the hard-to-reach reset button at the bottom of a Keurig coffee maker, you can use a toothbrush, a pipe cleaner, a specialized cleaning tool, or compressed air. Be gentle and take your time, and you should be able to effectively clean the button and surrounding area. Hope this helps.
Another vid said to use straight vinegar. That would seem to really disinfect but wondering if it is too hard the unit??
Straight cleaning vinegar is a pH of 2.5 so it's very acidic. Vinegar is to always be used in moderation and on a Keurig machine with plastic parts and rubber seals, a diluted version would be best.
Cool need to do mine get it ready for my new coffee station. 👍🏾
You’ll have to update me on how it turns out : )
The buttons on my kurig are getting difficult to press--large, Med, small cup buttons) Do you have a suggestion for cleaning/loosening them up? Thanks
@@AskAngelaBrown thank you. It is older so I probably will replace it.
This is great! I subscribed to your channel!
+Kris Gauthier thank you so much. I am delighted. Welcome! 👍
Thank you! Will this work for descaling?
The vinegar helps with the descaling. Thanks for watching my video : )
Great help!!! Excellent! Thank you!!!
YAY! I'm so glad you found it useful. Keep me posted and let me know if you clean yours. :-)
my kurig seems to be blocked before it even gets near the end of the tubing. probably blocked at the start of the tubing as the clean water goes right back into the resevoir. how do i find the clog and clear it?
Hi Marla, this is one of those times where I would contact the manufacturer. They would be able to pull up the exact model of your machine and give you specific advice so it's still under warranty. Lots of times the blocking of the clean water comes from mineral deposits that have built up - from using tap water, which is why we recommend using filtered or distilled water in the coffee - and cleaning.
I just purchased a new Keurig pot/pod machine and the instructions say not to use distilled water. Do you know why? I thought distilled was the most pure form of water and would be better?
Hmmm, not sure of the answer to that. I recommend you call Keurig to confirm the correct type of water to use. Thanks for writing in : )
Lake Girl - They don't recommend distilled water because it won't make good tasting coffee even though it would be easier on the coffee maker. Water needs to have some mineral content to properly extract coffee. I would recommend looking at this video from James Hoffman who I think is very good at explaining how coffee works. ua-cam.com/video/jfElZfrmlRs/v-deo.html
Great review!!!!!
Thanks! It's great to have you here. I appreciate your feedback. 😄
HELLO,
I USED THE ACTUAL CLEANER GOT FROM BED BATH AND BEYOND. DID THE PROCESS AND DID IT AFTER 3 MONTHS.
AFTER FINISHED STILL FLASHING "DESCALE".
CAN YOU GIVE ME A CLUE TO GET RID OF THIS SHOWING DESCALE. ASSUME I DID IT RIGHT.
LAST TIME HAD NO ISSUES.
THANKS 🙏😊😊😊😊.

Hello. I am so late to respond, I am sorry! Hopefully you got this issues resolved! I appreciate you watching! 😊
I like to pour the vinegar water over the sink sponge. The hot vinegar water gets the stink out 👍🏼😁
Thank you for your feedback. 🙂
Nuking your sponges for 2 minutes daily will keep them fresh & clean! Simply run hot water over them & squeeze out. Then place in a bowl w/ enough water to cover them, & microwave for 2, even 3 min every day or two!
Very calm voice! Thank you!
YES....thank you. Very nice voice, but I'm lazy.....I just throw it away and get a new one.
Very good video.
Thank you very much! I appreciate your kind words. 😍
I use litmus paper to test the water to make sure all the vinegar is gone.
NICE! Great way to do this. :-)
Can I use apple cider vinegar?
I do this once a month - but that's with only 3 people using it. I fill the tank with 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar. Run it through 3 FULL tanks with the vinegar, clean the tank and the pod container and run through 2 full tanks to make sure all of the vinegar has gone through. You'll know if there's still vinegar in the machine because any dairy that you put in your coffee will curdle. Also, we use the reusable pods and buy cans of coffee. I put the pods and the pod holder in a cup and pour the cycled vinegar water over them to clean/soak.
Kudos to you!🙌 Thanks for sharing your cleaning routine. 😊
Ive heard using the vinegar makes everything taste funky no matter how many times you flush the system. Any truth to that?
Not at all. Some of my staff have tried it and said there was no vinegar after taste. You might have to try it yourself. Let me know if it works out for you.
Not at all, just run fresh water thru after the vinegar 4 or 5 times to really rinse it
