An hour and 11odd minutes has never gone by so fast!!! What a wonderful video this is! I love both your incites and knowledge and style! I could have listened to another 10 watches each! Bravo!!!!
I found this channel 7 days ago and in that time have gone from 2 watches to 4. One of them a Seiko, of course! Always enjoyed watches but have a whole new appreciation after finding The Urban Gentry. Thank you TGV!
Note: When I took my seriously-vintage Seiko 6139 Chrono out to Seiko in NJ for service early this year (yes, barely pre-COVID), the front of the building had the Grand Seiko signage prominently displayed out front. Not saying they're all set to handle that $7k GMT, but I think that indicates their seriousness about promoting GS stateside. (Sadly, I can only stretch as far as maybe upper-end Presage, but I can deal.) Glad to see you and Marc together again - my two favorite people in the watch world.
I've had my eye on a Casio Duro for several years. I never pulled the trigger on it, but when I notice last week that Casio was offering it with a blue dial and bezel (Marks #10 choice) , I ordered it from Amazon. It is just beautiful and such a value. No regrets.
I always enjoy it when you have Marc on the channel. He's a great guy and I've purchased a couple of the Islander watches from him, which I'm thoroughly enjoying.
Thank you so much, TGV, for doing this with Marc. I hope and trust you and Marc are both well. I truly love your longer videos; this one is excellent as always. Hi TGV. Great video with lots of food for thought. Quick question; there is a screen shot at 1.11.19 of the new Fortis Flieger collection. One features a blue dial but I can't seem to find it on their website. Could anyone give me a link to that model please? Thanks
Thank you for the loyal support, that truly is what keeps the channel going. Onwards and upwards my friend. Here's to another 3 years! Best regards, TGV
I pre-ordered the Casio G-Shock GMS5600-1 and love it. It's more my size than my DW5600 and with the metal case and thinner profile, I could wear it to the office without it looking like a workout watch. The only negative: the reverse display can be difficult to read in low light. However, the backlight remedies that problem.
So happy to see that Dan Henry made the list. I bought the 1964 with the black dial and white subdials "Evil Panda" version this past year. Absolutely love the vintage look. I believe that Dan Henry was spot on in capturing that look and feel. I own about a half dozen late 50's and early 60's vintage pieces: Omega, Croton, Gruen, Lord Elgin, Bulova and a Longines/Wittnauer. Other than the fact that the Dan Henry is shiny and new, it fits right along side.
A very entertaining chat. I hope you two keep getting together for more of these. My fav release of 2020, aka I-wish-I-had-one, is the Norqain Independence 20. Gorgeous.
After looking on Fortis' website & on Watchbuys, I want the new flieger. Now I torn, 39 or 41? TGV we seem to have similar sized wrists, your thoughts?

I was employed at Carl’s Diamond Brokerage / Carl’s fine Jewelry where I became a Watch addict! Wonderful video and discussion! Thoroughly Enjoyed!
TGV! I received two working WW2 Swiss watches today. a Mulfi and a Lunesa. Found them as a bargain... the radium in the Lunesa one still works.. so thrilled... then you uploaded a new video. What a day. PS: Love the Hugo Intros, especially after that ... um... caffafle in Philadelphia
A great compilation of watches for 2020. I, like Marc, appreciate his affinity for white dials. The ones in porcelain are amazing, such depth and richness. Keep more videos like this coming. All the best. - RKL
This site has such great content and these vids with Marc are excellent. I've watched so many videos about watches, getting closer and closer to the rabbit hole on so many models, some of them quite pricey (and trying not to be "influenced"), but this video drew me to the "bezel-less" Seiko 5 which I bought and like so much that it could even be my grail watch at less than US$200!
Another interesting and informative video. Been watching your videos for a number of months now, rekindling my love of watches from my youth. Now just to decide what watch to go for, so many options! Keep up the great work.
During the last couple of weeks I´m getting a ton of advertising tweets from Longines and although it´s repetitive I just can´t bring myself to block or mute them, because the pieces are so beautiful.
Haha, I don't blame you! Thank you Klaus, beautiful pieces indeed. It's been a while, I hope this finds you well. Stay safe my friend. Best regards, TGV
backed the Yema this morning, getting a Steel-Bronze and a GMT! probably going to get a Grey Steel-Bronze but torn between the Blue and Black GMTs. i feel like the Blue dial + bezel is too much with the bronze, but i also kinda love it... leaning towards Black, though, because i feel like it'll remain classic and will be more wearable. thoughts?

46:25 From what I understand, Yema "developed" the movement in France, assembles it in France, but is made in Asia somewhere... Not necessarily a bad thing, especially considering the price. My bet is they took a base of a Chinese version of a 2824, made some improvements and tightened the quality control... The watch does look nice indeed...
Thanks so much for the content guys. I'm new to watches and I love how you go into so much detail yet it's still in layman's terms. It took me hours to finish it as I kept looking up the watches you introduced to us! Role on the next video.....
Thanks for this extended conversation! I'm inspired to put on my 1961 Seamaster De Ville this morning. Has either of you been to Basel or one of these international shows?
I think my favorite of 2020 so far has been the yellow dial Oyster Perpetual. I love yellow and as much as I love the dive watch look, that yellow really gets me going.
I really like the expertise you both showcase in these videos, and you both are such enthusiast of horology that it really shows clear as daylight. I like that you are two very different persons, with different tastes but you present unconditional admiration for each others picks. You have to be a legit watch nerd to understand that you don't really have to look for ways where you can separate yourself from others who love this same thing we might call horology, but that we all are able to find and share joy and make conversation and learn from each other. On the totally subjective negative side, I always feel like Marc isn't really comfortable. He doesn't seem like he wants to be there, he really isn't very charismatic, or maybe that just comes from the fact that TGV oozes charisma and joy, and you can just tell that every moment spent on screen is a moment he loves being in. There's quite a bit of contrast. And having said that, there's still a good dynamic forming between the two, and if Marc can get a bit more relaxed and comfortable, it will be even better, and it is already pretty good. So all in all, I like watching these, keep them coming, and maybe next time have Marc drink something before the recording :D
Got to say, whilst I initially hated the idea of a 41mm Sub, now I own a 41.5 Orient Ray I think that might be my guilty new favourite! One of those aspirational watches, I think.
My two favorite horologists and watch aficionados teaming up again. Great content as usual! BTW, Marc is killing it lately with his Islander watches. Undoubtedly one of the best values in the entire watch world. I just ordered one of his ISL-054 "Explorer" (or perhaps Sinn 556) type models.
Remember that Hamilton khaki H70455733 you recommended in your under 300 video and another video? Well the price has gone up to £465 now so I'm wondering if you still think it's good value?
WOW, that is price hike! Then again, the same seems to be happening all over. Ok, so, short answer yes. It is worth it IMO. Great watch, great design/history/quality, it's just great! So go for it, but to save some $$$, get one used if you can. Thank you, happy hunting. Best regards, TGV
@@theurbangentry great, that's all I need to know. Love your channel and keep doing your thing. hopefully going to grab one soon. I saw some used ones but they got some battle scars on the glass and sadly, I'd like to have my own scars on It if It has to have some ha. Ps. My gf hates that I use the word 'ghastly' and I told her it's your fault.
My favorite of 2020 was the Seiko SZSJ005, a 12 hour mecaquartz chronograph with a very pretty black and cream dial reminiscent of the classic Daytona. It was a JDM only release, made in collaboration with Nano Universe, a fashion boutique, which is the only place you could buy it. It sold for JPY 27500 and they're all gone now. I managed to get my hands on one straight from the source through a Japanese buying service and it's one of my prized pieces now.
It's been a raining depressing day in England today - I put on my James Bond Swatch (Living Daylights), as everything looked cloudy. Wearing this fun, childish watch cheered me up no end. With this watch, I wasn't taking myself, or anything else seriously - and it lifted my mood. Anyone else have a watch they wear to drive the blues away?
I loved seeing you too together again. I think you guys should do this a few times a year. Great job! My grail watch this year is the Seiko Marine Master by the way.
So looking forward to this, TGV...just finished a long trip and headed home. Definitely looking forward to the show. The intro was excellent. Thanks in advance as always! Good to see Marc as well.
I have some expensive watches but almost never wear them. I work outside and my current daily watch is a G-Shock GW2310 Atomic Solar. I love it for usefulness but the band sucks. Do you have any tricks to keep the rubber end of the band holder from sliding off 5 times a day? I've been thinking about putting hot glue spots or tying some parachute cord to make a stop. It's got a locking clasp, but the loose end of the band always pops out (usually when I'm sleeping.) This has been a problem for many G-Shock watches I've worn over the years. I don't care if it looks good, it just has to be rubber or other non-absorbent material. I can't be the only guy with this problem. I wear a watch 24/7. I swim, shower and occasionally do some snorkeling. I don't dive much deeper than about 3 meters. I have a Rolex, Tag and some Patek gold thing I've never worn that was passed down; it just doesn't look right on my wrist, (I'll pass it down one day.) I just want my watch to be accurate, solar powered and easy to read.
I maintain my suggestion do a video where you guys try to choose the best 3 watches money can buy. In another words, imagine that you can only select 3 watches for you life and you have an infinite budget, what do you guys would choose and why. Great video guys
Oh come on! That 3 blue sub dial El Primero is so beautiful and I JUST bought a watch and said it was my last of 2020...you're killing me showing me a watch I hadn't seen!
What a nice chat between watch lovers! You both are beautiful people! The A.P. 15000 dollars, has the little blued hands inside the horizontal sub dials, off center, which made me lough, because I was telling somebody my Seiko dial is misaligned and he told me it's because it's a "cheap" watch... Gorgeous timepieces! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Great video! I like the long conversation format that is packed with good insights. Good subject for a long video. This add variety and balance well the short videos. The intro with Hugo was cool. Keep them coming. Another hit by TGV.
Loved watching this, guys! Entertaining and informative and the badinage is so genuine. I thought it was amazing that you spanned the spectrum from Duros to Breguets. More of this please!
Enjoyed the video guys. My pick for this year was the Seiko SARX069 LE. It is an homage to The Crown Chronograph of 1964 that was a single pusher stop watch. For this homage they replaced the pusher with a date but kept the dial very true to form and upgraded the bi-directional bezel to steel from plastic while maintaining the exact same appearance. I have one on my wrist as I write this and the dial has very much a Grand Seiko vibe.
You guys got chemistry.

Especially in black!
Ray raven 2!
@@mystic48209 I have that one its awesome
Best regards,
TGV
@@theurbangentry great, that's all I need to know. Love your channel and keep doing your thing. hopefully going to grab one soon.
I saw some used ones but they got some battle scars on the glass and sadly, I'd like to have my own scars on It if It has to have some ha.
Ps. My gf hates that I use the word 'ghastly' and I told her it's your fault.
Excellent watches Hamilton but agree has to be your own battle scares.
I was really impressed that Tag did the 39mm TAG HEUER CARRERA anniversary edition. Silver dial, in house movement, 100m water resistance too!
The most exciting hour I have spent for a long time. Thank you both!!! Do it again soon.
This should be the genesis of a podcast! Would totally love to play this on my long runs. Fantastic job TGV and Marc, really appreciate it!!
Damn Hugo's got some bad ass connections!
😂
I love the fact that I can love both my Rolex and my Casio equally and don't have to be snobby about either
This is great! I enjoy watching you two just chatting it up about watches.
I loved seeing you too together again. I think you guys should do this a few times a year. Great job! My grail watch this year is the Seiko Marine Master by the way.
My favorite watch of 2020 so far is the Seiko Tequila Sunrise Cocktail time. Beautiful watch. Honestly, all the new cocktail times are awesome.
that Micro Machines sticker on the Mac! I used to play with those a lot as a kid!
Fantastic video TGV, great to see marc back on the channel!
Best,
Ben A
So looking forward to this, TGV...just finished a long trip and headed home. Definitely looking forward to the show. The intro was excellent. Thanks in advance as always! Good to see Marc as well.
So happy to hear, thank you!
Have a safe journey home.
Best regards,
TGV
Thanks for the video, since you are a Tudor and Omega fan, what are your thoughts on Pelagos vs Seamaster? Would you do a review?
Marc stocks Damasko...you gotta review one TGV, they're immense...best watch I've ever owned.
I thought one hour was gonna be too long, but soon realized it was not long enough. Great collaboration you two.
I have both the black and the blue Cascio Duro. Love those watches, my favorite!
I maintain my suggestion do a video where you guys try to choose the best 3 watches money can buy. In another words, imagine that you can only select 3 watches for you life and you have an infinite budget, what do you guys would choose and why. Great video guys
LOVE that idea, I will certainly suggest it to Marc,
Thank you Carlos, great thinking my friend.
Best regards,
TGV
By the way @@theurbangentry I'm really missing one of those video about being a gentleman and where you talk about everything but watches
Oh come on! That 3 blue sub dial El Primero is so beautiful and I JUST bought a watch and said it was my last of 2020...you're killing me showing me a watch I hadn't seen!
Haha!!! Tell me about it. Life is short, might as well right?!?!?
You have excellent taste Clyde, thank you.
Best regards,
TGV
What a nice chat between watch lovers! You both are beautiful people! The A.P. 15000 dollars, has the little blued hands inside the horizontal sub dials, off center, which made me lough, because I was telling somebody my Seiko dial is misaligned and he told me it's because it's a "cheap" watch... Gorgeous timepieces! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Great video! I like the long conversation format that is packed with good insights. Good subject for a long video. This add variety and balance well the short videos. The intro with Hugo was cool. Keep them coming. Another hit by TGV.
Bravo TGV!! These conversations with Marc are fantastic!! Thank you 🙌
That Longines is art on a wrist but the Zenith is a sight to behold .
Loved watching this, guys! Entertaining and informative and the badinage is so genuine. I thought it was amazing that you spanned the spectrum from Duros to Breguets. More of this please!
Yes please. Every month, you are great together.
It's great to feel like part of the conversation. Cheers TGV, cheers Marc.
