- Today I'm joined once again by the legendary and knowledgeable Marc from Long Island Watch for a brand new #watchtalk episode.
Following my recent review of the Rolex Batgirl and comparison to my own GMT-Master II (check the latest uploads on The Urban Gentry UA-cam channel for that video!) today we share our top 10 more affordable options from $500 to $5000 on the market in 2021.
We also discuss what makes a watch a true GMT, compared to dual-time and world timer watches, and how a GMT differs from a UTC. So if you're looking for a watch to tell multiple time zones, then this fun Watch Talk video is for you!

I like the math here:
90% of history +90% of engineering = 200% most interesting watch enthusiast videos ! 👌😎
Always enjoy you two together; some of my favorite relatively affordable GMT's that have peaked my interest lately: the Seiko Sharp Edged GMT series, Mido's Ocean Star GMT, Squale's Tropic GMT, Zelos Horizon GMT and Vaer just released a new GMT, oh and last but def not least, Christopher Ward's C63 Sealander GMT
These collaborative videos with TGV and Islander Marc are the best on YT. I absolutely adore the passion for history you ,TGV, have and the technical knowledge that Marc has. I own a Lorier Hydra SII and absolutely luv it. Their GMT looks absolutely amazing and I hope to have one someday. Again, awesome video!
I always enjoy the conversations between you and Marc, they are fun and light hearted plus I get a lot of watch info that I would not normally get anywhere else.
I was almost concerned for Mark's well being, not seeing him on this channel at the end of this month lol. Good to see you gentlemen :)
Great series! I love how you guys just are having such a good time!
Great vid guys. Some of your choices definitely on my radar. Great that you both approach the hobby from different view points, but with the same passion. A very enjoyable hour.
I picked up a Laco Frankfurt a few months ago, and in my collection that includes a Bremont MBII GMT, a Tudor Pelagos, and a Yema Superman, the Laco gets by far the most wrist time 🤷🏾♂️. It’s an excellent piece, but for some very odd reason has not been reviewed much since it’s release a couple of years ago. Concerning Yema, I’m truly befuddled by the feedback I’ve seen online and that you’ve given. I got mine about a year ago and the buying process was excellent. It got shipped out to me and arrived in a week without any issues. I haven’t have any issues with mine yet (touch wood), but thanks to the Laco, I haven’t been wearing it much 😆. As usual, great video guys… I could listen and watch you guys talk about watches for hours on end 😊👍🏾.
Glad to see more youtubers calling out Yema’s customer service opportunities. Hopefully this opens their eyes and allows them to make the necessary changes.
I wonder if this is a US- specific problem as I have had a lot of experience with the Yema QC in Europe and here they are a 5/5 with quick responses and takes care of everything better than I could imagine. If I have a problem they are open 24/7 and they have fixed any problem I have had with my numerous Yema watches.
@Mats Lundgren, I live in the U.S. and I’m 3 for 3 with Yema. Not a single problem, fantastic watches. They even helped me out on my first order when I forgot to put my 15% off code in and they took care of it. I’m gonna continue to buy from them.
I've heard that Citizens after sales is poor also. I've not had any issues personally and love my watch. It's great that these things can be brought to the publics attention, and hopefully these companies can address the issues raised as customer service is a must when spending a lot of money on an item, whether a watch, a camera a car or whatever it is.
@@TheSavagederek I think the cost difference between a Citizen and a Yema is the biggest difference here. If I’m paying multiple thousands of dollars, I expect pretty darn good customer service. If I’m paying $100-$300, I am fully aware that the customer service (especially with big brands) may not be the best
@@matslundgren1632 What type of watch " problems" would those be?
Just what I needed. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show 🥃
A great way to close out my Friday. Thanks very much guys, excellent episode from two of my favorite watch guys. Have a great weekend.
What a great couple of guys. Can listen to you two for hours. So interesting and in topic
Always love the chemistry when you two get together. Props to Marc for mentioning the SUN025! I sourced mine from Macy’s of all places; they were letting their remaining stock go at less than $300 I recall and it is a solid piece of kit. Keeping the movement energized requires discipline. Usually a couple of times a month I wear it while I get my treadmill workout in and that does the trick.
Perhaps you could do an episode where you mention obscure and little-known brands that have caught your interest?
Hi TGV, thank you first and foremost as this was exactly the type of episode I was looking for. As for Yema, Besançon is pronunced 'Beh zan son'. The c with the little 5 underneath it makes the c a soft sound.
I was typing right as Marc figured out the pronunciation for Farer. Great catch on that, and on the Roché pun! Great episode, gentlemen; many stunning choices.
I prefer the videos you do yourself, but I am always glad to see a new one on the channel. Keep up the good work!
Somehow I start watching these videos and then they're over and an hour has passed. Great work, guys! Riveting.
It could be because they last an hour.
So far my experience with Yema has been great! I ordered a LE Navygraf and the process was great. I wanted to pick the numbering on the case and they easily accommodated my request. I wear it every day.
Wow it was a free UTC/GMT watch and learn episode built into this. You boys are amazing 💪
TGV! I recently managed to get a Seiko SSB295P1 at a ridiculous price on Amazon and had to tell how good this watch is for the price. This is a masterpiece for the price! Mecha-Quartz movement, Dauphine Hands, 1hr Chrono, Grand Seiko style dial and a brilliant size. Much love, Marc.
Time to settle into a Friday night with TGV and Marc! Thank you for the awesome content to both of you 🙂
As an Airline Pilot, I found this video helpful as I look for a good GMT for work. Thank you and keep doing great work.
Interested to find out what watches you wear?
@@sonofachef1470 , Laco with a B dial for now
Agree with your #1 (Lorier Hyperion)! I own this watch and love it. Ended up mounting a jubilee bracelet on it and the look is perfect. The vintage vibe but modern build is simply awesome.
Love these. My wife and I listen to these when we go to sleep sometimes. She loves both of your laughs.
Loved this one guys! Great info from Marc on the UTC! And what was a true GMT!!!!
Great choices from both you guys! I’ve heard of the poor customer CARE! from Yema to!
May put me off buying one! Still have not got a GMT watch in the collection! It just maybe one of these!;) all the best T
That’s why you need to pick Lip rather than Yema ;) the superior besancon brand .
You should get a Lorier
@@rainappleby got a Gemini!;)
Excellent video with interesting picks and lots of great technical info. On the luxury side of the spectrum, the Grand Seiko SBGM221 is an absolute stunner. A future (if not current) classic in the GMT space.
Great intro music , viewing for this evening sorted 😀 thanks guys.
Great vid. I've just bought a Christopher Ward c63 Sealander GMT. I love it to bits
Agreed enjoyed all of it. Love watching you guys!
This is one man I will always ensure I give a thumb's up to.....anyone who can transmit his/her passion and appreciation in such a way that a passing observer to the hobby can be captivated deserves both credit and support. TGV manages to both inform and entertain without ever being snobbish or a bore. Now...on with the video!
👅 🍩
Mark you have smashed it with your selection, i love the Laco and Sinn, very tempted.
Love it love it love it, my two favorite watch channels combined. What else could you want? Can't wait for your next one. Cheers.
Happy to see you mention Glycine - I bought a Combat Automatic last year when the prices seemed to drop so low - now the prices are back up and the watch I bought last year is selling for $1000 more than I bought it for. I can't figure out what is happening with them in terms of pricing, but my Glycine has become my go to watch and I'd be happy to have more than one in my collection.
Love these videos! Thanks so much to you both.
Love your differing perspectives, ftom TGV's horology/history to Mark's practical/ engineering views. Perfect combination 👏
You’re intro is freaking awesome. Best intro ever! Great video as usual. Love these with Marc 😁
Awesome video and I learned a lot!
Just purchased an Omega World Timer from my local AD and it’s stunning in person!
Thank you for the education. I like GMT watches but I don't seem to gravitate to them. This opened my eyes to some new possibilities. Excellent work as always.
The two of you together are some of my favorite UA-cam videos!!
Awesome timing, buckle up and enjoy the show! Keep these coming, nice addition for a Friday night. 👍 forgot to mention just picked up my first Sinn, fancied the bigger UX my only quartz and it’s truly a stunning piece. I can feel an Sinn addiction coming on 😂. All the best
Had to comment TGV. I just acquired the Farer Roché (Worldtimer) and thanks to you, all I can now think of is the Ambassador's Reception! Thanks a bunch to you and Marc!
Great vid gentlemen. You guys play of each other very well. For me, I absolutely love the history of the watches but the technical aspects run a close second.
Good evening TGV, great video together with Marc. Been travelling a bit lately, so this topic always is a hot one. Great choices you present, that go include the might GMT Master and goes beyond. Have a great evening!
Thank you Heiko, I hope you had a good trip.
Have a great evening and weekend too!
Best regards,
TGV
Gentlemen, thank you for doing this series! The only GMT I own is the Benarus GMT World Diver (I have the Blue GMT hand 43/50) it was gifted to me many years ago and still runs great and after ten years of owning it the Lume is still excellent. Hopefully one day I'll add another GMT to my collection, perhaps the Tudor Pepsi GMT...
Always love see you two collaborate. Nice one👍
The Glycine Airman is an obvious no-brainer in that list. And the purist option is really a great feature !
Sinn is delivering so much quality and features like no other. I love the UTC hand that could be hidden under the hour hand. 😎👌
On my side I would pick the Seiko Presage Sharp Edged GMT for the dial and the movement as ’real-traveller-GMT’,
Or the Christopher Ward c63 Sealander GMT as ’office-GMT’: you can’t beat it for the money (just released in a beautiful distressed green) and then
For a dual time zone, it would be the Baltic Aquascaphe SB01, as the name suggests a 12h steel bezel.
Well, as a joker/bonus, I would pick the Omega Aqua Terra worldtimer ’cause it’s just amazing. The design, the engineering, movement, quality,... 🤩
Unfortunately in the 2 yrs since this came out the Sinn prices have gone up a lot. Same with Nomos. Just can’t justify the price; would rather buy another Tudor - hoping they have some great new offerings in 2024.
Great video, I love the dichotomy of the heritage perspective versus the technical. I was sure you were going to give Seiko Astron an honourable mention... 😊
Just bought a Laco Frankfurt from Mark at Long Island, of course. I have bought 6 or 7 watches there. Customer Care is excellet! Thanks for another excellent video and as always for keeping it positive.
I love these videos with you and Marc! Thank you.
I absolutely adore these collaborations between you gentlemen
Thanx TGV and Marc.... Great conversation! 🥃🥃🥃
I hit 👍 before I even watched, love the videos you do together!
Brilliant. Love these discussions.
Nice discussion fellas. Love the Fortis mention, great brand. I’ve got 2 of them. That Triple GMT is very appealing.
Mark and TGV in the house! Happy Friday to me! Can't wait to watch this tonight! Cheers brothers!
I loved this video! Great job you guys! Hope all is well. Cheers!
great video as always and information as always
This is my favorite complication and I look forward to watching this episode! Thanks for taking the time, TGV. Best-David
I also have a SUN063, modified it to a bidirectional bezel and the insert is a 24hr one. Love that it's on here!
Just wanted to say how happy I was to see the Airman. I've been looking forward to it since the Pilot Watch video.
Thank you gentlemen, GMT is my favorite complication. And I really liked how Mark and you explained what a true GMT is and the difference to a two time zone watch and a worldtimer. I just bought a GS SBGE201 this year, my grail GMT, but sure I liked your suggestions and unfortunately but predictable they sparked the wish for maybe “one” more watch;)
This is the best series on youtube. please continue making them!
Great video, thank you 🙏
Perfect. Kettle on. Cuppa tea, feet up. Enjoy the chat. Good to hear the PPD joining in, like the good ol' days .
Good work fellas
Love your vids. Very informative, especially the true definition of GMT vs dual time.
How about the Casio world time watches (Casio Royale et al) as truely affordable world time/GMT watches?🤩👍
I think 2 brands which would also be nice to review are the Christopher Ward C60 Anthropocene GMT and Norquain Neverest GMT, both beautiful watches. Great job gents, loving the series. Ciao
These gentlemen are American treasures. Thank you for the wisdom of watches i learn fton watching your channel TGV and Mark. Your store is a beautiful thing and so are your watches . Much love from Fort Collins Co,
Always entertaining and informative.
You guys compliment each other perfectly!
Very enjoyable.
Great collaboration, as always. Perfect hors d'oeuvre with my Friday martini. How about top ten favorite vintage watches?
Good to see Farer come up in the conversation. While they are right out of my price range, their quality and design is so unique and interesting
Great choices, never heard of Farer either. That's a beautiful color on the dial
Just ordered the Squale GMT a few days ago, then saw this video. Love it when my purchases get justified by people I admire.
Those Squale 39s are sweet. That Lorier is awesome as well. You two are my favorite watch podcast. These are really good. For some reason UA-cam never recommended your channel until recently. Enjoyed seeing you guy's picks.
The Sinn 757 looks outstanding. I have a 103 Ti Ar that I got before Sinn added the second time zone option. Great video with lots of information! I thought the Steinhart Ocean One Vintage GMT might make an appearance!
Excellent use of Satie! Great video.
Love the soothing background music.
hey, great friday night viewing!!(besides a GMT, i've been searching for a world time watch. Ball watch has one i'm strongly considering.) thanks TGV and Mark!
YES!!! LOVE Ball watches, they would deffo be in my top 20. Exceptional quality and history, highly underrated.
I hope you go for it or at leas this video is useful.
Thank you,
Best regards
TGV
Good job guys - you make a really good duo
I learned something today with Farer !
As a next topic, what about your top 5 Seiko's ever !
Please let us hear your take on the new Bond since you have reviewed the watch. Thank you very much for your work, just live these collabs and they never get old. Just ordered a Citizen Promaster based on your review.
Dude, my Sinn 856 UTC is my favorite watch. It’s so legible and super comfortable. Perfect daily.
Always fun to see TGV and Marc do a top 10.
Well done, Gents! Thank you.
Another stellar knocked-outta-da-park video with great GMT (or Dual Time... thanks Marc!) options to consider. I particularly love the models with the ability to move just the hour hand for quick timezone adjustment. And kudos again to Marc for explaining for us the difference between GMT (a timezone) and UTC (a universal timekeeping standard). Hope I got that right. Anyway, enough "rabbiting on," here. Love your channel and all your wonderfully produced, informative and entertaining vids.
Haha, thank you sir!
Thank you so much my friend. FYI I will be replying to your email soon. I apologize about the delay, it has been a VERY busy week and I also need to figure out scheduling for next year. Talk soon and have a great weekend.
Best regards
TGV
@@theurbangentry ... Thank you for the great reply. And, no apologies owed whatsoever, sir. I know you are so very busy. At your leisure... no rush, t'all. 🙂
I like the way you guys are. Marc is real about his custom service. He (or he's staff) last week offered to replace my bracelet for a dresskx of mine cause it seemed lost in its way to denmark
great entertainment as usual, the Farer watch was a surprise for me, never heard of them before and what a bobby dazzler
These guys are like the Siskel & Ebert of watches. Yeah, I am old guy. They break down watches like a good film critic breaks down films. Love these guys.
Great show fellas!
Bought my Laco Frankfurt GMT from Sebastian at the Laco factory! Great guy and great choice Marc!
Just coming up to midnight in UK and what a great way to start the weekend. Thanks guys. In celebration of the new Bond film (and Daniel Craig’s last as 007 ☹️), maybe you could debate the ultimate 007 watch. I also really like the idea another person commented about what your ultimate design concept would be for a 2022 chronograph, diver, or field watch would be.
Good call Sir.
Sire
Thank you TGV for the caveat on the Yema watches. I respect the honesty as I had a very hard time trying to return the watch when I bought it. Worst experience I've had with any watch I've bought.
Great video as always! It’s a shame to hear so many CS issues with Yema. I bought a bronze Superman last year and it arrived on time and in great shape. But after hearing these issues with CS I’m worried for when I’ll have to send it in for servicing. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly.
Everything is funny when discussed on 'Giggle Time'. Yes, that is my new name for this co-op show! (I do love Marc's explanation in the beginning.). :)
Another terrific job sir!
Finally! Another episode! The topics just get better.
Loved the video. I would also like to add a mention to your choices, though it is not a watch you can buy brand new, but it deserves to be out there: the most underrated gmt (in terms of price) you can still find out there, the Bulova Astronaut. Vintage, dressy, tool, history piece, you name it. It has it all :). Also keep in mind the upcoming Astronaut reinterpretation from Forstner, the A-12, which for the price really offers a bang for the buck :)
Marc is one smart cookie. Funny too. Quick wit and mind. I always learn something interesting.
So true!!!!
Thank you Jo, I only wish I was as smart.
Best regards,
TGV
As usuall extremely entertaining !
Just got my first Islander. The open heart in black and I LOVE it. Retiring my Seiko V. I almost bought the Orient but decided I needed to add an Islander to my collection.
Amazing watch. Nice collection
