If Opel had put as much effort into rustproofing the car as they did into attaching the door skins, you would be much further along, LOL. Well done mate, i had to d oa very similar repair on the tops (and bottoms) of some RA28 Celica doors, and it had similar reverse curve, its bloody tricky to make that section with simple tools.
Yes, reverse curve is really challenging...I have to say that this small piece of metal was my best fabrication so far for this project.. I was pretty sure that the door skin panel would be warped as hell when full welded..I got it spot on even without any filler...
Hah, there are actually only two things that are universally good of being an adult: 1. you can buy two ice creams at once and no one will complaint about it 2. you can use your own tools as you wish
Vinkki kaikille.
Thanks for another great video. I do really enjoy each part. I liked the section on Plan A and Plan B. I also like the hour counter. Not many people realise the amount of time that goes into a proper restore. Opel certainly know how to make sure the body wasn't going to last. What are you doing about the running gear anf suspension. Are you going to restore this as well ? Keep well
Thanks for the comment. About your question, actually in my next episode I am diving also into mechanical part of the car as well.. engine, steering, suspension etc will have some slot in forthcoming episodes, bodywork being still the protagonist. I am restoring all of that...
Sorry, missed this comment. The grey is 2K epoxy primer for heavy machinery. Super strong, but also flexible, so it wont crack even if the car body is flexing...red paint is just quality rust stop paint that can be welded through. I use it for the overlapping panel seams, that need to be plug welded. Seams are still protected with epoxy when all the welds are done..
My welding machine is almost 30 years old, and perhaps not best option for thin sheet metal work...I think I am not in a position to do recommendation, I am just a novice with welding...
Hi from Oslo, what clock / counter is that, where to get ? Why do you use two different coatings, the brown and the white ? Keep up the god work, very helpfull, i am sitting in the same boat with a my Land Cruiser HJ 60. Lots of rust and bad old repairs.
Hello to Oslo.. The counter is actually my brother did to me for the project...interested? The light grey is 2K industrial epoxly, very strong and flexible paint. The red one is weld through rust agent paint, good for surfaces that are in closed contact - and weldable...It does not burn like epoxy does..
@@GT1900garage Yes, interested. When i was a apprentice in 86 to 89 we used a brown very rought "color" on every steel construktion we build as base or simple transport color, my sand blasting guy Jarle has it sometimes to, but the painter we use to work with at home says everything 1k, primer, spray, base sucks water. And than i think you used only the 2K epoxy in the beginning of your series in all the closed areas. Dont want to intrude, only looking for lessons to make my work better., and the Land Cruiser lasting a little bit longer.
There are as many opinions as there are people. I did use 2k epoxy, but that burned out leavin ash, and other residue between metal. I think it is better to have acid paint between welds and then seal the structure with flexible industrial epoxy. But i am not an expert...just rely on others comments... i will ask about the counter...
True, that is a mystery. Back then home appliances like refrigerators and washing machines built to last forever, but cars were very flimsy and rust prone.
I look forward to every single episode, you’re a real artist when it comes to metalwork!

So fu****g beautiful. You are an Inspiration. :-))))
Thanks a lot... Appreciated...
Nice job
Thanks a lot...
Great work I used to catch hell from my dad for using his wood chisel for body work
Hah, there are actually only two things that are universally good of being an adult:
1. you can buy two ice creams at once and no one will complaint about it
2. you can use your own tools as you wish
Great content and work. You are a true artist. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much 😀
Thx for the new great vid !
Pleasure to watch. Greetings !😊
Thanks for the comment.. appreciated.
Outstanding work I really enjoy your videos and admire your skill Bk
Thank you very much!
Excellent.
Many thanks!
I also just bought my sandblasting cabinet.
It is a big help at the garage when restoring anything....
encore bravo
Merci beaucoup
Good to see you back doing such epic work! When is the next episode going to be ready? 😄
Thanks for the comment.. I had a month complete break from the GT project. Hopefully next one will be ready faster..
Vinkki kaikille.
Kiitos kommentista. Itsellä kieltämättä vielä vaiheessa kunnon palovaroittimen (hälyttää talossa) asennus..
👍👍👍

Hyvä video taas kerran 👍👍
Suuret kiitokset.. Pieni tauko tallihommista piristi kummasti..

💪Thanks💪
exelent a gt video
Glad you enjoyed it. stay tuned for the next ones...
@@GT1900garage Glad to hear it's a full restore. This is a most impressive build. I do enjoy your work.
12:03 sure looks like those Plan B doors are even worse.
Ah great, Plan C for the rescue!
Yes it was 🙄
Hey, you could have asked for my sandblaster. It will be used for the second time. I would have brought it 🙂
Darn, and now you tell me....
oh je kein cm der nicht verrostet ist und die türen auch noch.....tolle arbeit...
Danke, das kommt mir natürlich schon bekannt vor... Danke für den Kommentar
I WISH I had your skill. You are very talented. What is the 2 part paint you are using on bare metal?
Sorry, missed this comment. The grey is 2K epoxy primer for heavy machinery. Super strong, but also flexible, so it wont crack even if the car body is flexing...red paint is just quality rust stop paint that can be welded through. I use it for the overlapping panel seams, that need to be plug welded. Seams are still protected with epoxy when all the welds are done..
what machine/s do you use to weld? Any you recommend? Great work as always!
Also what is the red sealer you use?

@@GT1900garage Thank you
Estava sumido
felizmente encontrado 😎
Its sad auto makers of that era didn't spend a few more buck on rust prevention. I suppose you sell more cars that way.
True, that is a mystery. Back then home appliances like refrigerators and washing machines built to last forever, but cars were very flimsy and rust prone.
