Listen to New World by Nas! He sampled this song. It’s phenomenal. I am just a white woman but old school hip hop lover. What do I know? Lol Y’all give me your feedback on the song in a react. 😊 I love when young folks react to older songs. Also, think of the times and how “Nastradamous” this was… and why he didn’t blow up. Put the puzzle pieces together. It’s even got a choir… any song is better with a choir! Also I think this Toto song is about him, learning about prejudices, and when he finally had a relationship with a black woman, it changed his entire thinking about the prejudices he was taught. Him feeling rains down in Africa I think is a sexual connotation that’s why her glasses were on the ground at the end and they were burning the history book.
Toto was made up of some of the best studio musicians in Southern California. They formed their own band and made some great songs. "Africa" is a great song in my opinion - however, I think "Rosanna" is probably their best. You guys need to hear that one. They are a lot like Chicago in many ways - transitions in rhythm, use of a wide variety of instruments, etc.
It's not that this song went unnoticed in the 80s, it had a moment. There was just so much to hear. The music scene was so huge and diverse, record labels were signing everyone. It was an amazing time, we listened to everything disco, rap, rock, new wave, grunge, heavy metal, punk.....the 80s was a musical explosion.
Something you have to know about Toto is that, they weren't just a band, but they also were a studio group, and used to work with lot of big superstars like Michael Jackson... As an example, - guitar riffs on "Beat it" were played by Steve Lukather(with red guitar on the Africa video clip). while the solo was recorded by Eddie Van Halen(from the rock band Van Halen). - "Human Nature" was composed by Steve Porcaro(keybordist of Toto) for his group, but was refused by the lead singer(Bobby Kimball), so they offered it to Quincy Jones for MJ... - Jeff Porcaro(drummer and brother of Steve) played drums on MJ's "Beat it", "Human Nature", "The Girl is mine", "the lady in my life" and "Heal the World"
Yes! Toto is so underrated in America. They sell out stadiums in Europe. They have some of the best musicians in the business. Like you are saying they are on so many artists albums, people have no idea how many iconic songs they have played on.
Wow! Thank you for sharing this. Africa and Human Nature were two of my favorite songs when I was about 5, and now I understand it's because they are related. They both have a cool breeze vibe.

Someone may have already said this, but he’s saying “I bless the rains” not “I miss the rains”. According to Wikipedia on the song - “He based the lyrics on a late night documentary with depictions of African plight and suffering. The viewing experience made a lasting impact on Paich: "It both moved and appalled me, and the pictures just wouldn't leave my head. I tried to imagine how I'd feel about it if I was there and what I'd do." Hope that helps! You guys are great!
Keep going with TOTO, great songs, Roseanna, Hold the line, I'll be over you, Without your love . All great songs that you guys might like. You guys are doing a great job, thank you for everything
Can you believe this band is not in the hall of fame? Steve Lukather is not in the Hall of fame when he's arguably one of the greatest guitarists of all time! Travesty!
You don’t hear this song, you feel it.. Brock looks like he felt it and Brandon coming in on the high notes, look like he felt it.. Always been a unique vibe, Toto’s Africa 🙌🏻
I’ve been to Kenya and it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever traveled to. My daughter lived in Malawi for a year and loved it. If you ever get the opportunity to go you won’t regret it🥰 Every time I hear the song Africa it takes me back there.
Africa is thought to be the origin of mankind. Mother country to all. To me it's a spiritual quest. He's learning what he can from books, and feels the need to go there. It almost feels like he's been there before ... there's a connection that he's missing and desires it. I'm saying this clumsily off the cuff, but that's how I interpret it. Great song❣️
No, it's the melancholy wistful musing of an ex slave trader at the outset of abolition. He laments the source of his custom, and has misty eyed dreams of sailing the middle passage with his cargo of livestock. Therefore "Africa" by Toto is RACIS
I was fortunate enough to have met TOTO in 1979 back stage at a 3 day event at the L.A. Coliseum. They are one of most talented bands of all time. Each member is a master at their craft of producing great music. Steve’s guitar playing is among the best ever.
Steve Lukather has played on so many songs besides being on Toto. He’s played with Michael Jackson, Cher, Elton John, Earth, Wind and Fire, The Tubes, Stevie Nicks, George Benson, Olivia Newton John, Asia, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs and check out Lionel Riches Running With the Night. He has a two minute solo at the end of the song that is phenomenal! And he was just warming up and they recorded him. When he told them he was ready to record, they said no were done. He played it in one take…awesome
Having gotten infatuated with Africa, the black beauty in the video is a representation of Africa itself. When an object or place is thought of as beautiful, the feminine example is used to describe it. He can't get enough as he explores all Africa holds. A compliment to the Country and Cultures of a beauty he wishes he could see in person but must look at through books and materials tv and imagination. He can even miss what he has seen on film because it was so beautiful. Inspired and Intellectual plus sophisticated , this song is special. ToTo was Dorothy's dog in the Wizaed of Oz , thus ToTo. ToTo is a great band.
My wife is South African, and every time we get off the plane and into the hire car, this is the first song I play as I am driving on the highway through the rural African villages. This song is magical!
One of my favorites ever. Absolute perfection by some of the greatest studio musicians of the 20th century. How could anyone not love it? Sort of a theme song for people like me who live to travel.
If I ever decide on going to Africa with the rest of my Nigerian family this is the song I want playing when our plane touches down on the Motherland. It's a very white but very sincere and honor-laden that makes a regal feeling of what it must be like to see Africa for the first time in one's life. Classic and original
Met 2 of my best friends deployed in Africa. This is our song and every time we hear it we remember the rainy season and everything we went through together. Absolutely a banger!
I Love that you guys are giving the other side of music a chance. You guys are AWESOME!!! TOTO has another really great song called GORGY PORGY that in my opinion is so dope. I would love to see you guys watch that. Keep doing what you are doing. ❤
This is an 80's Classic & Fun Fact; the song "New World" by Nas from the "Nastradamus" Album contains samples from this song & he made a classic out of it,Ya'll should peep it out as well it sounds Amazing
I don’t understand how you all listen to this good music and talk all the way through it. Please listen with your ears and talk after the song goes off.😳🙄🥺🙃
I grew up w/this song (I'm 53yo) & it just represented as a love song to me. ❤ I always interpreted that the man would go as far as Africa to find/save their love. Kinda like he would go anywhere & do whatever it took to save their love. I only saw the mv much later. This is one of my aunt's fav songs of all time & she's 73, I can guarantee she's never seen the mv. I'll have to ask her sometime why she loves it so much.
Toto was comprised of some of the best musicians in the business. Jeff Porcaro alone was one of the most sought after session drummers in California. Toto was a genius band on the level of Steely Dan. I love you guys...even when you question an artists motive you make me laugh because you leave all possibilities open for a change of heart. Keep up the great work!
You guys can really see Toto's musical talents on the "Rosanna" and "Hold the Line" videos. Amazing musicians that have played with Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Michael McDonald and many more.. Good reactions from all. Funny watching you let each other have it too. Keep up the good work!
I have laughed until my head hurt at you guys in this reaction …. Especially “ we don’t touch yours , you don’t touch mine “ funniest thing I have ever heard in your videos !!!! Love it all !!!
That was my favorite too. They are hilarious- that poor guy seems like he's apologizing in half the videos and them ripping on him is funny every time.
Been sick in bed for a few days and today is the first day I felt like opening my phone. So glad you guys delivered some laughs - you each bring the perfect element to a reaction and I love watching all you young men grown and learn and flourish. And fyi it’s “bless the rains down in Africa”, not miss the rains 😉
The song you heard at the gas sation might have been the Africa cover that Weezer did a couple of years ago. It got and still gets a fair amount of radio play. As for other Weezer songs, I know you guys liked ''Say it Ain't So''. One of my favorites is ''The Sweather Song'', it's just fun and ridiculous.
Hey, listen to you guys reactions all the time, i am a 77 yr old white dude, played music for 30 yrs, this song was a tribute to Africa, my best friends daughter, a great musician, played this song at her recent wedding, her husband play the drums and she played the guitar with a Beatle tribute band, as a muscian myself I was blown away, it's great song, you should be proud of this compliment to your heritage...we are not all racist..music can bring us together...surfinroy
They are some of the best with harmonies, and the technology back then meant layering tracks, or what they did do, Do it right the first time together. Some of the best studio musicians ever. A lot of records are recorded with members of Toto.
I’m new here and you guys are awesome, make me laugh and I love the way you research your songs. I was watching some of the ones that are a little older and would like to put in a request for you to react to “The Devil went Down to Georgia” by the Charlie Daniel’s Band. I think you’ll enjoy it.
Thanks for making me laugh and getting through my cancer and radiation treatments is really make me laugh. Your mom and dad should be very proud of what amazing sons they raised. Keep me laughing here in the steel city 🌆
Total banger, yes. Also, that American Dad ep is the one where Stan mistakenly-sent Steve to a refugee camp("Camp Refugee"). It was a total classic. Cool to see you're a fan of the show:)
You guys are wonderful. "Hold the Line" and "Rosanna" are also great songs. You should check them out. Heartfelt lyrics of love to "Africa" and much suffering.
TOTO = all encompassing in Spanish. These super talented dudes rolled with the placeholder name because they were so intertwined with other huge named acts from the 70’s. They started their own thing and we’re essentially a power group. The drummer and keyboard player came up with the song Africa and it was really just their love for the continent. The drummer has been on video talking about how he still his drum part for Rosanna. The Purdie shuffle. His biggest influence for drums was one of R&B/soul/funk earliest drummers. I doubt we’ll ever see another group of musicians like this in our lifetime.
So there's this guy Leo Moracchioli who does metal covers to all kinds of music and he's done a cover of this song Toto. He also covered Adele's Hello. Absolutely awesome 😎😎
FYI....Toto, in Latin definition, is defined as "All-encompassing"...Fell in love w/this band, when first heard "Hold the Line"-1977. FFWD few years & further t learned that band members were Top of the List of First Call L.A. studio musicians. In fact, they comprised majority of Boz Scaggs/Steely Dan...
😂😂😂😂 I have literally laughed until I cried @ y’all in this video. The conversation had me weak! 💀 Great way to wind down on a Monday evening along w/smoking a bowl 😜
It's a great song and there's zero disrespect in it. There's no "jungle fever" vibe -- it's a song and the brother who read the write up about it -- is correct. It still is cool to watch you lads free form chat and interact. I really enjoy your channel.❤
Toto is 🔥🔥🔥!!!! They're extraordinary musicians!! Their song, "Africa" is a classic, it's great...but their hit, "Hold The Line" is such a BANGER & so FIRE🔥🔥, it will melt your faces off!!! HOLD THE LINE. Word. To prevent the video from being blocked, pause the video & comment more. If you play artist's music & music videos too long without pausing, you'll get dinged for copyrights. Just fyi. Also, when you talk over a video, we CAN'T HEAR A THING YOU'RE SAYING!! All you're doing is making annoying noise over the video...we CAN'T hear YOU or THE VIDEO. Super frustrating. So you need to either pause & talk, or talk afterwards. No hate, just trying to help.
I was about 20 when this song came out, (62 now). It's my fav by Toto. The Cleveland show had him and his family travel to Africa , but ended up in Hawaii. This song played over the montage.
Yo that ‘Sally’ & ‘Shanequa’ remark was hilarious! Speakin of hilarious, for a laugh you should check out SNL skit wit Justin Timberlake & Jimmy Fallon, pretending to be nerdy kids wit braces in camp, & every time it’s lights out, they start singin this song.😂 They got some adlibs in too. The other big hit with this group was ‘Rosanna’, you might wanna check out. On a somber note R.P. drummer Jeff Porcarro, who was a widely in demand studio cat, & was layin down serious funk on Michael McDonald’s I Keep Forgettin, which was also sampled by Nate Dogg & Warren G.
One interesting side note is all these guys played on Michael Jackson's Thriller songs like beat it and they wrote the song Human nature..these guys were on hundreds of hit records
Been to Nigeria, Kenya, Johannesburg South Africa...because that's where WE ALL COME FROM!!! I am a 68 year old white woman, and chose Africa over Europe!!😎😎💋💋😎😎
Toto has some great hits. Hold the line is another good one. Please React to JOURNEY Steve Perry voice is truly amazing. He was given the name (the voice) by bon jovi. Wheel in the sky, mother father live will definitely show how angelic and powerful his voice is.
Aww I;m so happy to see you guys do this song. It has such a deep meaning for me in a special time in my life. Thanks for doing this one. You got me in my feels. Much love.
I think a lot of people who grew up in the 70's and 80's were in love with some of the landscapes of Africa that were shown on TV. Some of the most beautiful scenery and I really wanted to go there whenever I saw those shows.
Please react to Flight Of Icarus by Iron Maiden. Bruce's vocals are unbelievable in this song, well with any Maiden song. The band is incredible and I think they will blow you away. Hallowed be the name is another song to check out, but live! Bruce will blow you away with those hang times on vocals. Love your channel ✌️
I "used" to love this song growing up in the 80's. I always interpreted it as someone leaving a loved one for Africa and finding himself there. We were kind of naive in the 80's. We thought we could fix everything with a beautiful song and we were so unaware of the darkness in our own souls. Looking at it now I can see how silly we were. Better days are coming eventually.
Reupload from 2022 it got blocked hopefully this one won’t 🔥
Liv the reactions...you guys should check out Hardy/ Lainey Wilson ~ wait in the truck*
please react to michael jackson - they don’t care about us
May we please get some Little Simz on the channel probably the best rap artist outta of the UK right now.

Rosanna is so underrated. I agree it is their best.
I think Pamela and Rosanna are underrated
Their whole repertoire is underrated
Toto also produced, wrote & composed 5 songs on the Thriller album. Including "Beat it" & "Human Nature."
Rosanna was also written about Rosanna Arquette.
It totally was. I feel blessed to have lived in such a great era!
The 80’s was the peak of music, movies, television and all other forms of entertainment. Absolutely the greatest time ever to grow up.
Something you have to know about Toto is that, they weren't just a band, but they also were a studio group, and used to work with lot of big superstars like Michael Jackson...

Well, they're Afrostraighteners so they're going to analyze the absolute 💩 out of any song called Africa. Especially one recorded by White people and especially in today's CNN-torn world.

As an African....inaccuracies aside, it is one of my fav songs
Yeah... it's a great song, but I feel your dissonance. 😜
I think it’s supposed to have inaccuracies, because the person is trying to envision a world that he has never experienced himself.
He said in the beginning it was just a guess as to what Africa was like since he'd never been there. He wasn't trying to be accurate. He just thought it was a beautiful country from what he had seen on TV
It’s one of the greatest songs of history

this is a banger. I bless the rains down in Africaaaaaa 🔥🔥
Toto has a lot of hits to check out: Hold The Line, Rosanna!
My fave Toto song! SUCH a talented band! Thanks for your reaction.
You guys are just too funny. I love it.
From New Zealand, Toto is a timeless classic.
I struggle, words alone cannot express how fantastic this song is 🥲
Thanks for making me laugh and getting through my cancer and radiation treatments is really make me laugh. Your mom and dad should be very proud of what amazing sons they raised. Keep me laughing here in the steel city 🌆
💕
Love you guys, love from Portugal, I’m from the 80’s!!!
Gotta check the live version where Mike Porcaro plays a groovy bass solo at the end ❤ RIP Porcaro brothers ❤
Total banger, yes. Also, that American Dad ep is the one where Stan mistakenly-sent Steve to a refugee camp("Camp Refugee"). It was a total classic. Cool to see you're a fan of the show:)
Crazy talented group of musicians. Many groups used them in the studio to help them record their albums.
Love this song, love your reactions, and I really love how real you guys are!
YES!!! They've gotta hear Leo's version with Hannah on the accompanying vocals, an awesome take on this song. Frog leap covers are off the chain!
Love your reactions, but this has GOT to be one of my faves!!! You are all hilarious!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤣♥️
It's a great song and there's zero disrespect in it. There's no "jungle fever" vibe -- it's a song and the brother who read the write up about it -- is correct. It still is cool to watch you lads free form chat and interact. I really enjoy your channel.❤
Yes, the live experience in Johannesburg, South Africa following "Baba Mnumzane" is pure bliss.
Timothy B. Schmidt from the Eagles played the 12-string and sang backup vocals on the recording.
"Leave the weave to ME" 😆😂🤣😅 LMAO That was hilarious
To show how much this song is loved, it was listened to on You Tube over 1 Billion times!
This song played over the montage.
what a Classic 🎶🎧🎶
"Leave the weave to me!" Now that's hysterical.
I went to high school with the Pocoro brothers, Jeff and Steve. Between them they play something like 15 instruments. Crazy good musicians.
It's actually, "I bless the rains down in Africa."
Is it? I always thought it was i miss the rains
Huge Hit for them!!!
I agree! Stay with your own! God bless the African, and European people!
I just started watching you, I have a coworker that hasn't even heard of some of the iconic bands. Y'all Crack me up and I love the fire extinguisher
Aww I;m so happy to see you guys do this song. It has such a deep meaning for me in a special time in my life. Thanks for doing this one. You got me in my feels. Much love.
Same here!! All in my feels now after this one!!
I think a lot of people who grew up in the 70's and 80's were in love with some of the landscapes of Africa that were shown on TV. Some of the most beautiful scenery and I really wanted to go there whenever I saw those shows.
Awesome reaction... This record never gets old... I laughed so hard here: 6:43. :D
Happy to see you guys enjoy this song. 😊 I grew up to this song and it is beautiful. 😊
The musicianship in this song is crazy. I remember from when I was a kid. Great track. You guys are awesome. Great reactions
Beautiful! There are some amazing choir versions of this song...just voices...acapella and they snap their fingers to simulate the sound of rain 🙏
You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube, once it's out. That was hilarious. Yes!
Better days are coming eventually.
broooo green shirt is so funny. In multiple vids this man has me dying. Sorry, i don't know your guys' names.
It's good to see people from all walks appreciating real music ...too many times people after a quick payday and it does the music and injustice
"You got brains the size of walnuts." hahahahahah Brandon's funny
Still listening to Toto all these years every Day
