Love how the sword has been featured in every fromsoft game (except sekiro) and the one iteration that people remember the most was from bloodborne. Damn Ludwig was just such a good boss
It was in sekiro, the divine dragon had it.
To me it just kinda looked like a long sword with prongs, but the color scheme fit the moonlight greatsword tho

The design was just so memorable, but the lore and the character linked to this sword made it even better. It's my favorite weapon in the soulsborne series with eleonora's twinblade and the rakuyo

I wonder why they changed its color from green to blue. IMO the green colonization is one of the aspects that makes the Moonlight Greatsword iconic but I suppose one can argue that this is techniqually a different weapon judging by how it's called the Darkmoon Greatsword and uses frost as a buff which we've never seen before.
So holy moonlight sword doesn't count as well?

@@user-xv7dl4hn1d I'd say it definitely does considering it still retains it's green color and is called the Moonlight sword as opposed to Darkmoon Greatsword. Not to mention, it doesn't have any frost buff inherent to it.

@@edgelord3617 Yea I could see why. I'm not gonna lie with you though, the design just looks excellent. It quite literally looks like a culmination of every interpretation of the Moonlight Greatsword from Dark Souls to Bloodborne. The hilt looks like BB, the structure or shape of the blade looks like DS2, and it's tinted color looks like DS1/DS3.
As of now, I'm not so much digging the new changes made but maybe that might change as soon as I get my hands on it and as time goes on.

The dark variant of the Moonlight Greatsword. Instead of green, it's blue and this indicates that this weapon was built with Ranni's power.
makes me wonder if there is a normal moonlight greatsword hidden somewhere
@@CloudHiro I doubt it. What I'm saying is that this sword looks darker in contrast to the other variants.
I thought it was normally blue? Only one i vaguely remember looking green was the version in bloodborne

Bloodborne had the coolest MGS imo... this is cool too, but man I loved the Bloodborne version so much
I wonder how the moonlight greatsword suits when it's upgraded. The tree sentinel wasn't a great demonstration but that's expected when you're using a level 0 greatsword with D scaling
I heard unique weapons arent that strong at +10 compared to 25 regular ones. I got it to +10 and was doing decent damage but wish it did more in the late game areas. Plus it's ash of war is really bad (slow to activate, projectile is slow and doesn't aim very well).
@@incription idk about the first part. I'm using moonveil and it's skill has pretty much taken me through 90% of the game. I just arrived at the moonlight area (on top of the mountain) and it's the first time it's weak vut thats more because of enemy resistance against it. But the skill heavy can easily break bosses and gives you a lot of visceral attacks
At +9 with 40 int with the weapon art active its doing 600~ per hit and ripostes with the weapon art active do 2000~ damage, the projectiles also do a ton of posture damage, can stagger dragons with 4 hits to the head with it. Although damage numbers will vary a lot based on enemy restinces. One boss took 1000~ damage with a headshot with the projectile while another one took only 200~.
@@Crispierbug what was the final scaling for Darkmoon? Moonveil is D/B/B which is pretty good for a dex int build. Moonveil might be nerfed in upcoming patches because it does stupid damage. I dial wield with the ore blade and anything that bleeds, melts
@@Normandy42 D/D/B, its a pure int weapon and does mostly magic damage
Someone else mentioned in another video is that, while Moonlight Greatswords of the past have only been passed on to you from the original master, the Dark Moon Greatsword is rightly yours. And YOURE the legend that people will hear about should they inherit the sword in the future.

I'm kind of glad to see this, but also disappointed. The lack of special attacks on anything but the buffed R2 leaves much to be desired compared to Bloodborne's.
The damage also seems lackluster
@@molagboolin313 We didn't get a look at the characters stats, and it's probably +0 with no upgrades to be fair.
@@molagboolin313 Nope. I have maxed out my Dark Moon Greatsword and have slightly over 50 INT. Deals 700 damage (with Godrick's great rune active). I know people will say "But the mOOnVeIL dOeS mOrE!!" but I prefer to have at least some kind of a challenge
@@molagboolin313 I have the weapon sitting around 800 AR right now (about 50 int and 20 strength), when buffed. Definitely not the case, lol: the fully charged heavy beams hit like a truck, have good range, and do considerable stagger damage as well. Only downside is they take a pretty decent chunk of stamina
@@mingQWERTY I agree the weapon is not the best in the game but I just played with and fought a lot of bosses with it and the projectile and the weapon buff time makes it a great rewarding challenge

I have a few questions like how long does the buff last? Does it improve damage when buffed or just give the ability to shoot beams? Does the buff inflict more frost?
Around 40 seconds, yes it improves magic damage and frost build up.
The moonlight is back - great to see that its still shooting beams

Looks great! A tad bit sad there wasn't more Bloodborne inspiration when designing this ones moveset, 6 games into a recurring weapon and we're still just operating off the bones of it's OG Demon's souls/Dark souls greatsword moveset minus the awesome zoning explosion. Like I said still looks great though!

Imo no moonlight greatsword looks as good as the bloodborne one, after using it in bloodborne all of the rest feel empty and pretty "common"
I never liked the moonlight greatsword in bloodborne simply because a big greatsword, really doesn't fit asthetically with what a hunter looks like and how they typically fight. Big anime swords are more of a dark souls thing.

@@trevorveillette8415 because it is an almost ancient weapon used by ludwig in the past, a time before trick weapons made the curve. So it makes perfect sense.

My interpretation is that Ludwig originally fought with an ordinary silver claymore, possibly some sort of family heirloom, but a blessing from the moon turned it into something of a trick weapon.

The fact that this isn't called Moonlight Greatsword tells me we haven't found the real thing yet.
It very much is the mlgs, otherwise it wouldnt have the beam attack. Its the same weapon in spirit. Its not as iconic which is a little meh tbh
It’s the same sword. In Bloodborne for example it’s known as the Holy Moonlight Sword

Disappointed that it’s just the same slam animations like they have for the normal greatswords, looks like I won’t be doing the Ranni Quests after all, for the Knights Greatsword is still my best friend.

I've been reading non-stop player testimonies saying scaling (of all stats) is garbage across the board. 50 STR weapons with A scaling in STR are doing like 30 more damage or something insane. The MLGS is probably no different (assuming OP has INT investment). Best to just build HP and Stamina now.
I liked the clunky ds3 one that does the big poke attack, but this is honestly a way better way to handle it
Trading 2/3 of the moveset for +frostbite effect is... better O-o???

The moonlight sword isnt really green? Its more turquoise or bright blue like bloodborne.
