- El Gran Orgo is the third EP by American post-hardcore band At the Drive-In. It was recorded and released in 1997 without the presence of Jim Ward, whose guitar duties were filled by Ben Rodriguez and Omar Rodríguez-López, who had previously played bass on Acrobatic Tenement.
The Title "El Gran Orgo" is taken from one of the characters of the movie Santa Sangre by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Both Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala are declared fans of Jodorowsky's work.
The band have previously stated that the record company that produced this EP ripped them off and that "when you buy El Gran Orgo you do not support ATDI, you support DISHONESTY!!" link and encouraged people to download or copy it.

Dude winter month novelty is so insane. Perfect tape honestly.
If anyone is interested in where the "vampire" quote comes from during the "Intermission" track at 7:50, it's actually from a really old episode of Cops. I was watching old Cops reruns awhile back and some guy on drugs getting arrested started shouting about how he was a vampire - I knew I had heard it somewhere before and then I remembered this album haha.
+David Mitchell OHHHHHH that's where it's from!!!! Thank you! I knew it sounded familiar hahahaha
I woulda crapped myself if that happened to me because the odds of that happening must be so rare. haaa damn this ep is rare itself.
That's crazy, you realized an obscure sample from a rare EP
sweet!
Did you hear about that or saw it? Cuz it was a woman, and was drunk.
This is the first record with Paul Hinojos on bass. He is a very underrated bass player in my opinion. He creates deep and consistent bass lines, so guitars can go a little bit crazy.
Agreed! All I can say after spending months learning ATDI songs on bass is that his hands must be HUGE! He reaches all over the place in the most awkward ways but fuck does it ever sound good.
And Tony on drums
1. "Give It a Name" - 0:00
2. "Honest to a Fault" - 2:37
3. "Winter Month Novelty" - 4:07
4. "Intermission" - 7:47
5. "Fahrenheit" - 8:39
6. "Picket Fence Cartel" - 11:05
7. "Speechless" - 13:35
you are perfect
Ryan Leahy thank you for taking the time, 🤙

Does anybody else notice this EP starts off really upbeat (friendship, reunions), but ends up turning into something with fucked up themes (abuse, lies)? This thing is fucking beautiful in so many ways.
It doesn't start out up beat. It starts out with heart break and loneliness
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX Lyrically, you definitely have a point.
@@woobiehastelly Def upbeat musically. It starts out as you're typical highschool pop punk album
@@BeersAndBeatsPDX Totally!
Jim's backing screams give me reason to live. Jim was, and will always be the sauce.
Early Sparta much better
This is where their sound crystallized. I always felt there was a missing link between Acrobatic Tenement and In/Casino/Out; here it is. Once Omar took up the guitar, there was no going back. Shame this EP put the band through hell, but a far stronger unit emerged with a signature sound, cleaner production, and plenty of room for further growth.
I always thought this record sounds a bit inept because it was missing Jim Ward and the way Jim and Omar's guitars sound like they're fighting over Cedric.
@@ghin780 I agree, but I think he means he's talking about how Omar's guitar work and style had a clear influence on the direction the band took years later, and that this EP was the first glimpse into the style they would later develop, I think they meant that the change was pretty sudden without the context of this EP, and that this EP kinda creates a clear bridge and transition into their their later style.
*17 yr old me walking thru the hallways of my high school after my gf broke up with me*
This is a great EP, one of the best releases of their career. Every track is a killer and drums are great here too, simple yet powerful and energetic.
Last two tracks are SLAMMERS
Highly overlooked and underrated
Happy 20th Birthday El Gran Orgo
Yo tengo ese EP en cd, del año 97 a la venta, con su catálogo para ordenar cds por correos de la marca CARGO RECORDS
It has been an At The Drive In da y for me. A cool day.
Its always a cool day when u have classic ATDI jamming
more like a month for me
Nice album cover on your profile pic, mate
I've been listening to this exact track of El Gran Orgo for years. It's so good. So so good. One of my biggest regrets it's that I never saw this band live. It's not you, it's me.
I fell in love with these guys after they broke up but I was able to see them on their 2017 tour. One of the greatest nights of my life!
Woah! I remember back when my old account airstation828 I uploaded this, thank you so much for keeping the weird cover I made for this alive!
I love how the original cover and the title El Gran Orgo is from Santa Sangre by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Amazing movie!
Haunted X Graffiti hell yeah! also forgive my spelling, i replied this with my phone and completely disregarded the spelling O_0
@@gothsauceproductions5243 Love that film. Me and my woman, at the time.
Unmatched EP
A vinyl release is way past due
Doesn’t get any better than this
You are naughty if you bought this. Naughty naughty.
Picket fence cartel gets better every time
So true
I love this EP so much!! ☺️
Glad I got this from Audiogalaxy or Kazaa back in the file sharing days. Love this album.
This album help get me thru high school in my '85 monte carlo
It's 20 years old Toady!
What an incredible EP
IF THESE WALLS COULD SPEAK I WOULDNT TELL THEM ANYTHING DONT ASK ME DONT ASK ME
Another great upload! Thanks so much man!
The only record to feature Ben Rodriguez on guitar. To this day, the fallout between him and the rest of the band still remains a secret. All we know is after the disastrous 100 Day Tour they embarked on ended with Ben Rodriguez being sent home on a bus.
If I’m not mistaken he was kicked out for being a sociopath and convincing Julio To kill himself, unless that was someone else
@@joshuazamarron8338 That's how the rumour goes. Concertina, a song from the Tremulant EP, is supposed to be about him and Julio's suicide
@@arizonaboy1547 I also read that very recently on a supposedly quoted interview Cedric had in Leeds Cockpit (2002)
i love you come home atdi napoleon will always love you.
This EP is a masterpiece. I wished it was released on Vinyl.
What I wouldn't give to see At The Drive-In and Rise Against play a double headline set
Life makes a dancer. None like Mr.Zavala
indeed
I love this album, and shitty google play doesn't have it available for some crap reason.
+Disko Dyslexic The record company ripped them off, pirating is heavily encouraged by the band.
Angels Wear Tuxedos Yeah, I heard the band talk about them being taken advantage by labels. That's why Omar & I forget who started GSL. That label had some great bands on it too bad it's no more.
We drank ourselves to sleep cause the paper cuts hurt
playlist with links would be cool
chingón
+vgslira simón carnal.
No need to not buy it any more! ATDI own the rights on their chapter 21 label.
Then I wonder why it’s not on Spotify. I always assumed it was because of the whole bs with the label it was released on.
@@SilversteinRescue I always felt it had something to do with this being the only release during their initial career without Jim Ward on guitar, but since he wasn’t apart of the reunion there’s no excuse anymore. This is definitely one of the best releases of theirs
this is good stuff "!
WOOOOOO! first new comment in years.
N YES THIS ALBUM IS STILL THE SHIT
N appearently 6 ppl dont know what theyre talking about. 👎pshhh!
I feel like I've wandered into Warp Tour.
Gimme a name
Classic Cops episode- ( Do I scare youuuuuu!!!?? Yea you do.. I Hope sooo!! Why are you trying to scare me..? cause im gonna bite you man.... cause im hungry.. cause Im a vampire.. Im a vamp like Bat...)
Still my favorite At The Drive-In album. It was my first time hearing them, on a (literal) mix tape, and I thought they sucked. Worst band on the tape and it wasn't even close. It took me about a dozen listens to really get into it. The raw, lo-fi sound really suited them. If I turned my headphones up loud enough, it was like being in the room with them.
El granite
Are you indie or o.r
we all become what we most dislike. maybe ill see you in 20 years
Elpasssoooo
Yeah, I remember listening to this long time ago. It’s not very good. everything after this is better.
As if At the drive in made a screeching weasel record.
They were def an influence on omar. U can hear a screeching weasel riff on the VAYA EP
How did I get this emo crap looking for The Mars Volta? Yuck
At-The Drive In is the predecessor of The Mars Volta (they share the vocalist and guitarist). Try listening to their other release In/Casino/Out it's not pop-punk. Also expand your music taste bruh, you sound like a fucking stiff.
@@Chuckwearsprada also mars volta is prog garbage the sum of the parts dont equal the whole mars volta + sparta =/= ATDI
Great Mars Volta fan here. Listen to at the drive in third album "relationship of command". It's almost like a 1st mars volta album and the reason why the band split.
Easy brah I downloaded your MySpace yesterday and your profile song was Hoobastank.
Go check out De Facto live performance w Ikey / Cedric / Omar / John / Ward.
That is basically pre Mars Volta. Relationship of command flirts w that.
Well they are two different bands.
Why can’t these get streamed
