He's a total music nerd. Hell, he's a total nerd in general, but speaks in a colloquial cadence. Normal, but an extraordinary talent. I always imagined him to be cynical and nihilistic, but instead, he's joyful, spirited, and humbled. Refreshing. I'm also pausing to take notes.
I’m pretty sure he was a bit cynical and nihilistic 20+ years ago. If you watch the end of the Big Day Out performance they did, you’ll see a bit of that. But I’m glad he’s still around and seems to be in a good place, while still being a creative force.
Love how he said "it's worth a listen to, even if you hate it" if only i could get my friends and family to do this. They tend to listen to stuff that sounds like the stuff they already like, and don't like to stray outside of that, i know it shouldn't but it drives me mad.
Cuz ur a person who cant empathize. Not everyone is an audiophile, not all thinks listening to new music is anything meaningful. To some music is purely an entertainment platform. And thats their own tragedy.
Matt S id say that really hurts the talented artists that make their own sound but get less recognition because why do that when you can ride a wave, and when that trend dies out, theyll steal ideas from the underground and then they have to go make more unique music while they run the sounds they previously created to the ground by not innovating it and then repeating the process when what they stole and made a trend dies out because they werent creative enough to innovate and make the music better of different. Basically, at the end of the day, being creative gets your shit stolen and you discredited, just look at raider klan and Denzel Curry. EVERYONE uses their dark and atmospheric sounds in hip hop, yet they created it and still innovate it and make more new styles whilst the mainstream hip hop will steal their ideas, do even less with them, and run what they made a trend into the ground while the actual innovators can still use those sounds they created and futher innovate by blending genres and making something new only for it to be taken from them again because THEY are the real creators and are actually capable of breeding something new from being uncomfortable and charting new territories in music
Something that helped me get over that mentality is to just think about it in terms of a different medium. For example, I'm a suuuuper picky eater that won't eat basically anything even remotely outside of my narrow comfort zone (pretty much anything that isn't some combination of bread, "normal" meat and cheese) but I love sodas and am always eager to try weird things like PB&J or lavender soda, so while I'd never willingly eat anything outside of my narrow preference range I can still understand why people who do like a wide range of flavors and textures in their food would want to try as many new things as possible. For me eating is just a basic part of life that isn't worth getting excited about, to them it's something to be explored and experienced as much as possible. Music is the same, to a lot of us it's an engaging and active hobby with endless new experiences to discover but to many it's just a pleasant thing that they enjoy but have no interest going any further than their current preferences. Note that this doesn't mean they "don't really love music." I don't eat a lot of variety but I absolutely love the few foods that I do eat, pizza and chicken have provided countless delicious meals over the years. In just the same way that one guy we all know that still listens to nothing but early 2000s pop punk and nu metal probably loves their music just as much you love yours, they just have a narrower preference range and that's totally fine. This applies to pretty much every other field of interest in life. Games, movies, books, shows, youtube, social media, exercise, sports, conversation and just about anything else you can think of. People can have a limited interest in exploring the fringes of anything while still regularly enjoying the surface level of the medium.

If you haven't heard much krautrock, you definitely should check it out. Can, Faust, Neu!, Guru Guru, Ash Ra Tempel to name a few other bands Cedric didn't mention.
Great choices! Nice to hear the details about them, he surely must have an awesome record collection (also, first time hearing his normal voice)
thats a nice thing to hear as a german. love you guys
Really cool that he digs Sleaford Mods. Love their stuff
Cedric seems like a really nice guy and a genuine fan.

Good taste. Couple of my favorites GBV and Flamin' Groovies.
Cedric is the coolest dude ever. Growing up listening to At the Drive In and Mars Volta i always thought he had this look of some guy that says go fuck yourself, don't fuck with me, but he's nothing like that. And i'm loving what's in his bag!!!! Motor Away is one of my favorites from Alien Lanes! Dude love Carpenter! My kind of guy.
That John Carpenter's song is sampled in hiphop music. Search for "DSA Commando - Le brigate della morte", it's an italian hardcore/Horrorcore rap group. Thanks Ced!
cedric has such a deep appreciation for music history
This is what i came away with too. Great to see
I can imagine this guy and his wife went through hell with this scientology shit. He seems like such a good-hearted spirit. Thank you for your art, man.
Nice to see him warm and welcoming every time I've seen him perform he seemed so disgusted and agitated with the crowd or humanity in general
This is the best "what's in my bag"
Well Cedric, you’ve certainly helped me in on deciding which film to watch tonight… Assault on Precinct 13. Thanks for your music over the years… & great choices btw.. especially Syd.xx
He looks like my tia Carmela!
He hasn't aged well.
@@TheSilence1 Who decides what type of aging looks well and what type doesn't ... or whether any of that even matters or not.
HAHQHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
TheSilence1 he looks the same he literally just gained weight. Which most do when they’re in their 40’s and have a couple kids
@@Mossromantic One, The weight fluctuation is due to the being on and off smack. He has talked about it. Two, No most people of any age do not gain weight unless they have bad habits or a disease. That is rubbish information that has been fed to you. At 40 I should expect to be fat and unhealthy cause I had sex and made babies?
