    My father have been a LX owner for almost 30 years. He had the 1998 LX 450, 2002 LX 470, 2009 LX 570 and he currently has a 2019 LX 570 and he steel owns his old 2002 LX 470 as his back-up car. Our favorite generation has been the 2008-2011 LX 570, as the one reviewed in this video (We like as well the 2013-2015 but not as much as the 2008-2011), and our less favorite generation is the 2016-2021. The driving of the 2008-2011/2013-2015 id more feely and refined. The gen 2016-2021 Lexus added so much weight between bodykits and other stuff and it drives terrible! If I were on the market for a Lexus LX 570 I would personally buy 2008-2011 and I upgrade the cameras and put and android screen with apple car play and android auto or if you do not care about the CarPlay or android auto, I would try to get an screen of the gen 2013-2015 on eBay. It's great.

      Do you have any links or recommendations for a camera upgrade? I moved from a Rivian R1T to a 2010 LX570, and I’m honestly loving every second of it!! The only thing I miss from my Rivian was the sheer number of cameras that I had available for tight maneuvering (or mall crawling). The cameras on the 2010 LX become difficult to use where I live because there’s a lot of dust and mud that quickly gunks up the camera. I’d like to put on something at least higher resolution so that I could hopefully at least see out of the camera when it still layered with dust and gunk.

    Just got a 2009 LX 570 and this vid was a big reason why we gunned for one. The original owner replaced the hydraulic suspension for regular ones but after driving it, I don't really mind; the whole thing still rides like a dream. It's still on 30k original miles so it's practically brand new!

    Have a 2009 LX and it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. In 2013 HID headlights became standard. However the low beam on the 2008-2012 model is already in a projector housing. So adding a high quality aftermarket HID bulb kit it’s very easy. I absolutely love the understated luxury of the old early models.
    Like others have said, that is a hydraulic suspension, not air. Extremely reliable and designed to last 500k miles (not 100k like air). Fluid just needs to be flushed every 60k miles or so with Toyota AHC fluid.

  • @pavman42
    @pavman42 Рік тому +2

    So you've got a couple things wrong with your video.
    First of all, the LX has a hydraulic suspension system which is unique to North America using Toyota's ACH fluid and is commonly found in the GX & LCs in other parts of the world. This is not an air ride system which means the failure rate is much much lower and there's a 60,000 mile regular rotation of the fluid recommended but it doesn't seem necessary unless you have a problem with it which can be costly if there is a problem.
    Secondly, the engine is unique for the LX and Land Cruiser and it's only manufactured in Japan. The way they manufacture it is unique which means you can get upwards of a million miles on this engine. I bought a 2011 LX used in 2020 that had 150,000 miles and I anticipate with regular maintenance it will last 800,000+.
    Some common problems:
    Where they placed the starter tends to wear it out due to access heat, which means it will probably go bad at some point if it hasn't been replaced.
    The original radiator had a flaw that would cause a hairline crack in it; I drove about 2500 miles before I realized that I actually had a crack in my radiator with very little movement in the temperature guage.
    The water pump likewise is known to go bad but so far so good.
    I've also had a minor parts go bad like the blower motor but it's a common part found in pretty much all Toyota SUVs so it was very easy to replace.
    One last comment, this truck with Toyo Open Country III tires is amazing. It's a great truck to have if you have a three season vehicle that you use when it's not winter due to the fairly poor gas mileage it gets from ethanol blends. Unadulterated gasoline gets much better gas mileage.

    Close the sunroof shade and it is dead quiet. You don't understand the steering setup and alot of the other features. Their purpose only shines under certain conditions. It is fast not quick. The air ride lasts about six years before it needs service like replacing the spheres. Can you thrash it? Yes but only off road in snow. I replaced all my interior and exterior lighting with LEDs. What an improvement! Try it. Worst feature? Wood trim slowly starts to deform and has to be glued back into place. A speaker or two can buzz after ten years. The subwoof is in the wrong place. Knee and elbow padding is thin. Rubber door seals move about and have to be poked back in place. Glovebox is surprisingly cheap and plastic. Hard plastics squeak more than the 2009 to 2020 Nissan Frontier whose plastics were more rubbery (better). The roof rack is decorative joke. Same with the wheel center caps which crack. Steprails are delicate. Maximum cruising range is 306 miles yet gas mileage isn't bad at 13 city 19 highway. Cruising at 80 mph, I get 18 mpg as the engine spins at just 2000 rpm. 72 mph is the sweet spot where it gets 19.2 mpg. Is it best SUV? If you find yourself in the middle of nowhere with a full tank of gas, yes.

    Nice video BTW

  • @PearComputingDevices
    @PearComputingDevices Рік тому

    I would have a hard time on this but for me I would rather still stick to a Sequoia. I have one in the limited trim and it's absolutely beautiful. It's not a luxury vehicle nor does it pretend to be but what it lacks in luxury features it sure makes up for it in reliability and practical flexibility. We only have 3 in our household so the Sequoia is insanely over the top for almost anything we're doing.. almost but for camping. We love to camp. We still do tent camping but one day I want to step to a pull behind camper. Nothing crazy, maybe a 20 footer and this truck will do that and then some. We thought about going with a 4runner just because of the slighly better gas mileage but all in all the Sequoia just made more sense for our use. It's already expensive. But we got a really good deal on a '13 with only 114k. That pretty much made up our minds. That two or three MPG loss is small compared. Plus it has a leather trimmed 3rd row. If I ever wanted to take kids to school or church we've got plenty of room to go in style. Plus it's a Toyota. It's not some hohum GM or Ford product guaranteed to cost a lot down the road.

Or it could be just different biomechanics but you look like we could be distance relatives so I’m going with the former :)
    I also found if I shifted the second row as far forward as I could and still be comfortable, I could technically fit in the 3rd row.

      @@Realistick Yes, but Air ride is associated with reliability problems, e.g. Land Rovers, the Toyota system is much more reliable. That's why it's worth discriminating between the two. If you just wanted to describe it, just say adjustable.

    • @Realistick
      @Realistick  3 роки тому

      @@joneclegg Agreed, I'm just calling it adjustable unless I hear from the manufacturer themselves. While they are notorious for Air ride problems, I feel like Land Rover could make a clock unreliable so I wouldn't use LR as a reason to believe that all air rides carry a negative connotation for a reliability concern. Although Lincoln also used to have horrendous problems with it too so maybe it's more consistent than I'm thinking but I feel like some companies that use hydraulic like Mercedes have issues with adaptive hydraulics too.

      I'm not going to take offense, but you're definitely wrong. If you watch a Doug video and watch mine, the only similarity you will find is that we are in depth. But even then, we focus on different things. I place way more emphasis on film technique, audio, a cohesive narrative, and I stray away from giving cars ratings, instead, I just tell people who this car is for and who it probably isn't for. Personally, I took a little influence from RCR and Savage Geese, not Daddy Doug. If you watch both of our videos and pay attention, you'll see that.

    Engineers recommend if you lift more than 2 inches- to change the upper control arms etc. too..... do you know if most of the regular GX pars will interchange on this??? Engine same i thing- so that will- but what about other parts.

  • @davidwayne9982
    @davidwayne9982 Рік тому

    I don't like the split tailgate-- I always end up hitting my head on them- and the lift cylinders fail far too often.. It's just aggravating- right in the way all the time. i prefer a barn door on the GX.. I don't do blutooth and all the "tech" crap- so that doesn't matter to me- and I LIKE the extra back support. (got mashed between 2 trucks in 99 and need that). I agree on most of your assessment- and the points I don't agree on -- are JUST MY opinions... NOT meant to knock the vehicle in any way... oh- and if a guy is 6'5"-- ain't too many other vehicles going to give you a lot of room EITHER.. the masses are not that tall on average. You say- Just like the Sequioia-- so this compares pretty well to that too- as well as a fancier version of a GX??? Just trying to learn here- so I know which I want to get.

    I am NOt going to get in the third row seats- and NEITHER is anyone else-- I'm 66and wn't be hauling kids or anyone else.. I just like these vehicles -- and might every so often haul one or two passengers..so 4 seats is fine. I also don't really NEED the 4x4 every day-- which makes this perfect-- but I will have lockers added so it's more capable if the weather turns bad or I end up on a muddy country road--which around here is a possibility. I will also modify it-- like the GX.. if I get one.

Since I'm ex ranger- high ranking black belt in 5 arts and 40 years experience- had NO one defy me on that and come out unscathed yet!!) DID you say 5.7 V-8?? Didn't know that.. and the 6 speed sounds good. I think I'd have a high quality POWER brake system installed-- (much better braking for a vehicle like that-- NOT sure if I haave the brand name correct-- but it's a custom brake setup for larger vehicles that is GREAT..).. i would REPLACE the air ride-- don't need that.. much rather have a good strong standard suspension.. GXs are getting HARD to find a really GOOD one in!!!

    These vehicles are documented to go WELL over a MILLION miles-- the 300k is just a good breakin period-- if maintained propertly.

    I don't LIKE 20 inch rims-- looks ok with some thick tires- but I prefer 17inch on full offroad tires-- just in case..
