I get it its expensive to replace but it will last another 200k miles. PS also try to keep the JDM wheels if you can. The vehicle was designed and balanced with the wheels it came with.
If anyone is seriously thinking of getting an older LX, as I was, I suggest you look at the LX570, they started making them in 2007 and the 2007-2011 model is still good but the 2012-2015 facelift/update was a big one and that's the one I decided to go for as it had the best combination of luxury, design, modernity and price/value. I've got a 2004 LS430 and I've found that once accustomed to Lexus craftsmanship, quality, reliability and thoughtfulness of design it's very hard to be satisfied or impressed by anything else. However I am, at heart, a convertible guy, so over the years I've test driven various year models & specifications of the SC430, about 4 different times at different dealerships hoping I'd find a version satisfying enough to finally trade in and buy, unfortunately that never occurred. *However* whilst at a dealership looking at an SC430 I saw a 2012 LX570 which I took out for a test, and then a couple more tests at different dealerships and they were all excellent. I had long admired the LX570 in traffic as the rear is tall, wide & flat with 2 huge light clusters, not at all swoopy or sporty, and the side profile is similarly flat and vast, with long straight lines meeting at sharp angles, it looks both refined and uniquely imposing, especially in all 6 layers of Lexus' gorgeous Pearl White paint, which makes it look like Apple joined on with Lexus to design a dictator's personal APC. And I can attest that is also pretty much how you feel whilst driving one, like you're a leader of nations riding around in something bespoke, perpetually looking down upon those you encounter in traffic, able to see what's happening not 2 or 3 but 6 or 7 vehicles ahead letting you efficiently avoid slow drivers and any slow downs. And the vehicle's power matches this grandiosity, with an enormous 5.7L V8 making 380hp with a beautiful smooth power profile. That engine is a sophisticated modern relic, the sort manufacturers will never make again. And whilst it's already quick and powerful if you're so inclined you can even purchase Toyota Racing Development's bespoke Supercharger Kit and ECU for that engine. Which then gives it a bit over 500hp and 55lb ft of torque. Giving it an incredible amount of power, Super Car type acceleration, 0-100 in the low 4's, except you're in an enormous SUV. Additionally the interior design is much more modern than the 2007-2011 models, with more metal switches and knobs plus metallic coloured plastics, giving it a real point of differentiation internally compared to the first gen models. In 2015 they did a major overhaul which used the same platform but beside that the exterior and interior were all in effect brand new barring a couple of panels, they introduced the huge spindle grille that year too. Personally I think the LX570 lost it's character with that update, no longer imposing it looked modern, slick and frankly generic. I came close to getting a 2012 model, even did a few tests but I had to go over season for business for a 18 months and I returned just in time for Covid so I'm still in my ancient LS430. But if you're after an older LX go look at the 2012 and make sure you study the differences between the various updates/facelifts, they make a big difference.
You should keep in mind that these cars are aimed towards older buyers who may not want the most futuristic design. They just want the new thing that does the job comfortably
I'm willing to bet that new high-compression twin turbo V6 won't last even half as long as the old 4.7 or 5.7. Those turbos will be the Achilles heel of this new engine.
Toyota won’t put this engine on its 5 top cars lx600,ls500,lc300, tundra, sequoia if it’s not tested well,,btw the engine on ls500 since 2018 works fine
I’ve noticed that too, it’s probably because of the air suspension. Either that or just the reputation of the Land Cruiser name alone is demanding a premium
Same with the Lexus GX and 4Runner. I could pick up a 1st gen GX in average miles and condition for $12,000 while people are asking up to $16,000 for same condition 4th gen Toyota 4Runner.
I have a 2014 LX 570 with 77k. We drove through the Mojave trail summer time, and on Shafer Trail through a winter storm. The LX got us through all of them safely and comfortably.
I had a 2004 LX 470 for a bit over 10 years, put on 450,000 miles (bought it brand new), fixed several things but never let me down. I traded in on that mileage still running exceptionally good, great truck. That one you showed there was beat up with a lot less mileage than mine.
So fun to see another LX470 in Ontario. I appreciated the defense of the 100… I love it equally. I too have large BFG A\T tires (which throw the speed and odometer by 7% btw). And my AHC still works (🤞🏻)! Incidentally, there’s a dash button that manually extends and retracts the antenna to any desired height (for off-road driving). Also, this is spot on…. I throw lots of money to keep this thing in tip-top shape and intend to drive it for 20 more years.
wow already threw in the Will Smith Oscar’s joke.lol The older LX was actually a Toyota Landcruiser Cygnus in Japan -when they didn’t have the Lexus brand yet.
Yes, the price of the new one is ridiculous, but let's be honest, $17.5k for that LX470 is equally ridiculous. That thing shouldn't be more than $6-8k considering its condition.
My daily is a rust free 2005 LX470 with 284K on the odo. The only thing that's playing up is the speedo, everything single thing else on it is perfect. In the 70K miles I've owned it I did the timing belt and replaced a bad alternator. That's it (besides consumables). I've taken it legit off roading, camping to the boondocks and everything in between. It's the best vehicles I've ever owned. They really don't make them like that anymore. Oh, and the AHC works like a champ and spoils you. Get on a really bumpy dirt road and click it over to soft, smooth as butter. Need a little lift? Put AHC in High and you have a 2 inch lift. What's not to love?
I think it looks good and has a lot of road presence. It’s not meant to be considered a full time off reader, but a luxury vehicle that you know will work really well even if you did take it off-road.
The point of the title is made yet having a 17k plus vehicle listed as a beater could be a stretch. This means the boys are making money and going to be doing more super cars, letssss goooooo!
I'd rather have my current 2000 LX470 over this new one. Dark grey 289K, AHC suspension works great, 275/65/18 Cooper ATP. Ironman bumper and 12k winch. etc. I bought it for 13,500 USD, total with upgrades im in it for about 19K. Doug Thorley headers, Maganaflow exhaust, DBA rotors and pads, new coils, plugs, Apple car play, Pioneer touch screen, etc etc. I love it.
@emeeul the head unit is an aftermarket Pioneer touch screen with the apple car play Bluetooth. External handheld wired into head unit. Was already like that when I bought it, not two different screens,
No way, G class is smaller but quite a bit more expensive. GLS on the other hand is basically the same size, a more modern technology and more luxurious, but I guess less off-road capability. 🙃

Toyota screwed the pooch by selling LX’s against LC’s at commensurate price points. Then they wondered why so few purchased LC’s. I adore my lx470 that I got a year ago, the honeymoon period still hasn't ended and I plan to have it for a long long time. It truly does have a spirit to last and I get so many compliments on it.
Still rockin' a 98 4Runner, purchased by me in 97. 350K and going strong. Just started putting miles on a 2010 LX. Should last me until I die.

@@TheBrianFlanagan The former, not the latter!
@Martin Amazingly enough some car manufacturers used to sell "next year's model" at the end of the previous year. It's a 98 year model, purchased in 97. Some still do this. It's a marketing gimmick.
@Martin Agreed! Thanks for the follow up.
I love my vintage Lexus cars. Hands down best build quality of any of the 30 plus from multiple brands I have ever had. Folks say they don’t have a personality but they do. They are that friend who forgives you for being a mess. They’re the tireless moms and dads who are always there with a warm place to retreat to when you need it. They aren’t always the fastest or the prettiest but they really come through. Finally, they REWARD YOU for maintaining them with 30 plus years of service. What more can you ask for?

There is nothing after perfection but imperfection. This is the case for all cars. Whenever they reach the top of their comfort and quality, the shortages will be after that. Just like a human being is born a small child, then reaches youth, then returns weak and old
Unfortunately, now we miss these wonderful and powerful models, and also for a very low price compared to the new ones

My LX 470 is incredible. 246,000 miles and still charging. True campion of reliability.
The LX has been truly iconic, but I'm very reluctant to think about the twin turbo V6 replacing the bullet-proof V8.
how is the LX even iconic?
@@kristians2704 Because it's the premier luxury version of the "Toyota Land Cruiser", capable of going over 1 million miles with relatively few issues. The new ones may not be so reliable with the new engine set-up.
@@kristians2704 how is it not?
@@billrobsham697 The new ones come with a twin turbo v6 engine (not the big v8). The same engines in the new tundra are already having major malfunction in their first year.
@@barrydraper oh I know. Been studying what's been happening with the Tundra and figured they were gonna do the same engine in Lexus . too bad , The 4.7 and 5.7 v8s were legendary. That 3.5 is going to have multiple recalls before it's a solid engine
My friend's '06 LX470 which he got at 183k miles, literally & i mean literally, not exaggerating at all, feels like just came off the showroom in terms of engine & transmission. Even the hydraulics work perfectly. The only things he changed were the bushes all around, and steering wheel leather and the notorious M&L speakers. The V8 sound is simply amazing.
You cannot imagine just how popular these are in the Middle East and the UAE all the old Lexus models especially the old clean ones are very much sought after
Great episode! I love this type of comparison. I’ll take the character, reliability *and value* of an older car/truck over a new one any day.

I have the honor of owning a Lexus LX470 and I must say, " you should have drove a model with the active suspench. Its freaking AMAZING. The ability to switch from soft to hard in the flick of a real switch. That you can actually feel and switch in an instant.

Exactly the people they target for this truck
Very true
These biches sells crazy in other parts of the world
I'm willing to bet that new high-compression twin turbo V6 won't last even half as long as the old 4.7 or 5.7. Those turbos will be the Achilles heel of this new engine.
Indisputable!
The only question is "is it worth the performance and fuel efficiency gain if you have to replace them every - say - three years" ?!
Toyota won’t put this engine on its 5 top cars lx600,ls500,lc300, tundra, sequoia if it’s not tested well,,btw the engine on ls500 since 2018 works fine
The intros are my absolute favorite.
Keep up the great work!
Love it when Thomas copies James’ English pronunciation . “Chalk” Does a pretty good job too!
What's crazy is that the LX470 can be found for much less than a similar Land Cruiser... Wild.
I’ve noticed that too, it’s probably because of the air suspension. Either that or just the reputation of the Land Cruiser name alone is demanding a premium
Yep! Just bought our LX570 and it was cheaper than the comparable Land Cruiser.
cause the lc looks better.
The LX470 has a lot more things that can break. So the Toyota is more more reliable than the Lexus, strangely...
I have an ‘09 Toyota Sienna and it’s honestly amazing, never wanna give it up
If that LX470 is a “beater” than I am questioning my entire life.

The music at the beginning leading into your introduction was wicked smooth editing. My favourite so far!
If by beater you mean that it will beat the shit out of everything that gets in its way, you're damn right.
I had a 2004 LX 470 for a bit over 10 years, put on 450,000 miles (bought it brand new), fixed several things but never let me down. I traded in on that mileage still running exceptionally good, great truck. That one you showed there was beat up with a lot less mileage than mine.
Something I didn’t appreciate as much was the sound design on these videos until now. Perfect work
So fun to see another LX470 in Ontario.

They're bringing big money
My RX300 from 1998 still runs well despite the years just gotta love Toyota
Love my LX 600 F SPORT. Amazing vehicle. The 470 at the time was really cool as well. Still love the quad headlamps

The real question is, who's Jenn?
Ok, the Germans and Range Rovers are basically throwaway after the warranty ends, the LX would be my pick for the long run.
I love it.
How did you do an aftermarket screen for car play? That’s my major gripe on our ‘02, that and the fact I don’t have headers.
@emeeul the head unit is an aftermarket Pioneer touch screen with the apple car play Bluetooth. External handheld wired into head unit. Was already like that when I bought it, not two different screens,

I dont think new cars will last because the technology is integral to their basic functions and once the electrical systems fail the car is junked. Older cars have tech that fails but its just loss of convenience.
I just can't do that.
Honestly I drove both and having I owned an 03 LX470, I'm keeping my 03 till the wheels falls off 1 Million miles +. The 03 antenna can be controlled to go up or down on the cabin dash. Some day the 300 series LX will be mines if I can ever retired!

I think a lot of people forgets that the Sequoia has a multi link independent rear suspension, and not the LX live axle with coil spring. Ride quality alone, I think it could match the Lexus at a much lower price.
Old sequoia utilized multi link independent rear suspension, new sequoia use a live axle now.
@@dariuskila huh, wouldn’t that mean Toyota is intentionally putting their car at a disadvantage? Practically all of the Sequoia main competition already have IRS at this point
@@ricebox1178 that was my thought at first, but if you look online, it’ll show. Look at the 3rd row legroom in the new sequoia, that was regressive instead of progressive. The hybrid battery is also packed under there as well, but my guess is as good as yours as to why they’ve a step backwards.

Toyota screwed the pooch by selling LX’s against LC’s at commensurate price points. Then they wondered why so few purchased LC’s.
