Just bought a 2016 Lexus GX 460 and both LX and GX are known as “ million miles SUVs “ . Been researching this and saving for 5 years ! Congrats on the find .
As a loud and proud Toyota FanBoy (I own a 2016 Toyota 4Runner myself), you have an EXCELLENT vehicle on your hands. MIJ vehicles are the ONLY way to go.
Awesome video, I'm taking delivery of 2008 LX 570 Monday I'm very excited to be owning this SUV. I thought I wanted a Range Rover SC, but after test-driving the LX, I was sold on it. I think I'm going to love it and keep it as long as I can.
Same here - drove an RRS SC and did enjoy it, but it's basically a time bomb. My previous LR had $28,000 in first year repair costs. I still love them for some twisted reason but now have a 2014 LX570 and have not looked back, it's an incredibly solid vehicle.
Here’s ones of those little things that make this car nicer; for the rear passenger’s seatbelts (second and third rows), there are pieces on the pillars that can securely hold the seatbelts in place so that they don’t make and noise be it from open windows at speed or rough paths that might shake the car while driving.
Check your recirc damper. They break when dealers and/or owners don't know to put the system in recirc when changing the cabin filter. You should see it move up and down when switching between recirc and outside air. I put a warning on the cover over the filter.
Guy, your video is AWESOME! I really enjoyed hearing your comments and the details - thanks for that! I am a happy 2nd owner of an '08 GX with 235k miles and it is going strong! I recently got the itch for the LX and came across your video and oh boy do I really want one now. All the best on your travels and keep enjoying one of the best vehicles in the world.
I have the exact model, one year newer. Getting close to 200,000 miles. Wife tells me I need to get a new car. Honestly, I have no desire to get anything new. It’s a great car. I do wish at times I could squeeze out a few more miles per gallon however. 😊
Typical woman wanting something new to flaunt in front of her friends. Trade in the 570 for a more compact 2022/2023 gx460 with apple car play. More maneuverable, 360 back up cam, and the much nicer navigation through apple car play. Plus you keep all that legendary Land Cruiser (prado) reliability
This is definitely the best choice I had my 2011 for 12 years rode it to 190k miles it’ll take anything you throw at it. Broke my heart when i sold mine to upgrade to the 2019 I dont feel as confident in the 2019s 8 speed i liked the 6 speed more it felt much more responsive. Also the touchscreen and infotainment in the 2011 was much easier to navigate because its all touchscreen whereas the newer one uses that mouse like thing. My alternator & radiator went out at 150k My hydraulic suspension went out at 178k miles All my service was done with lexus/lexus certified mechanics. Other than that it was all general maintenance/ fluid changes
Just bought a 2009 LX570 yesterday, which looks exactly like your rig. I was looking for a good one for awhile as well (very hard to find). Flew from SoCal to Arizona and drove her back. Very happy with it so far.
Congrats on finding the right LX for you and your wife! I picked up a white/black 2013 a few months ago and the main feeling I get driving it is just that everything is so substantial, inside and out. I don't love the fuel economy, but I was prepared, coming from a GX. I play music as a side job, and it's great for hauling my gear, and if need be, a couple other band members' gear. If my main job wasn't remote, I would have gone a different route, but most days I burn zero fuel anyway. You're right that it should last a long time. I bought mine at 148,000 without hesitation. Enjoy that thing!
You can turn off the dropping by putting it in Neutral (height, not gear) and hitting the button OFF above that little switch. You will get an 'off' in the dash and it won't lower or raise anymore. I had a 2014 year of this, it was amazing.
@@Machinesinmotion01 can you tell what are the differences between the two? Which one would be more comfortable in terms of suspension comfort on bumps?
Great review, you nailed everything perfectly. I own probably the nicest 2008 LX 570 in the country -- or one of them. It just turned 100k in 2023 and is in mint condition. Bought it from the original owner who were an older couple that lived in Naples Fla. They maintained it meticulously. I live in Iowa but store it over the winter. They are such great vehicles and a person really needs to drive one to feel that buttery smooth transmission paired with the 5.7L V8. It's a big vehicle that stands tall but does not drive big at all because of the low belt line of the windows. Our 2022 Honda Pilot drives bigger than our LX. Thanks for the great review.
Nothing like smiling when you see a bunch of potholes coming up in the road 🤠 I wonder if your AHC is doing "extra things" as it is getting older. I love it, but sometimes I get that bad feeling when it is shifting height at a stoplight lol. I found out today that LX up until 2011 actually have a much better approach angle compared to 2013+ LX (31 vs 27 in AHC high) because of the changed front bodywork.
After driving my 100 series for a decade we got a 13 LX570 for my wife and the best analogy I can describe driving the Lexus is like driving a small, comfortable apartment. I still love it but I really prefer my LC, it just feels more sturdy all around
Great Video! I think you covered almost everything everyone should know. I purchased my 2008 with 140k miles in December 2022. Probably the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. It has such a unique charm about it that makes it such a joy to drive. I’ve since modded it quite a bit though 😅
Are you sure the front camera is broke? My 2013 requires that I push a button on the dash to activate it. There is another setting that turns it on every I slow to like 2mph, which I turned off (very annoying). Also, didn’t know about the battery tender?!?! I can’t wait to check to see if I have one in the morning. After 165k miles I’m still learning new things about it. Only 1/3 of the way through your video and can’t wait to watch the rest. So happy to find a review/experience from another normal person, not a car critique.
You might find an off the shelf camera that could fit somewhere in the front. I bought an underwater camera for $40. Not worth $400. I am sure you can find one very cheap.
Trash all those plastic covers. At 150K check for coolant leak around the radiator, the little square thing on top of the radiator also the engine valley cover starts leaking. The stereo is absolutely amazing. If you get tired of the AHC suspension you can swap it to Land Cruiser suspension
Thanks for the advice on the suspension because the wavy part of the AHC can get annoying after a while. The factor of it lowering and stuff is cool but it's not as solid in the ass as I like. I think changing that out would save us from buying globes and globe fluid and even give the rear-end more of solid feel.
Hey, if you ever thinking about upgrading your headlights with the new Lexus LED strip beams, they have aftermarket’s for those. And if you want a really nice aftermarket apple touch screen, with no installation required, let me know. I upgraded mine and it look so modern now.
Hoping for some advice. I'm considering buying 2010 lx570 w 340k. Carfax shows consistent 5k oil changes, maintenance record and been driven 7k each yr for last 8 yrs. Should I pull the trigger? FYI I'm 61 yr old grandma who wants some comfort, won't be putting many miles on it and will maintain care. Thanks for any feedback!
I agree with doing the oil change every 5 to 6000 miles but Lexus does not have a Bolton or service interval on the transmission fluid or the differential fluids ? I am planning to do the spark plugs at 120,000 miles. Mine is a 2013 with 110,000 miles most recent services. I had to do the brakes refill the air condition compression and the lines for the hydraulic suspension needed to be replaced that were cracked and were leaking…
Dude have you ever looked at minivans? I don’t know much about cars and I could sure use some input. Gonna be in the market for one soon. Love your videos!
