The way you can rotate the back of the car with confidence and good feedback is crazy in corners. I was lucky to drive a new gt3 and i always think that is the only car that is a better " drivers car ". had a manual m140 for 2 years but bmw And other german brands need to take some lessons from honda in my opinion 😂. just the entertainment system/carplay and backup camera sucks but i really dont care... 😏.
And its a car you need to drive with your head too, a german car in my opinion wil safe your ass many times if its your first performance car or hot hatch. The type r will bite your ass when you are not used to 3-400hp.
Great video. The Honda Civic Type R is really a very special car. I own a FK8 and I am never selling that car. This car is a gift to the driver enthusiast. The fact that Honda sells the Type R only as a 6 speed manual is something that should be respected.
Even though I've never driven or owned one, I keep coming back to this car. I live in an area where stick shift doesn't make sense, yet I keep looking at the car. Currently have an Elantra N on lease, but really hard to stay with this car when it's clear the Honda will hold it's value more and probably last longer.
Fun depends on what you want in a car and also the roads/weather where you live. I've owned both an 8Y RS3 and FL5 Type R and for me the RS3 is more fun more of the time. The engine is special at any speed, and while the Type R's chassis is superior you don't really get to experience that unless you're pushing the car 7/10 or above. And if there's any rain you might as well be driving a base Civic. The RS3 on the other hand is quite a bit of fun in the rain and snow - and fun to push around the track, as long as you replace the garbage stock Pirellis. But if you live somewhere sunny/dry and track your car a lot then I can see the case for FL5 - just spend some of the 10K you saved sorting out the cooling.
I was going to say just this! I've driven the 8Y and it's hard to imagine the type r being the "obvious option". I think if the 8Y came in hatch format, there really wouldn't be another choice for me on the market. That car is truly special.
It's definitely not the most drivers focused vehicle. You obviously haven't driven any others as you can't afford them. Elantra N is very fun and driver focused. RS3, M cars and I can go on and on.
No it most certainly wasn’t. Owned one and owned 2 FD2Rs from the same era. No comparison at all, on any level. Even in isolation, the FN2 was not a great Type R. Not by a long shot.
Yup I miss our 2010 one 😮 now we have an Octavia VRS 245. The Type R FN2 was good but very hard ride. The VRS is better daily- much quicker. 5 doors. Pulls effortlessly… but still miss the FN2. Off cam the FN2 is slow. On cam it’s fine. With pilot sport tyres it’s Excellent- most ppl who moan about it run rubbish tyres (go figure)… same with the VRS. Tyres make a huge difference! 😮
im a honda fan but these engines keep seeing massive oil and water temps when on track! not great for a £50k hot hatch! and especially when the FK8 which isnt that different was around £18k cheaper from the dealer new!
It's not gonna be a quite driving. As a 65 year old you'd want something comfy. This ain't that. Suspension is way too stiff for daily use. The Type S has a better suspension and looks better

For $50k you're in striking distance of a 996 with a Flat6 Innovations 4.0 stage II build. This is quite literally a gt3 analog. Theres probably money to sort out the suspension too...just a thought.
For $50K you’re also in striking distance of a C6 Z06 Corvette which will destroy a 996 in stock form. Not to mention the IMS in the 996 is still there and parts for a 911 aren’t cheap by any means either. You break something and pray it’s nothing crazy.

A Mk3 Megane RS uses a torsion beam, never hear any whinge about that... The FN2 was a great car and the FK2 took the ring record for FWD at the time. IMO their still has never been a bad Type R.
I know this car is a beast at a track but would so much nicer if it had more power. A golf R DSG will rip it from 0-150 mph, and because of the wheel hop of the Type R allot of lesser vehicles will take it stop light to stop which is sad it should be 335-355hp to be in the beast mode.
Even some basic hot hatches are £40K so I guess that is decent value. The only caveat to that was the Hyundai i20N. At half the cost it is more than half this car …. But of course they have axed it.
Nice video but I disagree with the Total number of FK8 Limited. The total number was 1.020. 600 were for the US market. And VTEC is not activated between 6.000 and 7.000 rpm on the K20C1 engine. VTEC works the other way round and helps with turbo lag. It is activated below 2.500 rpm. Above the turbo is spooling there is no need to change the valve lift above 2.500 rpm!

It oversteers and has 0 traction. I'm no civic type r fan I'm just amazed how good it is. I love porsches audis mercs alfas but this type r is really phenomenal. Also the fk8 type r was as quick as a m2 comp costing twice the price having 2 doors not 4 like the civic and having over 100 more hp. Crazy. Crazy how bad bmw is. And how good the type r is. I watched a video of a guy with a bone stock brand new broken in type r on the nurburgring passing gt3s around corners somehow. And I don't think 3 or 4 gt3 drivers would all be equally bad.
Without a NA engine, this is no budget GT3 or GT3RS. Also why spend the first 4 mins talking about the Type R history and not the FL5 itself? Why omit the FD2 Type R? Why include a 1 min sponsor in such a short video talking about the car? I laughed when he said you get VTEC between 6000 and 7000 RPM. Its more like 3400 RPM but don’t expect it to hit like a B-series or K20. you can’t really feel it change over but it helps with the breathing of the engine. Also its VTEC only on the exhaust cam...not the intake cam like the NA VTEC. This car has overheating issues on the Ring as shown by Misha Charoudin so its no budget GT3 RS which can run the Ring without issues.
GTR RS is a stretch. I'd say it's a budget rs3 at best. Mad overhyped. It's also looks more like a lift back grand tourer than a hatchback. This car is just way too long

I have a 991.2 gt3rs and the newer 992.1 gt3rs and had a type R (got it because I had an Integra type r growing up) to lull kids around. Completely different cars. Not even close. Sold the fk8 after 6 months. It's just not fun or special.

I have a 991.2 gt3rs and the newer 992.1 gt3rs and had a type R (got it because I had an Integra type r growing up) to lull kids around. Completely different cars. Not even close. Sold the fk8 after 6 months. It's just not fun or special.
