Great content! The magic of the GBA was having hours of gameplay in your pocket in a time before smart phones… even now the biggest struggle is setting aside time to enjoy a console or game series without succumbing to distractions. These videos bring back that magic.
It's so true. There are so many different things constantly battling for our attention it's hard to stay focused. Being able to simply focus really helps the enjoyment!
yeah its become a real problem for me, i used to just sit there and play DS and watch 3 hour youtube video essays, i was lucky to make it past the 2 minute mark on this one but this interested me, perhaps i should give this a try and reset my brain.
I love this video because it wasn’t just complaining about the hardware or talking about the game. It was talking about how it affects your life and decisions and the actual difficulty of the challenge. This definitely is subscribe worthy content. Please make another one!
This is more about the struggle of sticking to a one person activity while wanting to spend time with family than it is about the gameboy advance. I expected less of a vlog about random stuff and more of a vlog about what it was like to play gba and gba only, comparing it to other systems, how playing it for extended times affected your persoective, how fun it was, etc. Instead, you mainly juxtapose it with the desire to spend time with family, which just makes me as a viewer, who wanted to see this happen, feel bad. No one is asking you to refrain from spending time with family to do this challenge. The heart of the challenge sbouldnt be choosing between family time and gameboy, but between gameboy and other gaming systems. I feel like you missed the meat of what people wanted from this and it really wasnt a suitable challenge for you, since the drama became about family vs gameboy instead of focusing on what the experience of playing gameboy was like vs other and more modern systems.
I appreciate the feedback and perspective, but I think you're looking way too deep into it. The reality is that as a Dad of three pretty much everything in my life is about my kids and what see in this challenge is just the reality of that. Most of my gaming these days is dictated by what we're doing as a family, so the appeal for other consoles always comes packaged with that. None of these challenges stop me spending that time with my family, they just kind of change the approach. Bearing in mind that 30 days is summarised in 30 mins it is going to sound a lot more dramatic. These challenges are not just about how a specific console competes with other consoles, more how a retro console fits into modern day, but also into an adults life. For clarity though, in my future challenges I don't intend to include playing on other consoles with the kids as I've already covered that side of the challenge and is pointless to just repeat. Again, thanks for the great comment 👍
I have to give props to your commitment to the challenge. It would have been absolutely understandable to give in when family asks you to play together. Great work
Thanks buddy, it was difficult. In future challenges I plan to make an exception for family as I've already proved I can do that and I don't want to miss time I can't replace.

Great video, one of the easiest 30 minutes I’ve spent watching a video in a while! The GBA is so nostalgic for me, and I’m glad you got to have some fun with it. Also, you seem like a great father, and the way you weaved in real-life implications and stories was excellent. I just recently stumbled across the GBA collection I started assembling like 10 years ago, and I’m playing through everything on my GBA Micro currently. I’m playing Superstar Saga and having a blast!
Thank you mate, I genuinely appreciate your comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed the life story parts. GBA is such a fantastic console, really glad you're enjoying it!
15:20 I have the same issue too. I do play alot of retro games because it's so much fun. I learned that just floating around and thinking is a bad idea. Just grab something and start playing. Sometimes i play my ps5, or pc, but i have alot of fun with my retro stuff as well
This was such a great watch. I couldn’t imagine playing the same system for 30 days let alone almost mistakingly playing something. That would be hard because often we will be playing solo games but also coop games within the same time frame. Also congrats on the steam deck. I’ve been looking at it A LOT too. I also want the new PSVR2 so…..we will see
Thank you!! These challenges are so difficult and the downside is they can kill of spare of the moment gaming opportunities. But they still have a lot of positives. Steam Deck is soooo good!! I'd personally for that over the PSVR2

You're always welcome to the party whatever time you rock up 😉 Thanks dude, I'm really glad you enjoyed! It was so difficult avoiding the Steam Deck, lol. Just a good job it came just a few days from the end!
I really enjoy when you do these 30 days challenges and it's so cool that you did one for the GBA (though that Micro is STILL a hand killer for me and you sir, are crazy j/k). I also like knowing that you weren't all that familiar with the GBA library so this is such a great way to take a deep dive into it's impressive offerings. Oh, and kudos on avoiding the temptations of the missus with Beat Saber...though in 9 months we'll see if that's true or not. ;-) It's an awesome thing to support the interests our kids have, even if they're not in line to our own. Our kiddo adored Pokemon ages before it caught on with Laci, as well as Minecraft before either of us got into it. Speaking of--we DO want to see you back in the village... Heh, a good ol' fashion mystery cart with no label discovery. Even if it's a bad game, still a fun prospect. Very happy to hear you enjoyed Golden Sun so much. Advance Wars is a MUST on GBA isn't it? I often forget about Boktai; it seemed so interesting to me with the solar sensor; I also liked the forward thinking of being able to input your region so it didn't necessarily penalize you for living in a not-so-sunny area. Mario vs. Donkey Kong is so good--I loved that one. The kids noticing your absence of playing games with them really illustrates how awesome of a dad you are in sharing your passion with the kids--that's really, really cool man, to know that they genuinely miss that gaming time with you. Wario Land 4--yes!! LOL that SteamDeck, you sound like a handheld junkie itching for his fix. ha ha Though I get the parameters in place, you missed out with no Zelda time.
Thanks Tom! It was so interesting going into the challenge and not really knowing what was in store for me! The caliber of games though is unreal. It's right up there now with my favourite retro systems 👌 Thank you for the kind comments on my attempts at parenting 😅 so cool to hear too your kiddo has helped introduce you two to some amazing franchises. Yes I definitely need to get back into the realm when soon, lol. Haha yeah I'm starting to think I am a bit of a handheld junkie 😂 Oh and if in 9 months time we have another, I think I'll have to close the channel and officially open up Chronik Spartan Daddy Day Care 😂
@@ChronikSpartan I can’t wait for that! Maybe you could play Pokémon for that but instead of playing it normally, maybe you could make a challenge like only using your starter? But like you said in the video, if you played Pokémon you probably wouldn’t play any of the other amazing DS games.
Currently working on a gen 3 complete Pokédex. It’s fun to have something to pop open the old SP for when I have a spare 20 minutes, to always have a little goal to work towards. Plus, these old devices are so disconnected from everything else - friends lists, advertisements, sales, achievements - it’s really a breath of fresh air.
the dude is "suffering through" 30 days of what I do 2nd year already. The idea behind the challenge is simply pathetic if the guy keeps describing for 90% of the video how excited he is about that challenge, and how the chosen model - GBA SP is even his favourite one but he still want to incorporate more favourite one. It's basically a d**k type of a challenge, where the guy sounds to all of us basically like "I eat food in restaurants for 30 days, wish me good luck!".
I wish I'd never gotten rid of it in my teen yrs just for more modern console games. Now I'm recovering all that nostalgia while gaining a few SPs to mod
you really remind me of my dad :) and some of his mannerisms, especially with the kim possible part. my dad loves showing us cartoons he loved like animaniacs and looney tunes.
That's so cool! It sounds like me and your Dad would get on well, I looney tunes and animaniacs was one of my faves!! Such a lovely comment, thank you for sharing 😊
im really surprised by boktais mechanic, and its so cool that its not even a gimmick to me. im surprised that a game 21 years old and counting has a feature like that, and no modern games i know of do
even though i was born in the more modern days of gaming of 2008 forward i still love to play some gb and gba games even if they are roms i like what your doing and you can really tell how good of a dad you are, respect
I got mine in 2019 love it, make sure to get a good game with it, I got Pokémon gold for cheap because the battery was dead so we put a new save battery and it worked perfectly.
That's so cool guys. You can't beat a Gameboy for Christmas 👌 Pokémon is definitely worth getting!! Any of the games. Zelda games are great too as well as the Donkey Kong series.
I understand some of the frustration in the comments, but as a fellow gamer dad i really appreciate the approach this video took. Not only did you highlight some classic games, but you perfectly expressed the pull between family and hobbies
It's pretty wild how such a gaming life style change can affect you elsewhere in life. In the 90s a lot of kids only had one system and a small amount of games for it... so this was the norm. You would work hard to love and beat the games you had, even if some/all of them weren't really that great. Nowadays we're so over saturated with options gaming wise and not-focusing on one system is the norm. When I went to playing retro sega games exclusively for about a year... it was freeing. it made me love gaming again. And helped me re-prioritize my life agendas.
Great challenge and video. I never had a handheld growing up in 2007 I bought a Pearl Blue Game Boy Advance SP (AGS-101) I liked it. I also got Namco Museum, Mario Kart Super Circuit, TMNT, Ultimate Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Super Mario Advance IV: Super Mario Bros III and Super Mario Advance: Super Mario Bros II. I sold it a year and a half later and I regret still do. I gave Mario Kart and Super Mario Bros III to my nephew. He sold it to me several months ago same as what I paid for it new($20) years ago. In 2015 or 2016 I bought a Onyx Game Boy Advance SP (AGS-001) I picked up Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance, Classic NES Series: Donkey Kong, Candy Land/Original Memory Game/ Chutes and Ladders, Classic NES Series: Metroid and Midway's Greatest Arcade Hits. I re-bought Namco Museum, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Super Mario Bros III, Ghost Rider and Ultimate Spider-Man. I also picked up Pokémon Red Version, Pokémon Silver Version, WWF WrestleMania 2000 and Army Men for Game Boy and Game Boy Color. You should play Ghost Rider, Ultimate Spider-Man, TMNT (film) and Mario Kart Super Circuit. Since I never really experience the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance (AGS-001) and with the worm light I'm planning on buying them since those handhelds are from my generation. I grew up with the Nintendo 64 and GameCube. Can you do a N64 and Cube 30 day challenge?
Haha, yeah I was fully expecting to rip on Strawberry Shortcake, but credit where credits due 😂 MvsDK, soooo good mate 👌 Glad you enjoyed it buddy, cheers!
I travel for work and the gba sp is my goto travel system. It’s just so easy to pack, takes up like no room and the games are great pickup and play with no huge commitment.
I’ve actually never been a fan of handhelds. But about a year ago I finally bought a Sega Game Gear since I’m a huge Sega fan and it was the last console I did not own from them. A childhood friend had one when we were kids and I thought it was cool back then. So when I got mine… I was disappointed in the screen for sure. It made me not want to play it at all…. So after doing some research, I decided on a modern display screen for it and ordered the CleanScreen from Retrosix. I was blown away by the brightness and clarity!! I actively want to play my Game Gear frequently now! And actually seek out new to me games that look fun to play! The new screen kit also solves the Game Gear’s battery drain issue! The batteries drain because Sega used a miniature fluorescent bulb to light the screen! Which is insane actually! I’ve just ordered a Spice Orange GBA and plan to do the same modification and finally get into the Gameboy stuff. I will probably sell my Advance SP as it is uncomfortable to hold and play. (I got used to the Game Gears width). I really wanted to play Gameboy stuff via the Gameboy Player, but I am a stickler for picture quality and would only want to play with component cables. I also wanted the Hori GBA controller since the D-Pad sucks on the GameCube controller. Unfortunately all of those peripherals have gotten stupid expensive. Plus I’ve rather enjoyed the pick up and play anywhere with my Game Gear. I can’t wait to start digging in! Also if you liked games like Kim Possible, you may like Lilo and Stitch for the GBA. It’s a run and gun and reminds a lot of Metal Slug actually!
Gba era is my favorite game era. Theres so many different games that aged like fine wine and it also helps that my childhood is a goldmine. Have you considered getting an analogue pocket???
It was such a fantastic time for handheld gaming! I'll be honest about the Analogue Pocket, when it first came out I didn't find it that appealing, mainly because of the cart solution, I feel its a bit awkward. But since mods have come put for it, I might need to change my mind 🤔
I had a GB Pocket then a GBC as a small child, GBA/SP as a kid, NDS Lite/PSP 1000 as a teen and PSP Go/3DS XL as an adult. (I still have most of my originals) I think I liked the NDS Lite/PSP days the best. NDS for the versatility of DS/GBA games and the awesome PSP with some emulators. Well, as you see by my Avatar, I also used Palm PDAs a lot so I also will include those. There was some excellent games on PDAs back in the old days. I'd definitely be interested in seeing another 30 day challenge.
the moment you showed Boktai and said nobody mentioned i just want you to know thats the 1 game im REALLY looking forward to playing again, im currently buying old GB, GBC and , GBA SP and games and i had Boktai (Golden Sun as well and that was also amazing) but i had it already pm completed bc it was given as a gift from a older kid at school.
You sound like a great Dad, your kids are lucky! My Dad was like you and he was my best friend, I'm sure your kids will say the same thing when they get older 🙂🙂🙂
Thank you, that really means a lot! My hope is that my kids grow up being happy and confident in themselves and the things they love. Your Dad sounds like a great person, it's an honour to be compared 😊
Why would it be "difficult"? The GBA SP rules! STILL play and try to collect (since you have to basically sell your soul to get a GBA game CIB nowadays) for my GBA SP(AGS-101).
I know I’m a year late to say this. But, I used to play game boy advance SP a lot as a kid. So much so that I played my Pokemon game until it died and I sadly threw it away like an idiot. I played my SP so much, that during my game of chain of memories. My L and R triggers sadly died. And I had to sadly let her go. It wasn’t until this year that my best friend gave me his SP and all of his original Pokemon games. My other friend was also selling g a SP travel pack which had a game cable, a Car charger, 10 game cases, headphones, the travel case, and a SP travel case. I cried, as I remembered the memories of my childhood flooding back. I thanked them so much for the gifts. I am currently working on building up a new GBA SP collection again. And I am having a wonderful time going back down memory lane
You're never late to this video buddy, this and all the 30 day challenges are here for us to connect over for as long as they are available 😉 Amazing story mate, reliving those childhood memories is such an amazing experience 😊
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it, Pokémon Emerald is where it's at though amirite 😉 Genuinely a brilliant video game library to explore though and still not that expensive!
That’s some quality content. Next up, do a short family challenge. One the kids can handle. Maybe N64 only for 5 days for you and the boys to do together.
I will say GBA hardware is very interesting. With the original, SP, and the micro. There is a guy who has a channel on UA-cam and his goal is complete the GBA US library.
I played just the gba sp for 6 months straight and absolutely loved it the reason I played for so long was cause I never got the chance to get one as a kid I couldn’t afford that but now I can and I love it
Nice video !! The original Game Boy is also my favorite handheld (i'm born in 1988 and i growed up with the original Game Boy). I recived a Game Boy Color in the early 2000's but i didn't played very much with it. BUT in the mid 2000's i recived a Game Boy Advance SP, and my love for the GBA EXPLODED. In 2007 i bought a Game Boy Micro and i discovered that the GBA is capable to run really complex 3D games. Since then until now i'm continuing to serch for interesting (*3D) *homebrew games, *unreleased games, *demake and *official games for the console. FUN-FACT : The only console that i'm playng this summer is ... the GBA (and i'm perfectly fine with it 😄).
I have a tough challenge for you or anyone reading this, which you could tackle next year. It's a year-long challenge, but it should be fun. Here's the rule dedicate each month to a console/generation as follows: January: Atari 2600 February: Nintendo Entertainment System March: Sega Master System April: Sega Genesis/Mega Drive May: Super Nintendo June: PlayStation 1 and Nintendo 64 July: Sega Dreamcast August: PlayStation 2 September: Xbox and GameCube October: PS3 and Xbox 360 November: PS4 and XBOX ONE December: PS5 and Series X/S I believe this challenge will be tough but also rewarding because you will get to experience the evolution of video games and grow great appreciation for older titles
@@ChronikSpartan I think you could use a emulator for the odd one like Atari just don't use any savestates and other hacks try to play it as close to playing on the real console as possible. You could look into getting the new Atari 2600+ it takes cartridges and outputs to HDMI
waoo i remember 2003 playing castlevanias , metroid golden sun 1,2 megaman zero i was really happy dragonball z legacy of goku was my very firt gba game
Been playing basically only gameboy for the past 2 years. All my friends like dude new re4 and dead rising. Im over here like dude i just beat megaman 2 GB🎉
So instead of embracing the GBA library and finding an entire generation of amazing games they may not have had the chance to experience, they spend the entire time complaining and thinking about the games they can’t play and how trying to experience the GBA conflicts with their family and social life… …the amount of problems I see here are astounding. Especially when the constant complaining coincides with limiting themselves and not even playing a Zelda game. Please don’t ever do one of these challenges again, it’s clear (regardless of the reasons) that you would rather be doing other things. If you just want to “experience the library” then just ask your viewers for recommendations and then play them if/when you FEEL LIKE PLAYING THEM… and leave this type of challenge to someone who is ACTUALLY GOING TO EMBRACE IT for what it is. 👎
Haha, thank you for the comment! In all my time on UA-cam it genuinely is one of the funniest I've ever read. I appreciate that wasn't your intent, but thank you anyway 😅
your steamdeck should be able to play gba games, and emulators for gba have settings menus for things like how much solar energy is detected, so you can just set any amount for that if you want, and its been an option for well over ten years on most emulators. the DS is also worth a go, imagine a n64 in your pocket! with gba graphics! chrono trigger, final fantasy, loads of games for that system.
The Miyoo mini is amazing! Mines still running stock memory and os. I’m wanting to get a new one and add more games. Keep looking into retro rangers cars for 89. Has over 16000 titles. Over 300 ps1 games you name it
This wouldn't be much of a challenge for me, the GBA has amazing game experiences.

Hahaha!! Amazing!
The GBA has amazing games on it, I wouldn't consider this a challenge, more of a "I should try this".
Playing the GBA for 30 days isn't the hard part, it's not playing anything else that is.
Basically a kid in the 90's@@ChronikSpartan
I really enjoy when you do these 30 days challenges and it's so cool that you did one for the GBA (though that Micro is STILL a hand killer for me and you sir, are crazy j/k). I also like knowing that you weren't all that familiar with the GBA library so this is such a great way to take a deep dive into it's impressive offerings. Oh, and kudos on avoiding the temptations of the missus with Beat Saber...though in 9 months we'll see if that's true or not. ;-)
It's an awesome thing to support the interests our kids have, even if they're not in line to our own.
LOL that SteamDeck, you sound like a handheld junkie itching for his fix. ha ha
Though I get the parameters in place, you missed out with no Zelda time.
Thanks Tom!
It was so interesting going into the challenge and not really knowing what was in store for me! The caliber of games though is unreal. It's right up there now with my favourite retro systems 👌
Thank you for the kind comments on my attempts at parenting 😅 so cool to hear too your kiddo has helped introduce you two to some amazing franchises. Yes I definitely need to get back into the realm when soon, lol.
Haha yeah I'm starting to think I am a bit of a handheld junkie 😂
Oh and if in 9 months time we have another, I think I'll have to close the channel and officially open up Chronik Spartan Daddy Day Care 😂
That Pirates of the Carribbean game is great, I'll be honest it takes a solid 30 mins-an hour to open up but it turns into a pretty unique experience.
I might have to give it another shot, cheers!
This is super cool! I watched your gameboy video tons of times and I’m even more excited to see this!
Thanks buddy, I really appreciate that! I'm doing a 30 Day DS Challenge right now 😊
@@ChronikSpartan I can’t wait for that! Maybe you could play Pokémon for that but instead of playing it normally, maybe you could make a challenge like only using your starter? But like you said in the video, if you played Pokémon you probably wouldn’t play any of the other amazing DS games.
What I learned from this: "don't get kids".
Hahaha 🤣
Currently working on a gen 3 complete Pokédex. It’s fun to have something to pop open the old SP for when I have a spare 20 minutes, to always have a little goal to work towards. Plus, these old devices are so disconnected from everything else - friends lists, advertisements, sales, achievements - it’s really a breath of fresh air.
It's such a beautiful release diving into a disconnected world isn't it. Those gaming goals are always really useful to keep the motivation up to!
"my beautiful lady tempting me in her own magical ways" "one handed gaming"
Is the GBA a metaphor
😉
i love how quickly hugh grant is disregarded
The GBA was a phenomenal system with phenomenal games.
the dude is "suffering through" 30 days of what I do 2nd year already.
Tell me about it! It seemed like such a great idea back in the day 😂
@@ChronikSpartan now need a hot tub time machine to go back and slap myself 😂😂😂
Great video although I don’t forgive you for selling by GBA for beer money. Still got that Doom Cart as well 😄
Haha! I don't forgive myself bro 😅
So in the end, what significant happened? Play virtual boy for 30 days then I'll be impressed.
39,000 people were interested in the story, that's pretty significant to me 😁
Lend me a Virtual Boy and I'll be happy to oblige 👍
you really remind me of my dad :) and some of his mannerisms, especially with the kim possible part. my dad loves showing us cartoons he loved like animaniacs and looney tunes.
That's so cool! It sounds like me and your Dad would get on well, I looney tunes and animaniacs was one of my faves!!
Such a lovely comment, thank you for sharing 😊
*Plays pokemon scarlet
*returns to GBA 😂
GBA all day 😅
im really surprised by boktais mechanic, and its so cool that its not even a gimmick to me. im surprised that a game 21 years old and counting has a feature like that, and no modern games i know of do
It's so brilliant isn't it! I've always felt that Kojima knew the fine line between gimmick and gameplay
even though i was born in the more modern days of gaming of 2008 forward i still love to play some gb and gba games even if they are roms i like what your doing and you can really tell how good of a dad you are, respect
Recently got a nice emulator on my phone. Been playing some Pokémon Ruby. Definitely having a blast once again.
No Donkey Kong Country? Shame.
This is sick dude I’m hoping for Christmas I get a Gameboy colour to get a feel for retro games
I got mine in 2019 love it, make sure to get a good game with it, I got Pokémon gold for cheap because the battery was dead so we put a new save battery and it worked perfectly.
@@valkyrie4Ok thanks bro my dad said he’s gonna get a Pokémon game I think he said Pokémon red or blue
@@jack_joyce350 np man I was 11 when I got it hope you enjoy!
That's so cool guys. You can't beat a Gameboy for Christmas 👌
Pokémon is definitely worth getting!! Any of the games.
Zelda games are great too as well as the Donkey Kong series.
@@ChronikSpartan with the leftover money I’ll definitely buy a Zelda game
I understand some of the frustration in the comments, but as a fellow gamer dad i really appreciate the approach this video took. Not only did you highlight some classic games, but you perfectly expressed the pull between family and hobbies
Yeah it's not for everyone to understand. We all walk life differently. The fun is learning about different people's experiences.
If you pause the video at 0:43 you see a weird GBA Because it has the buttons of the original game boy
Man didn't want to spend his Christmas money on Game Boy Advanced games but didn't hesitate a second to spend £300 on a Steam Deck LOL.
In some alternate dimension it makes sense 😅
It's pretty wild how such a gaming life style change can affect you elsewhere in life. In the 90s a lot of kids only had one system and a small amount of games for it... so this was the norm. You would work hard to love and beat the games you had, even if some/all of them weren't really that great.
Nowadays we're so over saturated with options gaming wise and not-focusing on one system is the norm. When I went to playing retro sega games exclusively for about a year... it was freeing. it made me love gaming again. And helped me re-prioritize my life agendas.
People are starving and you make playing one of the biggest video game libraries sound like torture lol
Anybody notice the the mouse in the commercial for the gb micro was…. F*****g it?!
It luuuuurves GBA!!
Strawberry Horse Riding cracked me up 😂 was not expecting that. Mario v DK looks a good platformer, I'll have to check it out. Great video man, cheers
Haha, yeah I was fully expecting to rip on Strawberry Shortcake, but credit where credits due 😂
MvsDK, soooo good mate 👌
Glad you enjoyed it buddy, cheers!
5:32 bro was shagging a game boy 💀💀💀
He luuuuuurves Game Boy!!
I bought the standard GBA but I got it with a IPS screen just to play Sigma Star and Pokémon Sapphire 😢
I'm hoping it arrives via mail soon 😊😊😊😊
Oh nice! That'll be lovely
Boktai!!! And Mario vs dk were two games I could not trade away over the years. Just too good.
I travel for work and the gba sp is my goto travel system. It’s just so easy to pack, takes up like no room and the games are great pickup and play with no huge commitment.
It is such a perfect portable console!
I've been away from the channel for a bit and I come back to this! The mighty GBA!! That's what I'm talkin about!!!
I don't really play my ps5 either, only recently I have started playing Ys VIII on ps5 so I will get some use out of it. Also great video :)
Thanks buddy!!
Yeah I'm thinking the PS5 challenge could be fun 😁
Thank you for the shoutout man, you nailed it!!
No problem mate, glad you enjoyed it 😉
I’ve actually never been a fan of handhelds.
I stopped and played Mario vs Donkey Kong on my Retroid 2 for about an hour and then finished the video. Lol
It's such a great game isn't it!!
I had a GB Pocket then a GBC as a small child, GBA/SP as a kid, NDS Lite/PSP 1000 as a teen and PSP Go/3DS XL as an adult. (I still have most of my originals)
I think I liked the NDS Lite/PSP days the best.
Difficult? Lmao the GBA is like a golden grail of games
Playing GBA is not difficult, playing nothing else is! Lol
the moment you showed Boktai and said nobody mentioned i just want you to know thats the 1 game im REALLY looking forward to playing again, im currently buying old GB, GBC and , GBA SP and games and i had Boktai (Golden Sun as well and that was also amazing) but i had it already pm completed bc it was given as a gift from a older kid at school.
Nice one mate! It's such an awesome game bro!
Difficult to play only GBA and nothing else. In between other consoles it's a breeze.
I’m doing a challenge where I eat nothing but gameboy advances for 30 days
And you have to play on what you poop out 💩
The GBA is an amazing system. I feel like I could play it for a month.
So good, so many amazing games!
I can’t help but to feel the Gym Empire game should have been named “Gympire”
You're never late to this video buddy, this and all the 30 day challenges are here for us to connect over for as long as they are available 😉
Amazing story mate, reliving those childhood memories is such an amazing experience 😊
@@ChronikSpartan thank you very much. And I am enjoying my journey again with absolute pure joy 🥰
I dare you to try the 30 day Linux Mint challenge, where all you use on your PC is Linux Mint ;)
It would be interesting to see a 30 day game gear challenge not gonna lie.
Haha, I know right! I'm tempted, although I'll have to start a savings account for the batteries 😂
@@ChronikSpartan haha, that’s a good point!
Editing is so sharp 👌 I subbed
Thank you mate, really appreciate that!
Please make another one of these maybe a ds or GameCube
ah man Boktai was so sick. Same with Golden Sun. The GBA had so many bangers
30 days later hands are permanently cramped lol
When he said metal gear was his favorite game, I quickly subscribed
Great minds bro 😁
You should have emulated the gba on the stems deck for the last two days because nobody said you couldn't do that
3:41 that’s a fake copy of golden sun 😭. Any I’m 99% any game with the C€ in the top right is a fake.
My GBA Knowledge is practically nonexistent outside Pokemon, so I loved this vid 😁
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it, Pokémon Emerald is where it's at though amirite 😉
Genuinely a brilliant video game library to explore though and still not that expensive!
Was that Ian m banks I saw on the shelf?
It was! The Culture series is fantastic
That’s some quality content. Next up, do a short family challenge. One the kids can handle. Maybe N64 only for 5 days for you and the boys to do together.
Thanks buddy!
My wife was saying exactly the same thing! I think it could be a really great idea 😉
I’ve been playing tetris and tetris blast on my dmg gb for the last two months, loving it.
The second pirates of the Caribbean on gba was much better than the first. Unfortunately many of these movie tie ins were very hit or miss.
I will say GBA hardware is very interesting. With the original, SP, and the micro. There is a guy who has a channel on UA-cam and his goal is complete the GBA US library.
Such a phenomenal library!
I'll have to check that guy out. Sounds like a great goal!!
I'm surprised majority didn't recommended the Castlevania games
I played just the gba sp for 6 months straight and absolutely loved it the reason I played for so long was cause I never got the chance to get one as a kid I couldn’t afford that but now I can and I love it
Honestly mate 30 days wasn't enough, I still play it regularly now as there are so many amazing games on it!
GBA is the latest handheld I own. Play it several times a week.
Aaaay I saw niknokturnal on your UA-cam feed
Edit: great video man, as a fellow gamer dad I approve lol
Haha! Nokturnal rocks 🤘
Thanks buddy, I really appreciate that 🙏
Nice video !!
That's awesome buddy! I love your passion for Gameboy and looking for new games.
Sounds like you're having a perfect summer 👌
You could play the same GBA game for 30 days and I would not be suprised.
That's fair
I have a tough challenge for you or anyone reading this, which you could tackle next year. It's a year-long challenge, but it should be fun. Here's the rule dedicate each month to a console/generation as follows:
January: Atari 2600
February: Nintendo Entertainment System
March: Sega Master System
April: Sega Genesis/Mega Drive
May: Super Nintendo
June: PlayStation 1 and Nintendo 64
July: Sega Dreamcast
August: PlayStation 2
September: Xbox and GameCube
October: PS3 and Xbox 360
November: PS4 and XBOX ONE
December: PS5 and Series X/S
I believe this challenge will be tough but also rewarding because you will get to experience the evolution of video games and grow great appreciation for older titles
Haha, OK now that is a beast of a challenge, even just getting the consoles!!
@@ChronikSpartan I think you could use a emulator for the odd one like Atari just don't use any savestates and other hacks try to play it as close to playing on the real console as possible.
You could look into getting the new Atari 2600+ it takes cartridges and outputs to HDMI
There are patches for the Boktai Series. Maybe try on the Repro from Boktai 3 a button combi witht "select + left" or "select + right"
Ahh OK, I'll give that a try 👍
waoo i remember 2003 playing castlevanias , metroid golden sun 1,2 megaman zero i was really happy dragonball z legacy of goku was my very firt gba game
Insane decision 🤣 setting the bar low now aren’t we?
I know right 🤣
Been playing basically only gameboy for the past 2 years. All my friends like dude new re4 and dead rising. Im over here like dude i just beat megaman 2 GB🎉
Well, I thought I watched this this morning, but I will gladly watch it again
Haha, yeah an annoying little copyright issue popped up so I had to re-edit it. Cheers for watching again mate 👊
Have you tried metal gear solid on the gameboy color ??
Yes I absolutely love that game!! I'll have to play it on the 30 Day GBC challenge whenever I do it
So instead of embracing the GBA library and finding an entire generation of amazing games they may not have had the chance to experience, they spend the entire time complaining and thinking about the games they can’t play and how trying to experience the GBA conflicts with their family and social life…
…the amount of problems I see here are astounding.
I have a modded GBA and saving up for an Everdrive. I do find the original GBA more comfortable to hold in my hands.
Yeah OG GBA is definitely more ergonomic
if ya just added a gba player for the gamecube this would of been so much easier to tolerate
the music transition at 14:59 is amazing
Thank you, I put a lot of thought into the music
your steamdeck should be able to play gba games, and emulators for gba have settings menus for things like how much solar energy is detected, so you can just set any amount for that if you want, and its been an option for well over ten years on most emulators.
the DS is also worth a go, imagine a n64 in your pocket! with gba graphics! chrono trigger, final fantasy, loads of games for that system.
The Miyoo mini is amazing! Mines still running stock memory and os. I’m wanting to get a new one and add more games. Keep looking into retro rangers cars for 89. Has over 16000 titles. Over 300 ps1 games you name it
Miyoo mini is one of my all time favourite for sure!!
I just beat dinosaurs and Cadillacs. It was a fun beat ‘em up! Now I’m starting golden sun
