Anyone who does this in higher tiers: try to get close to a friendly and then FLY AWAY FROM HIM, so the enemy behind you gets his but in between the 2 of you to be able to eat an AAM!

@@miquelescribanoivars5049 The reason for that was because of the guns: the Colt Mk.12s were terrible, and would constantly jam under anything more than 1g (especially in turns. If those could have been replaced by the M39, the Crusader would've scored more guns kills.

The wings are fragile because of the “dog tooth” shape: there is more wing area outboard than inboard, which means there is more drag on the outside of your wings where they are thinnest. Pulling a high angle of attack at more than about Mach .8 will yank them off because they are like a stiff sail made of aluminum.

Not me. I like his videos and his contribution to the WT community but i just can't respect someone that takes the easy way out especially when they have a large following of people that have probably went through what he's went through.
@@Tomas-mu1kb I understand your perspective but wish for you to consider this. Community leaders are expected to put on a brave face. Everything they do is looked at under the microscope, whether it be by one member of the community or everyone; it all affects you the same.
If you feel like your life is going nowhere, if you feel like no matter what you do it ends in failure, you’ll come to a point in your thinking and overthinking that you’d be better off in a grave. Perhaps you’d be loved more, or people would seemingly finally comprehend the level of suffering you’re going through. Especially for blokes who’s self-worth is proportional to their ability to provide, produce and pioneer, suicide seems like the only option to remain valuable to society; that is, by not being a burden or a drag on society, or their family.
Now picture this; a recluse with diagnosed mental health issues, no real sense of purpose and direction other than a small project like a YT channel, find that because of something he can’t directly control, their project, their Magnum Opus, is going down the drain. No one watches their videos like they used to. You see each video doing worse than the ones before it, and newer videos basically reaching a quarter of the views that you used to receive. Your life’s work, the entire value you produce to this world, is gone.
I know that feeling. It fucking sucks. And YT runs you like a treadmill. If you don’t perform, the algorithm gives the viewer something else to watch, and you fade into obscurity. That thought on its own is really painful for a YTer that puts years of their life into recording, researching, playing, and interacting with the community.
I don’t blame Bart for doing what he did, and I think if anyone else was in that situation, they’d be thinking the same thing, or at least something similar. “What’s the point?” “Why should I even try if nothing I do ever works?” I know other YTers that have been in the same situation, as have I. Whilst it seems like the easy way out from the outside, as someone who’s seen both sides of the coin it feels more like death is the ONLY way out of a never-ending downward spiral.
TL;DR: In reality being a YTer is tough when it runs you like a treadmill and you have nothing else to push for in life or no one to support you when you fall.

The F8, the F80, and the F4E are the only planes I've gotten 7 kills in
The last p-51, mig 17 and the me 262 are the only planes I got more than 4 kills
F4E, F-1, F-104A, and F86F-2 I've been able to get in 7 kills in one game, my record is with the Hunter FGA.9 though with 10 in one game
For me the XP-50 got 7.

I do hope we see either an F-8E or F-8J in the future. Both have an IRST sensor ball on the nose, and they can also carry more ordnance than their predecessors. The F-8E arguably has the strongest engine, as the F-8J lost a few hundred pounds of thrust to the Boundary-Layer Control System (vents that take air from the intakes and push it under the wings to generate more lift during landing and takeoff)

5:46 Early F-8s didnt have external hardpoints, but later variants got upgraded wings that could carry stores on the wings. I think i remember those later versions wings being strengthened too, but i cant find a source to quote on that though so take that tidbit with a grain of salt.

The F-8E onwards had external hardpoints on the wongs, and were typically used to carry bombs or bullpups.
Funny how IRL this thing was known to lose dogfights to F-4B's at low altitudes
My favorite tactic with this thing is to use the great high speed energy retention to get to high altitude, secure it, and then just snipe people looking down. These missiles make 4k easily in top-down shots and are absolutely nuts at high altitude. Longest snipe I got was on a Mig-21bis moving at mach 1.6 8km away at 35,000ft.
That missile kill is insane I think I’ve gotten similar in the FGR.2 way back. Truly nuts the range on that missile

In real life the F-8 had no particular g-limitations that put it at any disadvantage. It was listed at 8.5g as the normal rated load factor (12.75g ultimate). It is true that wing stores dropped it considerable, but then so does anything's. It was designed as a pure dogfighter, so it would have made little sense for it not to be allowed to maneuver. Actually, it did have a shortcoming that is hard to understand they lived with and that was the cannon were prone to jamming when fired under g-force. Was never really sorted out. But the wings stayed on just fine.
12:10 it's important to note that the SMT has a stronger engine than the MF. the MiG-19 has a higher TWR than the Crusader, the 9.7 MiG-21s are comparable and the MF and SMT will both outperform you in Thrust to Weight. From watching this it also looks like the crusader struggles to accelerate near mach at low altitudes, so that should be something people should keep in mind. I'm not quite sure how each of these planes match up in acceleration because of drag, but I'd assume that the 10.3 MiGs for the most part will have the advantage.
It wasn't called the last of the gunfighters because it was designed to fight with guns, it was given that name because the aircraft that came after it where designed without any built-in guns. When the original f-4 phantoms were produced the air Force and Navy considered guns a thing of the past. It wasn't until they realize the phantoms were having problem shooting down mig's over Vietnam with missiles alone that they started to add guns back into the airframes. The phantom's relied heavily on the Sparrow which required a minute of radar lock before you could even fire it where it could track the target.the reason the crusader doesn't have hard points on the wings is because it was never designed to fill a close airsupport role. It was specifically designed for dog fighting, and it wasn't until later that they started adding rocket armaments which typically was the marine crusaders not the Navy.
the Phantom wasn't designed without guns because they were deemed obsolete, it was designed originally without guns because it would need a smaller, less powerful radar to fit and would be heavy. Obviously, eventually they shot past the weight restraint anyway, and added the gun, but not because they were 'outdated'. Hell, the Raptor is never expected to be fighting within visual range and is purely air to air but still has a gun.
@@deathlocus1571 may want to go back and relook. The Super corsair was denied in trials against the phantom because it had a gun and they were deemed outdated by the military. It was seen as a relic of the past to have guns, the phantom no gun experiment is the reason all aircraft after have the cannon as a backup.
This is entirely incorrect. Not only were guns outdated, most victories (even for the “Last Gunfighter”) were scored with missiles. The Navy F-4s never got the gun, nor did they use a gun pod, and they did better than USAF F-4s. The Sparrow did not need 1 minute of an STT to fire, that was the Aim-4, which was quickly phased out. And the F-8 was not designed as a dog fighter. It was designed for fleet defense interception, especially on smaller carriers the F-4 couldn’t operate from.

i bring unfortunate news from the future
i havent seen very much of the F8 in action. my only experiences with fighting it was when it was first released. where i dueled it using a bis. in that fight, i was toe to toe with it without using my AB or flaps so i assumed it was quite subpar. in RB matches, when im flying F13s, ive only seen a hand full and they usually died before i could see any action against them. in summary from my experiences with the F8U, id find it a subpar plane, so the vid was a interesting take from my view.
I have the exact same opinion on the f8. Once you learn how to not wing snap, you do wonders. Still remember my game with it in wich I took out an mirage, a drakken and an 21bis in dogfight. Simply amazing if you dont snap wings.
Back to videos again. Let's go! Also, you spoke about performance. I have a 3070ti and get crazy stutters randomly. Didn't happen on my 1660ti.

I was enjoying this plane but when I switched to ground targets belts... holy shit. They seem to do so much more damage to other planes.
People underestimate the power of AP rounds on m2s and American guns in general, it's like gaijin put them on steroids lol

Yeah but they tend to over penetrate with high speed attacks or hit parts that won't ignite, that's where the hei rounds shine. Honestly universal belts that have near equal amount of he and AP is your best bet

Fun fact the F8 in game is a Frankenstein of the late and early version as it has the late production version of the the landing gear and the gun placement is that of the early version.

I have an over 3KD in this thing from memory (could be 2.5 is) and for me that’s pretty rare for a plane with no flares, etc. most of my deaths are from ripping my wings too
For me it's the opposite. I have a 1.75 kd and half my deaths are early wing rips
Very natural for top tier jet beginners, my F-4E suffered when I first started playing it. Later with more experience you'll get better;)
@@uiop7204 It's only this plane though, I'm positive in every other 9.0+ jet I've played. I'm well over 2.0 k/d in the F-5E for example. I have almost a month of playtime in air rb at this point, I'm far from a beginner lol.
@@Spitflyer I think it just never clicked with me, as you said it requires a specific playstyle. I'm also willing to be that I'm positive or close to positive excluding wing rip deaths. I could never figure out to avoid them consistently.
Did you know you can separate the cannons into pairs to stretch out of your ammo ?
You used to be able to do it by left and right gunset (which is wrong, it should be top and bottom) but not anymore.
If you are against putting an aircooler on your 5950X (understandable given the OC), I would suggest a 280 mm AIO in lieu of a 360. It may seem counterintuitive but you will actually get more surface area out of a 280 mm rad than a 360.

Now that the French crusader is here, I've had a reason to finish grinding that air tree. And it was fucking worth it. This plane is extremely fun to fly. It may only have two missiles, but you can choose between magics and radar guided / IR guided R530s. You might not get a lot of missile kills but the kills you do get feel like you've earned them!

to clarify: You're not gonna win low-speed turnfighting. You have to energy fight them. Note how my speed never dropped too low? It meant that I could always accelerate away, and by keeping the fight in the vertical, I ensured that I could always keep making distance from the F-5.
In reality, the later dogfight was an energy fight, not a low speed rate fight or rolling scissors, which is what I mean by "low speed dogfight"

Tip for everyone
Make sure you have small calibers and cannon fire buttons seperated. That way you have twice the ammo to shoot with at it doesnt shoot all with its 4 guns but 2 guns

This plane got flores not Long agosto, it really gives it a boost, also when you are low on fuel i recomend selecting only one pair of guns so you double your ammo
I would recommend Spit to use combat flaps during turns, hard turns in dogfight if he don't wanna get yeeted by 11Gs

I used to hate the F-8 for a while when it was first added. Always ripped my wings. Tried it out again recently, have been able to pull 12g-13g without ripping and actually making it to the end of the match.
I need to start using it more. It seems like a ton of fun

Finally someone talks about this plane properly. Wing rips are extremely annoying but when it was 10.0, it was completely dominant. Harriers were mostly food for the 9Ds, every single match. Also love getting 6km kills on 104s thinking they'll outrun them at 25k feet lol.

you can turn fight MIG 21 easily btw. The F8 is one of my favorite planes to fly but the learning curve with the wings is REALLY steep. Also, like to point out historically during the Vietnam war the F8 did some turning fights with MIG 17s, the only things that can outturn it is the Mirage and J35

F-8 can outrate a Viggen every time. Viggen has ZERO chance against the F-8. I have never lost a 1v1 against a Viggen, in an F-8, since the Crusader just retains its energy so well.
J-7E and MiG-23MLD are the only planes that have a chance to beat it.
I recently got a 7 kill game in the f104C of all planes and it was the only time I actually went back and clipped it lol

People over dramaticize the wings, keep the wing aileron mod thingy off so you don't get the extra deflection, and as long as you do straight turns, IE, don't roll midturn just straight loops, you can pull all day

This thing sucks in a uptier to 11.0, which it gets alot of now being at 10.3, just free food the migs and phantoms. No idea why they made the f4f early and the mig21mf/smt 10.3 along with this thing.
We really need max BR to go up to 11.3-11.7 so we can move up stuff like the f4f, f4e/ej(personallythink the British phantom could can stay where they are at), and mig21bis that stomp stuff in the 10.3 area like the f1 and f8, then we could even move the mig21mf/smt and f4f early back to 10.7 where they belong.

The F-8E/J/E(FN) have heavily strengthened wings to allow them to use two underwing pylons. The pylons could carry a Bullpup, a single bomb of up to 2,000 pounds, 5xZuni rocket pod or 3x500 pound bombs on a TER.
The strengthening of the spars should almost completely remove the chance of breaking the wings. Almost. I imagine Gaijin will still leave them more fragile than many other planes at that rank and BR.
The strengthend wings didn't change the g limits (which you can see in the F-8 tactical manual) and the E(FN) couldn't use the wing pylons because the French Navy never bought them. As for the bullpup it was never put into service, it was tested on one F-8E but it was very clunky to use so it was never integrated.
If any variant of the F-8 should be added it should be the H model which had the best flight performance of any of the models not the J.
@@kekdermott3055 I’m surprised that the reinforcements for the pylon didn’t increase the safe G limit of the wing.
Then again that limitation wouldn’t just be on the wing would it? Just because Gaijin uses the wing to represent the effect doesn’t mean it’s just the wing. It’d be everything from the fuselage to the engine and electronic fiddly bits to the horizontal stabilizers and so on. I should have realized that.
Darn. I was really hoping I wouldn’t have to pay quite so much attention to when I can yank the stick back hard enough to hit my spine. 😉
@@daniel_f4050 Well actually the effect only happend to the wing for a specific reason which is that the Crusader's entire wing is it's flap system (due to the variable incidence mechanism). Becuase the wing isn't fully connected too the fueslage that makes it structurally weaker. If the F-8 didn't have the variable incidence wing then it's structural limits wuld probably be comparable to the A-7.
@@kekdermott3055 I’ll put dollars to donuts that the system that changes the AoA of the wing is locked down unless the plane is in take off or landing configurations. If it raised the wing in any other part of the flight envelope it would probably tear the plane apart. There are regular flaps on the inboard section of the trailing edge as you can see in this cutaway drawing.

@@daniel_f4050 just a quick correction but the leading edge flaps aren't flaps their slats. As for how the system works you are indeed correct about how the system works, the flap system is seperated into two parts a switch on the throttle that droops the slats (which is combat flaps) and two levers on the left side of the cockpit one which activates the variable incidence mechanism (raising the wing, drooping the ailerons, lowering the flaps and further drooping the slats) and another which locks the wing into position.

Speed, try not to bleed your speed too much as that thing does it a lot. However it has really good low speed maneuverability but getting there would end up with a missile in your hole and a lack of counter measures is even worse.
Drone else with it could probably tell you more but most importantly use it at low alt

the aim 9d's are like 40k research, i've done like 60 games in it and got only 2 mods, help i'm going to implode.
Some air coolers are better than water coolers. But a full custom loop would be sick, those ampere GPUs are extremely power hungry and are practically begging to be water cooled.
