I AGREE with you 1,000%. I hops this series comes out on DVD someday. It's just like the twilight zone. I LOVE YOUR COMMENT TOO.

@@kevinjohnson4599 I think the most we could probably hope for is a remastered "Best of" DVD set. There's just too many episodes to clean up and probably not a big enough potential audience. I'm really glad I re-discovered Insight online here about a month or so though, thanks again Paulist Productions!

Patty Duke always gave great performances, but it’s also great to see Rue McClanahan playing against type here.

Definitely one of the best eps! Timeless & relevant no matter when. They packed an enormous amount of drama in that 1/2 hour. And every word fit.

Ms Duke looks quite beautiful here. My sister, who reminds me sometimes of the Patty character from the 60s sitcom The Patty Duke Show, was married to 3 different men who were like the James Hampton character. (She had some kind of idea she could fix these guys.) Each seemed to be worse than the guy that preceded them. And she suffered because, like here, none of them considered themselves as alcoholics.

This is like the Little House ep where Mr. Edwards comes in drunk and ruins his kid's birthday party ( Edwards became a boozer after his older son was murdered ). Edwards upset the family, ruined the birthday ( the birthday boy ran into his room crying and saying he hated Edwards ) and his wife kicked him out and divorced him. Edwards returned to Walnut Grove and was welcomed by the Ingalls family. He took Albert on a trip to Sleepy Eye only to get kicked out of a saloon for being drunk and fighting with a cowboy. Then he drove like a maniac and hurt Albert. Pa Ingalls said I don't want you near my family anymore but Laura took Edwards in. A letter from his wife saying she was divorcing Edwards prompted Edwards to go to the store for more wiskey but he saw the church and went in to pray. The preacher met him and they preyed. Pa came over to forgive him ( Albert was OK ) and Laura baptized her kid with Mr. Edwards the recovered alcoholic as godfather. It was a funny episode. Drinking is dumb.

I like this one, it teaches how alcohol is very addictive and clog your judgement. Alcoholism is a disease.

Nice episode, but that set looks like it could've been used for a Norman Lear sitcom of the mid-late 1970s.

This WAS taped at Metromedia Square in Hollywood (where Lear taped all of his programs after 1975).

Yup, as soon as I saw Metromedia I knew why it looked like a Norman Lear Show. Videotape. Good episode. It’s good to see Father Kaiser, who was known as the Hollywood Priest.

Plus, although the actors on "Insight" come from everywhere, there seems to be an abundance of actors (stars and guests) who appeared on 70s CBS shows, where Lear had his biggest successes. In one episode, "All Out" about a wild game show, you even see a CBS TV camera.

Interesting. I don't believe I've ever seen or heard of this before. But to be fair I was only 1 in 1977. Also Alcohol is not a disease, because if it were, you could catch it from others. Still a good program though.

If you prefer, try the word "propensity" to addiction, dictated in large part by genetics, coupled with a bit of practice. The point of calling it a disease is to remind that addiction is not willfully chosen.
