Authentic looking! The basement. The record player with records laying about, the wood paneling (very new in ‘68). A huge trend in the 1970s. This set is representative of the upper middle class in the late 1960s.

What a find! Thank you so much for unearthing this show. I don't remember it all from my youth; will now check out more. This episode is the first I've seen, a weird as hell time capsule. Reminds me a lot of the fairly recent (excellent) movie, "The Invitation", in both situation and philosophical depth, although the latter is more horrific.

It was kind of a metaphysical Twilight Zone (by the way Rod Serling wrote an episode), and if you begin with the earliest ones from sixty-one through the late sixties, seventies, and early eighties, they very much mirror the times in which they were made. When the FCC, under Reagen's administration, eliminated the rule that local TV stations had to donate so much time to non-commercial outlets, the show was doomed: They're was no way they could compete with large religious groups who were able to buy the time. Check out Father Keizer's autobiography, Hollywood Priest, also under a different title in paperback on line or at Paulists Books if you continue enjoying the show.

In 1974 and up to end of her life Ann B Davis lived in an Episcopalian religious community. I wonder if working on this episode planted a seed for her future religious life? I really like this episode. Just watched it for a second time. Each character and speech gives me much to ponder.

Young couples in the late 1960s. Not the wwII generation. Not baby boomers. In between. House parties, lots of alcohol and smoking. The pill. These folks made “affairs” so very casual. They over are, smoked too much, drank way too much....
They were searching and most just slowed down and aged.

@@InsightPaulistProductions It could be that the religious nature of the show provided some cover from TV censors.
As far as pushing boundaries, the first episode I saw was "The Death of Superman" perhaps in its original broadcast, which as a ten-year old, I didn't understand. When viewing it a few years later, I got it.
Thank you for putting all these up! I've been wanting to rewatch these for decades, plus there are many that I've never seen.

It seems so strange and unlikely that adults would gather in a conference for a beach party to debate the existence of God. Although very implausible it is fascinating due to the nature of the topic and dialogue. Ann Davis is the only actress who gives this contrived episode any flair or charm.

The times we live in. Peter only denied God three times -"Erbame Dict (not sure of the spelling) in St. Matthew's Passion describes Peter's asking for forgiveness.
When in doubt, I turn to the classics.

I can’t remember the name of the actor who’s on the couch. He was in a lot of TV in the early 50s. That guy was very talented. He handles himself pretty well here. He throws off the little extra things with his voice and his mannerisms but people today wouldn’t pick up on that. A few of the other actors are so good at what they’re doing...

I believe you’re talking about Don Hanmer. He was in lots of shows like Bonanza,Gunsmoke,Bewitched,Mannix,Ironsides,Highway to Heaven, etc. I agree. The actors back then were much better than the ones we have today.

I was a kid and loved these show and grew up around this time with artistic but religous hippy parents. It' was kind of do your own thing time period. I think the girl was a little harsh on the adults but they were all kind of snotty to the ones that didn't agree with them I think that's where she would have taken them more to task. Calling them souless doesn't really change minds or accomplish anything. I guess since she supposed to be a teenager it could technically be excused for reasons of youth and inexperience. I would have addressed it more like why are you angry at God instead of the folks who's actions cause the problems instead of addressing the people who need help with love. Just my take.
