Well the fact of the matter is they are both advertised as 65 quarts and the Yeti is not 65 quarts. So it doesn't matter if the size is an advantage. The Yeti is undersized and Rtic gives you more quarts for less money.
The RTIC (beep) seems like the better (beep) cooler in my opinion. This is a fair (beep) test and glad you (beep) guys did it. FOR FUCKS SAKE REPLACE THE BATTERY!!!
Thank you for the comparison video between the RTIC and the YETI 65 coolers. After seeing the results of your comparisons, I am definitely buying the RTIC cooler. Great job!!
After doing a bunch of research, I ended up going with the Cabelas Polar Cap. I would highly recommend it. It holds ice so well that I actually save the ice for the next time. And you can not beat that They are made in the USA, Lifetime warranty and priced well.
Measuring the leftover water and ice would have been a nice touch for those of us who thrive on empirical data. That way we could have seen if there was any skew in the original amount of ice. That said, the end result seems to other tests I have seen. Great review !Thx
For all of you that complained about yeti being the Apple of Coolers and price point. I would like to ask Kevin to do more comprehensive challenges other than just storing ice. This is video is a good challenge however people don't buy Yeti's or the other expensive coolers just because they store ice for a long time. Can you perform some stress tests on the coolers? Perform drop test with the coolers full of food and ice at different temperatures to see if they break, or if the lids pull open. Put weight on them and see which can handle the most. There are a lot of heavy people that sit on these coolers while out on the boat or camping. Hit them with a car at slow to moderate speeds. This will constitute some real world related testing.
Its made by one of the brothers that left the company and started his own cooler company. They do look so much alike though! you are probably 100% correct but why not try? :) :P :0!
I bought am RTIC 30 oz last week and am amazed at how long the ice lasts. My husband has a Yeti 20 and it holds ice very well too, but the RTIC is cheaper and comes with a sliding closed top, while the Yeti comes with the top with an open hole and it can [and does] spill.
This is a great video... . Compelling, well spoken, good sound, answered all the questions. There was a part that cracked me up... I don't remember what it was , but I was in LOLville.
how's that not fair? they didn't use manufacturer specifications for cooling. the yeti by all rights should have won because it had less open air to cool. Properly filled coolers will keep open air to a minimum. the fact that the RTIC did win is a testament to the build. the only fair test would be to fill both chests to the max displacing as much air as possible and see which actually holds ice the longest
If one chest has a larger volume than the other a true comparison is not possible. Sarcasm is something you did not get out of my post. Anyway It goes to show you some people can't read and or comprehend the post. And the test you want wont work either as the Rtic will hold more ice than Yeti even the first test proves the Yeti with less volume was not able to beat the Rtic with a larger volume and the same amount of ice..
+Malcolm D Williamson think I just covered that... also as they are competing coolers you absolutely can compare with a similar test, you just need to follow the manufacturers recommendations on filling the dang things. Also consider that both yeti and RTIC say that these coolers will hold ice for up to 10 days which is what the test needs to be structured around, ice retention. kind of the point of a performance cooler.
Let me guess you compare oranges to apples as well. And if you can't grasp that the Rtic which is a bigger cooler lasted longer than the smaller Yeti no amount of ice is going to change the outcome. You are just a Yeti fanboy and are pissed you payed $400 for a cooler and cheaper Rtic beat it. Get a grasp on thermal dynamics then read your post again and you will see the error in your ideology.
Malcolm D Williamson The RTIC cooler is hands down bigger because in order to keep the larger air space cool it needs to be more efficient. If both coolers are advertised as 65 quart coolers then it IS 100% acceptable to compare them.
I may be a little late to the game. But every time you open up those coolers and introduced a brand-new volume of air you put the Rtic at a disadvantage because it has a larger volume capacity to keep cool including its entire environment which is the air as well. That being said the Rtic outcome was even more impressive because of that. Thank you again for doing this comparison, not that I would ask you to do another one. But it would be interesting to fill them to their full capacity and see if there's a significant difference. I would believe that the Rtic would shine even more then. You help me save some money And make my choice. Again thank you for your time!
I would actually have given the advantage to the smaller Yeti with the amount of ice you put in. because it was smaller it should have been cooler inside, with less area to cool. if you would have completely filled both coolers with ice the advantage would have gone to the RTIC because it holds more ice. That being said it's obvious I made the right choice by buying a RTIC. Thanks to you and your son for the video.
Thanks for your unbiased careful tests, Kevin. We're in the market for a new cooler. We live in hot humid southeast Florida and really need a replacement for our rusty old classic metal Coleman, which has served us well for 20 years, but it's getting to the point where it won't seal or latch well anymore and it's really beaten up. When Hurricane Matthew was threatening us this year, we packed up the Coleman with as much ice as possible to take frozen and refrigerated food to a relative's home out of harm's way. Fortunately for us, Matthew only sideswipped us, so we never lost power and didn't have to evacuate. In the morning, when I unpacked the old cooler, just under 18 hours from filling it with cold or frozen items and never opened it, but now, saw very little ice remained. A cheap old styrofoam cooler we had also packed had a better ice to water ratio. That clinched it and our search for a truly serious cooler began. Boating friends insisted we needed a Yeti. I looked into them and yes, they're nicely made with a good reputation, but then I heard about RTIC going for HALF the price. Could Yeti be that much better? Thanks to your test I know that, NO, a $400 Yeti is not better than a $200 RTIC. Of course, customer service matters, so I'd really like to research the differences between the two companies. I do care if something is made in the USA and if it's worth it, will pay extra, but when I looked at a Yeti 65 at our Gander Mountain outdoor retailer, I saw it was made in Thailand, not the USA.
Thank you for the time, effort, and money spent producing this scientific and informative video. Being a Yeti 20 Roadie owner, I wanted to buy an RTIC but needed a cooler within a short time for camping; however, seeing that RTICs (at least the 65 series) weigh more than Yeti by approx. 10 lbs. makes the choice much easier, at least for me. Certainly, Yeti's high price isn't a means to justify and compensate for its advantage in weight to RTIC, but for expedient transportation and cutting-edge innovations for a cooler, I say, if one can afford it, to purchase a Yeti over an RTIC. This is said without bias, and knowing what I do now, I would likely repurchase another Yeti in the future if need be, and only if not on a budget. Also, to those contemplating which manufacturer to buy from, it's equally important to consider available cooler accessories from both manufacturers, product warranty durations and coverage, and customer support service.
I just received my RTIC 65 over the weekend. I have not experienced any of the other high end coolers prior but bought mine based on reviews online such as this. After unboxing it and opening, as I tap on the inside of the cooler, it almost sounds hollow. I expected to feel a pretty solid thud. is this typical?
Yep, everyone is catching on that the Yeti is way overpriced, they are basically just stealing from people. Get more for a lot less with other brands! Thanks for the test!
This test wasn't even a test, I've seen better experiments from my 8 year old students! They didn't even have temperature monitoring plus the legnth of the test plus the different sizes make this a complete waste of time!!! Total failure to think things through. Yeah I could have saved then the video and whilst they were out getting batteries for the smoke detectors maybe get some for a couple of temp probes?? Also maybe some perishable goods and a longer test than freaking a day!! Total fail....
Solid review/comparison. One thing that I'm curious about because I've been waiting on my rtic's now for a bit, was there a difference between your estimated ship date and the actual shipping of the cooler?
My 45 last year I got as a gift came in before the estimated ship date. It was close but early. I honestly didn't check the ship date on this one. I ordered it and mentally forgot about it. I kept checking it all the time when I got my first one so I decided not to do it on this one, In the order email it does state you can cancel for any reason prior to shipment and receive a full refund. Everyone I have ordered or family has shipped around the 3 month time frame. Give or take. As stated in video the above cooler ordered on 1/27/2016 ----- Shipped on 5/9/2016.
+kevin anderson thanks for the response, mine has since shipped. As for that latch issue, see if you can pull the pin out on the rtic latch and shim it with a nylon washer to tighten it up!
Thanks for the review however I would have preferred a bit more scientific analysis such as internal temperature probes, releasing the water from the unit every certain period and measuring it etc. However this will suffice, I think I will pick the RTIC. Great price on it. Thanks again.
A few people have mentioned warranty, features, accessories, etc. The RTIC 65 has a 7 year warranty and the YETI 65 has a 5 year warranty / Shipping RTIC is Free 2-Day for in stock and YETI is FREE standard when ordered direct. Obviously RTIC issue is stock / RTIC has a 90 day no hassle return and Yeti has a 30 day refund & a 31-60 day store credit. With YETI must be unused & you are responsible for shipping. Once again this is if shipped direct from YETI. YETI had more accessories listed on their website vs RTIC - A few YETI items listed and RIC didn't have was Beverage holder / Fishing Rod Holder / Tie-Down but would work for the RTIC. Seat cushion and some locking features. I have listed both sites below.YETI Accessories - yeticoolers.com/accessories/cooler-accessories/ RTIC Accessories - www.rticcoolers.com/shop/coolers/accessories
RTIC is a copy cat of Yeti. Why don't they do a comparison of which company's have the best ripoffs? Also, RTIC lost a lawsuit against yeti for copying their product lines. Seriously don't give thieving company's air time.
I am not sure how you weighed these coolers, but I have a RTIC 65 on its way to my house and the UPS weight is only 32lbs. You stated that yours is 36lbs...not sure how that is possible or if they changed the design since your video was made.
I bought a 30soft Pak back in Sept.and it's still holding up. Since the lawsuit and RTIC is unloading they old product at a great price to make room for their new design. My pops bought acouple of they coolers in different sizes cuz he fishes alot in the summer.
Hey Kevin, great video man! I have a couple of questions I want to make my own accessories (I.E. 3 rod holder, Rambler cup Holder) for the RTIC 65 but don't have any of the measurements for the bracket that would fit the RTIC 65. I could use the measurements that the Yeti Accessories have but need to know if those measurements are exactly the same. If they aren't the same will you send me some measurements of the handle and accessory gap etc. Thanks man! - Drue (TX Fisherman)
if you want to email me. I'll take a picture of the side tonight with a tape measure so you can see it. This way you have exactly what you want. kevin.dawg@gmail.com
You can actually pull the pin from the side but I elected not to because I've just adjusted when closing it. I have spoke to 3 other owners and no one else has this problem with the handles falling back down.
Roll Tide!!! You and your son did a great job with this. I was so happy with my RTIC 65 that I bought a 20 quart, a 30 can soft, and a 30 oz tumbler and would put them up against any roto cooler on the market.
Funny. Eric - there is always one in our house beeping. I literally have mentally tuned them out. My Father in law comes in and they drive him crazy. I'm like what beeping when he comes in. Haha.....
How does the quality of the RTIC compare....finish, lid seal, handles? what about the lid sealing to the cooler on the RTIC I have seen a few complaints on that as well? Maybe shut the lid with a light inside and check that out
I can only speak from personal experience. I have not had any issues. If the lid doesn't seal as well the ice still lasted longer. My one complaint which is detailed in the video is the RTIC handles would not stay up & the lid would close on them. The Yeti didn't do this.
43 hours and you still haven't changed those batteries in the smoke detector lol
Lmaoooooo dude has hundreds of dollars of coolers but cant afford a $4 battery lol
😂😂😂 but seriously , change the batteries. It could save your life.
Lmao
After hearing it for too long you don’t even notice the sound
😂🤣
ha, i just spent the last 2min waiting for the chirp in my house before realizing it's the video!
I friggin did the same thing! hahaaa
$600 worth of coolers and you can't afford a damn 9v battery for your smoke detector?
Caleb Albers ...shut up...idiot
Bahaha so true.
For real. Change those batteries damn lol
No doubt. I stopped the video just to read the comments to see if anyone else said that lol
@@cagekicker78 same

BioHazard Shrimp is not advertised as a 65 qt. The yeti (65)is a model number.
According to Yeti it is.
The smaller size would have the advantage. Less space to cool.
Val Rossi No...it’s not. They advertise it as 55qt. 65 is the model.
@@traegs8361 Kind of sneaky of them, no? Let's call the 55 qt the model 65.
Your next test should be what battery lasts the longest in a smoke detector
Rich Sbarra hahahsha
Rich Sbarra Either too long or not long enough
Im watching this video 3.5 years later and wondering if your alarm is still beeping... lol
Thanks for taking the time to do this. Nice Job!
The RTIC (beep) seems like the better (beep) cooler in my opinion. This is a fair (beep) test and glad you (beep) guys did it. FOR FUCKS SAKE REPLACE THE BATTERY!!!

Travis bennett LOL
Thanks for taking the time to do this test. It definitely helped me make my decision.
Drinking game. Take a shot every time he slaps the lid of the cooler.
Thanks for making me think my battery was dead on one of my smoke detectors at 1:50 in the morning

I was just getting ready to conduct this very same test! So glad you took care of it for me Kevin! 😂
Bucees sells rtic now instead of Yeti. I don't know if it's because it's local, but that helped me make my decision.
bought a 30oz rtic tumbler and filled it with ice. 30 hours later and not even a 1/4 of it melted. I say it's a very good product for $20
I just received my RTIC tumbler. Looking forward to real testing this coming weekend. Friday-Sunday soccer all day in 90+ heat.

Informative video. I got two of the can koozies this week. They're fantastic.
I was watching this video and my wife came out and told me to go change the battery in our smoke detector. 😂
Great review guy's. I'm a huge fan of Rtic. Nothing against Yeti but to pay half the price and get the same quality or better. I'm just saying.
rene garcia
True. This guy doesn’t understand basic math. More volume area in Rtic is more difficult to keep cold.
Great Father/Son review! Loving my RTIC 45!!! Go Buckeyes!
Actually this was not a fair test as the Rtic was cooling a larger space than the Yeti. Yet the Rtic still outperformed the $400.00 Yeti!!!

I may be a little late to the game. Hows the yeti cooler holding up? Have you experienced any warping on the lid?
great review! Thanks.
Thanks for the detailed info..
How many degrees did it take off by slapping the tops?
Good review! Thanks
Excellent comparison. Thanks for the time you have been a big help. And by the way......Roll Tide!!!

give me a hell yeah Chewy

It's not a smoke detector. It's a smoke alarm.
did you pre condition these coolers?
Thanks for the video. I wish you would have built a fire in the fireplace. Maybe that Roll Tide banner would catch.
Best comparsion RTIC pro NRA, Yeti anti NRA. You decide.

This way you have exactly what you want. kevin.dawg@gmail.com
the 1 yr warranty of the RTIC cooler is worrisome vs. the 5 yr warranty of the YETI
How did you tighten the handles on your RTIC?
You can actually pull the pin from the side but I elected not to because I've just adjusted when closing it. I have spoke to 3 other owners and no one else has this problem with the handles falling back down.
Did your RTIC ship the day of the estimate ship date?
Thanks dude, I have been wanting a good cooler and I heard there are good ones out there that compare to yeti. Seems like the Rtic is the way to go
Man I feel like you'd sell the hell out of patio furniture
L. Downer hahahaha
Roll Tide!!! You and your son did a great job with this. I was so happy with my RTIC 65 that I bought a 20 quart, a 30 can soft, and a 30 oz tumbler and would put them up against any roto cooler on the market.
Only reason people buy yeti. Just want to be the coolest cooler guy.
Those days are over I would laugh at anybody with a new Yeti. LOL
Im buying for the less weight and size...
What in the blazes is the f-in beeping noise?
Thanks for the video. Was ready to buy a Yeti yesterday until they announced breaking ties with the NRA. So Yeti just lost a lot of business
Funny. Eric - there is always one in our house beeping. I literally have mentally tuned them out. My Father in law comes in and they drive him crazy. I'm like what beeping when he comes in. Haha.....
I don't think anyone was wondering...
son of kevin! bloopers were a nice touch
after viewing your video, I will purchase the rtic for my needs and budget. that's all that matters.
