I agree with Lincoln. That seems like a huge price jump for an extra layer of foam and a fancy lock. Awesome video!
The 400$ one
Same
Stuart Edge!!! What are you doing here!!
Stuart Edge but the yeti really live up to the hype we’ve had one for about a year and we just bought another bc it worked so well
Stuart Edge I
Buy the 50 dollar cooler and 350 dollars of beer.
this guy coolers.
Splendid Plan👍 Off to the beer store I go. Saved a bundle of 💰. Cheers.
A $5.00 can of "great stuff" low expansion spray foam, makes any cheap cooler perform 4 times better. Just drill a few holes on the inside, insert the tube, and spray away. One can will do 3 to 4 coolers, so round up all your friends coolers too, and they'll love you for the upgrade!! This made an unbelievable difference!
Hell yea lol
you can waste money on ice or a cooler...Fixing up a cheap cooler is father and son bonding!!! JUST DON'T SAY BUT-TON!!!
So thicker plastic is worth $350?... Actually $50 worth of plastic and foam... $250 worth of hype and $100 for Yeti label... Marketing at its finest.
What's the composition of the plastic & insulation in the Yeti vs the other cooler though? It's all about material science now and the Yeti clearly works way better when it comes to keeping things cool.
I bet the yeti costs about $3 to manufacture.....Branding is everything
Definitely
They should really lower their prices
Stop the gimmicks
@@Rckstrroma5 What gimmicks?
In mass production, that is not nearly $50 worth of plastic and foam.
I use a Colman cooler but have injected foam into the lid to help retain the cold and it works great.
We have a Yeti. Bought it for my husband for an anniversary present several years ago. It's only bear proof with a padlock. It's great for boondocking in remote locations. Goes about 4 or 5 days without an ice refill. Before he would have to run get ice twice a day. He also uses it to store freezer contents when he defrosts it. He enjoys it. It is super heavy.
We’ve had ice hold up for 3 days in mid-summer heat from our 65. The larger ones seem to retain ice better (the Roadie 20 is more of a day cooler). As you said, they’re super heavy.
Yeti is for people who want others to know they have money to burn. It has more plastic. Plastic is incredibly cheap. The price is an insult.....but if they can fool people into paying it, well, there's one born every minute.
I have been using a Rubbermaid cooler for my lunches at work for 25 years. I can put warm cans of water in it with an ice pack and about 45 minutes later it's like it came out of the fridge. It will keep ice for a couple days, sometimes 3 days. I paid $14 for it 25 years ago. If there are more people who will pay that kind of money for cheap plastic and insulation.....I am in the wrong business. The profit margin is astounding!I also have a couple large Igloo coolers for fishing trips. They are very large coolers, and I paid maybe $35 for each of them. They will keep fish packed in ice for a couple days. Don't need to pay "too much" to get what I need. People have to realize a lot of brands are this way......not really different for the amount of price they have.
1001Hobbies They probably have a YETI bumper sticker on their unnecessary large pickup.
1001Hobbies not disagreeing on the price, but I DO have friends in the plastics industry, and know that Yeti has like a 70% scrap rate when it comes to their stuff, meaning only about 30% of what is made is actually hitting store shelves. Roto Molding is not super easy and is very labor intensive.
I have to disagree, the quality of a yeti out performs any of the other manufactures on the market. My yeti cup can simply keep ice drink cold for up to 24 hours with no problems. PS there is no plastic in my cup. I would pay more for a quality coole
r but not that much, I'll wait for prices to come down.
My igloo cooler keeps ice and fish for over 2 nights, and there is still ice. That is a BIG cooler and it cost only about $45. My Rubbermaid that I've used for lunch for 25 years easily keeps things cold for over 24 hours. It cost about $14 then, about $18 - $20 now. I can see no way why anyone would pay over $50 to get the same performance.
Yeti's aren't for everyone, but there more than a few lines of work or hobbies where they are a totally must have. I've had ice in one for over 10 days.
Always did think Yeti was over priced, You guys proved it
this silly video proved nothing. If you do not understand the U = 1/R, and understand the R value of different foams, you will not understand that the much lower U of the Yeti comes at the cost of a much more expensive foam chemistry.
I’m a contractor in Florida and my yeti keeps the same ice for 3-4 days of drinks for me and my guys in 100 degree weather. Never had any other cooler make it past lunch on those sweltering days unless I did a 3/1 ice to drink ratio which just made us refill it more and melt the ice faster. Plus with the yeti ice packs and our freezer making some ice as well I haven’t had to buy ice in years now. I think $400 Is a little steep but it’s certainly worth $250-300 based on performance and durability alone
Now cut open lifetime cooler, otter box cooler, and the Walmart one to compare to the yeti cooler.
Now put it back together with Flex Tape and sell it on Ebay.
When I go camping, my number 1 concern is bears getting my food, if they get at me or my family though, not that big of a deal.
@Whisky Whisky hahahahaha
I get heavy duty styrofoam coolers from the doctors office with ice packs. When I go camping I find a shaded area than put a short umbrella over the cooler to further shade it. It works better than any of the dozen store bought coolers I own.
The way he says button
sounds so forced
Lisa Marie You should hear the way I SAY button.. As in "I want to kiss your button"
Butt in
Lisa Marie the way your face look😍
It’s what happens when you’re from Utah but want to sound like a normal person
Most Name Brand products you are paying for THE NAME not the actual product quality, some are worth the price and are sensible, but others you are just paying for the name alone.
I remember some company sold a boomerang and it was an expensive piece of wood with the logo/brand name on it and it preformed horribly in comparison to a cheaper but more effective boomerang on this channel
Yea
Supreme boomerang
Yea I saw that vid to
Yea but the yeti will actually keep ice in that cooler for a week or two. Its not a gimmick
It's like paying for a supreme shirt vs a 1 dollar shirt from the dollar store
If I gotta spend $400.00 for a cooler to protect a $5.00 sandwich from a bear, I'd need my head examined. I have yeti to buy a Yeti.
Haha
Most state parks do not let you have coolers unless they are bear proof.
It’s actually to protect the bears. Once they get food from human areas they keep coming back and get more aggressive, it’s they’re style of foraging. So most bears that succeed get put down immediately. It’s like once an animal taste human blood kinda thing.
@@donjuandemarco4115 I also figured if it was used for camping and everyone took a hike or something then the beat couldnt get at the food
Thanks a lot, you helped millions of people saves their hard earned money. As a trucker, cooler container is a must for me as I don’t have a fridge.
I would just buy the cheap cooler and get some expanding foam and put it in the top
Save $350 and get to play with expanding foam. Profit?
How tf would you put it in there with out cutting it open
Enduro rider drill a couple holes them reseal them..
That’d work. Still wouldn’t compete with a yeti though
Engineer 7 not as simple as you think. Been there done that. In fact 2 of those coolers sit in my truck currently as beaters. No amount of foam, insulation or foam tape made any of my cooler a 5 day cooler let alone 3 days. I still have ice in my Kysek.
Do what I do, get the foam ones, put the lid on and spray paint bedliner on it (not the rubber undercoating). You can spray as much as you want and get it as thick or thicker than the yeti.
Yeti coolers are trendy nowadays so people will spend big bucks to fit in with the sheep.
Beaverj420 yup
That's a lot of money for foam & plastic, compared to others out there that are just as good for $150.00 less or more.
Just bought that same size yeti for $250. Btw the plastic has insulating material in it as well. You can put ice in a yeti and it’ll keep whatever is inside cool for like 4 days. An igloo on the other lasts maybe a day and a half...
No, my $60 ice chest keeps ice for five days and by then we are heading home.
Edward Lucero No it doesn’t.
@@arcamedies1035 exactly. Lots of folks lie their butts off. I wouldn't pay 400$ for a yeti but any rotomold cooler will outdo any budget cooler
“I can make a hole. It’s a little tigh... erm stronger..” nice save lol
I have the same yeti. The tundra 50, same color. If you have a reason to use a cooler regularly it’s the only way to go. If you’re just a weekender then go with the $50 one. I almost cried watching this get cut in half though!!!
Greg Burns best comment I've seen. Depends on your usage. I rarely use a cooler so a cheap one works. But if I did use it a ton and for extended periods, would definitely go for the yeti.
Tory Almond yeah I spend summers off grid so cold drinks stay cold a week in this particular yeti. Also, as a Maine Guide, I use coolers often and also want that brand recognition!! I have a house full of yeti products.
Or get an Rtic for half the price
Dustin Roberson I know three different people who owned RTIC coolers. Key word OWNED. all three after a week in 95+ degree heat began to form massive bubbles and bulges and soon wouldn't hold ice any longer than a cheap lunchbox. Seals also leak on them when they're practically brand new. You get what you pay for. Half the price half the cooler.
Never had any issues and never heard of anyone having any issues. If it has YETI on it, it's overpriced. From the cups to the coolers.
The difference is in the lid. The Yeti has a rubber gasket which seals the cooler from getting warmer air seeping in and the lid is also insulated. If the cooler is outside in the sun heat can eventually warm the lid and pass through to whatever is inside. The Yeti lid has the thickest insulation. So the sun beating down on it all day won't let the heat transfer inside. The Yeti is for when you need to keep thing cold for days out in the wilderness and a standard cooler is made to keep thing cold for an afternoon picnic. If I went camping frequently for a few days at a time I'd invest in a similar cooler to the Yeti.
That is true for those two in particular but how bout comparing it to others with a casket. I don't overly shop around but Walmart makes there own brand with a casket and bear proof. Still probably 100$ as I'm sure others do as well. Why not compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges?
I personally use yetis and I can never go back they keep stuff frozen for ever and are great for long fishing trips. They are also great seats while hunting , and great platforms for sight fishing .
The kids right, no way lol 350 dollars more to look cool
The insulated lid probably helps a top keeping the inside colder longer. Just buy a cheap cooler and fill the lid with expanding foam.
But the yeti comes with a sticker people put on their trucks !
So it’s worth it..
The test should be which works the best, not the construction, it might be the little things that make the difference, like how the lid fits or how the body does not flex when moved, how the catches keep the seal. It do't know if it makes any difference, but thats the test, fill with ice see which keeps the ice the longest.
It’s the yeti name every one wants ,it’s not about how good the cooler is. Good ads can sell a bucket that has a hole in the bottom and will not hold water
I’m glad you guys did this my wife has itching on getting a yeti but I don’t think it’s worth 350 or whatever but this is America where people just love labels
I have the $50 cooler and insulated the lid myself for $9. Works great
I have a high-quality cooler and will never look back. I go on vacations with my family for five days in the woods. A cooler of this quality is the same price as a single night at a hotel with dinner. I don’t need my camping vacation ruined by a crappy cooler that breaks or does not perform as well. It’s all a matter of perspective.
after watching this, the biggest difference is the seal the Yeti has and no proper seal on the coleman’s
So many how to videos of drilling holes in the lid and fill with foam to get the 400 dollar cooler performance
People buy a Yeti because it’s a class symbol. When I see someone with a Yeti an old saying comes to mind, a fool and his money are soon parted. I bought a 3 piece cooler set over 45 years ago for around $20. I still have it and looks and works like news. So maybe I had to buy an extra $1 bag of ice a couple of times but maybe not.
A $60 Coleman will keep ice as long as a YETI in 100 degree heat . I've already done it.
Safety THIRD is my motto! 🤣
I hoping that u were gonna test the both out BEFORE cutting them open
The yeti can keep ice cream frozen with artic ice pack for frozen stuff. Cheap cooler not so much
You said at the start the yeti was amazing and kept burgers frozen so it does the job! Yet you say you don’t see the difference in a yeti and a cheap cooler?
I think the price difference is really because of the really cool YETI emblem on the bottom. After all, everyone needs an emblem on the bottom...
one thing I can say about the yeti it is bearproof had one kicked it all over front porch could not get in
Unless I needed the cooler every day for a long time, then in the long run it pays cause less ice is used, otherwise if only used for a short period, then the cheap cooler is better
The thicker plastic is nice, should hold up over time. Hype, yes. Yeah, why isn't the lid of the Coleman insulated...crazy.
The RTIC version is $130 sooo less than half😂 exact same cooler, metal handle and two places for locks for “bears”.
Similar to that $400 Jordan jacket and $50 Magellan jacket. Brand name✅️.
$400= $50 cooler + $350 shotgun=bearproof.
The most expensive plastic/foam on the planet earth
If you need a cooler to keep your beer cold for longer than a day or two, your drinking too slow lol.
Nah it’s so it can hold the ice for longer so you can spend more money on beer or whatever your drinking and less on ice
Amen!
@Orion well not with that attitude!
Ok alcoholic
This is my favorite youtube comment ever. Js.
I took a $1 styrofoam cooler and wrote "YETI" on it with a Sharpie. I always get a lot of encouraging comments at the beach.
You are my new hero.
A $5.00 can of "great stuff" low expansion spray foam, makes any cheap cooler perform 4 times better. Just drill a few holes on the inside, insert the tube, and spray away. As an added benefit, no scumbag will steal it it's left in the back of a truck!
hahahah
Lmao!! Good one!!
for $400 it should have a compressor and refrigerant to keep everything cool
100% agree Jamesbdm.....We just got a Igloo countertop Icemaker (makes 48 lbs/day) for $140....we NEVER run out of ice here lol....
Lol my refridgerator cost 500 new from costco. $400 cooler, da fuuuu?????
I can get a nice stainless steel one of those for $99. For $300 I could probably get a decent solar setup that may power it for a part of the day...
BreadAndGatorade
the last refrigerator I bought was 1999. I paid $400. it works great.
Yeah but then it'd cost $800 and weigh about 300lbs
It's only worth $400.00 because people are willing to spend the $400.00.
I would have been more interested in seeing it compared to a Coleman 5 day cooler, which actually has outperformed the Yeti in some comparison videos. Or even a Coleman 6 day cooler
No they dont...lol
@@zune911 Based on what? Your opinion? Go watch the comparison videos out there for yourself
@@tommy35ss I've seen the video, and the yeti is larger. Either way, I have yeti, grizzly, rtic, coho, igloo all in my garage. We use them rafting most of the summer, for trips that last up to 7 days. I can assure you, any rotomolded cooler will outperform the igloos and colemans. Not just yeti. Not to mention, rotomolded coolers will outlive the colemens/igloos 10X
@@zune911 Wasn't referring to durability, I was referring to insulation capability. Obviously many of the Yetis and similar brands are going to be much stronger
@@tommy35ss even ice retention though. If I only used it for the weekend, I don't disagree with your statement. When you are pushing these coolers to the max though, I can get 7 to 10 days in the rotomolded coolers if prepped properly. My igloo 7 day runs out by day 5. Great value for the money, but doesn't keep the food cold enough for the week. So it only stores the beer :)
Now the big question, can you put them back together with ''Flex Tape?'' ..... Woo-hoo!
That there is some funny S#@T,,,,,,,,,,,
Yessssss!
Thatsa lotta damage
Extra $10 on materials. The rest is design and marketing value.
Except it is way more then $10 more, that amount of extra plastic alone adds up. The Igloo was on sale and probably cost 60-80 normally and had thin plastic all around compared to the thickness in the Yeti. I understand the price difference is large, but anyone that does long-term outdoors events and camping appreciate a cooler that can keep ice for upwards of a week. There are other brands that are cheaper but also overbuilt like the Yeti. Some also use it to keep elk or boar meat fresh on the trip home.
@@Bound4Earth Not when you buy plastic in enormous quantities it doesn't lol
@@Bound4Earth you think of anything to help you sleep at night boo boo
Dirk Diggler the yeti does actually leak if tipped over... it isn’t a complete airtight because it’s meant to be packed with dry ice to keep the items cold for longer
Now you need Flex Seal and put it back together new video on that lol
Yes

CJLKPLAYS yetis are proven to work and work very well. My roadie and 35 always keeps my drinks cool for 5-7 days. Better than any igloo or Coleman.
What's inside??? 10$ more worth of foam.
sooo... drill some holes in the cheaper cooler lid.. fill it with spray foam toss some cheap gasket on the seal.. save myself 300 bucks?
My thoughts exactly !
How you gonna replace the thicker plastic. Maybe that's the trick.
@@michaelhcoleman8450 that's too much work. Just buy a decent cooler with a good gasket and good seals and thick. It will get the job done. I bought a 50qt Magellan cooler (store brand) from sports academy for $150. It's performance is just short of the Yeti itself. Meaning that the difference isn't big!
@@miguelrobb5719 too much work? You must make more than $200/hour. That's crazy.

Use flex tape to make it work again
Mr Clutch I cut this boat in half hahaha yeah doggy
Lol. Or flex seal.
heres another cheap trick.. buy a 2 dollar styrofoam cooler.. put it in your coleman cooler and get better results than a yeti
johnny llooddte, but that won’t be bear proof!! Lol
Good idea. I might try that.
johnny llooddte very smart
You livin in 3018
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Just put a styrofoam cooler inside a cheap plastic cooler, put some ratchet straps around it and boom, cheaper bear proof double insulted cooler for under 100 bucks
TenLettersRap
I came up with the same idea...and it is gonna beat yeti like a performance
Then bring it to montana and watch a grizzly rip it apart.
But bears know how to use ratchet straps. They steal people's quads all the time.
A bear stole my Jeep once.
I was always suspicious of the Yeti products, suspension confirmed. I’m glad I never bought any.
It's not a bad product, it's just outrageously overpriced.
Mike Mo that was my suspicion, way over priced.
I own a couple of these yeti coolers. There is no cooler that can compare with its durability and length it keeps items cold. Even out in the sun all day at the beach it will keep ice all day. I can drop it off the back of my truck fully loaded and it won’t crack or open. This is cooler to keep. Those $50 you will most likely replace every year due to them breaking where as the yeti will last much longer. Mine are going on 5 years now. So in my opinion the realistic question is do you want to spend $400 once or spend $50 a year on coolers and spend more on ice
Nicolas San Roman Yetis are great coolers, but to say no other cooler compares is far from the truth. There are about twenty other brands doing it as good or better. Some of them being a fraction of the cost.
Nicolas San Roman I have bought my cheap Coleman cooler in 2008 and it's still perfect. I've been to deserts, mountains, hunting, beaches. I try not to abuse it and take care of it - no doubt the yeti could take more abuse but come on, 400$ are you kidding me. Not to count the much thicker walls is much less payload for the same external size - that is a huge deal breaker.
The big styrofoam box my omaha steaks came in has thicker walls.
And it came full of steaks for the price of the yeti!
Find someone to cover it in plastic and put some hinges on it and you have your own Yeti
Do you have a picture of your ice chest
Could you do the yeti competitor from Walmart called the Ozark Trail? Pretty cool video. You've actually helped me in my decision.
Iguhc I have Yeti’s but my best friends dad has an ozark trail and he loves it!! Seems pretty good
Elliott Davis Thanks for the feedback.
Iguhc forsure brother or sister whatever you are lol
I have always had Yeti's and last year I went out and bought an Ozark trail just because it was cheaper and withing a day the seal leaked and spilled water all in my trunk, needless to say i will be sticking with Yeti
@Hoosier Hillbilly ozark trail is Walmart's brand.
Clearly a better product, but nowhere near $400 in value. That's 8 times the price!
Siberian Orange and only 28$ to make
Siberian Orange it's only going to last 8 times as long
I used to buy a 50 cooler about every year . Tearing handles off or the lid falling off. I've had the same yeti for 10 years and still looks new. . Doesn't sound to bad in the long haul
Justbill lol I'm going to get that it wouldn't make it through a beer drinking weekend with my buddies
That much open cell foam is more than $28
But the Yeti comes with a sticker for your truck!
lol exactly
Toss in some truck-nutz and you got a deal!
OOOOOOH, Stickers 😋 so your, like, 3years old 🙄?
MURICA
Love it! LOL!
I’m a Coleman cooler man myself: have one that’s going on 15 years old and been tossed in the boat hundreds of times, bounced around in the truck bed etc and still going strong.
Natedoc808 I’m lucky to get 5 years out of my Coleman coolers. The handles break, the drain plug breaks, then the hinges break.
Mine ???20 yrs old???? Spent the last 4 yrs in my open truck bed. Only thing wrong is the drain plug.
As a current Coleman Employee i must apoligize for the drains. Idk if all locations are the same as mine but we have little time to get it all right. My facility specifically likes quantity over quality as well so its quite difficult to balance them with all the work the lines must do in a short period of time
350$ more for a quarter inch more plastic, slightly more foam, a rubber gasket, and locking latches... ah yes, what a truly novel investment...
If that guy says butt-ton one more time...
hah! i noticed he started with the other weird way people pronounce that word: "buh-ehn" then a moment later he switched to saying "butt-tehn" after realizing he said it. somebody has corrected him in the past and he's self-conscious now.

Lol...I noticed that too!
$400 cooler? Makes me think of the old adage, some lures are designed to lure fish, and some are designed to lure fisherman.
Nimbly Never heard that saying before- well put! Going to have to add that onto my list of old man sayings...
Well said....
You should have done a test to see which would keep a bag of ice from melting all the way...
MyWasteOfTime my father owns a yeti cooler and I can assure you the ice last substantially longer 2-3x longer.
EDIT: the ice last around 3 days in his yeti depending on how much you open it.
bag of ice is about $1.50 cheaper to dump out the ice and get more ice and save money
Shawn Johnson can’t get more ice when you’re in the woods
Adam Moore OR 30 miles off shore.
In room temp coolers the yeti will kill a single bag of ice quicker because it has more material density to cool. If the ice chests were voth pre chilled the yet would last 3x-5x longer
When I see the Yeti brand, I think of Dyson. Nice product but overpriced. I avoid both.
True. RTIC coolers can be up to $150 cheaper than there yeti competition and almost every test video i have seem the RTIC does better.
Or APPLE
@Jon Doe
i like your dyson thought. money not being a option but dyson motors are good, not great. hover, brisel have patents on their motors. they are the best hands down. all others are for show..... yeti is dyson..lol
Never personally owned a Yeti cooler. I have friends who have them and they swear they can go a week without loosing ice. Of course...IT ALL DEPENDS on how often you access the cooler though. If you have beer in the cooler the ice wont last because it will be opened constantly until the beer is gone...then you have to add beer, etc. If you put vitamin water in it, it will never be opened and it will last much longer...regardless of the cooler brand ------
If you put La Croix in it, it'll stay closed until post-apocalyptic scavengers unearth it.
The obvious test is to determine how long each will keep the inside to 40 deg F. Then, you decide which is more economical for your use. I suggest the most cost efficient solution is have a smaller cooler inside a larger cooler. Insert additional foam insulation between the two. Now, you have more than double the insulation which will keep your inside temperature to 40 deg F much much longer.
It says bear RESISTANT not bear proof, just means that it's easy to open for Yogi Bear
(smarter than the average bear)
They're only bearproof when padlocked. Bears are really smart, definitely smart enough to get those latches open. Just not smart enough to pick locks.
Yet.
I was just going to say that. He should have read the manual before saying it was bear proof without the locks.
Yet....
I've never seen anything a bear could not open
Yep.. They also have learned over time in national parks from the frequent visitors for decades how to break into peoples cars when they are out hiking and jack your lunch
Maybe he has a friend they call bear, and he just not very bright...
It always depends on what you are using a cooler for. With me, I got a cooler because we have had power outages that have lasted 10 days and an expensive cooler is already paid for the first time you don't have to throw out all of the food in the fridge. I also wanted it for long car trips. I have driven cross country 5 times and being able to really trust that the food will still be good at the end of a week is important. Also for longer camping trips. That versus people who just bought a cooler for drives to the beach. When I was younger, I always bought the cheap ones. But I have ended up buying multiple cheap ones and losing multiple refrigerator loads of food and at my age, I look back and would say to myself, "Get a good cooler the first time" It doesn't have to be a Yeti, but one that will hold ice for 10 days.
You wouldn’t spend 400 dollars on a cooler, but you’d spend about 200 dollars on a child’s jacket?....
Beer < children. I thought this was common knowledge?
FYI...to be bear proof pad locks must be used in the corners or bolts. Not just the rubber latches.
I would spend some money on foam and inject it in the lid of the cheap box. ;-)
I was thinking the same thing. Can you make a video? :)
@TgixPK There are many videos on how to simulate a yeti cooler.
Cold air falls. No need for foam in the lid.
@Jun, cold air may fall, but the lid without insulation acts as a green house and warms the air from the radiant heat. Adding insulation in the lid will help greatly.
I've done it. It helps some but not by much.
Even though I liked the video what was nicest was the way that your son looked at you. You can see that he loves and admires his father and that he is very happy to be there doing things with you. Keep up the great work !
Would you cut open a Walmart Ozark Trail cooler and compared to the Yeti?
yea, would ya?
rodv66 totally agree! I was looking for a comparison of the Lifetime cooler at Walmart for $99 versus the Yeti.
@@sloscheider I personally own a lifetime 55qt cooler. It does hold ice longer than most cheaper coolers and their customer service is amazing. I bought one a year ago and I noticed the front top was warped a little bit, started looking on Google and found I wasn't alone and that lifetime had redesigned the cooler to improve some issues. Contacted lifetime because it has a lifetime warranty and they sent me a brand new one at no cost to me! With that kind of customer service, I will definitely buy lifetime products again.
we almost bought a yeti the other day. but just can't justify spending that much on a cooler. great vid!
Good call. Unless you are camping fir a week straight in the mountains, I don’t see the point.
I believe there are knockoff versions of the yeti that look almost exactly the same and is likely made of the same materials.
What's Inside? You should take a look at the test done by UA-camr Taras Kul who put a similar amount in the Yeti and the $20 cheap one, and you’ll see that half of the ice in the Yeti is still there after two days and all of the ice in the cheap one is gone after 34 hours.
cabelas version is a better buy
Stefan Unson I’ve seen yeti’s hold full ice cubes for a week
Igloo best value and was in the top for performance over 5 days of keeping ice. Yeti is strictly for yuppie status or to show your ignorance.
Baloney. I have a Yeti and I have cheap coolers. If you never venture out for more than a day the cheap cooler is just fine. But the Yeti will keep food cold for 5 days or more depending on how you use it.
Wow you're a hater of people that can afford a good product. I have a YETI and it is by far the best cooler I've owned that includes RTIC. I frequently go camping for extended periods and to warm climates. Ice for a week, no questions asked. Well worth the money its a lifetime cooler.
Buying a yeti cooler definitely shows ignorance lol spending that kind of money on a cooler is dumb.
Kayla Tanner just because you don’t have money you say it’s dumb. So buying a $45000 Avalon is dumb because you can get an Altima for $25000. You’re a hater because you don’t have
steve goebel no hater here! I just don’t see the need to blow money on unnecessary items. And yes I do have the money “if” I wanted to buy one. But I don’t like to be flashy lol
So an extra can of expanda foam is the difference, and thicker plastic
I was thinking the same thing. A small hole and a can of great stuff.
i wonder if it works
It's absurd what companies charge for products these days. As consumers we need to take a stand and not buy this crap so they bring down the price to something reasonable.
I wonder if the thicker plastic has much insulation value or if it's just for sturdiness? I'm leaning towards the latter
There is also the gasket seal on the lid of the Yeti, however you could add one to any cooler I'd think.
I would like to see this cut open and compared to something similar but less expensive like maybe the Ozark Trail cooler, they have one that's supposed to be as good as the yeti
they will all be the same. use your imagination
I don't think it really matters what it looks like on the inside. Just looking at it with the naked eye doesn't tell you if they used different insulation or different manufacturing techniques that are more efficient. The fact is that the yeti is way more efficient. People have tested yetis vs knock off brands and the yeti wins every time.
I have multiple Walmart "yeti" soft coolers. There are very good. I never had the urge to buy a real yeti after using Walmarts version.
The $50 cooler makes the Yeti seem to be ‘worth’ about $75 or so. Even $100 but the four hundred dollar tag (~$300 on sale) is way out of line.
Who cares what's on the inside. The yeti is way more efficient than the $50 cooler. I like mine so much I bought two. I used to refill ice everyday now it can last almost a full week. For what I do that's worth an extra $350 to me.
Why does a round pizza come in a square box
Answer: I have no idea
Aditya yes probably
Don't forget that the slices are triangle.
that's just the man "cutting corners"
_NamelessEngine_ because it’s cheaper to make a square box then a round one
As was said, it’s cheaper and easier to make. It is also easier to store and deliver the boxes as circular boxes can’t be flattened and unflattened without being destroyed.
Definitely the Yeti is a better built product but not enough to be worth $400.
Yeah, and little chances your meeting a bear too.
@@DannyKechik_the_dizzydaisy if you aint got bears in camp, you aint campin..
I agree..... for most people. If you need something really rugged the Yeti or a knockoff might be worth the investment. Average family camping or day at the beach a cheap cooler is just fine.
I drive truck and see a number of trucks that have a Yeti secured to the catwalk behind the cab. Something facing that abuse needs to be solid and robust. Me, I have a cooler sized (65 qt) portable freezer/refrigerator in my truck that runs on either 12vdc or 120vac and adjusts from -6° to 50° and uses very little power..... and no ice. Cost me about $600 but has saved me more than that in bags of ice over the last two years.
After seeing this I'd buy the $50 cooler, drill a hole somewhere inconspicuous in the lid and inject some spray foam into the lid to help insulate the top. That should help it hold ice longer, maybe not as long as the Yeti but also no as expensive as the Yeti either.
exactly
I’ve done that, and it makes all the difference in the world. It’s all about the top being insulated. In my cheaper, Coleman coolers I’m actually thrown a layer of plastic and a small poly blanket over the top and that makes all the difference in the world too. So buying a cheaper cooler and doing expandable foam into the hollow top will turn it. Almost into a yeti. Not quite but good enough.
I had to just bypass these coolers and purchased a ARB fridge way back in 2011, I still use it almost daily and it's works like a champ. and can you just imagine the cost of years of ice everyday.
Sojourn Overland ARB fridges are amazing if you have access to electricity, and if you’re using it every day then yes, great investment. Yetis work well with ice if you’re not using them every day.
You mean the cost of ice every week?
ARB fridge run about an average of 8w. Pretty crazy.
Can you imagine the cost in power and water your paying to get said ice? Man... Peeps don't think.
Same. I bought a used Engel 45 off CL about seven years ago... $500. The thing is bulletproof and only draws a couple amps. And no soggy food.
Colman makes a cooler with thicker walls that has about the same amount of insulation as the yeti for a whole lot less money, the plastic probably isn't as thick but is a thicker shell really worth an extra $350.00 to most people.
Actually it's worth the $400 because you get a sticker that you can put on your vehicle to tell the world that you're really serious about coolers. The looks you'll get from others on the road, priceless. Does that thing got a hemi? No, its got a yeti you poor igloo buyer.
Take that sissy Yeti sticker off your vehicle and replace it with an NRA sticker.
Haha
it tells the world that you're serious about not bothering to research competing products and that you can be sold trendy overpriced products.
contractors will love exploiting you when giving bids.
I use a larger igloo and find a styro foam cooler that fits inside . Works like a charm !
Make two holes on each end of igloo top and use the foam can to fill the lid with foam.
I have done this to all my ice chest. Works awesome.
Ive done that. It definitely works an spray foam is much cheaper than a Yeti
I do the foam lid thing to my cheap coolers. drill 1 hole for insertion of foam, and 1 on each side (total of 4 holes) allowing foam to expand and subside. Failure to drill the 4 holes can lead to the lid distorting and not sitting in the cooler body properly.
Is a Yeti polar-bear proof or grizzly bear proof ? I am sure the Igloo is panda bear proof
I have used both coolers for long periods of time and looked up compare videos where they use the yeti and cheap coolers to see how long they hold ice. Yetti always comes in the top 5 of best coolers. however paying $400 is $200 cooler and $200 brand name.
is it worth it??? depends on how much you'll use it.
