Technically when they test it their 5 day test is based on the sane way you did out. Once a day check that way you get the maximum time out of it.

Brentavious I use ice packs bc they are easier, but when i forget to freeze them and get ice, it is actually much colder and lasts longer

Coleman makes the same Xtreme cooler in a marine grade that comes with stainless steel hinges. Got mine at walmart for $55

Yeah, I got a camo/green one just like it and I got no complaints except it don't have latches. Its been a great cooler.
I get all my coolers for free from the ditches on the road to the lake after they blow out of boats and trucks. usually the lids to the Coleman's are a mile from the cooler. I just save em up and eventually find a match.

The coleman did a great job but keep in mind that it is 70 something quarts while the others are 50ish quarts. So there was more ice to keep it cold.

The irony is that needing these coolers to remain cold inside after a few days means that the people who own them don't drink fast enough to justify having coolers this size to begin with.

thanks for the cooler test man. my probelm never was keeping something cold or keeping ice a long time, no matter what cooler it was, but all have been cheap ones. my problem has been the durablity. leave one of those coleman or igloos out in the sun a couple of weeks, the plastic will actually crack, the lids warp and bend. ive thrown catfish in the bottom of a coleman extreme and punched holes in the with the fins. the sun really kills em, im on the river a whole lot and if a fat man sits on one or you put 100 pounds in one, things start breaking. just thin cheap molded plastic. i just have not had 200 or 300 bucks to throw at one of the better built coolers that can withstand the sun and weight and outdoor conditions. if you have a 30 dollar cooler at home and it never leaves your house it will probally last years and years. but i get about 2 seasons out of one and thats about it using them for hunting and fishing. you get what you pay for i guess,but i still dont think yeti coolers are worth the price tag. thanks for posting and thats good to know about the comparison
Thanks dude. I have an Extreme that I have used for three deer seasons. I fill it up on Wed. or Thurs. and go hunting. I come home on Sunday afternoon. If I kill a deer I pack it in what I have left. If I don't I put it in a big bag that goes in a deep freeze. It's the best for the money no doubt. That real world stuff. I'm not buying a Yeti just because everybody that thinks they are somebody has one. They are just being stupid. Your test adds weight.
Mike Mixon I agree with your reason for not buying a Yeti. For me, it's the principle of the thing. I'm not out to make a statement with the kind of cooler I have and frankly, I don't associate with people who are. I'll find better things to do with my hard earned money.

Truth is most coolers when being used get opened 10 times a day or more and often hot drinks are added so the ice wont last long in any of them.
I paid $18 for that Coleman on sale!

Just got back from camping in Oklahoma with the Coleman 70qt. It's a badass cooler - ice cold beer and food for three days on three bundles of ice. For $38 it's a hell of a buy imo.

But I'll tell ya, that Coleman is like the Ford Ranger of coolers....it's nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done. I do wish they'd look at those hinges, easy to re-engineer. Hell, "Bear Proofing" is as easy as putting a bike chain around a cooler...totally not worth the added cost.

Highly entertaining!!! Got YETI 105 as an early Father's Day from the family and it lasted the weekend on the lake getting in and out of it umpteen times for food and drinks. RTIC was my first choice but they are on back order until August online and no dealers with them here.
I'm going to get an RTIC 45. I already returned the Ozark Trail.

Cool test. I bought this same ozark trail ice chest and keep it in my work van. Mine doesnt leak lile yours buy i made sure to tighten all the plugs. I put ice in on monday and refill it on thursday. Thats in a hot van all day and me going in it all day long. When i fill it on thursday it still has ice in it but i dont like all the water sloshing around when i drive.

Did you fix the leak? I bought the Ozark because of price point and it seems durable. What I did before putting in any ice was take out the entire plug assembly and put on a light coating of magic lube teflon lubricant. I put it around the big gasket and also inside of the cap on the small O-ring. Hand tight back in and zero leaks. It won't degrade the rubber seals.

I purchaesd an Orca awhile back because it has thicker insulation than the yeti and it was on sale and came with the updated rubber orca tails for calmps. It worked great out in the high temps for several days.

Hey just bought a 50 dollar Coleman cooler at home depot to put on my company work truck . Put 4 bags of ice in it on a Tuesday along with drinks and water bottles keeping the plug out it still has plenty of ice in it and it's Friday along with the cooler outside in the sun all day . I'm very impressed with the Coleman

I have that Ozark Trail 52 Quart cooler mounted and locked down to my Rola cargo basket on my RAM PMC camper van. It’s good shit here in South, Texas. Lasts 3 to 4 days in Texas heat, out in the sun all day.
I get ice for free at my work location, so I don’t worry about the price of ice. I just drain and refill the cooler twice a week. Works for me. 🤷🏻♂️
I got the same Ozark trail and I had the same issue, but I realized the the plug wasn't tight outside like you did and then I checked the inside and it wasn't tight in there as well, so check that too because I've had mine for over a year and after I fixed thst shit it's great
