Yeah, Mothership is just an all around awesome album. Inspire the Liars will be a treat. Btw he also should check out the singles not on an album like Summertime Gladness (summer feelings pure), Head Hunter, Blood Wolf and so on.
5:10. This Is the original recordings they just changed the sound in production. The original Acceptance Speech was the only album to have a different producer, Kris Crummett produces all their albums so this is just his version pretty much. The original is a bit muddier and you really cant hear the guitars very well in a lot of the songs. Overall 2.0 bangs!
Personally, while the production is clearer in 2.0 and a bit muddier in the original, I think that sometimes the original mix is better despite being less refined. The Weeknd trilogy is a good example and I think that this is too. Just my opinion.
Matt Malpass the producer for this album did a really good job at dialing in the atmospheric tones of Will while also getting really clear vocal recordings from Tilian and Jon. It was definitely a bold move to make after the success of DBM2 but these remasters really bring the album back to life. Don't get me wrong I love the originals but the remaster gives it that little bit of punch it needed especially in the bass.
Oh man it gets so much better from here. Don't get me wrong I got hooked on DGD during DBM era but Tilian brings a whole new feel to it and Jon just gets better and better.
Personally I'm not the biggest fan of the Jonny Craig era. I didn't get hooked until the self titled. Don't get me wrong, I love Jonny Craig's voice and I love him in everything else. I just think that his voice doesn't contrast well with harsh vocals. But that's my opinion.
@@herud4737 They kinda sound like he was trying to be like George Pettit on earlier albums (I mean, what post-hardcore vocalist wasn't trying to be Dallas or George for a while?). Later on he found more of his own style, which really benefitted him.
funnily enough kellin actually tried out for DGD at some point- yeah this is the same vocalist as the original AS- the remaster just made it more in line with the other records, the original was muffled for some reason
It wasn't as well produced because they used a different producer on AS from all the other albums. All albums had the same producer Kris except for AS. Kris came back in 2019 and remastered AS the way he would have done it.
Absolutely love your reviews I've watched all of them a few times and this is my favorite album to come back to. Btw I'm sure you know this now but at 16:48 you mentioned the electronic work referencing the lead and actually its Will Swans guitar(some sort of thumping technique he learned from watching Tosin Abasi). There is actually no electronic/midi/keyboard in Dgd as far as I'm aware it's all Will and his million guitar pedals. He's an actual wizard 😂
Fun fact: Every album you’ve heard so far has had a different lineup. The band members from Acceptance Speech to now is the same and has been the most consistent lineup in the DGD timeline.
You've talked about RHCP being your favorite band ever. Curious if you caught the melody that Tilian does in Doom & Gloom that sounds like John's part in Can't Stop. It's the bridge before the end.
been going back and watching your DGD ride through their history. check out tilian's old band: tides of man. they have 2 albums with him and both are incredible for different reasons. he's a beast
This is the best album IMO. It's so special. He sounds like he is still writing for Tides of Man and it ages sooo well with prog DGD. Easily Jon Mess's best album also.
You've experienced "Porcupine Tree" right??? If not, u absolutely need to listen to the album with "anesthetize" on it! - btw the live version from Tilburg is legendary and well mixed.
Death of the robot with human hair is the only track on this album I can’t really get with. To me it throws off the momentum of the album and is kinda corny in a way I don’t understand. But regardless it’s always cool to see others share their first experience with a dgd album 👌
Seeing people hear Mothership for the first time is a genuine experience, I can't wait.
It’s the main reason I suggested dgd to him, exciting times ahead.
Yeah, Mothership is just an all around awesome album. Inspire the Liars will be a treat. Btw he also should check out the singles not on an album like Summertime Gladness (summer feelings pure), Head Hunter, Blood Wolf and so on.
i have a feeling tilian era will be your favorite

@@dominicdunn2579 The original masters were 70% of the way there but that last 30% ELEVATES this album.
Honestly made me sad that Demo Team doesn’t have that many plays 😭
I'm not gonna lie, I don't like this album at all, I think only a few songs are good, but Demo Team is one of my favorites.
Tilian Era is the best for me

"Jon just gets better and better." Is an understatement lol.

Hope I didn't come across as "know better than you" I'm just very passionate about this band since 07 😅
So glad you like Tillan, he’s such an amazing performer too
Dude I'm binge watching your reactions right now, love seeing you discover great music!
If you ever get me in the tsukuyomi please just play these albums on repeat
The Tilian era is amazing, it seems like the band found its sound. Keep enjoying it.
This is my favorite album ever
Man I can't wait until you get to Mothership. Your mind will be blown.
Easily the best album to get hooked to
this album is so great. the last few songs are unskippable
Your ranking is very on point imo
When I first listened to Acceptance Speech, and DTBM2, I was floored. Two of the most insane albums ever
I love your reactions man! Everyone is talking about mothership, but instant gratification is my all time favorite! cant wait for it next.
Hands down my favorite dgd album, it's so raw, most underated dgd album
You need to listen to the 2 albums from A Lot Like Birds that have Kurt on them!!! You won’t be disappointed!!!!!!
Bro we love it they are really amazing one of my best bands cant wait for the rest of albums
Fun fact: Every album you’ve heard so far has had a different lineup. The band members from Acceptance Speech to now is the same and has been the most consistent lineup in the DGD timeline.
just wait till you get to mothership 😈
Can't wait for Mothership
greatest band of all time.
Dude I love your videos. You just let the music play !
Oh gosh this is giving me life !!!!!
I HAD to sub after your first reaction to Jesus H Macy. One of my favorites 😍
You don't have to apologize bro... Just a reaction is the purest reaction 🤘🏿
2:38 I said the same the first time I listened Tilian
My personal favorite is Turn off the lights, such an underrated song.
You've talked about RHCP being your favorite band ever. Curious if you caught the melody that Tilian does in Doom & Gloom that sounds like John's part in Can't Stop. It's the bridge before the end.

You've gotta do Eidola. Degeneraterra or To Speak, to Listen would be riiight up your alley.
the tilian albums get better as you go through btw
hunnit
Same vocalist, recording was just really bad so they remastered it.
Fun fact: Anthony Fantano gave this album or Instant Gratification (cant remember) a 1 out of 10.....
Hearing about this absolutely cemented that Fantano gets none of my time... clearly very little shared music taste.
20:55- No, dude, the lack of talking is a good thing. Lets us know you're digging the music
This is the best album IMO. It's so special. He sounds like he is still writing for Tides of Man and it ages sooo well with prog DGD. Easily Jon Mess's best album also.
I love it when Jon is just full on screaming rather than the sing screaming now.
The jiggler my fav from this album
If you like jon mess's uncleans you should listen to projectile comet- secret band
You've experienced "Porcupine Tree" right???
If not, u absolutely need to listen to the album with "anesthetize" on it! - btw the live version from Tilburg is legendary and well mixed.
im waiting for mothership and afterburner OOOOOU
It’s all uphill from here believe it or not lol
Was just about to comment that. They just kept getting better and better
pog
Im surprised u didnt say anything about the background hums at the end of doom & gloom cuz i swear it reminds me of cant stop by the chili peppers

It's fucking Will. Listen he's a crazy guitarist but that dude FUCKED up that track hardcore lmao. "LEVEL UP HIS BRAIN" ...
Yeah dude you never listened to A skylit drive? And you like guys with high pitched vocals, check em out dude!!!
Exiting the Tilian era.
literally now
I like how you favourite all of the songs haha. I did the same my first time hearing DGD too
Ur gonna shit a brick when you hear Mothership. But this is definitely #2 for me
