Hopefully this vid will stay up🤞and also sorry about the noises in background (that’s my fish tank).
Now THIS is a reaction to Wake ❤
the most impressive thing in this album for me is the CREATIVITY, every riff, solo, drum groove, vocals, the rithym at all, is so geniously made
It’s so cool to see someone listen to the music you love for the first time with no need to be nervous that they’ll think it’s weird lol
No one will match this band. Still can't believe he can play the drums while singing for all of these songs- and sing them well. And no other band I've heard matches the vocals with the drum patterns quite like this. With the shifts and choices in tempo, it hits the ear different than anything else.
Doesn’t he record the vocals and drums separately?
@@AutomaticDuck300 Yes, of course. But there are still plenty of videos with him playing drums and singing at the same time.
False, Try Mars Volta
@@irenetorres1661 doesnt have donovan's voice
How he plays dead messages and ow spliado and sings is just incredible
Their newest album New Age Filth is incredible but every album is good. Gotta love Hail The Sun.
No band has a more consistent discography.
I am actually surprised that POW! Right in the Kisser still holds up so well today (except the mixing, sadly)
@@Harperioni agree . i know a lot of people tend to give that album backlash because of the mixing and production but i feel like it goes with their sound and on top of that it adds a bit of nostalgia. when i first got into hail the sun i thought it was their weakest album but the more i’ve listened to it the more i’ve grown to love it
Remember Donovan does both the vocals and drumwork!!!
After Elephantitis, this album was a definite highlight for the band. Showing the great lengths of expressions. Using different influence and story telling. With power and gravy. Such a delicious album.
Hanging Revelation is a prime example of how good they are at writing melodies and rhythms that are both unsettling and beautiful. The atmosphere of the song is constantly shifting between hopeful and despairing as the scale balancing good and evil tips back and forth. The staple start-stop blast beats Donovan employs throughout their discography are used here to kick your adrenaline into overdrive, but never long enough to get comfortable with the energy; especially so in this song, where the disparity between calm and chaotic is so intense.
And then the climactic sequence starting at 44:29 hits with those chords so discordant and yet... ecstatic. It gives me the same feeling as a church organ, which I feel is an intentional allusion given the theme of the song and several others from the album. And despite being the most emotionally charged part of the song, it's also the most calm, as if in surrender. This all beautifully drives home the feeling of betrayal - like a martyr left to fall, ironically, at the hands of the church, or whatever institution it represents at a given time. And then the last two chords leave you with unresolved tension because in the end, the scale is left unbalanced in favor of evil.
Man, I really wish there were more technical analyses of Hail the Sun's music. Their writing brilliantly conveys very complex and existential themes.
saaaame, their writing is masterful and perfectly done
They take you for a ride with each of their songs, it's like you get 5 songs in one. They're freaking amazing!
Dude you gotta check out Sianvar! It’s a swan core super group, has hail the suns singer for vocals, and then has Will Swan (Dance gavin dance) and Sergio Medina (Eidola) on guitars. Their LP stay lost is an absolute masterpiece!
dont forget Joseph Arrington's amazing drumming from A Lot Like Birds
ALSO!!! in reference to your comments around 56:00 about the ever changing drum rhythms and patterns, that is definitely happening to help him sing the songs or even play the drums along to the vocal cadences. I think even on a bad night for Donovan, he still is laying bricks and swooning chicks with his drumming and vocals haha! sorry had to add this in there
Hanging revelations is a complete masterpiece PERIOD! IMHO best track on the album! One of my favorite songs in this genre for sure. 43:40 is my favorite part of the whole album
I fucking love this band. I first got into rolling out the red carpet and tried to get into the rest of the album but it was just such an overload for me that I wasn’t ready😭. Once my music taste expanded a little more i got into divine inner tensions and saw them live and fell in love. Now I adore wake and am gonna see them this September for their ten year anniversary of wake. 💟
this album is a masterpiece
It’s hard for me to get fully into this. I’m not sure why.
@@AutomaticDuck300lack of continuity, sometimes hard to follow
@@stoned_ not very hard to follow after a few listens, flows nicely
@@AutomaticDuck300 We're so used to songs that have one tempo and one key the whole song, it's weird when something breaks that pattern. But eventually you get used to it
In my opinion, this album, No Place by A Lot Like Birds, and Allomaternal by Stolas are the best swancore albums. Check the other two out if you haven't had the chance yet. Also, don't skip over Hail the Sun's Elephantisis EP, it's an essential part of their discography and I personally like it a lot more than their first album. Enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing!
You have amazing taste! Eidola has been fucking killing it in the swancore scene too!
This is their best album hands down.
Such a banger of an album. This was my practice album for a while and their guitar lines are so underrated
love this band and all their albums and eps! super insightful commentary btw!
I know you've listened to Eidola's most recent album, The Architect, but you should definitely check out their album Degeneraterra. In my opinion, it takes all the best proggy parts from Hail the Sun's Wake and meshes them with the finesse of Dance Gavin Dance. Andrew Wells, the lead singer of Eidola, has been featured in a few DGD songs and is now a permanent member of the band. I
Disappearing Syndrome, Hanging Revelation, and Anti-Euology three of the all-time greatest swancore songs! I love this band and everything they've done since, but don't think anything will quite match up to "Wake," one of the most unique masterpieces this genre will ever see
You HAVE to check out "I met a yeti" if you haven't already! Short album that is pretty much flawless I guarantee you'll love it. "Cherry blossom" is probably my favorite off their album camp yeti
Dude, they’re so good and noes talked about them
@@icydragon308 it's almost criminal lol
Saw them live a few years ago in the smallest venu I've ever been to in Dallas, and they were amazing. They had their touring drummer at that time, but Donavan (lead singer) still did a few songs on the drums and sang at the same time, and it was incredible.
They're getting more and more comfortable letting their touring drummer take most of the load off of Donovan.
You gotta do New Age Filth soon. One of the all time great posthardcore albums already.
:) ua-cam.com/video/413rcB9F63o/v-deo.html
The instrumental they used in the song at the beginning of rolling out the red carpet, reminds me of the creepypasta music in the story of laughing jack somewhat anf that sir is why i like this song 😂
When it’s all said & done, Disappearing Syndrome & Black Serotonin need to be in the top 10 in their final list
100% agree, although I would also debate for Rolling out the red carpet/Human target practice
I have to ask - when you filmed this video, did you NOT know that Donovan played drums + sang? (maybe not at the same time on the recording, but LIVE)??
no shame if you didn't brother.. I remember when I first heard them, I thought it was like DGD with Circa Survive vocals on it. then when I saw a couple live videos and got more familiar with the album, I realized they were so much more than that comparison. either way, take care bro! look forward to more videos sir!
\
I figured out that Donovan played drums live about a couple weeks after I upload this video.
so excited to watch this
Awesome! please do Secret Wars (EP)- Hail The Sun
@Josiah Stewart / @op God damn! You should definitely revamp / relisten to Mental Life: Album Again, if that was your introduction. At least for the stream. Like revamping records with your songs would be awesome.
I have no idea why this video is popping up or who you are but this album is one of the top 3 albums ever made. Although Elephantitis might be equally as good.
Maybe its cuz I havent listened to enough Swancore lately.
Their EP called "Elephantitis" only has like 5 songs but they're all fuckin bangers. Check it out please
Please please react to Turnstile - GLOW ON, its album of the yeag easily, so fresh and innovative, i know for a fact you will enjoy it!!!
love short songs so Rolling out the red carpet is my fave. if anyone wants a similar song rec i would say ‘The End by Nodes of Ranvier!’
Dont know of you know Doppelganger by Fall of Troy. But you gotta give it a listenc
They are DEFINITELY inspired by Mars Volta
Bro, not even the lead singer likes the first album. As far as I know he doesn't perform those songs ever.
Hope you know that the lead singer is also the drummer
I figure that out at the beginning of this year. That guy is so talented.
This album is essentially a DGD band that decided to choose random Circa Survive songs of their discography & cover them..
How in the actual hell did this kid NOT hear Anthony "the siren" Green influence in the vocal melodies & even lyric structure? MOST of these "covered" songs are off CS's 2nd album On Letting Go..
its absolute ✨BONKERS✨ hearing what wouldve been if Anthony Green stayed in Soasin but then simultaneously was in Circa Survive & BOTH bands decided to make an album together (adding splashes here and there of DGD quirk)
I would have to completely disagree, as someone who is a fan of dgd, circa survive and Hail the sun, they all 3 have very distinct sounds, although their voices might sound similar they are used in completely different ways. you are just wrong
also there is much much more inspiration from the mars volta and at the drive in, which is what the main singer has stated growing up on those bands sooo
One of the best albums ever
I’m 40, grew up on skate punk and recently discovered hail the sun. That’s led me down a rabbit hole to Sianvar, dance Gavin dance, eidola and even instrumental stuff like strawberry girls. Did not know what I was missing!
You've got to check their EP elephantitis which comes between the two albums you have listened to. It's five songs and they are all incredible!
A PERFECT ALBUM!
oh yeah the vocalist is the drummer, hail the sun is very unique
I don't think this album is their "BEST" but it's a cult classic for sure. Miss injections and Black Serotonin are two of the best swan core songs ever made.
They have better songs for sure but for me this has to be the best album as a whole.
whats their best in your opinion?
Kick someone enough and they will not get up 🗣️🔥🔥🔥
23:19 - yyyep. Mine as well lol I was watching just waiting for you to get to that song. I love this album
Deaf Ears is still their best song.
Yoo dude you gotta check out a band called Oragnes. They're super unknown and only have one album but it's called taxonomy
