    Gotta say. That shift at 0:08 was perfect haha, things like that are what the 86 is about. Carrying speed, cornering like a demon and enjoying pure driving pleasure. It’s a car that response well to skill, not a trigger happy right foot, or clout chasing.

      lol thanks- i try my best to stay focused on getting the shifter into the right slot neatly- if i focus too much on how “quickly” i can do it i’ll misshift half the time. this car is about learning car control, and most importantly how to control your car after it’s lost control. this is why at almost every car meet some bozo in a mustang gt will try to spin the rears and then end up fishing into the median

    The 86 Is slow as fuck for the money you pay. You could just get a WRX for that money. Toyota dropped the ball on this car. It's perfect in every shape, other than the fact it's a slouch.

    Having a brz has been the most confusing time of my life car wise. Don’t get me wrong, I love the car and I’m sure I’ll talk about how amazing it was once I get old. I’ve autocrossed is a lot, played around on backroads etc and even drive like a total hooligan sometimes. I think it’s an absolute treasure that needs to be appreciated more or maybe understood better by the masses. Yet because of the internet bitching about the power of this car to no end, i won’t lie it has placed doubt in my mind that I chose the right car for me at times. Mostly when I’m not currently in the car driving it in a spirited manner. While driving it especially in turns I’m like “nope this is adequate idk why people bitch so much.” Then when it has been parked those pesky thoughts start creeping in….”but is it really enough? Am i missing out on something? Would I enjoy a more powerful car although it wouldn’t handle or be as tactile as this one? Shit! Idk.” I also don’t get to drive very many sports cars anymore so this intensifies that feeling. My dad had an 06 gto that we autocrossed over and over and over again and that thing was a fast but numb pig when compared to this chassis. Nothing feels as razor sharp as my brz and I would hate to get rid of this car and regret it just to get something that has a little more horsepower or street cred. Anyone else go through this at times?

      i understand how you feel- not gonna lie, i think about adding a turbo or supercharger from time to time, i think all of us 86 owners have. but just to give you some perspective, the 86 is the 10th car i've owned and i've driven 20+ sports cars besides. the 86 is hands down my favorite car, yet. it's not the fastest, not the sharpest, its not even the best drifting car if you can believe it. but it's not just any one thing, it's all of the qualities together balanced, that makes the 86 such a unique enjoyable experience. i've driven a handful of supercars that don't feel as special- the nissan GTR for example. its insanely fast and turns on a dime- but its heavy. it wears tires and brakes like butter. worst of all, it feels like a family car that they made fast. if you're shelling out $100k for a sports car, the last thing you want is a family car they upgraded. i prefer purpose-built, cars designed for sport first and then everything else is an added bonus. and in this category, theres only a few i would put on the same list as the 86, for that unique very special kind of experience. mr2 mark1 aw11, old school nsx, rx7 fd3s, porsche 911 GT3 RS, ferrari 458 italia. these cars have similar unique experience where it doesn't feel like any other car you've ever driven, and they're capable, and extremely enjoyable. like it's pure joy to drive them. the reason 86 is at the top of my list is cuz all the other cars on that list have issues that bring it down a notch. like lack of utility, lack of reliability, or it's too expensive to fix. honestly, there are some cars that you would love to drive, hate to live with. but the 86 balances all of the above so well, and still manages to deliver that experience. like right now, if you got some money together, sold the 86, what car would you get? chances are, i've owned or driven it already and maybe i can help ease your mind about just how special the 86 is. you should also check out my other video "why the 86 is slow" if you haven't already, i explain some key points on the psychology behind why people come to that conclusion.

      @@gt86er14 valid points man as I also don’t favor heavy cars. I remember the first time i experienced a light well balanced car. I was doing a ride a long in a stock powered S2000 with only 200TW tires on for Autocross. It totally blew my mind how hard it would corner and how nimble it felt even from the passenger seat. From there on I knew light weight RWD cars were the tits and had a new understanding for what made a car fun and satisfying. This was also at the time my dad and I were autocrossing our GTO. It had nearly double the power (and a lot more weight) and felt like a turd honestly compared to that S2000. As far as what would I get instead if I sold the car? Man….idk that’s where I get tripped up and start to come back around to my BRZ lol. Maybe Fiesta st/Veloster N but those are fwd so I know I’ll get fed up with that eventually, Nd2 Miata if I had another daily, S2000 if I could find one that wasn’t through the roof overpriced but those aren’t that much faster than our cars as it is, 16 camaro ss 1le would be an option because apparently they are well balanced even though they are heavy as hell but carry it well. Consumables though on that car would be atrocious. If money was no object I’d get the 911 GT3 RS hands down. You’re totally right though. After everything balances out, real world cost and usability, and driving satisfaction, this car is sooo hard to beat.

    The 86 is meant for the back roads. It will smoke a V8 mustang (older mustang) in those conditions but my 20 year old V6 Pontiac will destroy it on the highway.

    Yeah… all of those examples are “slow”. They’re also way older.
    Highway speeds are why people care about speed and power. There’s nothing wrong with the 86 and company, their just paying it out for looking like a super car but being a normal every day traffic car inside, Which was the design spec…

      those are excellent cars, but completely different platform and class both being fwd and way heavier (the weight of an e90). i’ve owned 10 cars, and only 1 was a fwd- i’m not as fond of exiting corners with fwd and i’m not as fond of heavier cars. they’re great car choices though if you don’t have a particular preference- but for me considering weight, class, drivetrain, form, price- it’s either this or the miata (and i came from a miata so you know which one i eventually chose :)

    This car is so slow, I end up driving in the higher RPM's and avoiding 3k-4k, but then my engine oil gets around 240F-250F. This car should have come with an oil cooler.

    • @MakePictures
      @MakePictures 2 місяці тому +1

      this car has a torque dip- a slow car is when you punch it and nothing happens indefinitely. i'm surprised nobody ever complained about this with the s2000. anyways this thing was designed to be driven at higher rpm's, it's why it needs full synthetic which won't start to break down until you go past 300F. 240-250 is nothing, your oil is properly warm at 200. that said, you can install an oil cooler like i did- but you have to sit there and wait a bit longer for the oil to warm up before you drive off. this is if you track the car, do you track it? if you're just driving street, you don't need an oil cooler

    • @Fhesseti
      @Fhesseti Рік тому +2

      @@brzo. Unless you need the 2 rear seats, which are pretty useless anyways I'd get the 370z. A lot more power. The 86 is thirsty for fuel and lacks the power to make up for it's poor fuel economy. If you are willing to set some money aside or wait until you're in a better position, the Porsche Cayman is so worth it.

    • @Fhesseti
      @Fhesseti Рік тому +2

      @@brzo. Driven both, drifting the 86 is better but in straights it isn't even close. 370z can leave many cars at the lights if that's your sort of thing. Both handle very well, 370z has a low center of gravity so it's all good from my experience. But there's times you just want to rip it down a nice straight and the 370z can do it pretty well. Neither car is comfortable and you can feel every bump in the road, but that's to be expected in a sports car. They also have very little tech, which for some is a good thing but again if you want some convenience it's lacking compared to a grand tourer. The 370z costs more but if it's within your budget I say get it, overall imo it's the better car, unless you're crazy about drifting.

    • @gt86er14
      @gt86er14  4 роки тому +6

      again, all you're talking about is pushing a pedal down. watch the whole vid- none of my points are wrong. i assume you like corvettes- a vette is a sports car right? a boxster's engine output is way less than a vette. so is a boxster not a sports car? a sports car is a car that was designed from the ground up to go around a track competently- it was designed for sport first, so it sacrifices shit like trunk space, cabin space, comfort, convenience. it wasn't designed for utility, its designed to be quick. when a sports car is more affordable, it either has a beefy engine or it's lightweight but it can't be both cuz of budget. the more money you pay for a sports car the more car you get, that's a given. so have fun at the track with your vette, don't waste it doing drag races- it can do way more than that
