As a trombone player for 45 years(none of them professional) I know enough about the instrument to say this young man has accomplished a mountain of mastery of the instrument. It must be humbling to play for such a musically sophisticated audience and get such a resounding appause.
@@TheSproutarian idk about all of that... his sound isnt quite as pristine as Martins but from a technical standpoint lionel is indeed a freak of nature. However that's just my perspective
Apart from a prodigious technique, Mr Wilson could have become a great commercial trombonist. What a beautiful sound. The Ulster Orchestra must be very happy to have him.
This is incredible! I did not think this piece was possible on trombone! I heard it done beautifully on trumpet and thought "no way a trombone could do that!" And now I'm puking rainbows a d kittens from this amazingness.
best trombone I have ever heard, I had the priviledge of having heard him at rehearsals (my dad played in the band) he was simply breathtaking, anyone disliking it is doing it out of jealousy or plays for a rival band
This guy makes it looks sooooooo easy...his speed and endurance on his horn are one of the best I've ever seen in my entire life....and yes, I am now going to go get my trombone and cry in a corner
every so dften there is a player thats cmes along makes you stop and listen and make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end Well you are certainly one of those players ,once again another outstanding solo . after listening to this there most be a few back gardens with trombones buried in them ,and if not why not ?
Whilst I have tried and failed to play this piece any better, I feel a little disappointed that the arranger transposed this piece up a perfect 4th so as to make the soloist part substantially easier - higher range = closer positions & more alternate positions available, there's also a lot of fudging of notes & positions. Please remember that when comparing it to other performances.
Your always trying to make yourself appear better than others. You need to learn people may be better or worse than you, but that is okay. Stop bringing others down like this, and just enjoy the performance for what it is. Also side note, your videos are annoyingly long - stop pushing them to 10 minutes just to fill up ad space. Just play the god damn instrument.
ang galing mo naman parang balewala lang yung presure mahirap bumirit parang mawawalan ka ng hininga... The trip from nothing just like the presure difficult to show a high note as you lose breath ... wonderful wonderful
@DAYL069 This might be Jaroslav Cimera's version transcribed by Josef Koestner. Cimera was my father's teacher here in the Chicago area during the 1930's and 1940's. :-)
@jonathanthursty Actually, probably just double. You general triple tongue for fast triplets, using it on even runs (16ths or 32nds) tends to make your sound uneven. But regardless of the direction he's moving his tongue...It's fucking fast, eh? :P
I'm auditioning for colleges next week, I've been playing for 7 months in my schools High step Marching and Concert band. I thought I'd see how it'd sound. I doubt I'll get it by then but I still want to practice it.
Not me! This is indeed a "gifted" young man with incredible natural talent. It INSPIRES me that someone this young can all but master the instrument at such a young age and that trombone playing will be around indefinitely. He needs to be in music education(if he isn't already!) and pass his knowledge and skills on to future trombonists. I'm sure he will be welcomed in the music department of any school wherever he wishes to teach.
@@daleandrews9356 Im not sure if that "gifted" is a complinent or an insult cause im pretty sure he spent a lot of time practicing to make it look that flawless
Beautiful!!! May I ask how someone can adjust to double tonguing if they have a stammering problem cuz its been killing me since I was a little kid and this is my eighth year playing. Still can't do it............ yet!!!
@goldenrocks11 Are you kidding? Why does it matter if he makes one tiny insignificant fumble, are you completely disregarding everything else he pulled off. This guy must have practiced his but off, and with you having no videos demonstrating musical expertise, I consider your comment extremely disrespectful.
@exclamaforte check out the Bob Mcchesney version of this solo in the Original key,(which is even harder) and THEN tell us about the so called "limitations" of the trombone!!
@Governm3nt Well, they do put spaces after commas, but there are several flaws in your reasoning. First of all, just because the video has a British voice-over does not mean that the poster of this video is British.Furthermore, even if the poster of the video was British, his/her actions regarding commas cannot be assumed to be an exact representation of the actions of all British people on this matter.
It sounds like a french horn or an euphonium. It does not sound like a slide trombone. Most of the slide trombonist that I listen to, have a rough sound. Good sliding and good intonation is the most important thing as far as the slide trombone is concern. This guy have the idea. I like him very much. I would aspire to something like him.
wow, yo creí que nunca ningún trombonista había tocado el carnaval con trombón, ya que lindberg no lo había hecho creí que era imposible, impresionante!!!!!!!!!!!
I think thats triple tounging but if im wrong forgive me. I tried airing the piece and triple tounging didn't work at the fast parts. But good playing.
This guy is a beast, I wonder how fast he can spit watermelon seeds. I'm still a beginner trombonist, my goal before even thinking about quitting is being able to play this, like this. O_o

What absolutely boggles my mind is how effortlessly he makes this sound and look. It's like he can do this in his sleep.
A Skilled Trombonist once told me "the best way to play your best is relaxed"
I'm not quite sure that some of you understand just how difficult this is.
Indeed
Martin Wilson is indeed a Trombone prodigy, period.
Best one I've heard. The tonguing and articulation is flawless. This is called a great musician.
Hard to believe he was 21 at this performance.....
Have you heard 'Fly or Die' by Lionel Fumeaux ?????? He's insane
One of the greatest talents ever and better than Martin by miles imo. A true freak.
He definitely HAS a future!
@@TheSproutarian idk about all of that... his sound isnt quite as pristine as Martins but from a technical standpoint lionel is indeed a freak of nature. However that's just my perspective
He has a mini trombone when he was a fetus
when you want to cry because you have seen the music sheet and you feel like a spec of dust compared to this godly trombone player
Clutch Nation exercise and exercise and you can play it then.
need to play IT today after 3 months exercise
+motoloverx15 l exercise for a year and i cant play anything, you mean practice?

I can listen from 0:09 to 0:34 on repeat forever...truly the slur master. A very awesome performance overall!
Just brilliant, enjoyed his playing immensely.
This is amazing, from memory, he performing the most difficult pieces for trombone and knocking it out of the park!

No está en Eb como la versión original del arban sino el Ab, así queda más fácil de posiciones
This is amazing. Why would you dislike this?! If I even attempted this I would probably just die right then.

Difficult is an understatement...there are/were only a handful of Trombone Players ever thst could triple tongue like this...
And I thought I was good for being first chair at my school.
+helenronghan82 IKR LOL
helenronghan82, maybe you are good. Just not at his level.
Hahahhahahahha ur comment is just so hilarious but TRUE!
Jyst goes to show there's always a higher level to aim for. As long as you enjoy playing at whatever level you're at, you're still winning.
As an older trombone player, I'm really digging the slide vibrato
This guy makes it looks sooooooo easy...his speed and endurance on his horn are one of the best I've ever seen in my entire life....and yes, I am now going to go get my trombone and cry in a corner
A great trombonist. Marvellous tone, tecnique and intonation.
