      Go Army!
I got the chance to sit down and play with these guys when I was in High School. Awesome people. What blew me away was the fact that none of them had any music on their stands. They just had ... stuff on there. Like random bits of music they pretended to look at. It was all in their heads. The bass trombone player calmly noticed that I didn't have any idea what the music was, and produced a part for me from his bag. No judgement, subtle hints. Section leader asked for my pencil and marked a few dymanics, and some notes on it. Played the phrases that way ever since. Blew my mind to sit in with them at that age.
And ya. That wasn't a cheap tuba either! Send it! Shot Out!

As a trombonist, it ain’t that hard once you already got it on tenor trombone. Sop. Trombone is just played like tenor but an octave higher and you might need a little practice with alto trombone, but yea it ain’t that hard. I’m not saying that FOTB isn’t hard because it definitely is, just saying that it’s not hard to do it on the other two if you already have it on one of them.

Being a Junior in Marching Band, I can re assure everyone watching this that just learning 10 songs in a month, as hard as it seems, will/is a lot easier than trying to play Flight of the Bumblebee on the trombone. We get hyped just by playing Seven nation army at football games, let alone if someone would ever learn this. Great job to that Trombonist, and everyone in the band, on behalf of the Logan Marching Chieftains.

Actually you can practice too much on brass instruments. You'll get an "embouchure breakdown" past, say, 4 hours per day, at least in my case. It happened to Miles Davis too. Symptoms are when it takes you longer and longer to warm up. They also say too many lip slurs can lead to this condition. In my case it was taking me about 1 hour just to warm up and break down my lips to where I could play. My teacher was clueless as to why I was getting worse and worse. My lips had as much buzz as a stiff baseball mitt.

When I was a lad, we had two star trumpet players at our high school. The first chair was an economy size gentleman; he could play the solo from Sleigh Ride like Mr. Anderson intended it. Second chair was this wee slip of a girl, maybe 5'1", and she could keep up with first chair. I'm like, "How DO you do that?!" "Practice."
Turns out most people use about half their lung capacity. Brass and wind players? Up to 80%. And they sometimes breathe back in through their instruments to avoid overoxygenation, which is almost as bad for you as too much CO2.
It's only looney toons in the manner of Yakko and the Brain: it's SCIENCE!

This is also played quite well on the tuba by Chuck Daellenbach of the Canadian Brass. I talked to him one evening after a performance and asked how he could defy physics so easily. He said, "it's a trick".

I studied music for thirty years (it was my college major) before putting everything on hold to become a writer a few years ago. Started my musical travels at age ten on slide trombone, and over the years, gained basic competence on low and high brass and the saxophone family...too much of a drifter to ever become a virtuoso like Staff Sergeant Carmen Russo, my new musical hero. Bravo, sir...BRAVO!!! To attain this level of mastery over various sized brass instruments is a major achievement that requires discipline, hard work, intense focus, and LOTS of practice. I humbly tip my hat to your excellence. Thank you for this masterful...and quite humorous...performance! :-)

I had the pleasure to see you guys in Panama City beach just a month or so ago, was such an experience, especially when the duet with the trumpet and euphonium was played.

That's great! When was that performance? It sounds like you saw one of our sister organizations down in Florida and that's awesome!
