The "that lot" that Henry refers to at 0:16 is us! We were riding a Seven Seater Circular Conference Bike (CoBi for short) from John O'Groats to Lands End for Cyclists Fighting Cancer and to break a Guinness World Record.
Like the Morgan, the Conference Bike is another awesome machine with a reverse trike formation. Not a rational way to get from one end of the country to the other, but it is a fun one.
The four wheels (Two together at the back) are basically space savers, the front brakes are from a VW Polo, the back brakes are motorcycle discs. The secret sauce is universal joints that run round the bottom of the frame and transmit the pedalling to the main drive train at the back. The person at the back steers, everyone else just holds on and pedals.
The top speed is sliiiiightly slower than the Morgan, about 7mph on the flat though it can get up around 40mph on downhills. Our next plan for it is to try and set a speed record!
The thought of getting up near 40 mph downhill while seated on that thing, oblique to the direction of travel, is a bit worrisome 😅
@@jsquared1013 It's pretty nerve wracking, you definitely need to trust your driver!
Henry is such an engaging writer. That’s where the value of these videos is, mostly, for me.
I love it. In a world where fun seems to be increasingly harder to find this little Morgan must surely deliver a lot of that if you were to find yourself behind the wheel of one. Useable power, questionable chassis dynamics and bomber style looks, imagine this on a good mountain pass, you'd have the time of your life.
Its great to see a car release where the car isnt the same old "hey, a new superfast overpowered overpriced super-whatever". and its a car based on an old and loved platform/design, and they didnt fall too far away from the old essence. the V twin is gone but hey... this car will still give you all the thrills you expect from a three wheeler.
Great review really impressed by the audio.
Hats off to the tech who achieved this.
A lesson for others who would have blown it out by the wind.
I get good results with an external small lavallier mic connected to my android phone running free audio app, wrapped in a sock, gaffer taped close to the exhaust.. obvs some experimentation to locate the optimal place.
Morgan's designers did a great job of dragging their 3-wheeler into the 21st century, whilst retaining at least a fair chunk of retro aesthetic.
Their choice of colours and luggage set-up for the promo-vehicles were inspired too. Especially the salmon pink one!.
Totally agree, They are amazing people at Morgan Motors.
But people liked them largely for the ridiculous V twin engine, which gave it an aircraft like characteristic. It was never meant to be a serious car. Why but this over a Caterham now.
@@BlatentlyFakeName Seems like the practical benefits over the V-Twin up front are universal.
And personally, think I prefer this 30s Grand Prix style front anyway. At least it's pretending to be a car and not a biplane😉
As for 'Why but this over a Caterham now': Why not?
Those "show cars" that display all the options and customizability are insane. this car is so cool.
@@lefroy1 I am at the age now were I have some spare money to buy something to enjoy and to be honest after losing that twin V twin the Morgan has lost what it was..
I will be looking for 7 instead
Anyone else wish this one was longer? Great video and so happy Henry was the first person I’ve seen do a proper in-car driving review on the Super3
I think I prefer the look of the old one with the engine outside the car. It made a quirky car even quirkier.
Agree 👍
I like them both since they each have their own character
I beg you if you can,go to the factory and see it and sit in it, it will blow you away, videos and pictures does not come close.
The V-twin had lots of low-revs torque (I spun the back wheel changing up into 4th when I tried one out), whereas this sounds as though it's screaming. To my mind the front of the Super 3 looks messy, and I really don't care for all those mounting points all over it.
@@philipwatson2407 you don’t have to have all of the mounting points, they’re optional
Great that Morgan still comes up with these projects, and comforting to know that they're already planning an electric version. It hopefully points to a bright future for both Morgan and the prospect of a characterful enthusiast electric car market.
Absolutely love this modern steampunk aesthetic, great sound too. So happy this exists
Filmed just down the road from where I live. So weird seeing my back roads on here
Not a commuter, clearly - but for cobweb blowing of a weekend? Gloriously ridiculous fun. I get the feeling that from the designers putting pen to paper, to the engineers and technicians at the factory putting them together on to the lucky custoners: everyone's got a smile on their face.
Loved the torque counter. It's that sort of thing that really sets the channel apart and shows you guys don't take yourselves too seriously. I LOVE the car too - i'd have one in a heartbeat.
Henry does a better show - while expertly driving the Super Three - than most people do from a chair in the studio.
Judging by the amount of smile, that was a resounding success!
Thank you for this. I both love and hate these things, with equal enthusiasm!
Henry is the king of alliterations :)
What a little gem of an interview. Every aspect of it is perfectly creative and perfectly executed. Fantastic job once again, Carfection.
Such a brilliant brilliant car.
And Harry is unquestionably one of the best, more entertaining, truly passionate and nice motoring journalist out there, he gives you the feeling to be there, sitting beside him, hats off.
I honestly thought it was a huge mistake losing the old 2 cylinder but man this cars now perfect for a 2 car garage. This and an rs6 yes please
Saw and had a good look at one of thes three prototypes built at the Sir Jackie Stewart Classic last weekend in the Borders.. absolutely beautiful and the star of the show for my father and I.
Carfection is simply the best.
Thanks Henry, that brought back memories of your year running a Caterham Seven as your daily driver. Time to crack out the sailing jacket!
I could own it for those front wheels. Gorgeous design.
Love it thank you Mr Catchpole. I have been waiting for a first drive video on this.
Brilliant writing and commentary Henry!
This man is elegance and roughness if they had a child👌
Such a unique looking car, every time I see the older model I chuckle a little.
I miht be weird, but this excites me more than new McLarens, Bugattis, Ferraris or most other overly engineered cars. Don't get me wrong, I love those other ones. This thought, is a peice of pure motoring perfection.
I fully agree with you !!
I own a V TWIN equipped 3W... And definitely LOVE IT !
Watched Henry review a McLaren Artura last night. Tonight the Morgan Super 3. I counted his smiles by mile and the Morgan won!!
How can you not love this?
Great stuff Henry, the car looks outstanding. Many thanks.
Great video as always, Carfection, and congratulations on the 1M subs!
I first saw the modern iteration of the Morgan 3-Wheeler at Goodwood FOS in 2011 and quite honestly it was the best looking and sounding car at the show for me.
I’m not feeling quite the same way about this version, however, I will reserve judgment until I see and hear one in the flesh. Can’t wait!
Utterly superb. I cannot express how much I enjoy this channel... :o)
Love it. Great review Henry!
Unfortunately we really don't see that many Morgan's in the US. Your much more likely to see a Ferrari or Lamborghini. As far as I know, there is only One Morgan dealer in all of the US. I hope to just get the chance to see one of these some day. I'm so glad that Morgan decided to continue production instead of killing it off. This looked like so much fun. Thank you.
We have a large dealer network in the US and early next year you will have the Plus Four available there along with this Super 3
Be there driven that. And loved every moment as did everyone who saw and giggled and laughter and smiled. Brakes could be a whole lot better but I managed to return it to Morgan Kent without a scratch. It sounds a whole lot better with the sports exhaust, engine sound being the only other area to work up. Loved it and loved getting back into my Exige after..yes ..would be great to own both.
Hello,
It is a beautiful ride.
I wish to see the majority of people riding Morgan 3 Wheeler on the roads.
Nice sound what a surprise!!
Brilliant video love the pot plant who needs a fast car to have fun
Oh man I loved that Aero 8... Just a special car for the sake of being a special car. A wonderful way to spend the money if you have it.
I want one so much 😭😫got to see a few of them on display on a trip at düsseldorf classic remise in Germany and was blown away by them. Previously i wanted a can am ryker or polaris Slingshot but too many people have them , this is more special. Great video 📹👍😊
This is UTTER lunacy and i absolutely love it. Great review. Will Alex Goy be getting one 👀👀
I think a pot plant is a perfect accessory. Well done, Henry, great review. Thanks.
Brilliant video !!!
I love the Morgan Super 3 design and luggage options 😍😎😎
Thanks Henry, it looks like a lot of fun!
3 cylinder engines sounds soooo good.
Long live the Great Morgan
This is the antithesis of everything super high performance cars get wrong
Great video 👏👏👏
Brilliant video, thanks greatly. Good old Morgan cars, coming up with this improvement on the three wheeler. Peace be unto you.
Wasn’t sure about the looks without the engine out front, but on the road it looks great.
Is it torquey?
A MX-5 gearbox, that should be good, I really like my '16 Miata, very nice gearbox. I'd give serious attention to a Caterham in addition to this though. Either would be fun here on hilly and curvy New Hampshire roads, roads that are tighter than what I see in the video. I drive on a lot of dirt roads here, that single rear wheel should be lots of fun on those, every little bend should produce oversteer.
I would like to have one of those IF it had a flat six engine transplanted from Honda Gold Wing.
Just watched this and Nomad R and I want both for some reason! just need a sensible one for the big shopping!
A 3 wheeler is not my cup of tea, however Henrys passionate review combined with his professionalism means all his reviews including this one are a joy to watch.
Such a gorgeous car.
Tim loved it and he ordered one before driving it the other day.
I'd totally drive one of those!
Very cool
Do you like the look of the new Super 3, or did you prefer the old Morgan 3-Wheeler?
I feel that any vehicle where the engine arrives at the pedestrian before the rest of the car is to be commended. This latest incarnation just looks like it would swallow small children whole.
I do love the new one. It's a great combination of an old concept with modern design.
I would love to own one!
I love the old one with the engine-out and slightly lower slung sides.
Having said that the sheer amount of options on this one will probably lead to some very cool specs. I've been playing with the configurator for far too long now
To be honest, I like both versions. They look equally mad 😃👌
It looks fabulous.
They've managed to maintain the old feeling, but whit a modern and more hi-tech touch, great job Morgan.
Sounds fabulous
I LOVE THIS THING!
The lack of sliding with the three wheel, left me feeling empty. Catchpole is great and I know he can push it!
Great video Henry, doesn't sound a patch on the old v twin though
Spoke too you and seen the Morgan in real life up the Bealach na Ba you were no 1 in the rally . A was the guy taken picture near the top.Found you on UA-cam. The interweb is marvellous. Great video and very informative thanks
I think if I already had a previous 3-Wheeler then I'd buy this as an addition, not a replacement. The internal 3cyl engine and slightly more retro-future design gives it quite a different character just as an object in general (I say having not driven either to check that side of things).
Spotted you stuck in the Malvern traffic Henry! Wondering when the review was coming.
It's great to see a old school properly mad sports car that again you don't need 600 or more horsepower to have a great time :)
But 99% of the piloting of such a beast is spent respecting and being resplendent in what is under your right foot, which is also a great deal of the fun of ownership. (The 1% isn't bad, either! 😉)
V twin sounds and feels and even looks better
What good are the roll bars if they don’t stick up higher than your head?
Great review, love the enthusiasm, charming... Hey Morgan, how hard would it be to keep the front end unchanged but make it a 4 wheeler with similar narrow tyres & cycle wingss at the rear? That would be fun & open up a whole new market like those would just not buy a 3 wheeler for fear of rolling it.
It would be really hard to roll the Morgan without being in a serious accident. The car is very low and wide (at the front) so the center of gravity is pretty low, the tires would lose grip before you reached a point where it would roll.
Sounds nice with the 3 pot 👌🏻😎
Love it! I want one.
It's a short life...do it!
Plenty of room for a new paintbrush!😂 I cracked up.
Funny enjoyed this way more than the McLaren video - you captured the spirit of the Morgan! So enjoyable
I don't really think it's as good looking as the old one with the exposed engine. I think it's the one I'll get some day.
I think this is missed opportunity to do more engine sourcing from BMW. I mean the BMW R18 is prettiest mc engine ever done looking for an good application. and I think this would have been suitable chassis. I mean it's heavy and most likely made it handle worse, however I don't think anyone cares as long as it looks and sounds good.
I will be always attached to old Morgan specially 2013-2014 models, actually saving for a used one here in the US. This design of this is beautiful though.
Feel like the smaller steering wheel would make it seem a bit twitcher anyway, the big wheel definitely works
I love it!
Could use the back wheels though 😉
Amazing
Superbe video !
stupenda, I adore this life style on drivin
great fun
IMO 42 is cheap for a hand built low volume car of any size.
Great stuff, Morgan 👍, a logical addition to a motorcycle garage with a Honda Gold Wing or a BMW GS......or even a Harley Davidson......
There's something about the front end of this that just seems a little unfinished - almost like part of its 'face' is missing. But hey, although I miss the view of the V Twin, I'm still glad that Morgan are producing these quirky little cars in a marketplace that's becoming increasingly generic and derivative.
If you play around with the configurator on their web site, you can pick a different colour for the front end metal castings, the front cowl, as well as add some road lights (I particularly like these). Depending on the colour scheme this goes a long way, I think.
I reckon the front will be given a classic, curved bar Morgan grille face. Freeze the vid' at 8:23 to see what they most certainly will cover
@@johnsdea the car is already in production and looks just like this.
Amazing video as usual, not sure how you managed to get the audio to be as good as it was in such a car 😀
Going to be honest and say this one is not for me, after removing the twin V and going with a more conventional engine setup I feel for me its lost what it was.. may as well buy a 7 and get the great handling
Hi, it does have the traditional intake wail of a triple engine which is a plus.
Love it
The want is strong 😊
absurd beauty, it's a passion
There is something about the V twin Hanging of the front that lent the Mk1 much more visceral drama. I wonder why they changed supplier? Long story short , I would have a Mk1 but Mk 2 is somehow to tamed, I also think US customers would be freerer with their money with the S&S V twin.
Owner of a 2013 Morgan3wheeler, I can’t see myself selling it for the super3
Just watched the Top Gear episode where Richard Hammond drove the old one.
Question: How often would you need to change the rear tyre? No thanks.
Until you have driven a Morgan 3W over 5000 miles on a semi daily basis you know nothing of three wheelers and are not really qualified to comment. My M3W is still patiently teaching me new things and I feel I might now be in a position to review it, after 11,000km. Main thing is don't buy a Morgan unless you mean to DRIVE it as much and as far as you can. Then they deliver. Mine is the best car/bike/trike/go-kart/thing that I have ever owned. Thanks for trying and showing the new car off very nicely indeed.
Are there plans for an electric version? A 2022 prototype ICE car is a bit anachronistic, isn't it?
Does it go in water
I don't have any qualms about the engine, but does anyone know why they opted for the ford 3 cylinder over a BMW B38? Morgan go to BMW for the B48 and B58 engines. Is it price, not wanting a turbo etc?
3 pot BMW lump without Turbo is a lot less power. It relies a lot on its turbocharger
I will just take off one rear wheel of my Fiesta and imagine i am driving a Morgan😂
I miss seeing the V-Twin Engine in front of the car. That's what first caught my attention on the older models. I think it's a monumental mistake to market a vehicle without it wether it's 3 wheels or 4 wheels. The wheel count comes in secondary to the big V-Twin Engine out in front! I wouldn't even want one of the newer cars without that feature.
Looks like they left a cowling off the front somehow
