I love these vehicles where you feel like you are going fast but are going relatively slow. Easier to have fun. It also goes to show how removed we are by new cars and tech from how fast we are actually going. Whether that's a good or bad thing I don't know but you find out pretty quick if you lose control or hit something...
TBH.. the limits on a new Honda Accord, driven by an experienced enthusiast is capable of running 20+mph over the posted speed limit even on a B road.. By the time you push any modern sporty car to anywhere near it’s limit you are also increasing the chances of an “interaction”with a stoned, distracted, incompetent twit in a POS.. might be driving in the middle of the road… Might be pulling out of a side road. I find it more fun to hoon around in an old Lotus 7, original Mini, a Miata, Focus ST ( the RS is too much) BRZ or FRS.. the lower limits also mean less chance of dying when you fail.. a Sprite or Midget is great for the same reason.. you can slide it around and still not leave your lane. I have faster cars.. but they are rarely pushed hard enough to break traction on the mountain roads where I live.
The Smoking Tire is the best car enthusiast channel on youtube. I am a Champion level Patron so don't need to watch the videos with ads but I do and don't skip over them just out of appreciation.
As a Brit I am delighted Morgan has carried on with the 3 wheelers. Another super interesting one to look at is a Pembleton V-Sport 3 which weighs in at 770lbs, a handbuilt beauty for less than $50k. I can't justify one in my garage... yet so I have settled for a Ural motorbike and side car to get my 3 wheel fix... so wrong it's right.
It makes sense that the main party trick of a three wheeler with all the power going to that bike tire in back is understeer. A fourth wheel would let Morgan design a proper turning/handling car without fear of everyone looping it immediately. Even those bad brakes are by design. Rapid deceleration would without a doubt transfer too much weight off the rear wheel. Not something you want around a corner when you have one wheel in back.
Speaking with a 1930's Morgan three wheeler racer (lady racer) at Spa last year, she told me she would apply the hand brake (that works the rear brakes) before appling the foot brake (front wheels) to avoid rear over taking the front of the car when applying stopping suddenly - remember this was an 90 year old Morgan and is a true racing machine. Today's three wheelers this would not apply, unless you have upgrade the front discs to such an extent that the rear becomes unweighted.
I'm glad to see helmets being worn driving this thing. Former Top Gear UK Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff was injured badly rolling one of these doing only 22mph without one. In the end, I would probably have just as much fun hustling a NA Miata around, maybe modded with ITBs to get bettter noise.
I do think modernizing the 3 wheeler is overall positive, but the video with Matt and Alex is one of the best ever. The old V-twin sounded like it was going to spin a rod bearing and cough a valve out through the exhaust in the best way possible.
I'm so fucking happy they reviewed this, this company I looked at for a while and wish I can get one of their products by I've been following them for a long time. And a lot of Americans don't know this company exist and I'm America myself and I'm glad I ran into them
What funny timing. I literally drove behind one of the older Morgan 3 wheelers just two days ago. First one I’ve seen in person. When I told my wife about it I pulled up the video with Matt and Roy to show her. Such a great video. I could maybe see owning one of the old ones 10-15 years from now as a 4th car.
The old one was a riot, really did sound like a WW2 plane. I couldn't feel my hands after a few hours of vibrations from the thing though, an S1 Elise felt like an Audi in comparison. Fun cars, would love a go in the new one.
Thanks for this excellent review and greetings from the UK I only live around 15 miles away from the Morgan Factory must pay them a visit sometime, sat in the old one and it was tight, this looks better if less nostalgic Cheers!
Zack really gets 'the Morgan thing'. Steampunk that's fun to drive. To quote one of the comments on here " Rapid deceleration would without a doubt transfer too much weight off the rear wheel." Speaking with a 1930's Morgan three wheeler racer (lady racer) at Spa last year, she told me she would apply the hand brake (that works the rear brakes) before appling the foot brake (front wheels) to avoid rear over taking the front of the car when applying stopping suddenly - remember this was an 90 year old Morgan and is a true racing machine. Today's three wheelers this would not apply, unless you have upgrade the front discs to such an extent that the rear becomes unweighted.
Great video, looks like a fun 3rd or 4th vehicle! I enjoyed the interview with Jon on the TST Podcast, too. Off topic: @Zach, what style are the black ASICS you're wearing? Cheers.
I have no idea how possible it is. But I see a lot of room for improvement on the ownership side. Seems easy to source better tires and dial in the alignment. Harder but not impossible would be to integrate an electric steering, better brakes and maybe hop-up the motor some. 🤷🏻♂️
I can't afford a real one, but I've always wanted a Ducati powered homebuilt one. Maybe retrofitting a broken Vanderhall with a RWD Ducati engine would be the way to go for me.
I would love to see your impressions of a Pembleton. You would likely have to go to England. They make a thee wheeler with a motorcycle engine and a four wheeler. All the best, Hal
I love these elemental machines. I think it's great Morgan designed a modern version. It is more useable are a second sports vehicle and it'll start every time, deliver fun at sane speeds and remain completely unconventional is a homogenous motoring world. And for those that want the real vintage flavor, those can be had too. Variety is the spice of life.
I’m amazed that Lotus could legally only sell the Elise in the US for 5 years before it was deemed ‘unsafe’ and the S1 never made it to US on the same grounds and yet almost 30 years later, Morgan are able to sell a 3 wheeler with no screen & no obvious safety equipment in the US!? It’s a shame because US missed out on so many amazing cars from the Lotus Elise, S1 & S3 Exige, TVR’s etc.
the beauty of the old one, was to snick it up in a higher gear and let the big ole s&s motor pull you through the corners. the morgan 3 wheeler is about "motoring" not driving.
Compared to the Slingshot,... well, in another 100 years, the Morgan will still be worth more. I hoped someone pointed out that our first reviewer IS Racing one "in the '20's,.." The complaints about Manual Steering weight, sounds common from people too young to have driven small light cheap RWD 4cylinder economy cars, and never built up the muscles needed. Just a shame to local importer licensed by Morgan, won't bring any of the new cars in to Australia, the 3-wheeler and the smallest of the 4 wheelers would be an ideal single-person commuter car, Plug-In EV versions would be amazing inner city.
This car would have been much better served by some type of “weird” car engine, or really anything but an NA inline 4 with even firing order. A 3 cylinder, inline 2, any kind of boxer engine, rotary, 5 cylinder, cross-plane I4 or at least a loud blower/turbo all would have given the car a lot more personality. Standard I4s have to rev to at least 9500 before they stop feeling bland.
Zack was giving me very mild "Let me show you something" Fire Marshall Bill vibes in the beginning here. Anyway what a conundrum. They made it a better car which made it a less interesting sensory experience for the driver. It seems Morgan isn't immune from the same questions we've all been asking ourselves on other new cars today compared with ones from 10-20 years ago in regard to isolation, feel, engagement, etc.
I wonder what the reasoning was behind using a car engine vs a liquid-cooled motorcycle engine. A 1200cc motorcycle I-4 would rev a lot more, though at the price of torque and perhaps long-term durability.
I hate to be pedantic but, i think the comparison you want to make is to a first world war fighter, not a second WW one. The open cockpit and exhaust note are definitely WW1. WW2 would be closed cockpit, supercharged V12 or large supercharged radial which sound completely different to the original Morgan three wheeler.
I have taken test drives/rides in the Vanderhall Venice and Carmel, the Polaris Slingshot, and Can-Am Spyder... and I keep coming back to the Morgan (have never ridden/driven one...) in terms of looks... The thing is, I keep thinking about, for the same (or less) money, I can get a new Mazda Miata Club.... A few years ago, I drove the Vanderhall Venice, back to back, with a Miata... and as much fun the Venice was, the Miata gave me more of a grin and the ability to use it daily and for long trips, than the Venice... My wife was with me and she loved both of them... I did not buy either of those... a few years later and I am still trying to decide what the heck I want to get... Love the Morgan, thank you for the video.
The lack of a manual transmission was a buzzkill for me regarding the Vanderhall. I love the vintage take on a three-wheeler, but an automatic just removed a big part of the experience.
Wonder how this compares to a Vanderhall? It seems like they both are trying to channel a vintage vibe.. The Mog is certainly the prettiest of the bunch.. A T-Rex has a certain look, a Slingshot has that Anime/ Manga hero thing… the Vanderhall is kind of like athe bastard son of a tricycle and a casket… the Morgan is classically sexy.. the Jennifer Connelly of motoring.. Something else I will never have..
You don't have to wear a helmet in a Morgan 3 wheeler. i prefer the sound and look of the old one, it sounds so much better and looks like the original bike engined ones.
You keep comparing the old v-twin to a WW2 plane, but actually an exposed air cooled engine mounted outboard is more WW1 than 2. All prominent WW2 fighters were water cooled and under a cowling like this one is. I also don't think the Super 3 shares a platform with the plus 4 & 6! Don't get the constant comparison to the Polaris either, people aren't buying this because it's a 3-wheeler, they're buying it because it's an entry level Morgan and is interesting.
I'd be curious how it compares to the Vanderhall Venice. I have driven a rented Vanderhall Carmel (basically a fancy Venice) with its turbo-charged FWD powertrain. It was a total hoot. Having the power to the two wheels sitting beneath the weight of the engine seems like a better arrangement. Traction control is absolutely required though.
The super 3 reminds me of the "modern cobra" from xXx 2 It's probably a better car than an original cobra but I wouldn't buy it on styling alone - at least if they look like this none
Whit Morgan relationship with BMW , I was willing to bet that it was going to have the new BMW R18 engine . … for me this change to a modern economy car engine is wrong !!!
OG's remember the Alex Roy video where Matt and Alex basically laughed through the entire video ❤
There were probably three lines in the whole video and that was just magnificent. Top 5 One Take
Seriously. Back when the Internet was used for good and not evil.
Alex Roy makes that video awesome
Never forget
“It’s got proper gauges that show you, uh, the truth” - great line
"I feel like I am understeering a bicycle" *slightly worried face* "which is a very new sensation!"
understeering the bicycle at speed is usually a prelude to crash :D it must be slightly disconcerting
😂😂😂
I love these vehicles where you feel like you are going fast but are going relatively slow. Easier to have fun.
It also goes to show how removed we are by new cars and tech from how fast we are actually going.
Whether that's a good or bad thing I don't know but you find out pretty quick if you lose control or hit something...
100%. I think it's bad thing for enthusiasts - makes it hard to really enjoy a drive on most public roads.
It's a bad thing
TBH.. the limits on a new Honda Accord, driven by an experienced enthusiast is capable of running 20+mph over the posted speed limit even on a B road.. By the time you push any modern sporty car to anywhere near it’s limit you are also increasing the chances of an “interaction”with a stoned, distracted, incompetent twit in a POS.. might be driving in the middle of the road… Might be pulling out of a side road.

Thought I was going to watch a video on the Super 3, instead got a front row seat to Zack's personal gun show.
The Smoking Tire is the best car enthusiast channel on youtube. I am a Champion level Patron so don't need to watch the videos with ads but I do and don't skip over them just out of appreciation.
At least the freaky bot comments are positive ones

Matt and Zack always make every review feel like you're just sitting around talking about cars with your best homeboy.
Can recommend the factory tours at the Malvern Morgan works, very informative and see cars at every stage of construction, afternoon tea included.
"OW! Something hit me in the face"
It makes sense that the main party trick of a three wheeler with all the power going to that bike tire in back is understeer. Those side "cargo" mounting boards look like stretchers attached to the side of a car.
Zack, please just grow out the stache and channel your inner Graham Hill. It's all I can see when you drive a (sort of) open wheeler.
I do think modernizing the 3 wheeler is overall positive, but the video with Matt and Alex is one of the best ever. The old V-twin sounded like it was going to spin a rod bearing and cough a valve out through the exhaust in the best way possible.

I was too distracted by Zack's triceps to pay attention to the first 12mins of this vid.
Sitting here wondering why I’m wondering if Zack got an arm pump from driving this thing?
Thanks for this excellent review and greetings from the UK I only live around 15 miles away from the Morgan Factory must pay them a visit sometime, sat in the old one and it was tight, this looks better if less nostalgic Cheers!
This new one looks so much better than the last gen. So damn cool.
I have ‘21 v-twin, no issues. Cooling much improved by fan that kicks in at
Zack really gets 'the Morgan thing'. Steampunk that's fun to drive.

Great video, looks like a fun 3rd or 4th vehicle! I enjoyed the interview with Jon on the TST Podcast, too.
Off topic: @Zach, what style are the black ASICS you're wearing?
Cheers.
Refreshing to see a video shot in Malibu. So beautiful we are blessed with these roads
Maybe not the best "car"ever, but certainly a fun review!
Great balanced review guys. Not easy in a 3 Wheeler!
am assuming it's coz of regs but this looks different than the UK spec front end/face on the Morgan website?
Yes, the light positioning has to be different for the US market.
I see quite a few in the Malvern Hills here in the UK...Never two the same spec..Ha!
This is the groove y'all have been looking for! What a fun car, that triple motor sounds amazing! Great job y'all! 🤙
I have no idea how possible it is. But I see a lot of room for improvement on the ownership side. Seems easy to source better tires and dial in the alignment. Harder but not impossible would be to integrate an electric steering, better brakes and maybe hop-up the motor some. 🤷🏻♂️
It feels like a car from a 1950's science fiction movie? Loving it
Almost like having fun in road cars is the actual goal. Who tf cares if it's "the fastest" on the road.
I can't afford a real one, but I've always wanted a Ducati powered homebuilt one. Maybe retrofitting a broken Vanderhall with a RWD Ducati engine would be the way to go for me.
I could just see Steve McQueen driving the modern Morgan in the Thomas Crown Affair.
Stick some unequal length headers on the exhaust and it will sound as lumpy as you want.
Wouldn't it be cool with two open wheels in the rear, matching the fronts? Perhaps with the track narrowed a bit.
Yo Zack kinda jacked
Vanderhall comparison?
I would love to see your impressions of a Pembleton. You would likely have to go to England. They make a thee wheeler with a motorcycle engine and a four wheeler. All the best, Hal
Front tires look a bit small, wider ones would help the understeer.. guessing it's because of the no power steering

I’d imagine the lacking brakes have to do with the ~115 millimeter front tires
Where is Alex Roy ,,,
Alex Roy needs to be on some crazy videos .
Drove both old and new. Hated the new one. The old one I fell in love with. It had SO much character and sounded way better.
"... Ran out of bravery".... Brilliant!!
Check out the Triking also from the UK. I'm building one in my garage.
What would be really cool is a body kit for the Polaris that looked like the Morgan.
the beauty of the old one, was to snick it up in a higher gear and let the big ole s&s motor pull you through the corners.
the morgan 3 wheeler is about "motoring" not driving.
I think the engine sounds kinda decent
Three cylinder engines sound much like six cylinder engines.
I thought they have the characteristics of a 5 cylinder motor, more of a worble off beat sound@@kiwi335d
Compared to the Slingshot,... well, in another 100 years, the Morgan will still be worth more. I hoped someone pointed out that our first reviewer IS Racing one "in the '20's,.."

I love Morgan! Although this 3 wheeler would be fun I’d take some of their other cars
Needs a cold air intake, or itbs for more induction noise
YT tv doesn't give me your new videos hot, I need to find them myself.
I wonder what the reasoning was behind using a car engine vs a liquid-cooled motorcycle engine. A 1200cc motorcycle I-4 would rev a lot more, though at the price of torque and perhaps long-term durability.

Vanderhall crying in the background 😂
Well thank God, there’s something different in this world, not all the same blah blah blah don’t even mention cupholders
Reminds me of my old messerschmitt...so want
Hope Aptera comes to life. Wonder how it would compare to this
I have taken test drives/rides in the Vanderhall Venice and Carmel, the Polaris Slingshot, and Can-Am Spyder... and I keep coming back to the Morgan (have never ridden/driven one...) in terms of looks... 1st car a Morgan Super 3 and daily it. If there is anyone in the world, that man deserves a statue for the biggest Petrolhead in the world.
The easiest way to make something feel fast; just remove the windshield.
seems like that steering wheel needs to be about an inch bigger
It needs the Triumph Rocket 3 engine to make some noise.
Would be fun. At the same time Morgan could probably use the same 1.5 Ford engine but with the turbo, from Fiesta ST.
Would love a Morgan 4 wheeler…same concept, full rear setup. Unfortunately regulators won’t let us have any fun.
That's called a Caterham :)
@@olivieraries5854 It certainly is. But competition would be nice
Is it even still a Morgan without wood though? They could have at least added some wood trim.
Wonder how this compares to a Vanderhall? It seems like they both are trying to channel a vintage vibe.. The Mog is certainly the prettiest of the bunch.. Just as an fyi my 2017 I got new has not given me any problems.
Looks like rescue boards on the sides of the car
You don't have to wear a helmet in a Morgan 3 wheeler. i prefer the sound and look of the old one, it sounds so much better and looks like the original bike engined ones.
Um, I think Matt meant to say the old Morgan felt like a World War _One_ fighter plane!
Man these always look so cool, but 55k? I just don't see that much value in it.
I think a vanderhall would be best option. Only thing that sucks about them is they are an automatic but atheist your wife can drive it sometimes then
The engine noise was the whole spirit of the Morgan. A shame they moved away from the prior.
There's more to the spirit of a Morgan three-wheeler than just the V-twin. The three-banger had a nice rorty sound to it.
Made it to 4:08…new guy should be reviewing yachts or golf apparel.
Wonder what happened to Alex Roy. Haven't seen him in years.
They look like a laugh riot. I'm still on the waiting list for their new Plus Four which I hope will pass US regulations soon.
Zack, please teach Matt how to say “et cetera” 😂
lol no X in eSpresso, no X in eT cetera
Did Zack just seriously say that the Morgan Super 3 is "just made for going straight on the highway" ?
Great video. I wish you loved it more
forgot about the plus4/6
If Zack needs to get out of the seat to put on the seatbelt, it should only be considered by people with a dozen cars or more lol
It’s cool if you don’t know about the old one. This has absolutely none of the charm of the old model
18:15 Oh Matt! 😂❤🏁
Matt - how tall are you & wide? I am 6'2 and wide so wondering if I can fit.
I feel and sound old and now i feel accepted lol. : ] Great stuff
In conclusion, get a Polaris Slingshot; rear-axle-conversion, and you've got yourself a Caterham.
Just saw one of these in SF yesterday. In many ways, at this point, just go get a damn motorcycle.
The super 3 reminds me of the "modern cobra" from xXx 2
It's probably a better car than an original cobra but I wouldn't buy it on styling alone - at least if they look like this none
Whit Morgan relationship with BMW , I was willing to bet that it was going to have the new BMW R18 engine . … for me this change to a modern economy car engine is wrong !!!
Love the video
It's not a motorcycle either it's a Tricycle!
18:09 Headphone Warning 🤦♂ lol
