That's the true mark of an honorable man. I worked closed with a guy on the construction team. He was born again. Always preaching goodness and purity. So a guy on another team had HORRIBLE luck with vehicles. He'd bought an older Chev pickup for $3500 and was in a small town about 2 hrs away, died on the side of a road. Had it towed to a local garage, they said new fuel pump, including dropping the tank, $1800. F it...... Got to work on the monday, told us about his harrowing weekend and he couldn't put $1800 into is. The holy roller offered him $1000.00 for it. He took it. FF to the next weekend, the holy roller goes to the town with a secondary fuel pump to get it home. Checks the fuses? It's the fuel pump relay. $6.00 fix. Drove it home. Told the owner what it was, and giggled as the owner basically weeped. We were off to a site on our own and I said to him: you know you preach goodness and charity and all that. If you truly were a "holy" person, you would have given him the title and $500 back and kept $500 for your time. Knowing the trouble he's had with vehicles. It's not like he's a total stranger, we worked with him 3 weeks out of every month. He said "yeah right, would YOU have done that"? Me: HELL yeah...in a heart beat. I wouldn't even hesitate. In fact, I did the same thing. A neighbour gave me a lawnmower that wouldn't run. I checked it out, replaced the membrane in the carb (common problem) for $4.00. Long time ago (1990's through the mid 2000's) when I was supporting my daughters as they began to drive, I went through a few Grand Am, Cavaliers and Sunfires. With the current situations in our world, I sure would like to find one for my daily driver.

Good work Scott. Title should be scam diagnostics. When shops condemn the head gasket without meaningful data it puts the owner in a tough spot. I speak from experience, low coolant light became a head gasket repair and the engine never overheated. You made this owner’s day by making it right and paying back $1000. That is fair.

This brought back many memories, I was a lightline tech back during the '90s thru 2002 at a Pontiac dealership here in OKC. Been there and done this many times, down side, had to do it for warranty pay. Customer pay jobs were a little rare. Most repairs were customer caused but the dealership was worried about CSI and did many repairs under warranty.
Nice that you tossed the dude a grand. I bought a 1979 Mercury Zephyr from a dude for $50 because his mechanic told him the 2.3L engine was froze up. I unbolted the starter and had to use a hammer to get it to come out. I installed shims on the starter and it fired right up. I tried to give the dude more for the car but he didn't want it and didn't want to talk about that car he had just paid 2 grand for and another $30 for the mechanic to ruin his day.
Loved these cars. Drove the shit out of my mothers 96 Gt back in high school days. Seen one years ago with the tags rearranged to Grand ma. It is was true to the driver.
It's very nice of you giving money to the previous owner. Even though I live on the east side I'll buy a car from you!!!. Good luck in all your new projects.

Amazing confidence. You reassembled the headliner and interior before you tested the sunroof. I would have tested that sunroof a second after plugging it in. You sir, have steel ones! Nice job as always!
Scott, you can use the drain hole on the transmission to also fill the transmission. Remove the drain plug, no fluid? Pump a quart into the hole and check level. Repeat until you can get fluid to stream out.
4 years now I’ve been driving this car I believe it’s a SE2 trim model it’s not a GT but it’s fully loaded for the SE trim level V6 motor not ram air AC power locks mirrors and windows cruise control and traction control ABS lol a CD player not the monsoon radio but the highest package radio no sunroof disc brakes in front drums in the back it’s got a spoiler got alloy wheels but I like it I like that it’s got physical buttons for everything I hate the touchscreen crap if I need something to be on or off it’s just a flick of a button. Only thing i wish these cars had was heated mirrors it sucks when ice builds up on the mirrors
I’m from Mississippi I haven’t seen one of them cars in years down here. It all goes back when everybody an there momma was scrapping they all went to scrap. I enjoy watching you bring old back. I really wish you could redo a Pontiac fiero. Love that little death trap
Hay your a good dude. Giving the previous owner a Grand was really cool thing. Honesty is rare today. I remember negotiating a car with a hand shake. Times have sure changed. You made that guys day. Proud of you... 😉
Love the reasoning behind the car pricing. Wish I had the same replies when I sold my 89 Corvette. Interested people wanted a 18,000 mile super clean car for $5000. Biggest reason was a low mile car would have multiple problems due to the low miles.
There is a certain level of excellence maintained and amazing efficiency of work flow on display here. Ive seen the body work videos and id say that you could design a vehicle.
Never had a bad head gasket on one of these. Every single one I picked up for a "bad head gasket" has been an intake leak. All the same symptoms as this pin hole, or an actual head gasket.
Everyone I talk to says the 3400 is a terrible motor and every Pontiac I’ve had with that motor I’m a 5th generation fan boy of these cars lol Ive had no issues with head gaskets so I don’t know what people do too these cars but the ones I’ve gotten I’ve had no problems there at least

Excellent, I admire the giving back too!
UA-cam should allow more than one thumbs up. This definitely earned more than one!
A newer rebuild title car is worth a bit less, but the older it gets it looses the rebuild title depreciation and is worth as much or greater than what is out there. I sold a rebuild title after using it for 6 years and got the street value for it. Love your chanel ! Your french Canadian loyal subscriber.
The older something gets it starts entering into classics and they become worth something again especially if the cars still in good shape
It's too bad there aren't more people like you in the car business Scott.
You are a very rare stand up guy that we so desperately need !
Great job Scott , blessing people back like that is what the world needs .
I really like your show, and watch it every chance I get, especially your comentary!!
Loved these cars. Drove the shit out of my mothers 96 Gt back in high school days. Seen one years ago with the tags rearranged to Grand ma. It is was true to the driver.
You are a Good Man Scott!!! Well Done Sir!!!
I commend you for giving that owner those Bucks! Your a good man Scott! Take care! Rich
My first car was a 1999 Grand Am SE V6. I still love these vehicles! They look better than most of the new vehicles.
Love those cars. Fun to drive, fairly simple to work on.
I think it's cool that you let the owner take it back after you repaired it. That showed good character to me.
You're a man of character and integrity that others could take a lesson from.
It's very nice of you giving money to the previous owner. Even though I live on the east side I'll buy a car from you!!!. Good luck in all your new projects.
Somehow I knew you would give the owner some of the proceeds. Your a stand up guy that does the right thing in all aspects of your repairs.
you are a good man Scott and these days, that is few and far between. Good job on the build and giving some money back to the original owner. it shows your worth. peace.
Amazing confidence. You reassembled the headliner and interior before you tested the sunroof. I would have tested that sunroof a second after plugging it in. You sir, have steel ones!
Nice job as always!
I love that you split the profit with the donor/owner.
Scott, you can use the drain hole on the transmission to also fill the transmission. Remove the drain plug, no fluid? Pump a quart into the hole and check level. Repeat until you can get fluid to stream out.
Yeah, PITA.
If you think about it, you helped somebody out who needed a good cheap reliable car.
When I worked for the Lube was around the time this car was new and I loved that little place they put wing screws.
I’m from Mississippi I haven’t seen one of them cars in years down here. It all goes back when everybody an there momma was scrapping they all went to scrap. I enjoy watching you bring old back. I really wish you could redo a Pontiac fiero. Love that little death trap
The "Cash for clunkers" federal program killed a lot of cars
I still love the Grand Am's. Glad you fix them!
Me too!
If you take the A and M and reverse them and stick it together with the Grand you get Grandma lol just saying
That was great Scott!! You are a very fair guy!!
You do quality work, in a time when the norm is cut corners where you can. Keep up the excellent work. Thank you for the quality videos!
I don't even need a car...but you made the repairs look so easy I want to buy it! Good job
I like those older Grand Ams, Grand Prix, and Bonnevilles. They looked good and were pretty fun to drive
